Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Black Republicans Over Trump Racism

Ben Carson, Candace Owens, you deplorable hotep negroes, colored-contacted faux pastor, Diamond & Silk where y’all at???

Donald Trump’s racist a$$ tweets appear to have fallen on the deaf ears, mute mouths, and cowardly hearts of the Republican party. This morning on The View, the entire panel, including habitual crybaby Meghan McCain, spent 9 minutes laying into 53% of white women’s president.

In an effort to put a finer point on the topic, Whoopi Goldberg took a moment to SPECIFICALLY call out Black folks who have chosen to do the devil’s work as Republicans.

Press play to hear what she had to say.

Remember back in the day when reality tv stars weren’t taken seriously in Hollywood? Casting agents and directors were not checking for folks who were known just for being known. But my oh my, how the tables have turned. These days, the big wigs in Hollywood are actively seeking out folks from social media and reality television, whether they have talent or not.

Fortunately, there are a select few who’ve parlayed their 15 minutes of reality fame into a lucrative, sustainable career. Dorion Renaud is one of those stars whose talent was much too big to be placed in one box. He acts, he sings, he models. The true definition of an artist.

With three shows on Yahoo and his role on ‘In The Cut’, it’s safe to say that Dorion is booked and busy these days.

[embedded content]

With a star studded cast like this, Dorion’s career as an actor can only go up from here. He plays hairdresser Percy on the Bounce TV show, alongside acting greats like Kelita Smith, Dorien Wilson, Jackèe Harry and more.

[embedded content]

I spoke with the actor about everything from his new skin care line Buttah to his transition from reality tv to acting.

On Transitioning Into Acting After College Hill

“It was actually kind of hard, because when I did College Hill, that was a time when reality tv wasn’t as huge as it is now. I had to kind of change my name after, because people didn’t take me serious even though I had serious training. It was tough. I had to put the work in. Even with ‘In The Cut’, it wasn’t easy. But I’m glad I did it and got a little bit of a name for myself. And it’s funny because the director had no idea that I’ve ever done a reality show. So I was happy that I was able to impress him without him knowing that I was on a reality show. “

On Advice From Lauren London

“Before I do anything involving acting, I run it by Lauren. Cause she’s been doing it so long. We go over my lines. She encourages me. Facetimes me when I’m on set. Anytime I need any advice regarding business, she’s the first person I go to. I’m so thankful to have her in my life. I hope we get to work together one of these days. I would want both of us to play like some gangster sh**. Something edgy and cool, but vulnerable.”

On Getting Into The Beauty Business

“People have a hard time believing that I had troubled skin growing up. When I started modeling and had to wear makeup all day, and at the end of the day, i would look at my skin. I’d see so much hyperpigmentation. Then i realized that there was a space open, for African Americans and skin care. I would go in Nordstroms and all these high end retailers and I couldn’t find anything that was good for my skin. And I felt that [African Americans] deserve to be the face of beauty, and skin care as well. So Buttah really came from the heart. I’m glad that it’s doing well.”

On Life Lessons

“Trust your gut. Do not do anything for your peers. Do it for the people that look up to you and care. You have to move with purpose. You have to listen to your intuition. Move with purpose, move with vision and stay true to what you love.”

Check out Dorion’s skin care line Buttah at Buttahskin.com, and catch him on ‘In The Cut’ when season 5 premieres Monday on Bounce TV.

Overview of New York city

Source: Visions Of Our Land / Getty

They call New York the greatest city in the world for a reason. The city itself is always up and on, and the people are all looking for their next come up.

NYC is the city of hustlers. There’s a singer, dancer, designer, actor or artist at every corner and on every train car. And don’t think for a second that the hustle stops when something out of the ordinary comes along and disturbs the peace.

On Saturday, there was a blackout in Manhattan that affected more than 72,000 New Yorkers along 30 blocks from Times Square to the Upper West Side. Mayor Bill de Blasio said police confirmed there was no foul play involved and that the outage was caused by a “mechanical issue.” Fun fact, the outage came 42 years to the day after The Great Blackout of 1977.

Fortunately there were no reports of people getting hurt or losing their ish. Judging by footage of the incidents, it looks like the streets were still pretty lit without lights — no pun intended. And the outage certainly didn’t stop these New Yorkers from coming together and spreading their love and talent all over the city.

