Something in the water ain’t clean…

If you’ve ever worked in the world of Black journalism, you likely understand how often Black reporters and publications get snubbed when it comes to opportunities to cover certain major events like, say, the first debate to decide who will be the next president of the United States.

Donald Trump And Joe Biden Participate In First Presidential Debate

On Thursday, ahead of the first in-person debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, the network that is hosting the face-off, CNN, is pushing back on accusations that it has neglected to include representatives for Black-owned media outlets among the 800 some-odd journalists who will be covering the event.

The controversy started when famed Black journalist Roland Martin, who used to be a regular CNN contributor, called the network out Wednesday, claiming that it had “not issued ANY credentials for tomorrow night’s debate to ANY Black-owned media outlets.”

On the same day Martis sounded off on the lack of Black media presence at CNN, Donnell Suggs, the editor-in-chief at the Atlanta Voice, one of the city’s oldest Black newspapers, told the Atlanta Black Star, another major Black publication based in the city, that he hadn’t received any communication from CNN regarding the event.

“It was disrespectful. I thought it was very tacky not to invite the Black newspaper,” Suggs said. “I thought that was just cheap and typical of CNN.”

Suggs has since posted video footage of President Biden’s arrival while continuing to call out CNN.

He also shared that he’s the only member of the Black press at the debate’s White House Press Pool.

Later, the Congressional Black Caucus joined the chorus line of Black people and organizations who were wondering what gives with CNN’s exclusion of Black journalists, because clearly something is awry.

From NewsOne:

Speaking on behalf of the CBC, CBCPAC Chairman and New York Rep. Gregory Meeks said it was “totally unacceptable” that Black media were apparently being singled out while granting hundreds of other outlets access, including the international press.

It was in that context that Meeks blasted CNN for the “egregious oversight” of seemingly intentionally excluding Black media. Meeks demanded at least 10 Black media outlets be credentialed for the debate.

“This afternoon we learned that CNN has credentialed 800 members of the media for the first presidential debate of the election cycle. Not one represents a Black-owned media outlet. CNN’s exclusion of Black-owned media represents an egregious oversight and is totally unacceptable,” Meeks said. “CNN must immediately credential Black-owned media outlets ahead of tomorrow night’s debate. Failure to do so is a choice, an offense to Black Americans, and cannot stand. We are calling on CNN to credential a minimum of 10 Black-owned media outlets for tomorrow’s debate.”

So, what does CNN have to say regarding allegations that it essentially scrubbed Black journalism from the debate invite list? Well, the network appears to be insinuating that all the Black media publications were running on CP time, and that’s why none of them made the cut. (OK, the network didn’t say all that, but it’s difficult not to take it that way.)

“We are happy to welcome more than 800 journalists from around the world to Atlanta this week to cover the CNN Presidential Debate,” CNN said in a statement sent to NewsOne. “Information about how to apply for media credentials was made available to the public on May 15 in the announcement and confirmation of a debate. Unfortunately, due to size and security constraints, we are unable to accommodate additional credential requests following our June 7 application deadline.”

So, if we take CNN at face value, it appears that every Black publication missed the deadline to apply to be present during the debate.

Whether that’s the case or not, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is urging the network to make room for local Black journalists, particularly, because of how important the Black voting bloc is to the election. (The argument can also be made that major media outlets like CNN have joined both major political parties in treating the Black vote like it’s a political commodity and the hottest of hot topics for election news, so the least the network could do is extend Black media an invitation to what are arguably the most important televised events for both campaigns ahead of the general election.)

“No matter the reason the local Black Press was not approved, in regard to guidelines, we are asking CNN to create space to ensure fair and balanced coverage so that all citizens have access to real-time content from the debate,” NABJ said in a statement. “The Black Press serves as a primary news source for many Black Americans, who are key voices in the voting process. It is critical to ensure Black-owned and operated media are present and have prime placement to record, create, and share content for their audiences.”

So, maybe the onus is on Black media outlets to ensure they have gotten their paperwork in before debate deadlines so Black-owned outlets can be represented, but also, there should be more of a sense of urgency when it comes to the inclusion of Black media.

Back in February, the Pew Research Center found that nearly 25% of Black Americans said they get their news from Black media, so it should also be important to the candidates, who are hoping to win over or maintain a majority Black vote, that Black media outlets be present during all of the debates.

It’s not enough for candidates to talk about the Black vote when it’s politically convenient, they also better make sure they’re getting their message out to as many Black voters as possible—and they really can’t do that without media outlets that are dedicated to Black news.

