UPDATED — 5:28 AM 08/13/2024

Despite USA Gymnastics having evidence to support Jordan Chiles keeping her bronze medal, ABC reports that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will not hear the appeal.

“USA Gymnastics was notified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented,” the governing body for gymnastics in the U.S. said in a statement. “We are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan.”

This is deeply disappointing.

Below this line, the original story begins.

___________________________

Team USA isn’t giving up without a fight to protect Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal that was stripped following her stellar performance at the Aug.5 gymnastics finale during the Paris Olympics and we love to see it.

According to PEOPLE, the USA Women’s Gymnastics Team reportedly submitted video evidence showing Chiles’ head coach, Cecile Landi, submitting an inquiry on behalf of the 23-year-old to have her score changed 47 seconds after her score was announced. This technically should fulfill the one-minute deadline specified by game regulations.

In a statement posted Aug. 11 to X, the USA Gymnastics governing body said that they would be submitting the video along with a letter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reconsider reinstating Chiles’ medal.

“The time-stamped, video evidence submitted by USA Gymnastics Sunday evening shows Landi first stated her request to file an inquiry at the inquiry table 47 seconds after the score is posted, followed by a second statement 55 seconds after the score was originally posted,” USA Gymnastics penned.

“The video footage provided was not available to USA Gymnastics prior to the tribunal’s decision and thus USAG did not have the opportunity to previously submit it.”

What Happened To Jordan Chiles’ Bronze Medal?

On Aug. 5, Chiles, a native of Oregon, scored 13.666 in the highly competitive event, finishing just behind Romania’s Ana Barbosu, who initially believed she had secured the bronze with a score of 13.700. However, Team U.S.A. successfully challenged the difficulty score, particularly a mid-air rotation in Chiles’ routine, which bumped up the star gymnast’s score to 13.766, awarding her the bronze medal instead.

Sadly, CAS ruled that the challenge to Chiles’ score was filed “after the conclusion of the one-minute deadline.” Barbosu, 18, will hold on to the bronze medal until the situation is rectified.

Team Romania’s Ana Barbosu Speaks Out, Megan Thee Stallion Sends Support

On Sunday, Barbosu took to her Instagram Stories to show love to Chiles after the CAS announced its unfair decision.

“Sabrina [Maneca-Voinea], Jordan, my thoughts are with you. I know what you are feeling, because I’ve been through the same. But I know you’ll come back stronger,” Barbosu penned according to PEOPLE, while referencing Chiles and her fellow Team Romania member, who ended up being placed fifth and fourth places, respectively, according to PEOPLE.

“I hope from deep of my heart that at the next Olympics, all three of us will share [the] same podium,” Barbosu continued. “This is my true dream!”

The Romanian gymnast added,

“This situation would not have existed if the persons in charge had respected the regulation. We, athletes are not to be blamed, and the hate directed to us is painful. I wanted to end this edition of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the spirit of Olympism, the true value of the world.”

Jordan Chiles also got some support from Megan Thee Stallion who she previously bonded with after a concert.

On Monday, the rapper posted a pic of the gymnast with a fingers crossed emoji and a heart emoji to her InstaStory.

Chiles also spoke briefly about the controversy, telling fans on her Instagram Story that she was going to take a break from social media to protect her “mental health” as the court makes a decision on the case.

This is some bull! We stand with Jordan Chiles and we’ll be sitting right here (with our arms folded) until this situation is rectified.

Ajike Owens Susan Lorincz

Source: Marion County Sheriff’s Office / Ben Crump

Ajike “AJ” Owens was a mother of 4 children who should still be alive to raise them, nurture them, and watch them bloom into successful and productive members of society. Sadly, Owens won’t get that opportunity because a trigger-happy racist named Susan Lorincz stole her life from her on the afternoon of June 2, 2023. BOSSIP has reported extensively about the case and we highly suggest you read those articles to understand better what happened between the two ladies in their Ocala, Florida neighborhood.

According to Fox35 Orlando, Lorincz appeared in court on Friday while her defense and the prosecutors argued about the nuances of the trial including whether or not the racist slurs that Lorincz hurled at Owens’ children will be admissible. Lorincz readily admitted to detectives that she had previously called Owens’ children “n****ers” and such was noted in her arrest affidavit.

“Detective Pinder and I discussed with Lorincz the allegations of making racial slurs towards children in the neighborhood and Lorincz admitted to having used the n-word toward children out of anger in the past and also to calling children other derogatory terms.”

