Shaquille Dukes Arrested & Accused Of Attempting To Steal Hospital IV

A black man suffering double pneumonia was racially profiled at a Freeport, Illinois hospital. Shaquille Dukes was a patient at FHN Memorial Hospital after falling ill during his vacation. According to Dukes who wrote about the incident on Facebook, he was told by a doctor that he could walk around outside as “long as he didn’t leave hospital property.” He then went on a stroll with his IV bag still attached and his brother and friend by his side before the profiling took place.

“After receiving doctors orders to walk around, I was stopped by an overzealous, racist, security officer, who claimed that I ‘was trying to leave the hospital to sell the IV equipment on eBay.’ After a brief conversation, the guard called the police, I was advised by Sgt. Jeff Zalaznik, badge number 116, that I was being arrested for attempted theft, of the IV equipment that was clearly attached to my arm.”

The Journal-Standard reports that police said Dukes, his brother, and the other individual were arrested only because of their conduct toward the security officer and the police officers once they arrived.

Dukes was ultimately charged with disorderly conduct after an investigation revealed he had no intention of stealing the IV stand, said Freeport police Lt. Andrew Schroeder. Police have not been able to confirm whether Dukes had permission to walk outside of the hospital.

“The issue here is that his actions were why he was arrested,” Schroeder said according to The Journal-Standard. “Had they been able to engage in a civil discourse with hospital security, we wouldn’t have been called at all.”

SMH, that man didn’t HAVE to be civil to a security guard who was accusing him of stealing.

In addition to Dukes saying he was profiled, he’s also revealing that once the IV was removed from his arm and his rescue inhaler was taken, he had an asthma attack and a seizure while in police custody.

“Eventually while I was being transported, I passed out and had a seizure,” Dukes said. “When I woke up in the back of the car, I had an asthma attack. I didn’t get my inhaler until probably four minutes later.”

Police are adamant however that they “followed the proper protocol” when they realized Dukes was having a medical event.

Man Wrongfully Convicted Of Armed Robbery Freed After 17 Years

A man in Louisiana was released from prison on Thursday, June 27 after spending more than 17 years in prison for a crime that he didn’t commit.

Royal Clark Jr.’s road to exoneration began after the New Orleans Innocence Project convinced the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s office to re-examine fingerprint evidence in his case, according to reports from NOLA.com.

The IPNO filed a motion to throw out Clark’s conviction after he was proven innocent. Judicial District Court Judge Donald Rowan vacated the conviction following a short hearing Thursday. Clark walked out of Louisiana’s Angola prison one day after his 42nd birthday and was greeted by his mother, father, sister, and his son.

Clark was wrongfully convicted on the strength of an eyewitness who falsely identified him as the suspect in a Burger King robbery all the way back in 2001. The guilty verdict was handed down on Clark’s 25th birthday.

Even though Clark always maintained innocence during his time in jail, it wasn’t until the Innocence Project began representing him last year that he finally had his chance at being released. The organization requested that the D.A. take another look at a fingerprint found on a cup used by the suspect prior to the robbery.

When authorities ran the fingerprint through a state database and it ended up matching the DNA of Jessie Perry, a 54-year-old man serving 30 years in prison for a string of similar robberies. According to authorities, the advancement in technology used to exonerate Clark wasn’t around at the time of the crime.

“There is currently no clear law that gives prisoners a right to ask for these forensic database searches in cases not involving DNA,” the IPNO pointed out in a news release according to The Advocate. “If the [D.A.’s Office] had refused to re-examine and run the prints, Mr. Clark would likely have stayed in prison until he was 74 years old for a crime he did not commit.”

The IPNO advocates for the Louisiana Legislature, or the Louisiana Supreme Court, to “create a clear legal right for prisoners to access forensic databases in appropriate cases so that truth can prevail.”

Safaree Begs And Pleads For Erica Mena’s Forgiveness

Safaree was caught creepin’ the other day and now he’s begging for forgiveness. Earlier this week, we reported that Safaree’s ex-gf exposed text messages from him where he professed his love for her and downplayed his engagement to Erica Mena. “I am NOT getting married,” Safaree wrote to Gabrielle Davis in messages as recent as May. The model said she exposed him because he continued to contact her, all while flaunting his celebrity coupledom.

Erica seemingly confirmed Safaree was indeed sending the naughty texts. In her reaction, she posted a video were she trash a few down roses in vases on her home floor. Yikes. You can see that HERE. Last night, Safaree took to Twitter to apologize. He wrote:
