Months before the warmer weather picked up, Meg Thee Stallion set the precedent for a Hot Girl summer. Of course, once the fellas got a whiff of our plans to have ALL the fun — maybe even at their expense — they declared it a City Boyz summer too, and to be honest we’ve kind of been feeling like they’re in the lead.

But over the weekend, Hot Girl Meg hit social media for a quick huddle with her team and it was the pep talk we needed. “Just because y’all dudes doing f*ck sh*t and getting CAUGHT don’t mean y’all in the ‘lead,’” she tweeted. “Real hot girls move in silence… think about that lol.”

In other words, Hot Girls, do not be discouraged…it’s still our summer. To give you some inspiration on how to get the most out of these next couple of months, we put together an official 2019 Hot Girl Coaching Staff, starting with Meg. Check it out.

Hot Girl Meg – Leader of the stallions, Meg owns her sexuality and doesn’t let anyone tell her who she SHOULD be.

Hot Girl Rih – Original Hot Girl Rih is all the inspiration we need to know how to move this summer. She handles business, she has fun, and she’s 100% herself at all times.

Hot Girl Jordyn – Jordyn one-upped one of the most famous families in the world, then refocused the attention on her brand and how GOOD she looks. Y’all thought f*ck boy Tristan Thompson was about to hold her back? Not in this lifetime, or in the next.

Hot Girl Trina – There can be no Hot Girl roster without mentioning the baddest b*tch. Trina is still every inch the diamond princess that we grew up knowing. She holds no punches and GAWD… that BAWDY.

Hot Girl Lori – Y’all know about Ms. Harvey and how she skrrt skrrt’ed on several of your celebrity crushes without batting an eye. Savage.

Honorable mentions…

Saweetie – Saweetie is all cuffed up, but her music inspires us to go out and get what we want, whatever that may be.

Caresha is a little pregnant at the moment. But she is definitely one of the young women who inspired this Hot Girl/City Girls summer movement.

It appears Taina may be newly single… and by the looks of her instagram, she’s ready to have a hot girl summer indeed. This here is a hot girl in training.

Snowfall FX

Source: @PhotosByNae/iOne Digital

Snowfall is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of my favorite television shows on air. Returning to TV with its third season tomorrow, the FX crime series is not only gripping to watch, it’s John Singleton‘s rewriting of Black American history, as it tells the truth most of us never knew about the crack epidemic in the United States and the country’s war on drugs. Before the late and legendary Singleton would pass away, he left us all with a piece of himself, but also a piece of our own history. Therefore, I can’t express enough how powerful this show is — for prior generations, for our generation, and for generations to come.

Just before a star-studded screening of the premiere episode in Times Square, NYC last week, the cast hit up the iOne Digital offices to talk all about this third season and more. I pointed out that in the official Snowfall trailer, it appears Damson Idris‘ character Franklin Saint is on top of the world and loving his rise to power in the drug game. But Idris tells Global Grind his climb is not without its pitfalls. Idris says the reality of Franklin’s personal relationships, and the effects of his business on the surrounding community, begin to weigh heavily on the South Central drug dealer.

“Ohhh, ‘we gonna see him on jets and he’s gonna enjoy that money’ — nope!,” Idris tells us with a laugh. “Franklin Saint… he’s understated, he’s not flashy. He’s in South Central and what we know from this story… crime, the war on drugs… these are all topics and huge themes in the show, but it’s also about family and bonds, that were broken in the previous season, being brought back together. Franklin and his dad Alton. Franklin and his mom. And yes, he’s running the business in the corporate manner, but he’s also having to face the hard truths of what it’s doing to his community. That’s what we explore this season.”

Does Franklin explore love this time around? Personally, I had to know after watching him and Melody (Reign Edwards) play cat and mouse for two seasons straight.

Press Play: Franklin Saint Levels Up Big Time In This Season 3 Snowfall Teaser

“I had to wear the sock a couple of times! Let’s just say that,” he tells Global Grind. “Sorry momma,” he added lightheartedly, pointing to his TV mom Michael Hyatt who was also in the room, sitting alongside fellow Snowfall stars Amin Joseph and Angela Lewis. Joseph, who plays Franklin’s uncle Jerome Saint, reveals Hyatt’s on-screen “love affair” with Franklin’s TV dad is what’s really “awesome” about this season, though, and he doesn’t have to tell us twice!

Moreover, Hyatt, Lewis, Joseph, and Idris all say they can relate to their characters in some way. “Being a single mom raising a growing man is something I can relate to. The friendship that I think is important between Franklin and Cissy, the thing that saves them throughout all of this, is something I hope I have with my son. Because I believe that when you have that as a foundation, when sh*t gets tough, that is what you rely on,” Hyatt said with tears in her eyes.