However, WESH noted that prosecutors have agreed not to use the evidence of racist slurs in the trial stating,

“The State concedes, pursuant to long standing case law, that racial slurs are generally inadmissible unless the use of the racial slur was relevant to show the defendant’s state of mind as an element of the crime charged.”

This decision comes as a disappointment to both Owens’ grieving family and their legal counsel Anthony Thomas.

“That’s how AJ gets across the street, knocking on the door because Susan was calling them racial slurs,” Thomas said. “The family had always thought that there had been a racial component to the interactions between Susan and AJ, specifically related to the children.”

“Long-standing case law” be damned. The judge in the case previously stated that while past incidents may not be relevant to the actual shooting, the events that led to AJ Owens approaching Lorincz’s door may be very pertinent.

“The buildup to this day is relevant,” he said, adding later on that “her mindset at the time of the shooting is gonna be relevant.

BOSSIP will be covering this trial and all its legal machinations.

Javaughn Young-White is explaining how his concerns for his daughter got so misinterpreted in his petition for custody.

After making headlines with his initial filing for custody of his 5-year-old daughter Adeya, whom he shares with Kehlani, Javaughn is further clarifying his concerns to set the record straight. This comes after he issued a statement on his Instagram page slamming TMZ for their initial reports, which Young-White criticized for being “sensationalized.”

On August 9, the guitarist posted a follow-up statement to his Instagram, which has since been made private. Within the lengthy post, PEOPLE reports that Young-White claims that the initial custody filing was “submitted without my approval by my former representation.”

“They were filed with choice language I didn’t okay. I regret they were included,” he wrote.

He also admits to being misinformed about happenings within the church regarding Kehlani’s previous religion, Regla de Ocha.

“Before filing, the information regarding Priest Neto and his church was circulated to me by parties of priority,” Javaughn continued. “I am now aware that these parties were attempting to use allegations and vocabulary to escalate their own disputes within the church. As of today, these parties no longer align with their allegations. Understandably, I was not aware of this at the time.”

“When I was presented with the allegations against Neto and his church, my daughter was no longer affiliated,” he wrote. “However, I was still deeply distressed about the direct care of my child. From my perspective, I was being told the consequences of alarming decision-making that could have ended quite differently. I advocated for my child’s agency as I would about any sudden lifestyle shift or new parental custodians. I could not stop anything due to the intentional, ongoing state of my parental custody and documentation. I was disregarded.”

Young-White went on to claim that his previous counsel moved forward with the filing despite the fact that it was “never approved for submission.”

“To be clear: the explicit wording of this account did not have my approval either,” Young-White claimed. “There are other concerns that encourage me to prioritize issues of custody and documentation. As a father, I could never have anticipated that such serious allegations would be so careless. I still believe my alarm was proportionate to the information I received from the trusted parties. However, I deeply regret and apologize for any role I played in perpetuating these claims. I hope Priest Neto, his family, and affected members of the church receive just restoration.”

He concluded: “I am looking forward to continuing the advocacy of my child’s wellbeing.”

Unfortunately for Kehlani, though her ex has done a lot to retract his previous claims, the singer is still facing some serious allegations from other people in their life.

A former friend of the artist, Kayla Cotten, took to social media to share her experience with Kehlani, which she says happened while she was on her “deathbed.” She accuses the singer of not only harassing her but “gang stalking” her, having their friends reach out and keep tabs on Kayla when they weren’t in contact.

Another of Kehlani’s former friends, Nina, helped spread the word about Kayla’s allegations, posting videos to Instagram about her experiences with the singer.

Kehlani ended up responding to Kayla’s allegations with a statement, saying, “While I already have my head down, i am being kicked by an old friend.”

She goes on to say that she met Kayla during a virtual meet and greet, saying it was Cotten’s “dying wish” to meet her. The two then “stayed in contact nearly every day,” during which Kehlani says she came to multiple shows and “made sure my team took care of her every single time.”

Eventually, as Kehlani focused on finishing her album, she wasn’t as responsive to Kayla, who she says was moved out of hospice care, which allegedly led to Cotten being vindictive and spreading information to Kehlani’s most recent ex.

In response to the “gang stalking” allegations, the singer insists, “My friends addressing the harm she caused, privately, with her, is not harassment or ‘gang stalking.’”

