Viola Davis Talks Lack Of Black Hair Care Professionals In Hollywood

As WE do what needs to be done to increase diversity in film and television, there continues to be an extreme lack of melanin behind the scenes. Viola Davis, for one, isn’t entertaining Hollywood’s incompetence.

In a recent interview with Ebony, the Academy Award-winning actress said she specifically hires beauticians who know how to do Black hair. When asked about dealing with the lack of hair care professionals who can cater to Black women in Hollywood, she shouted out her stylist and said she doesn’t depend on others to get her tresses right.

“That has not been my narrative, lately, in terms of hair because I refuse it. I reject it… I don’t think that people understand our hair…they don’t understand that we’re different, but yet, the same. What I find is hair is something that a lot of people don’t honor when you do film,” Davis explained, adding that she hires HER OWN stylists to make sure her hair is done properly.

Watch her speak on the issue below.

Britney Spears’ Manager Weighs In On Superstar’s Mental Health & Return To The Stage

Last month, Britney Spears checked herself into a mental health facility, stating she needed “a moment.” Now, her manager Larry Rudolph says her return to the stage could be a lot more far off than indicated.

“As the person who guides her career — based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis — from what I have gathered it’s clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again,” Rudolph told TMZ.

“I don’t want her to work again ’till she’s ready, physically, mentally and passionately. If that time never comes again, it will never come again. I have no desire or ability to make her work again. I am only here for her when she wants to work. And, if she ever does want to work again, I’m here to tell her if it’s a good idea or a bad idea.”

Rudolph says Britney’s father getting sick last year was the “perfect storm,” as she grew distraught to the point that they had to pull her Vegas residency. Currently, Britney seems to be M.I.A.

“Last summer, when she wanted to tour, she called me every day. She was excited. She hasn’t called me in months. Crickets. She clearly doesn’t want to perform now,” he adds.

Britney checked out of the mental health facility after a month of recuperating… but by the sound of things, it’s unclear how much help that did. Here’s what she was up to earlier this month…

We’ll keep you posted.

Black Mirror production still

Source: Netflix / Netflix

It’s official, Black Mirror is back! The trailer for season 5 of the hit Netflix series dropped on Wednesday, and it’s chock full of twists, turns and celebrity cameos — including Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Anthony Mackie. The thriller anthology will consists of three brand new stories from creators Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones.

Variety reports:

“Once again, technology is front and center driving the stories in these three pieces, both distracting and tempting the protagonists. In addition to continuing to comment on the state of social media, this season promises to also dive deeper into the state of artificial intelligence, smart technology and virtual reality.”

The last time we got a new Black Mirror episode was back in December with the interactive standalone “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” in which viewers were able to make decisions for the main character choose different actions to see alternate outcomes. Folks enjoyed it so much that they couldn’t wait to get more BM episodes. So imagine the disdain fans felt when they found out that we were only getting three new episodes in season 5.

@VogueJukeBox: “black mirror made us wait so long only to give us 3 episodes huh… they better be interactive like bandersnatch.”

@cadymerow: “new black mirror on june 5 only three new episodes they better be two hours long each”

Season 5 of Black Mirror drops June 5th on Netflix. And if you ever wondered about the theory that each episode exists in the same Universe, then season 4 of the hit  show may prove the theory to be true. There were so many hidden messages, a.k.a. Easter Eggs, in the last season that made it clear everything in the Black Mirror-verse is connected.

Want your mind blow? Hit the flip for more and let the conspiracies begin.

Omarosa Files Documents To Join Lawsuit Against Donald Trump For Pay Discrimination Based On Gender

It seems Trump reject and former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman is joining the fight against Trump, who’s being accused of gender discrimination by multiple women.

According to Vox, Newman filed documents on Wednesday to join a lawsuit against Trump and his campaign, alleging pay discrimination on the basis of gender.

“After nearly 20 years inside the Beltway, working for two White Houses and countless political campaigns, I’ve never witnessed such egregious violations as I did during my time under the leadership of Donald Trump and Mike Pence,” Newman said in a statement to Vox.