Ladies and gents, this is an example of what America could be.

Lashana Lynch To Play 007

This. Is. Awesome.

Lashana Lynch who played Maria Rambeau in “Captain Marvel” will take on the famous 007 moniker in the forthcoming James Bond film. To be clear, the history-making moment means she’s the first BLACK PERSON and the first FEMALE to take on the role.

The British actress, 31, will play 007 in what The Daily Mail is describing as a “popcorn dropping moment” between her and the current Bond Daniel Craig.

Bond is apparently retired and BEFUDDLED that this “brilliant young black woman” won’t fall for his charm.

“Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed,” a source told the Mail.

“It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,” the source told the Mail.

The film is currently in production in Italy and the UK. Lynch has already been spotted filming on set and she shared a behind the scenes clip.

Fans have been practically BEGGING for Idris Elba to become the first black James Bond, not just 007.

What do YOU think about an amazing black woman like Lashana taking on the iconic 007 role???

WNBA Legend Now Coaching For Big3’s Triplets Team

She’s an Olympic champion, a three-time WNBA MVP and is considered one of the greatest ballers to ever hit the court.

And iconic athlete Lisa Leslie is back in the game, but this time she’s making moves from the sidelines. The six foot five Compton, CA native is now coaching the Big3 basketball league’s Triplets and will lead her team this weekend as they face off against the Tri-State.

“Being part of the Big3 has been more than I’ve ever dreamed of,” Leslie told us. “I saw it and I watched it as a fan, and to be part of the Big3 family – I kind of get choked up because I never thought that I would really coach.”

Leslie was honored Friday at Toyota’s Women of Big3 Power Luncheon at the MoCada Museum in Brooklyn, where she spoke about her new role and how basketball impacted her life. Also honored was Big3 chairwoman Amy Trask and Big3 head coach Nancy Lieberman.

Leslie – who played 12 seasons with the WNBA and was the first female baller to dunk on live TV – said she’s relishing her new role as a coach, writing scouting reports, going over games to find weak spots and mentoring the players.

And when she was asked about what it was like to coach a team of male athletes, Leslie said that it’s not a big deal.

“It’s just been so much fun,” she said. “It’s been thrilling – I always say it’s like playing chess and playing dominoes and playing spades all at the same time. If you’ve ever played any of those, you kind of understand the strategy of it, the energy of it, the fight of it – the passion.”

Is Tahiry Jose Shooting Her Shot At Ex Joe Budden?

Joe Budden has been through his fair share of relationship woes throughout his time in the entertainment industry–but it finally seemed like he found his match after settling down with fellow Love & Hip Hop star Cyn Santana.

After going half on a baby and proposing at a live episode of his podcast back in December, the two ended up breaking things off only a few months later for reasons that haven’t yet been explained. In the months since the mysterious break-up, Budden has seemed mostly in good spirits while sprinkling in some jokes about his sad boy summer. All the while, it looks like he’s got another prospect waiting for him in the wing.

On Saturday, Budden posted a series of pictures on his Instagram stories: the first being G Herbo and Ari booed up in the pool with the caption, “summer in my mind,” followed by a lonely-looking flick of Joe by himself that reads, “summer in real life.”

The Shade Room, doing what The Shade Room does, went on to post the screenshots from his story onto their page–and that’s when the comment section got interesting.

Tahiry Jose, another fellow Love & Hip Hop star and former flame of the retired New Jersey rapper, commented on the screenshots saying, “Joe know what time it is! Lmao.”

*Cue fans going wild in the comment section*

What time Tahiry is actually referring to is still unclear, but either way, we see her checking up on her old, newly single boo thang.

Unfortunately for Ms. Jose, though, it looks like Joe isn’t picking up whatever she’s putting down. When one fan tweeted the podcast host urging him, “please don’t go backwards” to his former relationship, he replied, “forward motion.”

And there you have it. Even though many Love & Hip Hop fans constantly claim that Tahiry will always be the one for Joe, the man himself has a different story.