In addition to several lawsuits, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is facing some serious allegations of substance abuse. The allegations come amid Ye’s lawyer requesting to withdraw his representation of the rapper.

According to In Touch, the “Heartless” rapper’s attorney, Brian Brumfield, has been approved by a Los Angeles judge to no longer represent Ye. The granted motion drops Brumfield from Ye’s $2 million lawsuit he’s facing from the Gap. Brumfield was also recused from the lawsuits filed against Ye, including a discrimination case in which a former employee claimed he was fired for not agreeing to cut off his dreadlocks. The 47-year-old is also facing an assault case, which Brumfield is still waiting for approval to be let go.

The decision for Brumfield to no longer represent the rapper was not entirely made by him. The attorney claims that West terminated him in late June 2024, reports In Touch. Brumfield also stated in court documents that Ye refuses to speak to him and has not paid him. It is unclear why the Yeezy designer no longer desires Brumfield’s expertise. However, this information has surfaced at the same time Ye is being accused of substance abuse.

Kanye West Accused Of Having A Nitrous Oxide Addiction

In Touch also reported that Ye’s former chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, has accused the rapper of being addicted to nitrous oxide. In an affidavit submitted to Los Angeles courts, Yiannopoulos alleged that Ye’s dentist, Thomas Connelly, provided the father of four with the substance in exchange for $50,000 a month.

Yiannopoulos alleged that Ye’s behavior drastically changed when he “began using the substance,” and he constantly talked about it. The 39-year-old also claimed that Ye became harder to work with and would experience mood swings.

Connelly has denied all allegations that Yiannopoulos stated in the affidavit and the dentist released a statement via a spokesperson to TMZ.

“Dr. Thomas P. Connelly categorically denies all the false allegations made by Milo Yiannopoulos in his affidavit,” the rep stated. “Mr. Yiannopoulos, who has admitted in the same affidavit to being motivated by personal grievances, has presented a narrative that is not only factually incorrect but also intentionally misleading. Dr. Connelly has never engaged in any reckless, unethical, or illegal conduct, nor has he ever endangered the health and safety of any of his patients.”

Connelly also took hits at Yiannopoulos stating that his word could not be trusted.

“Mr. Yiannopoulos, a self-admitted provocateur with a history of attention-seeking behavior, has fabricated a narrative that is both factually incorrect and maliciously intended to damage Dr. Connelly’s professional reputation. His allegations are completely unfounded and devoid of any credible evidence. As a licensed dental professional, Dr. Connelly adheres strictly to all ethical and legal standards, and any allegations to the contrary are baseless. Dr. Connelly remains committed to providing the highest standard of care to all his patients and will continue to do so despite these unfounded attacks on his character and professional conduct,” the statement ended.

Could Ye Also Have A Drinking Problem?

On top of nitrous oxide abuse, Ye is also facing allegations of alcoholism. This accusation comes after the rapper admitted to being drunk when he made offensive tweets about the Jewish community in 2022.

As BOSSIP reported, Ye was dropped from several brand deals after he tweeted that he wanted to go “deaf con 3 on Jewish people.”

“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” West tweeted and deleted. “The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

This post came after Kanye appeared in a Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson, where he also echoed antisemitic conspiracy theories. In that interview, Ye accused Jared Kushner–who is Jewish–of brokering Israeli treaties for monetary gain.

According to the Independent, Candace Owens released an interview from 2022 in which she sat down with Ye and he was candid about his thought process at the time he made the tweets.

“I was drinking when I put up the DEFCON tweet,” he stated. “You wanna know what alcohol I had inside me? Hennessy. It turns us gray. The demons [come out].”

Nevertheless, Ye doubled down on his comments and stated that he doesn’t regret anything because it is “his truth.” It is unclear whether the rapper was under the influence during his other antisemitic rants. Ye did eventually apologize in a statement that was written in Hebrew.

Toni Braxton recently opened up about a serious health scare that could’ve claimed her life, sharing that she believes her late sister, Traci Braxton, was watching over her during the

difficult moment.

The emotional revelation came during the series premiere of The Braxtons, which aired on August 9 on We TV.

As the Braxton family gathered for dinner, Toni hesitated before revealing her recent health struggles to her sisters, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar, as well as their mother, Dr. Evelyn Braxton. In a confessional, Toni admitted to viewers that she was reluctant to share her news, given the family’s recent trauma from losing Traci to esophageal cancer just two years ago.

