Michael Jackson

Today marks 10 years since the world stopped and everyone tuned in to their television to watch an unconscious Michael Jackson be carried into an ambulance. So much has happened in this last decade since the King Of Pop was laid to rest — so we must address the elephant of the day. With all the great music and moments MJ gave us throughout his 40 year career, it’s natural to want to celebrate today by blasting some of his greatest hits.

But with the January 2019 release of Leaving Neverland (a two-part documentary centering on two accusers who recount in graphic detail how they were sexually abused by Jackson starting at very young ages), it’s also natural to feel conflicted about how you want to approach this day.

As USA Today put it:

“We may never resolve our conflicted feelings about Michael Jackson. It’s the challenge of holding two opposing ideas in your head at the same time”

It’s totally a personal decision to decide how and if you want to honor Michael Jackson on his day. Some people are still Team MJ and want his legacy to be left alone. As sister Janet Jackson told told the UK newspaper The Sunday Times:

“[Michael’s legacy] will continue. I love it when I see kids imitating him, when adults still listen to his music. It just lets you know the impact that my family has had on the world.”

Then there are others whose entire idea of Michael Jackson changed after watching the documentary.

Nevertheless, both people can agree that we’ve probably learned more about MJ since his passing than we did when he was alive. Check it out when you hit the flip.

Andre Iguodala On The Breakfast Club

The Golden State Warriors season might be over but Andre Iguodala is still punching the clock to promote his new book The Sixth Man.

#23 sat down with the breakfast club this morning to dig into the book and a whole lot more. When asked about his former coach Mark Jackson and his unceremonious firing from the team, Andre kept it stack and said he believes that Jackson has been blackballed from the NBA. Iggy also talked about the Warriors dynasty and the potential return of injured stars Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant.

YouTube Star & Gamer Etika Is Found Dead In East River

The worst was confirmed on Tuesday about a popular YouTuber who had been missing for a couple days.

According to NBC New York, the YouTuber and gamer from Brooklyn, Desmond Amofah a.k.a. Etika, was found dead in the waters near South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan around 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The NYPD police confirmed his identity on Tuesday with a tweet.

“We regret to inform that Desmond Amofah aka Etika has been found deceased,” they wrote.

Though an autopsy hasn’t confirmed Amofah’s cause of death yet, authorities are considering suicide as a possibility.

Last week, before Amofah went missing, he posted a cryptic 8-minute video online apologizing to the folks he felt like he let down. Police sources say Amofah has a history with mental illness. They said he’s been hospitalized before and had the potential to be a danger to himself. Nobody was in contact with Amofah since 8 p.m. Wednesday of last week. Before his body was found, officials came upon his personal items, including a phone and identification, on the Manhattan Bridge last week.

Smh, too sad.

Since news of Etika’s death hit the net, him and his family have received an outpouring of condolences on social media. The YouTube Creators account tweeted out:

“We mourn the loss of Etika, a beloved member of our gaming creator community. All of us at YouTube are sending condolences to his loved ones and fans.”

Wendy Williams’ Son Kevin Jr. Enters “Not Guilty” Plea In Assault Case Against Father

After making it PAINFULLY clear that she’s moving on from Kevin Hunter Sr., Wendy Williams was forced to be around her soon-to-be ex-husband of 22 years this week, as their son was due in court today. Last month Kevin Jr. was arrested and accused of assaulting his father outside of a Krauszer’s Food Stores in West Orange, NJ. According to Page Six, he has officially entered a plea of “not guilty.”

“The prosecutor reportedly asked for more time to review the case, and no action was taken. A source told Page Six that both Williams and Kevin Sr. — who are in the midst of a divorce — were at the courthouse but stayed outside of the courtroom so as not to make a spectacle,” the site reports.

Allegedly, Kevin Jr. called his father “a b*tch” and a fight ensued from there.

“According to a heavily redacted police report we obtained, responding officers were told that things escalated after Kevin Jr.’s comment, causing Kevin Sr. to strike his son ‘with a closed fist to the face,’ which Kevin Sr. later denied,” Page Six states. The two were separated by a bystander, and then Kevin Jr. proceeded to call his mother, who was not present at the scene… Kevin Jr. had no signs of injury or complaints of pain and refused medical attention following the incident.”

Issa Rae took a break from the small screen to focus on getting her movie credits up and now she’s back to working on her hit HBO series Insecure, she told fans this weekend. While traveling home, she hopped on Twitter to talk to her loyal followers about any and everything in a funny, informative, and impromptu Q&A.

“Airporting. Y’all wanna talk?” she asked, presumably after hitting up Day 2 at POPSUGAR Play/Ground 2019, and of course folks had all the questions. From what she’s up to currently to revealing her favorite hood movie (take a guess!), it was an amusing conversation that went on far longer than we thought it would — you’ve got to love Issa!

Back in the day, being gay was a taboo topic within hip hop. Although there is definitely more work to be done, these artists are unapologetically living their authentic lives. For example, back in 2017, Chance The Rapper‘s brother, Taylor Bennett, set his soul free by revealing via Twitter that he identifies as bisexual — just before his 21st birthday. Chance also took to social media to congratulate his little brother on his courage.

From Taylor to Young M.A. these rappers are making the bold move to be who they are, despite haters. In honor of LGBT Pride Month, check out these eight rappers who are openly LGBT and proud.