Alvin Bragg Under Siege

All of this just because a Black man was doing his job? It’s giving white fragility.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has faced an unrelenting barrage of threats and racist harassment since securing the conviction of former President Donald Trump.

According to the Daily News, Bragg has received over 100 abusive messages filled with vile, racist slurs and death threats, including terms like “Savage […] primate, F–king […] rapist,” and “GORILLA.”

One alarming message declared, “Bragg in Trouble, Alvin a Bad Evil Man,” while an email from “ThisMeansWar” transmitted additional threats. Disturbingly, a packet exposed by the Daily News from Portland, Oregon, contained a photo of a noose with Bragg’s head beside it, stating. “I am passed the point of just wanting them in prison.”

Can you imagine? Yes, officials may receive harmful messages and threats but imagine the caliber of heat from a support group where Trump can encourage his following to insurrect the White House. Let that sink in.

Trump’s Conviction: A Historic Moment

On May 30, Trump became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime. Found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide information from voters during his 2016 campaign, Trump’s conviction relates to an affair with Stormy Daniels.

This historic conviction has sparked outrage among Trump’s supporters, leading to a dramatic increase in threats against Bragg. The New York Times reports that since the trial began, the NYPD has logged 56 “actionable threats” against Bragg, his family, and employees at the district attorney’s office. The threats, largely from Trump supporters, have included disclosing home addresses and bomb threats.

Even with the facts, Trump still remains favorable to Republicans and followers who don’t want justice. If you search #AlvinBragg on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), the way lawmakers who are fighting against his crime are being dragged — it’s unfathomable.

Racially Charged Attacks

The vitriol directed at Bragg is not just about politics; it is steeped in racism. The use of dehumanizing slurs and threats against Bragg, a Black man, underscores the racial tensions inflamed by Trump’s conviction. It is upon the ongoing list of challenges faced by Black officials in positions of power, particularly when they take on high-profile cases against influential figures like Trump.

Pay attention to leaders in the #MAGAMaggot movement, such as Steve Bannon. According to the Guardian, he is a former strategist of the White House, leading the jail charge against Bragg and stating, “Of course [Bragg] should be – and will be- jailed.”

They are listing out their intentions of using the government for their own twisted gain, before the election with a felon on the ballot has even taken place. Protect Bragg and #ProtectBlackMen at all costs.

The Role of Trump’s Rhetoric

Trump’s rhetoric has undeniably fueled this wave of hostility. Manhattan prosecutors have urged the continuation of a gag order on Trump, which the New York Times reports prohibits him from attacking witnesses, jurors, court staff, and the relatives of Judge Juan M. Merchan.

Despite this, Trump has repeatedly violated the gag order, resulting in fines and threats of jail time. His inflammatory statements have inspired his supporters to target Bragg and others involved in the case with threats and harassment.

Let’s be clear: this is NOT a form of protesting. Is this how Trump believes he is making America great?

The Gravity of the Situation: The Republican View

The significance of this situation extends beyond the immediate threats to Bragg’s safety. Trump’s conviction and the subsequent backlash highlight the deep divisions within American society. The attacks on Bragg are not just an attempt to intimidate a single individual but a broader effort to undermine the justice system.

Axios states, if re-elected, Trump allegedly could potentially leverage the 14th Amendment or the federal rights statute “conspiracy against rights” to take legal action against Bragg, further complicating an already tense legal and political landscape.

Adding fuel to the fire, Judge Judy Sheindlin, known for her television series Judy Judy, blasted Bragg’s case against Trump as “nonsense” during a recent interview with Chris Wallace on Max. According to The Hill, Sheindlin criticized the case, saying, “You gotta twist yourself into a pretzel to figure out what the crime was.

This show consistently ranks as one of the top-rated syndicated shows, drawing in millions of viewers daily. According to Next TV, Judge Judy includes a diverse range of viewers, with significant representation among Black and Hispanic communities. Judge Judy’s opinion on Alvin Bragg’s handling of the Trump case carries significant weight due to her wide-reaching influence and trusted voice among a diverse audience.

Be careful who you watch, what you consume and who you support.

Why This Matters

The treatment of Alvin Bragg by Trump and his supporters matters because it exposes the fragility of the justice system in the face of political and racial animosity. Bragg’s determination to pursue justice, even in the face of such intense backlash, demonstrates the importance of holding powerful figures accountable.

It also highlights the risks faced by those who stand up against entrenched power structures, particularly for Black officials who are often subjected to additional layers of scrutiny and harassment.

The Road Ahead

As Trump’s sentencing on July 11 approaches, the legal and cultural ramifications of this historic case continue to unfold. As a nation, we should watch closely and be aware that the outcome will resonate far beyond the courtroom, impacting many layers of the political and cultural landscape.

The threats against Bragg and the attempts to undermine his work serve as a sobering reminder of the challenges ahead in the pursuit of justice and equality.

In today’s episode of White People Really Be Out Here Telling On Themselves More Than Drill Rappers, Don’t They?an Illinois Republican has become the latest KKKaucasian to turn a Trump rally into a say-the-quiet-part-out-oud-o-thon.

Donald Trump Hosts A Rally In Illinois

Source: Michael B. Thomas / Getty

Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois’ 15th District joined Donald Trump at a rally where she praised the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, which ends constitutionally protected abortion rights and tells anyone in possession of a uterus that America will guarantee them the right to purchase a firearm but won’t guarantee them control over their own body.

Of course, Miller was unable to sing her praises of the decision without her mental auto-correct kicking in and exposing her racism by calling it a “historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court.”

Now, according to CBS News, Millier’s campaign immediately explained that Miller meant to say it was “a historic victory for right to life by the Supreme Court.”

“Mary stumbles while saying ‘Right to Life’ and the fake news vultures are out,” Miller’s spokesperson, Isaiah Wartman, told CBS.

Yeeeeeeah, nah—she said what she said.

First of all, you can’t just go throwing around the words “fake news” at sh** we all just heard with our own ears. She said “white life” instead of “right to life.” That’s not some common way of misspeaking—she literally subtracted a word to fit “white” in.

She said a specifically racist thing at the kind of event where white nationalism is generally the theme. (Notice the audience heard what she said and applauded her while she also carried on like she said nothing wrong and Trump just grinned that same goofy grin that makes him look like he just figured out his plot to steal Christmas from all the Whos down in Whoville.)

Even if she didn’t mean to say it, she said it because it was in her head to say. See what I’m sayin’?

Not only that, but as reported by MSNBC this is the same KKKaren who quoted Hitler literally on just her second day as a member of Congress.

“The Illinois Republican spoke at a conservative “Save the Republic” rally saying;

“Each generation has the responsibility to teach and train the next generation,” Miller said. “You know, if we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing, unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing: He said, ‘Whoever has the youth, has the future.’ Our children are being propagandized.”

SEE?

She later apologized after her office initially defended the comments.

We see you, Mary.

This is a new low even for a coward like Sen. Ted Cruz.

National Rifle Association Holds Annual Meeting In Houston

Source: Brandon Bell / Getty

In the wake of the heartbreaking school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, he wasted no time blaming the preventable gun violence on everything but guns. If that wasn’t cowardly enough, Cruz gave a speech at a massive NRA (National Rifle Association) convention held just a few days later in Houston. Huff Post reports activist Benjamin Hernandez confronted the sniveling senator for a speech blaming absent fathers, video games, and social media for mass shootings across the U.S.

https://twitter.com/indivisibleHOU/status/1530406915716435968

The exchange started innocently with Hernandez approaching to ask for a photo-op at a sushi restaurant on Friday night. Instead of snapping a photo, the camera was rolling as he then questioned Cruz about his refusal to support gun control policies. “You know, I would encourage you ― I gave about a half-hour speech today at the NRA convention ― I encourage you to watch it,” Cruz said, deflecting from the topic.

“You’re directing me to your 30-minute speech, and you just can’t answer a simple question? Background checks, can’t we start there? Background checks ― is that so hard?” Hernandez asked.

He pleaded for solutions as a father of young children like the 19 Robb Elementary School students fatally shot last week. Once again, Cruz deflected by vaguely referencing Democrat’s policies and saying they would not have stopped the massacre. Even Biden’s tone-deaf promises to “fund the police” mean nothing after cops left the shooter inside with victims for more than an hour before confronting him.

Which shooter are we talking about, Ted? Between the tragedies in Buffalo and Uvalde, there were 15 other mass shootings, according to the Gun Violence ArchiveCruz’s excuses defy even the most remedial logic because, like hundreds of other domestic terrorists, the Uvalde shooter legally purchased the high-capacity weapons and ammunition.

“You can make it harder for people to get guns in this country. You know that. But you stand here, you stand at the NRA convention ― it is harder, it is harder when there are more guns to stop gun violence,” Hernandez said as security began to separate them.

“Why does this keep happening? Why did you come here to this convention to take blood money when 19 children died?” he shouted as more security dragged him to the door. “Nineteen children died! That’s on your hands, Ted Cruz!”

