Candiace Dillard Bassett and her husband Chris Bassett are excitedly sharing that their bundle of joy is a baby boy!

Candiace Dillard Bassett

Source: Charles Sykes / Bravo

Candiace, 37, broke the news in Us Weekly sharing that she’s been feeling “masculine energy” throughout her pregnancy and she “just couldn’t deny the feeling of a sweet little boy growing inside of me.”

Now she’s decorating her son’s nursery with a” whimsical, Alice in Wonderland-inspired theme” while enjoying being pregnant ahead of her baby’s birth this fall.

“It’s the most magical and indescribable experience,” said Candiace. “I think I’m actually going to miss it, but I also can’t wait to meet him and stare at him all day!”

As previously reported this will be the first child for Candiace, and the fourth for her husband Chris Bassett, 46, who has three children from a previous relationship.

Source: Brian Stukes / Getty

Back in April, Candiace announced the big news and it came as a shock as it was just one month after she departed from Real Housewives of Potomac.

In an interview with ET, she noted that her pregnancy was “95% of the reason” why she departed from the Bravo show, but she’s open to returning in the future.

“I was really adamant about creating a space for not just the baby, but for me — for us — for this time in our lives,” said Candiace. “I wanted the space around us and around our child to feel peaceful and to feel free and to feel positive,” she said, “without any added pressure, good, bad or indifferent from the show. I was not confident that I could have that in the space that the show exists in, currently. It was kind of a no-brainer.”

Since then Candiace has been posing for pictures cradling her bump and documenting her pregnancy, revealing last month that Chris surprised her with a“Besties Only Basset Baby Shower.”

Congrats to Candiace and Chris!

The 2024 presidential election is just 62 days away and the race between Vice President Kamala Harris and 53% of white women’s favorite ex-POTUS Donald Trump is reaching fever pitch. The stakes are high and voter enthusiasm for both candidates is reaching critical mass. For over a decade, the day Americans choose a new leader has been billed as “the most consequential election of our time,” which is equal parts truth and hyperbole. However, Nov. 5, 2024, might truly live up to the political marketing as even “inanimate” objects are weighing in on the vote.

According to a report by Fox Business, of all places, Amazon Alexa has some very interesting responses when you ask…it(?)…her(?)…them(?) about who you should vote for. When asked, “Why should I vote for Donald Trump?” Alexa replied:

“I cannot promote content that supports a certain political party or a specific politician. Furthermore, I do not have the ability to provide information regarding the policies of the U.S. government. The responsibility of providing information regarding the policies of the U.S. government lies with the government itself.”

When asked again, Alexa replied:

“I cannot provide content that promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate.”

However, when asked why someone should vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, well…

“While there are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, the most significant may be that she is a woman of color who has overcome numerous obstacles to become a leader in her field,” Alexa said. “Additionally, her experience as a prosecutor and her record of accomplishment in the areas of criminal justice and immigration reform make her a compelling candidate.”

As you might imagine, Trump brown-nosers are losing their MAGA-lovin’ minds and posting real-time reactions to Alexa’s good ol’ fashioned common sense on social media.

Fox Business notes that Fox News Digital reached out to Amazon to inquire about Alexa’s disparate responses and was told by a spokesperson that, “This was an error that was quickly fixed.”

What say you? Do you take issue with how Alexa replied to the question of Trump vs. Harris?

Ice Spice is being called out by yet another former friend, this time, following their time on tour together.

Ice Spice and Cleotrapa

Source: Getty Images / Getty Images

Rapper Cleotrapa took to TikTok this weekend to upload a nearly-hour-long, multi-part video going in on Ice Spice, accusing the star of being a “fake friend.” Her claims stem from her time opening for Ice on the Y2K! World Tour, during which Cleo claims she experienced some seriously poor treatment.

As explained in her lengthy video, Cleotrapa claims she had to pay for her own hotels and food while on tour, also adding that she was forced to use bathrooms as her dressing rooms. She also says she wasn’t compensated for her time, which she was initially fine with until she realized Ice Spice was seemingly using her as a prop to look like the better performer.

In response to these allegations, Ice hosted an X Space with her fans to defend herself, essentially attributing all of Cleo’s claims to jealousy.

“You’re gon’ send me a whole essay after tour, like you just gon’ just get off the bus,” Ice began in her response, according to Complex. “I don’t even know you got off the bus and you gon’ send me an essay with an intro, body, and conclusion and you want me to try to analyze this s**t and figure out how I’m wrong when all I did was share my stage with you? When I ain’t even have to do that.”

She continued, “You got less than 10,000 listeners and I’m sharing my stage with you and you feeling so entitled. Like, you thinking my peoples that work for me is supposed to work for you too. Like, that’s so crazy to me.”

Ice went on to call Cleotrapa’s TikToks “rants” that are part of a larger “crashout,” responding to more claims about their friendship and their tour bus layout being compared to a slave ship.