Omarosa is hoping to join a suit filed by Alva Johnson, a former Trump campaign staffer who says Trump kissed her without her consent in August 2016 AND paid her less than his White male staffers. Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, called Johnson’s misconduct allegation “absurd,” and a campaign spokesperson argued that her claims about pay were “unfounded.”

“The Trump campaign has never discriminated based on race, ethnicity, gender, or any other basis,” Kayleigh McEnany, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said. “Any allegation suggesting otherwise is off base and unfounded.”

Riiight.

Newman isn’t accusing Trump of sexual misconduct. Instead, she and her legal squad are saying the Trump campaign had a pattern of paying women and men unequally, paying women staffers nearly 20 PERCENT less than male staffers.

“This case is about two things: Donald Trump’s predation, and his campaign’s discrimination against women and people of color,” said Hassan Zavareei, the lead attorney in the case.

Newman’s allegations come at a time when Trump is waging multiple legal battles, including a sexual assault allegation case from a former Apprentice contestant that is expected to move forward.

Smh.

Unfortunately, a typical day for the current Cheeto in charge.

It can be pretty difficult to watch folks share beautiful photos with their moms or even reminisce about moments with their mother when your mom is no longer here.

“Mother’s day can be a very hard day if you’ve lost your mom, or if you don’t have a good relationship with her. if any of you need a mom today i’m happy to be that for you, I love you all”- @HolyShnitt

But don’t fret. According to Jane Greer, Ph.D., a New York-based marriage and family therapist:

“It can be really, really hard to go about celebrating the day, especially if you’ve recently lost your mother,” she tells us. “And I recognize that. But it’s so important to do so. It’s so important to continue to celebrate your mother and her spirit, and to realize that even though you won’t be together in a physical sense this year, she’s with you in spirit.”

It may not be the easiest thing to do, but there are plenty of ways to navigate Mother’s Day without a mom. Greer added:

“It can be incredibly helpful and calming to engage in an activity that you and she used to do together, especially if a sentimental location is involved. If you used to celebrate by taking her out to brunch at a favorite local spot, continue ordering her beloved blueberry pancakes. If you used to frequent a certain coffee shop together, head back there today and drink a cup in her honor. Remind yourself that her legacy lives on in all of these things.”

Whatever you decide, just know that this Mother’s Day, you are not alone and an extra prayer goes up for you today.

“Happy Mother’s Day to the sisters who take care of their siblings almost as much, if not more than their mom, your family would be lost without you.” @Heartile

“Happy Mother’s Day to all my beautiful friends. Hope you get to do whatever you want to do today! Also for those of us who have lost our beloved mothers, hugs and I feel they are always with us. Their smile, their guidance, their love” @LondonGal_28

If you’re a motherless child this Mother’s Day, try to indulge in things that lift your spirits and honor your beloved mommy. And don’t think for a second that people have forgotten about you on this day. Let Tupac Shakur‘s sweet message to the motherless carry your spirit on this special day!

Omari Hardwick Talks Backlash Over Beyoncé Kiss

Omari Hardwick has been keeping quiet about the backlash he faced after embracing and kissing Beyoncé at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards, but this week he broke his silence and explained what was REALLY going on.

Speaking about fatherhood and raising his daughter Nova in an interview with Global Grind, the Power actor says that night he was just worried about his baby girl because she’d scratched her cornea. Omari says both Beyoncé and Jay-Z asked about Nova that night, which then led to an extended chat with Hov and the viral moment with Bey.

From Global Grind:

Criticized for how he interacted with Beyoncé at the award show, Omari had yet to discuss the moment publicly until explaining during our interview that, that night he was simply a worried father thanking his friends who’d expressed concern for his daughter throughout the night.

“She has ironically been injured in two very historical moments for me,” Omari told Global Grind when asked about Nova. “Her cornea was scratched the night of the Image Awards. The length of [my] talk with Jay was him asking me about her eye. The length of the hug with Bey was her asking about her eye. I give the speech and I bring up her eye,” he recalls.