Hernandez is a board member of Indivisible Houston, the progressive activist group that posted the 2-minute video of the exchange on Twitter. Hernandez says he hopes to set an example through the confrontation as much as in his other activism.

“The time for civil discourse and debate ― when they allow it, which they don’t ― that’s over, to me. It is uncomfortable. Yes, it was uncomfortable for me to go and do that ― that’s not me,” he told Huff Post.

“My mom was even surprised that I dropped the F-bomb. But this week has had me dropping F-bombs, because I’m just so incensed that they would stand there and not do anything about it.”

Another video of the confrontation went viral, racking up more than 10 million views and counting. Both the argument and organizing Hernandez does in Houston proves that voting isn’t the only way we need to make our voices heard. The calls for politeness and civility mean nothing when leaders refuse to protect elders in grocery stores and children in schools. Is there anything less civilized than that?

Vote-a-Rama

Source: Tom Williams / Getty

There’s a special place in caucasity hell (so, basically Texas) for white people who think they’re in a position to speak on behalf of Black people, or, in this case, a white man who thinks he can speak for Black women.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and his Kroger brand Wolverine beard need to shut the f**k up.

In the last episode of Ted “Boy, if you don’t shave that used brillo pad off yo’ face” Cruz’s podcast Verdict with Ted Cruz, the Lone Start State senator claimed President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate a Black woman for the next Supreme Court Justice is “actually an insult to Black women.”

“The fact that he’s willing to make a promise at the outset, that it must be a Black woman, I gotta say that’s offensive,” Cuz and his sentient neckbeard said. “You know, you know Black women are what, 6% of the US population? He’s saying to 94% of Americans, ‘I don’t give a damn about you, you are ineligible’.”

First of all, in the history of the U.S. Supreme court, 108 out of the 115 justices have been white men and a Black woman has never held the position. Now, if you think that demographic breakdown happened due to merit and not because for the vast majority of America’s existence, white maleness was a prerequisite for holding political office, it’s because you’re a delusional white nationalist who views history through caucasified-colored glasses.

Secondly, it’s hardly plausible that a pledge to have a single Black woman fill a single justice seat no other Black woman in history has ever filled indicates that Biden doesn’t “give a damn about” anyone else. It’s literally just one seat.

Thirdly, STFU, CRUZ, AND GET YOUR BEARD SHAPED UP BEFORE IT RUNS AWAY FROM YOUR FACE TO JOIN DONALD TRUMP’S TOUPEE IN HOLY WHITE NAP-TRIMONY!!

Lastly, where was this energy when Trump pledged to nominate a woman to sit on the Supreme Court before appointing Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the position less than two years ago? (Also Ronald Reagan did the same when he nominated former justice Sandra Day O’Connor.)

And what was Cruz’s response to Barrett being seated?

“I think you’re an amazing role model for little girls,” he said.

Anyway, back to the part about how Black women should be offended by being considered for positions of power.

“And he’s also sayingit’s actually an insult to Black women. If he came and said, ‘I’m gonna put the best jurist on the court and he looked at a number of people and he ended up nominating a Black woman, he could credibly say, ‘OK I’m nominating the person who’s most qualified.’ He’s not even pretending to say thathe’s saying, ‘If you’re a White guy, tough luck. If you’re a White woman, tough luck. You don’t qualify.’”

For the record, Biden never once said being a Black woman would be the only qualification his nominee would need—Cruz just can’t seem to imagine that there are plenty of women who happen to be Black that would be perfectly suited for the job.

At the end of the day, Cruz never expressed issue with a president promising to nominate a woman until Blackness was involved, and now he’s projecting his own offendedness onto Black womenwhen his face doesn’t even have the sense to be offended by the crowd of furry spiders having a cookout on his chin.

Rep. Marilyn Strickland said it best. “The only thing insulting to this Black woman is Ted Cruz thinking he speaks for us.”

Exactly.

Even when Kamala Harris is on Comedy Central, it’s a serious matter.

Vice President Kamala Harris...

Vice President Kamala Harris’s appeared on Tha God’s Honest Truth with Charlamagne Tha God on Friday to discuss the Biden Administration’s first year, her work behind the scenes, and the path to political progress. According to People, the interview ended with a heated exchange when Charlamagne Tha God pressed about how the administration will deal with Sen. Joe Manchin “ruining the country.”

Harris redirected the criticism to Republicans, who have resisted their policies at every turn, threatening voting rights and reproductive justice.

“I think it’s a mistake to try and think about this only through the lens of Democrats versus Democrats, when the fact is Republicans are consistently and unanimously standing in the way of progress,” Harris diplomatically responded.