Sandra Bland

Source: KENA BETANCUR / Getty

It feels like just yesterday that Sandra Bland’s  mysterious death was the number one news story all over the world. On July 13, 2015, the then 28-year old was found hanged in a jail cell in Waller County, Texas three days after being arrested during a traffic stop. Her death was ruled a suicide, but some things didn’t add up.

According to reports, “Texas authorities and the FBI conducted an investigation into Bland’s death and determined the Waller County jail did not follow required policies, including time checks on inmates and ensuring that employees had completed required mental health training.” State Trooper Brian Encinia who pulled Bland over and was seen on the dashcam footage being aggressive her was placed on administrative leave for failing to follow proper traffic stop procedures.

[embedded content]

In 2016, he was indicted for perjury for making false statements about the circumstances surrounding Bland’s arrest and then fired by the Texas Department of Public Safety. However, in 2017 the perjury charge against Encinia was dropped in return for his agreement to permanently end his law enforcement career. But that still doesn’t give the Bland family their beloved Sandra back.

[embedded content]

Sandra was a very woke, young individual. In January 2015, just months before her death, she started posting videos on Facebook about various Black issues, including police brutality and their mistreatment of Black people. Sources say that Bland had at least ten previous encounters with police in Illinois and Texas around time of her death, and owed $7,579 in fines. Ironically, before her death, she posted, “In the news that we’ve seen as of late, you could stand there, surrender to the cops, and still be killed.”

Sandra Bland’s death set off a wave of protests and petitions, and the climate of America at the time didn’t help. Tensions against Black folks and the police were at an all time high as we were had just finished protesting and marching for Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown. Those murders of unarmed Black men at the hands of law enforcement also inspired Sandra to do her blunt, informative, Facebook videos entitled #SandraSpeaks.

In one video, she stated,

“If we can get enough White people to show that All Lives Matter, maybe they can stop killing our Black brothers. Black people are out here doing all that they can, and we can’t help but get pissed off when we see situations where it’s clear that a Black life didn’t matter.”

In honor of a young queen gone too soon, hit the flip for more inspiring videos by Sandra Bland.

Summer Of OWN Essence Fest Cocktail Party

Bossip Be Trippin: Essence Fest 25

Hey beautiful people, it’s your wanderlusty buddy-pal Alejandro with another White Diamond-splashed Essence Fest adventure to recap. And yes, there are taupe kitten heels, bedazzled bodysuits, snazzy toe rings, stretchy floral fabrics, young aunties in polka dot hot pants and big Bluetooth energy (courtesy of Pop-Pop Frankie Beverly) sprinkled into this journey.

Sounds amazing, I know, so let’s get into it. But first–I have to thank Ford for loaning me a 2019 Ford F-150 Limited (basically an Autobot) for the trip. I’ll call him Optimus Jr. and he’s simply incredible with the best fuel mileage of any new-age truck.

I drove from Atlanta to NOLA (470 miles) without stopping for gas and STILL had 100 miles left to E. It’s absolutely life-changing (if you have an older vehicle like myself) with a planet-shaking sound system, dependable navigation interface, spacious interior (sooo much backseat space for luggage unlike most pickup trucks), MOONROOF, self-parallel parking (yes, you read that right) and buttery smooth leather seats.

This isn’t a commercial (I promise) but I told them I would let yall know how impressive the F-150 is. My only (small) complaint is the $69 is takes to fill up. STRESSFUL. But yea, I’m a fan and recommend you take one for a spin someday.

Now, back to Essence Fest that attracted 1.7 billion people (I counted) to the (not) Big (enough) Easy this year for some good ‘ole fashioned day drinking shenanigans in wig-melting, eyebrow-sizzling heat.

At one point, it was 104° outside but that didn’t stop anyone from attending an impressive array of events and brunches and lunches and dinners and pop-ups and soirées and kickbacks and meet & greets this year. There were SO MANY EVENTS. Almost too many. And these were my faves:

Spotify’s star-studded House of Are & Be was a VIBE with well-moisturized somebodies and the most IG-friendly photo booth experience at the festival. Look at our Digital Comms Director Lexi killin’ it.

Yep, EVERYBODY was there.

Ava Duvernay, Gayle King & more stopped by the exclusive Summer Of OWN Essence Cocktail Party at Legacy Kitchen for great vibes, impossible amounts of food (IT WAS LITERALLY A FEAST–THANKS OPRAH!) and all the Dove products you could stuff into your luggage. It was quite the event.