“I relate to Aunt Louie being tired of being told ‘no,’ wanting other people to see her how she sees herself. What’s hard for me and what I’m learning from Louie is to not be so coy, to not be afraid to go after what it is that I want. I admire Louie — to a degree,” Lewis said of her character.

“The biggest thing I have in common with Franklin is his relationship with his family, most particularly his mom. When I look at Michael Hyatt, I see my mom. My mom raised six kids all by herself; I’m the youngest. And friendship? Me and my mom, we’re best friends. She’s coming to [our NYC screening today]. She tells me she’s proud of me and I feel fulfilled. I feel like I’ve already accomplished everything in life just because she told me that she’s proud of me. That’s how I feel Franklin feels. In his relationship with Cissy, that’s what he longs for — to be accepted, to make his mom feel proud,” Idris told us, his remarks clearly tugging on Hyatt’s heartstrings.

Like Amin Joseph I was raised in Harlem, so his thoughts on how he relates to Jerome Saint hit me on a personal level. After joking about his TV wig being difficult to glue on, he told us what was on his heart.

“Playing Jerome Saint, there’s a lot of men that were perhaps born in the mid-to-late ‘60s. Men that have been disenfranchised and they live within the four corners of their neighborhood and are, sort of, lost souls walking. I could throw a rock and hit a middle-aged Black man that’s living in a shell of himself and I feel like that’s where we meet Jerome. Yes, he’s jovial and he’s fun, but that’s a man that has been broken by the system, has been incarcerated, he’s seen some of the nastier parts of living. That’s a challenge and, I think, a circle of truth — to portray those type of men who are, perhaps, voiceless. We’ve never really seen them on television in a three-dimensional way. You just see ‘em on the corner, wasting their lives… without the back story, without the explanation of the dreams deferred. That’s something to live up to with the character that I play. I relate to my voiceless cousins and uncles and grandfathers that spoke a certain way and strutted a certain way, from the walk to how they talk. Even Jerome’s tumultuous relationship with his common law wife Louie — we go at each other for real, but there’s a love underneath that. A lot of people wouldn’t understand. You can judge Jerome’s character but I’ve seen men like that.”

Tune into Snowfall tomorrow, July 10, at 10 p.m. on FX and may John Singleton rest in peace knowing his loved ones are carrying on with his dream.

Snowfall Cast Talks Significance Of John Singleton’s Hit Crime Series

We are still mourning the loss of beloved director, producer, and screenwriter John Singleton. But, as difficult as it is for each one of us, we can only imagine how deeply his friends, family, and colleagues have been affected. Prior to their NYC screening of the season 3 premiere episode, the Snowfall cast talked to Bossip about what Singleton meant to each one of them and what it’s been like to carry on with his legacy. For those who don’t watch, Snowfall is Singleton’s creation… a way to tell the truth about how crack really became a widespread epidemic in the Black community.

Damson Idris, who plays kingpin Franklin Saint on the hit FX series, tells Bossip Singleton’s presence is still very much felt on set.

“We have a chair on set with John’s name on it, so he’s still with us,” he reveals. “For me personally, he was my big brother. He was like my sensei. He taught me so many codes. The best thing about John was that he empowered everyone around him. So even in his absence, which isn’t an absence, we’re able to stay confident, carry on his vision, keep his authenticity and make him proud. If he saw this whole season, he would’ve been proud. That’s what lets me sleep at night.”

Angela Lewis adds that though they play a family on-screen, they’ve also become family off-screen and continue to face the loss of their mentor and friend together.

“I think it would’ve been harder to not go on,” Lewis said. “He would have been disappointed. We lift each other up, we have each other’s backs, we are such a family. We cry together, we laugh together, we remember him together, we honor him together, and to not continue would have been awful.”

Michael Hyatt plays Franklin Saint’s mom on the crime series and she shook the room when she chimed in.

“We have all been injected with John’s guidance, his vision, his greatness,” Hyatt began. “And, what he left us with (as everybody is saying) is a rope that started with him and has just weaved through all of us. What we have developed is a oneness, I think. John started his dream to give voice to the voiceless, to tell the stories that were not being told in the truthful manner that they deserved to be told — and he has injected all of us with that. It is our duty, our responsibility to protect this show and protect John and to continue that task of protecting Cissy, Louie, Jerome, and Franklin and all of the stories that we’re telling… because we understand that we are telling the stories of our ancestors, our cousins, our sisters, our brothers, our mothers, and fathers. It’s not just a job, we are conduits of truth, telling the story to many people who don’t understand it. I was a kid at Howard, or even living in NY… I didn’t know what the f*ck those pipe things were on the floor. I didn’t know any of this sh*t — what consciousness did I have? I am learning a part of my community. If that’s my story, how many of US understand what was happening to us? How many of US believe the stories that we saw on the news… of these ‘wayward people who don’t have a future and they’re doing crack?’ These are the things that we were fed, but thankfully, with someone like John — who says ‘no, that is not what was happening. Let me tell you what was happening’ — now our children, we all have an understanding of what really the f*ck was going on. And, we will take this knowledge into the future, where there will be some other drama where we’re being manipulated. This will allow us to think: ‘Wait a second. What they’re feeding me on television, I don’t have to eat. Because I know there’s another truth.’ That’s what John has done.”