Charlemagne refused to let Harris or Manchin off the hook about the political standstill. “We need you to be the superhero who saves democracy … Are you willing to be that superhero?”

The Vice President expressed her frustration and the Democrats’ determination to “keep fighting” for key issues like voting rights and police reform, which the Republicans fought at every turn.

“Who’s the real president of this country? Is it Joe Manchin or Joe Biden?” Charlamagne finally asked after getting no specific answers about the senator’s obstruction.

“Come on, Charlamagne. It’s Joe Biden,” Harris said. “No, no, no, no. It’s Joe Biden. And don’t start talking like a Republican about asking whether or not he’s president. It’s Joe Biden. And I’m vice president and my name is Kamala Harris. And the reality is because we are in office, we do things like the child tax credit, which is going to reduce Black child poverty by 50 percent … It is the work of saying we’re going to get lead out of pipes and paint because our babies are suffering because of that. It is the work of saying people who ride public transit deserve the same kind of dignity that anybody else does. So, let’s improve that system.”

We never got a direct answer to Charlamagne’s questions like “do you think Joe Manchin is a problem?” Like Harris said earlier when asked if she attributes unfair scrutiny to being a Black woman, she wants to focus on the work ahead of the administration and what they’ve accomplished so far.

Watch the full interview below.

What do you think? Did Charlemagne’s questions go too far or did Vice President Harris’ answers fall short?

Just 24 hrs. after being found not guilty of all charges, Kyle Rittenhouse might be taking it back to court with a potential defamation case against President Biden. According to Fox News, the case would be over a tweet suggesting Rittenhouse was a White supremacist.

Per Fox, Todd McMurtry, who helped former Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann reach a settlement with CNN over a defamation lawsuit, said Biden could be held accountable for a September 30, 2020, social media post weeks before he was elected.

“There’s no other way to put it: the President of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night,” Biden’s tweet said.

To get his point across, President Biden included a video along with the tweet. In the video, Kyle Rittenhouse can be seen holding an AR-style rifle on the night he killed two protesters and wounded a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin, during unrest after the police shooting of Jacob Blake a month earlier.

“What you take from that tweet is that Kyle Rittenhouse was using his rifle and engaging in White supremacist misconduct so it’s actionable,” McMurtry told Fox News. “Not necessarily going to win, but it’s actionable.”

Yesterday, a Kenosha County jury acquitted Rittenhouse of all the charges against him, including first-degree intentional homicide and recklessly endangering safety. And while he’s been acquitted of murder, he’s still a killer.

This, unfortunately, was no shock to much of the world and to the victims’ families who lost their loved ones to the teenager last year.

Anthony Huber was one of the victims who died during the third night of protests following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Huber’s mother, Karen Bloom, and his father, John Huber released the following statement after the verdict was read:

“We are heartbroken and angry that Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted in his criminal trial for the murder of our son Anthony Huber. There was no justice today for Anthony, or for Mr. Rittenhouse’s other victims, Joseph Rosenbaum and Gaige Grosskreutz. courtroom and repeatedly watch videos of our son’s murder, and because we have been subjected to many hurtful and nasty comments in the past year. But we watched the trial closely, hoping it would bring us closure.

That did not happen. Today’s verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son. It sends the unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town, incite violence, and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street. We hope that decent people will join us in forcefully rejecting that message and demanding more of our laws, our officials, and our justice system.

Make no mistake: our fight to hold those responsible for Anthony’s death accountable continues in full force. Neither Mr. Rittenhouse nor the Kenosha police who authorized his bloody rampage will escape justice. Anthony will have his day in court.

No reasonable person viewing all of the evidence could conclude that Mr. Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. In response to racist and violent calls to action from militia members, Mr. Rittenhouse travelled to Kenosha illegally armed with an assault rifle. He menaced fellow citizens in the street. Though he was in open violation of a curfew order, Kenosha police encouraged him to act violently. Kenosha police told militia members that they would push peaceful protestors toward the militia so that the militia could “deal with them.” Soon after, Mr. Rittenhouse killed Joseph Rosenbaum. The police did nothing. Concerned citizens, confronted with a person shooting indiscriminately on the street, stepped in to stop the violence. Anthony was shot in the chest trying to disarm Mr. Rittenhouse and stop his shooting spree. Still, the police did nothing. Mr. Rittenhouse continued to shoot, maiming Gaige Grosskreutz. The police let Mr. Rittenhouse leave the scene freely. Mr. Rittenhouse came to Kenosha armed to kill. Kenosha police encouraged him to act violently, and our son is dead as a result.