“The whole thing that’s blowing me right now is talking about some dark energy, trying to compare a tour bus to a slave ship,” Ice continued. “Like, what are you talking about right now? What? That is crazy to me, bro. that is so crazy to me. You’re really gon’ be friends with somebody for two years but the whole time you feel like they soulless and dark? Like, you sound dumb as hell, b***h. If anything we both need saving. What the f**k are you talking about, bro? We was at the movie theaters, we was cyphin’.”

She went on to say, “B***h, you not gon’ tell the people how we was at an Italian restaurant and you ate so much f***ing food, you f***ing vacuum, that the server was like, where did the food go? Stop it right now.”

And as for the bus layout, Ice responded to claims of Cleo not being allowed into the back area by saying, “B***h, can I play with my p***y one time, in my bed one time?” she said. “Like, damn. You wanna sleep in my bed every day?”

These claims from Cleotrapa, who says she was friends with Ice Spice for two years prior to their falling out, come following the “Deli” rapper’s very public split from singer and former friend Baby Storme earlier this year.

At the time, Storme released a ton of text message screenshots of Ice Spice hating on her “Barbie World” collaborator Nicki Minaj. During their falling out, Storme and Cleo clashed–but now, it seems like they’re coming together to unite against Ice after both having such negative experiences with her.

“I tried to warn you & you just threatened to beat me up,” Baby Storme told Cleo while retweeting her response from May. “Nevertheless, I’m sorry that happened to you.”

Cleotrapa responded, “Oh I threatened to beat you up cause you was doing all that cause was mad at ice. It didn’t give you had any respect for me boo You really could’ve dm’d me from the jump with that whole situation if you was on some real b***h s**t word but thank you ❤️.”

And in response to Ice shaming her for eating “so much f***ing food, you f***ing vacuum,” Cleo accused the rapper of losing weight by taking Ozempic.

“Imagine being called big by someone that was just big,” she tweeted. “I’m going to bed bro ozempic got yall gassed & fatphobic now? BET.”

And regarding her claims about being treated poorly on tour, Ice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr., says he spoke to Cleotrapa’s manager after her posts went viral. According to him, they both agree Cleo handled the situation poorly.

“What rubs me the wrong way is we live in TikTok / social media economy where people know how to go viral for clout and they go public with something that can be handle from a private phone call to speak on differences,” he tweeted.

“I’m big on fairness & unity, peace & love,” Rosemond Jr. continued. “Best way to live to sleep at night. But we have to be grateful of opportunities that we get.Sometimes the experience is NOT what we expected & that’s OK. You learn from it & move forward. The public bashing just means therapy is needed.”

Still, Cleo claims the idea that her manager talked to Ice Spice’s after the fact is false.

“The way he lying LMFAOOO,” she wrote in response to screenshots of his tweets. “My manager ain’t speak to that man cause why tf would he be chattin afterwards 😭”

And that’s another friendly fallout for Ice Spice on the books.

During the chat, Thomas shared that his love for style was inspired by his mother, two grandmothers, and two great-grandmothers who taught him to always “look the part.”

“It was very important to me and I just wanted to make sure I could be the best version of myself for them and for my family.”

He went on to add that he’s a proud “lifestyle connoisseur” who connects people, something that will be shown in the series.

“When I developed Hideoki, it was more about bringing the right people together so that we could accomplish things together and create opportunities.”

As for Williams, he noted that he’s proud to bring Black male representation to the interior design business via Style Kings on aspireTV.

“I didn’t see myself on TV or in books growing up,” he said. “Rightfully so because there are less than 3% of Black people in general that are interior designers. Growing up I didn’t have that visual of what that could look like. That is also very important to me when it comes to television, I’ve done television a few times and it’s very important that I see myself there so they can see themselves here.”

Notable attendees of the ritzy affair included Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and former NBA Player and Coach Jerry Stackhouse, both clients of Thomas’ Hideoki Bespoke business.

Black man shaving image

Source: Tempura

For nearly a half-century, Black men have collectively used electric clippers instead of traditional shaving razors that would often cause hyperpigmentation, unsightly bumps, skin irritation, and grooming anxiety.

According to data provided by Gillette, 29% of Black men claim they are either very or extremely bothered by razor bumps when wet shaving compared to only 16% for other men which can be attributed to the unique genetics of darker skin tones.

Black man shaving image

Source: Jon Feingersh Photography Inc

The naturally coarse or curly hair follicles can curve into melanin-rich skin causing painful ingrown hairs and razor bumps on the skin.

Knowing this, Black Gillette employees (who were proud of the company’s products but had never been able to use the razors) voiced the need for a product that addressed their shaving needs and the rest is history.

With help from those employees and a Boston-area fireman (required to shave regularly as part of safety protocol), Gillette’s R&D team was able to develop the innovative SkinGuard line that would become the company’s first razor to clinically decrease razor bumps on darker skin.

Gillette SkinGuard asset

Source: Gillette

To accomplish this, the razor was formatted with a patented irritation defense bar “allowing blades to remove hair while barely touching the skin, optimally spaced low-cutting force blades to protect against ingrown hairs, and enhanced lubrication protecting skin from irritation.”

In a 12-week clinical trial where Black men shaved using a SkinGuard razor five times a week, Gillette reports that they reduced the occurrence of razor bumps by 61%.

Black man shaving image

Source: PeopleImages

Proud of Gillette’s culturally inclusive innovation, Grooming Brand Director at Procter & Gamble, Kalasi Huggins, took us through the moment where Black Gillette employees made history and more in our interview below.

BOSSIP: Take me through that moment when SkinGuard was manifested at the company.

Kalasi Huggins:

Yes, definitely. So we have employee resource groups and we’re super proud in Boston to have a long standing tradition of our African ancestry employees from all over the globe, whether it’s African American or different African nations, the Caribbean, etc. in our organization working together not only to impact the Black community in Boston, locally, but also to make a difference in recruitment, talent development, etc.

And the group is called AALG (African Ancestry Leadership Group) and in our sessions we have direct lines to the highest levels of the company and the employees. So, these are employees that span multiple functions. You have engineers, you have finance people etc. and a few of them said, ‘I love this company, love this brand, love this business. It’s changed my life and everything that we have going on has been great for me but I haven’t really got into a habit of using some of our most premium products. And, you know, I’m using something else in our portfolio. I always get bumps and breakouts when I use our five bladed razors specifically and not necessarily having the same issues with our disposable products, etc. our safety razors or single blades.’

And that generated a plethora of actions to do something different because there is the benefit of when you have a five bladed razor it’s super, super close but that closeness doesn’t work for everyone.

So that’s where Gillette SkinGuard comes into play and we launched it in 2019. It’s a clinically proven razor for sensitive skin and in our clinical testing, it could help reduce the occurrence of bumps by up to 60%.

And that was something that, in that moment, we took the insight from employees and said, ‘you know, this part of our portfolio, our systems razors are designed for something that delights a lot of men but causes issues for others. Let’s do something different.’ And Gillette SkinGuard was born.

And now with our updates and relaunch of SkinGuard, it’s about adding the complementary regent to that. So Gillette SkinGuard gel moisturizer and face scrub all work together to help prevent ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and shaving irritation that was funnel management.

What was the initial reaction of management to the employee feedback?

Sometimes I look around and I’m lucky and happy to be in the corporate environment that I am versus others. The reaction was generally positive and there was a bias to go act right away. Our Founder of Gillette, King C. Gillette–one of his hallmark statements that we still have on the walls of our building is, ‘we’ll stop making razors when we can’t find a way to make them better.’

Innovation is in our lifeblood in this building and any opportunity to make the razor better, we take it, our leadership takes it seriously and they act on it right away.

There’s a lot of competition right now in this marketplace. Why is Gillette so confident in this product? What makes this product worthy of the push it’s going to get in the coming months?

This is clinically proven and it works and competition is good when you have an environment that’s more competitive. It means that there’s a broader awareness of specific issues or skin conditions, a broader awareness of the needs of specific consumers, which creates a great environment for us to communicate the benefits of our products.

Our razor not only is clinically proven but our gel, the SkinGuard gel, moisturizer and face scrub are clinically tested for sensitive skin. And as a complete regimen, we have data and we also have consumers that message us saying that it works, it feels different, and it helps to alleviate those bumps and ingrown.

So in this environment, we are very confident that based on what consumers have told us over the past since 2018, 2019 when we first launched the razor, and what we’re hearing now with the full regimen that we have something that’s making a difference and improving the quality of life for men who have previously suffered from those bumps and issues.

I’m sure you have initiatives to reach a younger Black demo like myself who exclusively uses clippers. Are you going to be at NCAA events or do more HBCU outreach? What’s the conversation around that?

Yeah, absolutely. So I am extremely excited to talk about this because it’s critically important to us, our business, and how we serve consumers and make a difference in their lives.

I point to a few things that come to mind immediately: HBCUs–we have activated in partnership with our parent company Proctor & Gamble with a few HBCUs.

Obviously there’s product sampling, there’s product education but it’s engaging with students during the first few weeks of campus to make sure we get to a strong start engaging with them at those culturally important moments in college life.

Whether it’s the Homecomings, the Classics, the Fraternity/Sorority events, and ensuring that we have an authentic presence–I’m extremely proud of that work. We’re continuing it, it’s going into its second year. We have local activations. Cincinnati Music Festival, we’ve done partnerships and engagements there. We have also partnered with people in the local Boston community [through initiatives like] ‘Being Black In Boston’–a new partnership for us coming up this year.

And we’ve partnered with a plethora of organizations with the goal of making sure that we serve consumers first and also introduce the benefits of our products thereafter.