“I know I have to tell the girls about a health scare, which makes me feel some kind of way,” she explained. “The last health scare we heard was Traci. On the brink of Traci stuff, I don’t want to get them riled up, ‘Oh, is Toni okay?’ So I don’t even want to tell them. Maybe I shouldn’t. I don’t know.”

Despite her concerns, Toni bravely told her family about what could’ve been a fatal experience with a “widowmaker” heart attack—a particularly deadly type of heart attack caused by a significant blockage in one of the heart’s major arteries.

According to WebMD, the widowmaker is often sudden and can be fatal if not treated immediately. Fortunately, Toni’s doctors caught the problem just in time, saving her life.

“If I had a heart attack, I wouldn’t have survived, I wouldn’t be here right now,” she shared, her voice trembling with emotion.

As she wept in the arms of her mother and sisters, Toni revealed a profound belief that Traci was her guardian angel during the health scare.

“They told me your sister was watching over you because they were right, you should be dead today. You should not be alive,” she tearfully recounted.

This frightening experience is not Toni’s first encounter with serious health issues. In 2007, she was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation and damage to various parts of the body, including the heart. Despite this, Toni has continued to push forward in her career, but her recent heart problems have forced her to confront the reality of her condition.

Toni disclosed that she had to undergo a procedure to place a stent in her heart, a measure to prevent further complications. However, doctors have warned her that she may eventually need bypass surgery.

This news of course has taken a heavy toll on Toni’s mental health, leading to constant anxiety about the possibility of a heart attack.

“It’s crazy anxiety. I just think about it all the time… It’s really messed up that I’m scared every day. If I have a heart attack, I won’t survive. I can’t handle even that feeling,” Toni confessed.

The premiere episode of The Braxtons offered a candid and emotional glimpse into Toni Braxton’s ongoing health struggles, as well as the healing challenges faced by her entire family. The show highlighted not only Toni’s vulnerability but also the Braxtons’ collective journey through grief, their day-to-day challenges, and the complexities of life after loss.

Fans can continue to follow Toni’s journey on The Braxtons airing Fridays at 9:30 p.m. ET on We TV.

Despite Dame Dash’s ownership of Roc-A-Fella hitting a government auction soon, Jay-Z is making sure that he’ll own his Reasonable Doubt album in 2031.

Following the fallout of producer Josh Webber winning a court settlement against Dame Dash, his 1/3 ownership of Roc-A-Fella records will soon hit the auction block.

The United States Marshal Services will hold the auction on August 29 inside a Manhattan hotel with a minimum bid of $1.2 million and a $240,000 deposit. As you can imagine, some potential buyers are eager to own a piece of Hip-Hop history but they’ll face a speed bump thanks to Jay-Z.

According to TMZ, Jay-Z is issuing a “buyer beware” notice to let any hopeful bidders know his album Reasonable Doubt will soon return to him. The album is reportedly the only real asset of Roc-A-Fella Records and is likely the prized possession that comes with Dame’s 33.3%.

TMZ reports that in recent weeks Jay-Z’s lawyers filed a legal notice to make it official the album’s ownership will revert to him in 2031.

This could have a big implication on how high the auction will go because the potential buyer will only receive revenue for six years.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see how the auction plays out.

Amid the many allegations that Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing, Caresha, aka Yung Miami, has remained relatively quiet about their relationship. Now, she is speaking out about her experience on an episode of her popular podcast, Caresha Please. However, the rapper’s response left fans and social media users with more questions than answers.

After a hiatus, Yung Miami’s Caresha Please podcast is back! The podcast got sidelined after just one season. Many speculated the delay was due to the show being owned by Revolt TV, a brainchild of Diddy, and Caresha’s relationship with him. The rapstress and disgraced media mogul had a rumored relationship since 2021, with the two confirming their dating status on the famed podcast in June 2022. Nevertheless, the show returned, and Yung Miami was the first guest.

With the help of her longtime friend Saucy Santana the mother of two sat down to discuss several topics, including the end of The City Girls, her relationship with JT, and Diddy’s downfall. As BOSSIP reported, Diddy is facing many legal issues after being sued by several people for sexual assault, abuse, and trafficking. Naturally, fans looked to Yung Miami as the two were openly dating at the time of the first lawsuit, filed by Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura.

In the interview, the City Girls rapper confirmed that she and Diddy are no longer seeing each other. She also stated she was never abused in the relationship and that they both benefitted from being together. However, some fans are not buying it.