We are so proud of Anthony, and we love him so much. He is a hero who sacrificed his own life to protect other innocent civilians. We ask that you remember Anthony and keep him in your prayers.”

While the Huber’s still grieve and process the verdict, Rittenhouse’s mother, Wendy Rittenhouse, had something to say about Biden’s past tweet.

Wendy told Sean Hannity from Fox News, last week that Biden cast her son as a White supremacist for votes.

“When I saw that I was shocked, I was angry. President Biden don’t know my son whatsoever, and he’s not a White supremacist,” she said. “He’s not a racist. And [Biden] did that for the votes. And I was so angry for a while at him and what he did to my son. He defamed him.”

Leo Terrell, a civil rights lawyer and Fox News’ token, also had something to say about Biden’s tweet.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “America Reports,” he stated:

“Let me give Joe Biden advice: Be very careful what you say because you’re subject to a possible defamation lawsuit,” Terrell said after the verdict. “This was a statement that Joe Biden is going to have to pay for and justify. When you just throw this stuff out there, you take risks,” he added.

Before the verdict, Sandmann urged Rittenhouse to pursue defamation proceedings against the media because the parallels between their cases were “impossible not to draw.”

“Kyle was 17-years-old when he became a household name after that terrible tragedy in Kenosha,” Sandmann wrote in the Daily Mail op-ed published Tuesday, “I was 16-years-old when I was catapulted into the national conversation.”

He said that Rittenhouse was the victim of trial by media in which he was “almost immediately labeled a ‘white supremacist’ and a ‘domestic terrorist.’”

The world finally heard from man of the hour Friday when Kyle Rittenhouse broke his silence.

“I believe they came to the correct verdict, and I’m glad everything went well,” the teenager said. “It’s been a rough journey, but we made it through it. We made it through the hard part.” per NBC Chicago.

He will have an exclusive with Sean Hannity on Monday night.

Did you tune into the verdict? What are your thoughts about the case?

Last Thursday, veteran actor and producer Alec Baldwin was on the set of a new film, Rust, which was being shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico, when he fired a prop gun that killed Halyna Hutchins, the film’s director of photography, and injured director Joel Souza. It was a senseless tragedy that most people—decent human beings who don’t see a person’s accidental death as a reason to score political “F you” points—responded to with shock, sadness, and sympathy for the victims and for the man who has to live with what happened.

Then there are right-wingers like house negress Candace Owens and Trump degenerate (I know—that’s redundant) Donald Trump Jr. who decided to express their non-condolences by refusing to take a break from being terrible and deplorable people.

Candace Owens & Donald Trump Jr.

Source: David Levenson/ SOPA Images / Getty

Both of them appear to be so salty over Baldwin’s portrayals of ex-President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live that they decided an innocent woman’s death presented them with the perfect opportunity for an unseasoned clap-back.

First, let’s start with Candace “Can I get a Coon-baya, my white Lord?” Owens.

“Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers,” the sunken place queen who traded her edges for Trump butt prints long ago wrote. “What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic justice if it weren’t for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him. Pray for their families. So sad.”

I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Owens, like every other conservative with a platform, constantly accuses progressives of being “snowflakes” because they get offended by offensive things, but she’s so offended by the mocking of the most mockable President in recent history that she thinks an incident ending in a woman’s death would be “poetic justice” if not for said woman’s death.

But hey—realizing a post is inappropriate for the occasion and keeping it in the drafts requires human decency, and for that, you must first be human, and not an ashy, tap-dancing succubus who thinks bad wigs will stop people from noticing her head is shaped like a guitar pick.

Now let’s move on to the guy who carries the name Trump but still somehow manages to be even less charismatic than this guy:

Donald Trump Jr., The Trump that not even Trump supporters care about, took to Instagram to reveal that Baldwin has been living in his head rent free all because he’d been keeping SNL alive by making fun of his Tang-flavored father who, by the way, spent his entire presidency and campaign making fun of everyone he doesn’t like, including a disabled reporter.

Trump Jr. captioned one of his tasteless posts with a series of questions, some of which would have been genuine, understandable inquiries if it weren’t so clear he was only asking them because Baldwin got paid to talk about his daddy on national TV.

“Why was a prop gun loaded and capable of firing? Why was an actor pointing a gun at a cinematographer and pulling the trigger?” Trump Jr. asked. “Why do those who hate guns so much have no problem profiting from them. Why are those who hate guns and profit from them not learning basic gun safety so as to be able to double-check these things themselves?”

Since we’re just out here asking rhetorical questions that probably have actual answers, I have a few for hairy baby Trump.

  • Have you ever been on a film set to see what close proximity crew members are to the actors?
  • How would you know what was going on in the scene to know where Baldwin should have been pointing the gun?
  • Would you have been happy if it were an actor who was killed and not the cinematographer?
  • Why do you think the existence of guns in a movie is the same as gun promotion?
  • Why does your beard always look like you ate it and vomited it all over your own face?
  • Do they not do shapeups at Supercuts?
  • Why can I always smell your breath through the camera and why does it always smell like Funyuns and earring backs?

Neither Owens nor Trump Jr. cares how their insensitive posts might make grieving family members of Hutchins feel. Because, again, you have to be human to show signs of humanity, and neither of these snowflakey troglodytes qualify.

There are certainly notable differences between Democrats and Republican and Democratic and Republican-run administrations, but when it comes to foreign occupation and the handling of any given immigration crisis at the U.S. border, the two parties often appear to be indistinguishable.

TOPSHOT-US-POLITICS-IMMIGRATION-TEXAS

President Joe Biden promised his administration wouldn’t be Trump 2.0 when it came to the subject of immigration and, to be fair, he hasn’t quite defaulted on that promise all the way yet—but right now, under his administration, U.S. border agents in Del Rio, Texas, are rounding up thousands of Haitian migrants who had fled their nation, which suffered a massive earthquake that decimated the country’s infrastructure leaving countless human beings without food, water or power, and putting them on flights back to the homes they tried desperately to escape from.

According to CBS News, U.S. officials sent some 320 Haitian migrants between three flights to Port-au-Prince on Sunday and have moved to expel the rest of more than 12,000 migrants camped around a bridge in Del Rio who had crossed the border from Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. In fact, the U.S. is planning to begin seven more of these expulsion flights daily starting Wednesday, and, since Friday, 3,300 migrants have already been removed from the Del Rio camp and either put on flights or sent to detention centers, according to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz.

Yael Schacher, the senior U.S. advocate at Refugees International, said massive deportations of this magnitude carried out without giving migrants the opportunity to seek asylum hasn’t happened since 1992. Those deportations also primarily involved—you guessed it—Haitian refugees.

“The rapid expulsions were made possible by a pandemic-related authority adopted by former President Donald Trump in March 2020 that allows for migrants to be immediately removed from the country without an opportunity to seek asylum,” CBS reported, also noting that Biden “exempted unaccompanied children from the order.” (So, there’s that, at least.)

But the issue isn’t just that U.S. officials are doing this, it’s how they’re going about it.

By now, many of you have seen the images of border patrol agents on horseback giving off big slave patrol energy by using what appear to be whips while rounding up Black migrants for detention and/or immediate deportation.

According to the Associated Press, Ortiz and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas promised to look into the matter, but they both denied seeing anything wrong happening in the Texas town and they claimed the agents only used reigns to control their horses.

Mind you, Mayorkas is the same man who responded to the heartbreaking crisis with these words for migrants seeking refuge, according to AP:

“If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned. Your journey will not succeed, and you will be endangering your life and your family’s life.”

Imagine lecturing people who are already risking all to escape the imminent dangers of their homeland by warning them they are “endangering your life and your family’s life” by fleeing to somewhere that is clearly safer.

Meanwhile, the White House is doing its best not to look callous by being somewhat critical of what is happening at the Del Rio camp.

The Guardian reported that White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the agents on horseback and she responded saying;

“I have seen some of the footage. I don’t have the full context. I can’t imagine what context would make that appropriate. I don’t think anyone seeing that footage would think it was acceptable or appropriate.”

Has Psaki even met Ortiz, Mayorkas or the millions of conservative Americans who have always met immigration news with contempt and apathy?

Although a lifetime has passed since Martin Luther King Jr. famously delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington, activists today are still working to make equal rights a reality on the 58th anniversary.

According to HuffPost, nationwide protests will commemorate the historic event by compelling Senate Democrats to take action on two major bills to protect voting rights. The historic 1963 demonstration is credited with pushing the country towards historic political victories like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Icons like Adam Clayton Powell, Thurgood Marshall, Gloria Richardson, and a young John Lewis led the charge at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Today’s March On For Voting Rights will feature Martin Luther King III, Andrea Waters King, and Rev. Al Sharpton. In addition to Washington, D.C., more than 40 cities have demonstrations planned, including Atlanta, Houston, Miami, and Phoenix, where state legislators are pushing for laws that would drag America’s political progress back to the Jim Crow era. In the wake of Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss, GOP politicians across the country have been working overtime to restrict mail-in ballots, voter ID requirements, early voting, and other policies that protect marginalized communities’ access and rights to vote.