Season 3 of Snowfall premieres tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Tune in.

Mereba Releases “Sandstorm Video”

We love “Sandstorm” by Mereba and are excited to post the powerful visual for her latest single “Sandstorm.” The piece paints a cohesive picture of love and love lost as Mereba and Dreamville artist, J.I.D, conjure up an understated chemistry. Directed by Dawit N.M. and produced by COUSCOUS, the visual for “Sandstorm” pairs breathtaking shots with Mereba’s poetry and lyrics making for an intense experience worthy of multiple viewings.

Mereba has worked with Dawit N.M. on a number of videos, including “Planet U” and the visual EP for her stellar debut album, The Jungle is the Only Way Out. The 13-track project was released earlier this year and each song produced/co-produced by Mereba, with the exception of the 9th Wonder produced, “Black Truck.”

“In this video we wanted to play with the idea of reflection. Both literally with the use of glass/mirrors to tell the story of time passing, and metaphorically too as me and J.I.D “reflect” on relationships that ended,” says Mereba.

Mereba’s duet with J.I.D marks yet another Dreamville collaboration, as Mereba recently joined J.I.D during the North American leg of his Catch Me if You Can tour. She was then tapped for Dreamville’s highly anticipated Revenge of the Dreamers III album and can be heard on the track “PTSD” alongside Omen, Deante Hitchock & St. Beauty. Mereba has continued to impress fans and critics, proving herself as a multifaceted artist whose talents include singing, rapping, songwriting, production and instrumentation. HYPEBEAST notably described the rising star as “a powerful R&B artist with songwriting ability beyond her years.”

Ariana Grande

Source: Splash / Splash News

Ariana Grande recently graced the cover of Vogue and although she’s definitely the star of the show with a candid interview, one fury canine is also getting some shine.

The twenty-six-year-old spoke with the magazine about some pretty personal topics, including her ended engagement to Pete Davidson, her influences as an artist and the grief she still feels from Mac Miller‘s death:

“By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, fu**. He was the best person ever, and he didn’t deserve the demons he had. I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming…less and less sticky.”

To compliment her words, Grande graced the cover in an all-Black outfit with an oversized beach hat, and while the “Thank U, Next” singer was definitely serving looks, her dog Toulouse was also giving their all for the camera.

Even Ariana herself acknowledged that her pup was conjuring immaculate radiance.

“Thanks for allowing me to be in the background of Toulouse’s first Vogue cover,” she tweeted out to Vogue.

The Internet was quick to recognize that Toulouse was a natural baddie and deserves just as much star status as his momma.

Someone even started a Twitter account for Toulouse rightly named “ariana grandes dog.”

Their first tweet?

So … hello twitter this is me the queen of the moment.”

“If it wasn’t for me would never appears in that cover,” ariana grandes dog continued. “I mean she could but I make her look good in that dress.”

There’s no doubt the dog is probably feeling himself in real life. Twitter seems to thinks so…

Get it Toulouse!

August Alsina Hospitalized

We’re extending prayers August Alsina’s way.

The R&B crooner is telling fans that he couldn’t make the ESSENCE festival because he’s been hospitalized for complications surrounding his autoimmune disease that’s apparently “raging.” Things are so bad apparently that he’s unable to walk.

“Hi guys,” says August in the clip. “As you can probably tell I’m in the hospital. So, here’s the stitch. I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. I couldn’t feel my legs and my doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital.”

“We’re doing a bunch of tests and they’re saying I have some nerve damage going on throughout my body,” he adds. “It’s like my immune system went on vacation. So, I’m just waiting on it to come back and we can get together and it can do what it do, man.”

August hasn’t given many details in his condition but he told fans in the past that he suffers from a hereditary autoimmune disease that attacks his liver. August previously talked about his condition with his friend Jada Pinkett Smith in a video titled “Explaining My Deadly Disease.”

“Reality is I’m sick all the time. I’d really like to talk about it and I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f–king cancer patient, because I’m not,” said August.

Best wishes to August Alsina, get well soon.

Today marks a major milestone for one of Hollywood’s favorite young stars.

Mr. Jaden Smith has finally reached the big two, one.

It seems like it was just yesterday he was snatching hearts with his breakout role in The Pursuit of Happyness with pops Will Smith. Now, the 21-year-old has built a successful acting and music career with memorable roles and blockbuster tracks. Just last week, he proved his staying power with the release of his second album Erys. Jaden even plays his part in activism, having donated a water filtration system to Flint, Michigan, which is still recovering from their unclean water crisis.

Of course, his star parents are already celebrating their son before Jaden could even post on social media. His mom Jada Pinkett Smith wrote on Instagram with a video, “After my first trimester… being pregnant with you were some of the happiest moments of my life. You were tangible joy. When you were born you became my first experience of tangible love.”

Will went the more funny route, writing, “Jaden is 21 today!! The equation still astounds me… Love + Tequila = a Person. 🙂 Happy Bday, J-Diggy.”

Along with the music, movies and his celebrity parents, Jaden is also known for his daring fashion sense. Over the years, he’s stunned red carpets or made headlines for rocking the most unconventional outfits.

I mean, the man dressed up in a whole a$$ white Batman suit for his “Batman” music video.

He’s definitely one artist not afraid to go there.

Rapper Turned Reality Star Says She Did Not Attack Witness To Alleged Assault Involving Remy Ma

“Love & Hip Hop: New York” starlet Brittney Taylor has been offered a no-jail plea deal following her arrest last month for allegedly assaulting a witness in her separate assault case against Remy Ma.

Taylor was in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday for a hearing on the assault rap, where cops charged her after she allegedly scratched her alleged victim Dina Khalil and threw a cell phone at her face during an early morning argument.

Prosecutors offered to drop the assault charge in exchange for Taylor pleading guilty to harassment in the second degree, a violation, along with a conditional discharge and order of protection between her and Khalil.

But the Manhattan DA’s office said that Taylor rejected the plea deal and the case is now scheduled to go to trial next month.

Following the hearing, Taylor’s lawyer Sanford Rubenstein told us that they are now mulling the deal, but also would be pushing to have the case thrown out.

He added that Taylor’s assault case doesn’t negate that Remy Ma allegedly pummelled her.

“Nothing in this case changes any of the facts with regard to the allegations of assault by Brittney Taylor against Remy Ma,” Rubenstein said.

Taylor accused Remy Ma of slugging her earlier this summer at a concert at Irving Plaza in NYC, and cops later charged her with assault. Remy Ma is due back in court this week.

Neisha Neshae Recounts Sexual Misconduct Involving Noel “Detail” Fisher

Another singer is coming forward with claims that Music Producer Noel Fisher BKA Detail is an alleged sexual predator. Previously singers Jesse Reyes, Bebe Rexha and more accused Detail (who produced ‘Drunk In Love’, ‘We Dem Boyz’ etc.) of sexual misconduct, rape, and sexual abuse.

Neisha Neshae shared a lengthy excerpt on Instagram, detailing how the slick producer allegedly tried to groom her during a studio session. Neisha says he came into the booth where she was working and started touching all over her body, insisting she continued to sing.

A previous victim of sexual abuse, Neisha says she froze, eventually leaving without her music and never to be contacted by the producer with her songs again.

I wasn’t going to ever do this … buttt I gotta get it off my chest , y’all remember when I went to work with detail in LA. (Mind you my team of 4 men were there with me)
I was there for 12 hours, I recorded 9 records he wrote. I have not seen or heard not one of those songs. Not only that, he DID come into the booth while I was WORKING, touching on me & trying to convince me to keep working amidst that. Not only had I felt undervalued he would ever try me but there were 4 people with me that would’ve body bagged this dude over this sh*t. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what to say… having experienced being molested as a child I was frozen & hurt… and I was even more sick I never got my songs.. probably because I didn’t throw my p*ssy. Which I ain’t never had to do to get where I am… so ✌🏼💯🤷🏽‍♀️

If you’re in the industry you KNOW it’s a game where people will try you ! If that’s something you’re into to get where you’re going WHATEVER , but it’s not my cup of tea… & Keep people around you who protect you and care for your well being because I honestly don’t know what would’ve happened if I would’ve been alone. I love y’all

See Neisha’s  Instagram post blasting Detail HERE.

Neisha Neshae is a talented singer-songwriter and is determined to win, despite the trauma. On her newest single “Love Life” she touches on the ups and downs of her career, including facing obstacles in the music industry.

“I was lost, now I’m trynna find my way back. I done made mistakes that I wish I could take back. Everybody loves someone they wish they could bring back. Facing up my days, running to that money ASAP. I’m just trynna make it a place where I can love life. Yeah.”

Back in December, Detail was hit with a lawsuit from one of his alleged sexual assault victims Kristina Buch. Buch accuses Detail of sexually and mentally abusing her over a two-year period, also claiming the beat maker used his influence to keep her in line throughout their professional relationship.