Other social media users expressed similar sentiments, stating that the femcee went “too easy” on the Bad Boy founder.

Saucy Santana Defends The Caresha Please Interview

It is no secret that Santana and Yung Miami are best friends. The two often make public appearances together and became known for their frequent Instagram Live sessions. However, some viewers were concerned that a friend of Caresha’s was conducting the interview. Some social media users felt that two could have rehearsed their questions and responses. Additionally, some feel Santana could have asked more profound questions.

After the interview began to circulate on social media, the “Material Girl” rapper defended Caresha. Santana recently posted a video to TikTok to thank fans for watching and answer questions. He addressed the decision for him to interview Caresha and stated that the former City Girls rapper has been having a difficult time since Diddy allegations surfaced. During this time, Santana was by her side, and now feels he was the perfect person to make her feel comfortable and vulnerable.

“It’s been a real tough time for Caresha behind the scenes, and I was there,” he stated. “It would be times where I would get up and go to Miami just to be with her and Caresha is a very private person. So I don’t know who would have been, who else would have been able to really make her open up and be vulnerable. And it was a tough interview, but we got through it.”

Santana then went on to slam those criticizing Caresha over her “truth.”

“If she was trying to save face, she would have done that a long time ago. Instead, she endured all the cruel bulls**t that y’all did to her, and she spoke at her own pace and at her own time. You can’t get mad at someone about their truth,” Santana said.

Santana was also sure to state that he nor Caresha denied anyone else’s experience with Diddy.

“Whatever happened to someone else’s past, we don’t neglect that. We don’t say that it didn’t happen, and we don’t condone it. But, as far as Caresha, she spoke the truth as to what she experienced, and that’s the only thing that she could tell y’all.”

Since the Caresha Please interview aired, Caresha has not made further statements.

Megan Thee Stallion is certainly having a comeback year in 2024! After the very public trial of Tory Lanez, who was convicted of shooting MTS in the foot, the rapper is moving forward with her career. After the release of her third studio album, “MEGAN,” Meg released the video for her international hit song “Mamushi.”

Shortly after Megan’s “Hot Girl Summer” tour came to a close, the rapstress announced that the music video for her viral hit “Mamushi” was coming soon. She then posted snippets and teasers throughout a couple of weeks. On August 9th, the music video was released, though it was uploaded late due to technical difficulties.

“We had some lil technical difficulties lol but MAMUSHI VIDEO OUT NOW ON MY YOUTUBE!!! Run it up hotties 😛🐍” she posted to Instagram.

The music video was filmed in Toyko and directed by Kevin “Onda” Leyva. Yuki Chiba, her “Mamushi” collaborator, and actor Shô Kasamatsu starred alongside MTS in the video. While displaying beautiful scenery and tight choreography, the music video also tells a mesmerizing and menacing story. The video also continues Meg’s snake arc, which has been evident in this era of her career.

The music video begins in a Japanese spa, where Kasamatsu is seen entering. He is then taken to a room where he is introduced to Megan and several other women. The rapper then takes Kasamatsu to another part of the spa, but before they can arrive, MTS turns into a Japanese Viper and swallows him whole.

The video continues to show the femcee in similar situations, turning into the poisonous Japanese Viper and taking the lives of the spa attendees. In one particularly sexy scene, she slithers through water and sneaks up on men, then kills them. It is then revealed that Chiba was Meg’s helper all along as he takes the dead and turns them into blue soldiers. The soldiers are then depicted as the rapper’s army. According to People, this scene was inspired by Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film “Dreams.”

The video included new choreography and the viral TikTok dance created shortly after the album was released, in addition to the storyline.

Social Media Reacts to MTS’s New Video

The video has not been out long, but fans are loving Megan Thee Stallion’s new upgrade in visual presentation. One user pointed out the cinematography and storyline.

“Megan just continues to elevate the cinematic appeal of her music videos,” the user stated.

Another X, formerly known as Twitter, user mentioned the rapper’s other recent music videos and stated that this video is the perfect addition.

“Megan four for four with music videos this era visually and conceptually,” the user wrote.

The “Mamushi” video has already broken records as it is now considered the biggest debut for a music video by a US female rapper in 2024. The video has over 3.5 million views at the time of this writing, surpassing her own record for the “HISS” music video.

The highly anticipated buddy comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA has just added a stellar lineup to its already exciting cast.

Dewayne Perkins x Amin Joseph x Gabrielle Dennis x DomiNque Perry

Source: Kayla Oaddams/Randy Shropshire/Dimitrios Kambouris/ / Getty

Variety recently reported that Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis, and DomiNQue Perry are the latest additions to this TriStar Pictures film, further heightening fan expectations.

Written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont, this project is already generating buzz even though details about the plot and main characters are still being kept tightly under wraps.

Get To Know The New Additions To The Star-Studded Cast

The new cast members bring a wealth of talent and diversity to the project, each with an impressive track record in television and film.

Dewayne Perkins is an Emmy-nominated writer, producer, actor, and comedian whose credits include the Apple series “The Studio,” Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” and Peacock’s “Saved by the Bell.” Perkins’ sharp wit and comedic timing make him a natural fit for a buddy comedy, and his involvement is sure to add a unique flair to the film.

Amin Joseph is best known for his role as Jerome “Unc” Saint in FX’s critically acclaimed series “Snowfall.” Joseph showcased his versatility as an actor in his work across genres, from action-packed roles in films like “The Expendables” and “Baywatch” to more dramatic performances in “Justified: City Primeval” and “Send Help.” His addition to the cast suggests that this film will balance comedy with depth and substance.

Gabrielle Dennis has captivated audiences with her performances in HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and Apple TV+’s “The Big Door Prize.” She has also appeared in popular series like “The Bobby Brown Story,” “The Game,” and Netflix’s “The Upshaws.” Dennis became consistently known for her comedic chops and her ability to bring warmth and relatability to her characters.

DomiNQue Perry’s best-known role may be as Tasha on HBO’s “Insecure,” where she became a fan favorite. Currently appearing in “Diarra From Detroit,” Perry continues to impress with her dynamic acting skills and strong on-screen presence.

The Issa Rae-Produced Buddy Comedy Is One Of The Hottest Upcoming Films In Hollywood

As BOSSIP previously reported, the creative forces behind this film are just as remarkable as the on-screen talent.

The film is produced by Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi from HOORAE, alongside Deniese Davis from ColorCreative and MACRO Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks. Singleton, who penned the script, is also co-producing, while Keke Palmer and Sharon Palmer serve as executive producers through Palmer’s Big Boss production company.

The involvement of these industry powerhouses is a clear sign that this project will do well at the box office and attract huge numbers of supporters.

This upcoming buddy comedy arrives at a crucial moment for Black-led films in Hollywood. Issa Rae, who is one of the producers, recently spoke out about the diminishing support for Black stories following the cancellation of her show Rap Sh!t.

Rae voiced her concerns, saying, “You’re seeing very clearly now that our stories are less of a priority. I am pessimistic because there’s no one holding anybody accountable — and I can, sure, but also at what cost? I can’t force you to make my stuff. It’s made me take more steps to try to be independent down the line if I have to.”

The excitement surrounding this project also stems from the fact that successful Black-led buddy comedies have been few and far between in recent years. The last major success in this genre was Will Packer’s Girls Trip, which became a cultural phenomenon upon its release. Fans have been yearning for another film in the vein of classics like the 1997 hit B.A.P.S., which starred Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle-Reid. This upcoming film, with its powerhouse cast and creative team, has the potential to fill that void and deliver the laughs and heart that audiences crave.

Latto drops the visual for “Georgia Peach” and takes a beauty pageant-themed look into her Clayton County roots.

The ladies have been holding it down all year delivering hit after hit and prepping their upcoming projects. One of the most recent projects that was released came from Georgia’s own Latto. Latto’s new album Sugar Honey Iced Tea has officially hit streaming services to applause from hip-hop fans.

From front to back, the album is Georgia to its core and more specifically Clayton County. The first track on the album is “Georgia Peach” and Latto released the visual for the track shortly after her album release.

The video keeps the theme of straight-up southern vibes curated straight out of Clayton County with “Big Mama” herself. This is likely the first of many visuals from the project, and with features from Coco Jones, Young Nudy, Ciara, and more, there are several bangers to choose from going forward.

One noticeable pattern on the album is the Drake and OVO influence from the production to even some of the lyrics. This is interesting considering Latto’s inclusion in Drake’s 100GB data dump.

Friday marked the 10-year anniversary of the violent and tragic death of  Michael Brown Jr., who was shot and killed by former Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014. Brown’s death represented one of the high-profile cases that became the catalyst of the Black Lives Matter movement, however, a full decade later, no one has been held criminally accountable for his death, and his mother, Lezley McSpadden said she’s still “waiting” for some semblance of justice.

“Emotional, sad, heartbreaking,” McSpadden said in an exclusive interview with GMA3’s DeMarco Morgan, “Waiting on the promises that were made by certain officials. And 10 years later those promises have just become broken promises.”

In July, McSpadden gave testimony before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR), which reviewed the case of her son’s killing in a public hearing.

From ABC News:

Lezley McSpadden, Brown’s mother, joined nonprofit organization Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and Howard University on a Zoom conference to petition the IACHR to recommend for United States prosecutors to criminally litigate Brown’s killing. Lawyers from the U.S. State Department and the Department of Justice also attended the hearing.

“The PTSD is overwhelming. I do have three remaining children. I was very scared and nervous to let them out of my sight for weeks after Mike was killed,” McSpadden said. “I received tons and tons of threatening letters. It got so bad where my lawyers had to look through my mail before I looked through it.”

“We will undoubtedly hear from the state a litany of all the things they have done to address the scourge of racist police violence in this country over the last 10 years, some of which I commend them for doing,” Kerry Kennedy, with RFK Human Rights, said at the conference. “Is it enough when more people were killed by police in 2023 than any other previously recorded year? The answer is no.”

Now, it’s 2024, and, still, no criminal charges have been brought against Wilson or anyone else, and it’s not looking any more likely that there will be than it did 10 years ago, although Brown’s family did receive a $1.5 million settlement in 2017 after they filed a lawsuit against the City of Ferguson.

Chris King, spokesperson to the prosecuting attorney, Wesley Bell, who declined to press charges in Brown’s case, appeared to respond directly to McSpadden’s remark about “broken promises,” telling ABC:

“Wesley Bell promised to review the evidence and would never promise to file charges in any case. And he kept that promise by reviewing the evidence and making a public announcement that he would not file charges. At the end of the day, as was concluded by the DOJ and other investigative agencies, there is not sufficient evidence to justify any charges.”

During the interview, McSpadden and Brown’s sister, Deja Brown, both recalled the day they were informed of the 18-year-old’s killing at the hands of Wilson, who shot Brown six times within 90 seconds of laying eyes on him.

“That’s kind of like my worst nightmare that came true,” Deja told GMA3 host DeMarco Morgan. “You always hear about Black males in the world just being killed for whatever reason, like, they don’t make it past 25.”

McSpadden said it was her sister, not the police, who first informed her that her son had been shot.

“I was at work,” McSpadden said. “She just said to me, ‘They shot Mike-Mike’ [Brown’s nickname]. Those were her only words to me. When I clicked over and say ‘Hello,’ my heart dropped.”

McSpadden said she heard even less from the officer who she spoke to after her co-worker gave her a ride to the scene where Brown was still lying dead in the street.

“I saw an officer standing there,” she said. “He’s never seen me. I’ve never seen him. And I asked him, ‘Is that my son? And he say, ‘yeah.’ And I can’t tell you anything that happened after that for probably 72 hours because I died for a second there. I just lost it. I couldn’t believe it. Why?”

The rest of the story, we know. Wilson claimed Michael attacked him and grabbed his gun before he opened fire, and all of boot-licker America immediately took his word for it. Investigators said they couldn’t disprove Wilson’s side of the story, and no evidence would support pressing criminal charges against him.

After Brown was killed, McSpadden created the Michael O.D. Brown Foundation, which she said has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarship funds of college students, most of whom attended HBCUs.

“I met mothers that didn’t look like me that experienced the same thing,” McSpadden told Morgan. “And what we did have in common was the communities that we came from. Poverty stricken, low-income housing, people that they think are uneducated. But I will say that it’s been outrageously done to those who look like you and I.”

Michael Brown, who would have been 28 in May, should still be here, and we haven’t forgotten about him. Even if no one is truly ever held accountable for his death, his name will forever hold a place in the modern civil rights movement.

Rest well, Mike-Mike—gone, but never forgotten.

The film stars Naomi Ackie as a cocktail waitress named Frida and Channing Tatum as tech billionaire Slater King. When Frida “accidentally” bumps into King while working his fundraising gala, the chemistry is undeniable. By the end of the night, he invites her and her roommate Jess (Alia Shawkat) to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise.