Despite the pandemic, thousands are marching to demand that Democrat leadership prioritizes the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. These two bills are key pieces of legislation for protecting and expanding voting rights from oppressive opposition that looks disturbingly similar to what Martin Luther King faced. The Senate and House are also under pressure for leaving the rent moratorium vulnerable to get overturned by the Supreme Court yesterday while both bodies are in recess. The rights and livelihoods of millions of Americans hang in the balance and today, the voice of the people is loudly demanding action from leadership.

When MAGA enthusiast Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by a police officer during the January 6 World War White People attack on the U.S. Capitol, conservatives across America proved that if they have nothing else, they have the nerve. Ex-President Donald Trump, pundits for Republicans OnlyFans network Fox News and other right-wingers all immediately jumped on the Babbitt bandwagon.

All of a sudden team “Blue Lives Matter” was condemning the officer as a “murderer” and the rioter became a martyr because riots are suddenly great again as long as they’re being carried out by idiot Caucasians looking to cancel democracy and not Black Lives Matter advocates looking to cancel systemic racism.

Anyway, the Capitol cop who shot Babbitt, Lt. Michael Byrd, has spoken out about the riot and the shooting in an exclusive interview with NBC News.

“I know that day I saved countless lives,” Byrd said in the interview. “I know members of Congress, as well as my fellow officers and staff, were in jeopardy and in serious danger. And that’s my job.”

Byrd—who was cleared of all wrongdoing in the shooting earlier this year—explained to NBC that during the Rage Against the Voting Machines at the Capitol, 60 to 80 House members and staffers were hiding out in an area of the building he and other officers had barricaded with furniture in order to protect them from the mob.

“Once we barricaded the doors, we were essentially trapped where we were,” he said. “There was no way to retreat. No other way to get out. If they get through that door, they’re into the House chamber and upon the members of Congress.”

Byrd said Babbitt and other rioters were smashing the glass doors in an effort to break into the area he was guarding—which can be seen in video footage of the shooting—but because of the barricade, “It was impossible for me to see what was on the other side.”

What he said he could see was Babbitt trying to climb through the broken glass.

“I could not fully see her hands or what was in the backpack or what the intentions are,” Byrd said. “But they had shown violence leading up to that point.”

He also said he shouted at Babbitt and others several times to back away from the area, but they didn’t comply. (Sound familiar?)

“I tried to wait as long as I could,” he told Holt. “I hoped and prayed no one tried to enter through those doors. But their failure to comply required me to take the appropriate action to save the lives of members of Congress and myself and my fellow officers.”

This, of course, is a departure from claims made by Terry Roberts, an attorney representing Babbit’s family in a wrongful death lawsuit, who described the shooting as an “ambush” and said Babbitt was shot without warning.

But again, in any other situation where a cop said they had to shoot because their victim wouldn’t comply with their orders, caucasity-infused conservatives would have no issue taking that at face value.

And none of those unarmed Black people who were shot even attempted to overthrow the government.

Go figure.

damage after riots

Two weeks ago, the Justice Department declined to file criminal charges against the officer responsible for the death of Ashli Babbit during the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Newsweek now reports that her family plans to file a civil suit against the Capitol police department and the officer responsible for at least $10 million.

Terrell Roberts, the attorney for the family, claims that Babbit was guilty of little more than a misdemeanor of trespassing when she was shot in the shoulder while breaking through a window to breach the Speaker’s Lobby. Babbit was a 14-year veteran of the Air Force who dedicated much of her now-erased online presence to far-right conspiracy theories and undying love for Trump.

Brewing outrage about the police’s use of excessive force to end Babbit’s life rings hollow to many people after weeks of victim-blaming vitriol directed at children like Adam Toledo and Ma’Khia Bryant, who were both recently gunned down by police. Supporters of insurrectionists and the Cheeto in Chief even memorialized Babbitt by attempting to co-opt the #SayHerNamemovement, dedicated to the often erased Black women victims of police violence. Roberts went on to criticize the injustice of qualified immunity, deprived constitutional rights, and a system dedicated to protecting trigger-happy police more than the citizens they claim to serve.

The narrative of an oppressed minority deprived of justice by violent agents of the state sure does sound familiar! It’s almost as if justifying police murders sets a dangerous and unethical precedent. With hundreds of Capitol rioters facing criminal charges, and thousands more likely to be identified by law enforcement, the hypocritical struggle is real for the most frequent groupies of the boys in blue.