Universal Pictures threw a swanky First Look soirée where they showed the first 12 minutes of soon-to-be movie of moment “Queen & Slim.” It looks incredible. No, seriously.

Brandy stunned at AT&T’s extravagant Dream In Black brunch (that also celebrated Ava Duvernay and Zendaya). She looked and sounded AMAZING.

Starz always has great Essence Fest events and this year’s Lounge was another win.

The magnificent Motown Manor had tarot card readings, henna painting, celebrity MUAs for guests, braid adorning, open bar and a live performance/intimate chat with BJ the Chicago Kid. Very dope.

Shea butter baby Ari Lennox gave us a classic moment at Airbnb’s elegant A Woman’s Path To Power event. THEY HAD DELICIOUS MINI-SHRIMP PO’BOYS.

HBO’s intimate Black Ladies in Comedy brunch celebrated Insecure’s Natasha Rothwell (Supervising Producer & Actress), A Black Lady Sketch Show‘s Dime Davis (Director) and Lauren Ashley Smith (Head Writer) who chatted about Blackness in very white Hollywood spaces. Great convo and even better food.

Ford paints the future proud at Essence Fest

Source: Nigel Degaff

Our good friends at Ford painted the future proud with a culturally delicious Ride & Drive experience combining art, food and fellowship.

Disney’s preview brunch for “The Lion King” and several other future box office smashes from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” to “Frozen 2” was, well, magical.

Forever First Lady Michelle Obama and Final Boss auntie MJB set the tone for Pop-Pop Frankie to unleash big bluetooth energy during a dazzling performance that closed out Essence Fest with the biggest of bangs.

Overall, I really enjoyed Essence Fest 25 and LOVE that it lived up to the hype. Special thanks to Team Epiphany for the exclusive invites, Legacy Kitchen‘s wonderful staff who blessed us with fresh (and delicious) beignets, Ford, HBO, AT&T, BET, OWN, Disney, McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Universal and Motown.

Thanks for reading and follow my unsupervised shenanigans on IG (@alejandro_nigelsias). See ya next time!

Keke Palmer On Working With Cardi B & Her Thoughts On Nene Leakes

Keke Palmer stopped by Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live recently to chop it up with Andy Cohen about anything and everything.

While she was in the hot seat, Keke talked about working with Cardi B and Jennifer Lopez on the upcoming movie “Hustlers” and says that Cardi B taught her some dance moves. She also shares her thoughts on the R. Kelly docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly,” saying what her experience was when he mentored her at the start of her music career.

Dominican Republic

Source: Splash News / Splash News

The Dominican Republican hasn’t been having the best summer as far as public perception.

Headline after headline has revealed some tourists are coming up dead after visiting the island for vacation and falling sick. While investigations are underway, it’s important to remember that although the news is alarming, there are a plethora of reasons tourists could be falling ill. Some might have something to do with the resorts people are staying, while other reasons could involve food and alcohol contamination. Either way, it’s not totally fair to blame an entire country and its people, especially when they too could be susceptible to harm. Some celebrities are bringing attention to this, one being Vin Diesel.

According to Page Six, the 51-year-old actor went on Instagram from London to defend the DR.

“Never let anyone tell you that people in the Dominican Republic aren’t magical wonderful people,” the actor said on Monday. “I love that country and I will always love that country.”

Ms. Cardi B also went on Instagram to defend the DR, where a lot of her family hails from. She dismissed all the talk that the country was unsafe. She explained to fans in Spanish that she recently visited the island and she was “fine.”

“What I do know is that the Dominican Republic is the most beautiful country, and everyone has fun there,” the rapper explained. “Even poor people have fun. So it hurts me a lot when people say ‘that country is bad. That country is this and that.’”

Tourism to the Caribbean spot has recently dropped since reports of at least 12 Americans dying in the past few months. A study revealed trips booked to the island have dipped by 74.3% for the month of July and August compared to the same period in 2018.

Again, no consistent reason has been confirmed for the tourist woes, so it seems we’ll have to let time and further investigation take its course. Until then, you can check out some helpful safety procedures here.