Describing another moment when his daughter was hurt, Omari went on to tell us Nova’s head had been “busted by her little brother.” “Her eye is scratched by him the night of the Image Awards. A month to maybe a month and a half later, within the time of Nipsey’s death (who was a friend), now her head is busted,” he said, eyes wide with panic. “So, being a father of a daughter, makes it to where the MET experience for me might’ve been the most slow motion, beautifully embraced reality… walking through those long halls of that gallery… because I was thinking so much, on that long walk through those artifacts, about Nova. I kept thinking about Nova,” he revealed, referencing his appearance alongside Dapper Dan at the 2019 MET Gala earlier this week.

Omari also said Jay is like a big bro, so there’s no way he wouldn’t show Beyoncé love.

In an earlier sidebar, Omari explained that while the world knows him as Ghost, Jay-Z knows him as a little brother, saying “Jay-Z would’ve punched me in my face if I didn’t hug his wife. He would’ve said ‘n*gga, you don’t see Bey?’”

He tells the site that at no point in his life, even before having his daughter, did he think disrespecting women was cool…

“My honor and my respect for women – while you have idiot fanbases who go ‘Watch your wife around Omari’ – I got a wife (A), so f*ck you. I love you, but f*ck you (B). (C), I respect women so much prior to Nova being born that once Nova got to Earth… man, it doubled my respect for women. But I had it already ’cause I had a pop, who validated my existence as a man, so I didn’t think demeaning women was ever cool.”

Having a roommate could be one of the best experiences in your life, or one of the worst. As millennials living in this economy, it’s pretty safe to say that if most of us either live with our parents or share a space with someone else. According to the Pew Research:

In 1995, the earliest year with comparable data, 55 million adults (28.8%) lived in a shared household. In 2017, nearly 79 million adults (31.9% of the adult population) lived in a shared household – that is, a household with at least one “extra adult” who is not the household head, the spouse or unmarried partner of the head.

Sharing a space with a stranger has become so common place that some millennials fear that they may never live on their own.

@OhJuliatweets: “My friend from college lives in Paris and pays the equivalent of $900 USD/month for a 1-bedroom can you imagine living in a major city that isn’t fueled by bottomless greed and extortionately expensive to the point where you have to have roommates until you’re 40 wow hard pass/”

@KaleBHorton: “Boomers love to tell millennials that they should be thrilled to work 14 hour days in exchange for the privilege of getting their ass kicked all day by impotent old dudes named either Jim or Mark and going home to a studio apartment with 19 roommates.”

Don’t get us wrong, there are many perks to having a roommate. Obviously, one of the biggest perks is advantage of having a roommate is the ability to split the cost of rent and utilities, which means you’ll be able to afford a nicer, larger apartment than you could if you were living by yourself. You can also split the cost of other shared items, like groceries, and that’s always a plus. But picking the right roommate that aligns with your taste and ideals is the tricky part. Some folks just aren’t meant to share a space together for a long period of time.

@Daylaco: This whole roommate thing is so dead, i hate sharing my space w others

@cateblanchettt: The only time I hate sharing a bathroom with my current roommate is right now when she just went in there and I was about to shower

Speaking of imperfections, people tend to think celebs are perfect people that never do anything wrong or annoying. But quite the contrary. We’ve put together a list of celebs that you probably love, but would never want to share a living space with. Hit the flip to check it out.

Ayesha Curry caused quite a stir on social media this week after her comments about wanting male attention made its rounds on the Internet. On the latest episode of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Red Table Talk, Curry revealed that she feels insecure that she doesn’t get the same attention from men that her superstar husband Steph Curry gets from women.

“Something that really bothers me, and honestly has given me a sense of a little bit of an insecurity, is the fact that yeah, there are all these women, like, throwing themselves (at him), but me, like the past 10 years, I don’t have any of that. I have zero – this sounds weird – but, like, male attention, and so then I begin to internalize it, and I’m like, ‘Is something wrong with me?’ I don’t want it but it’d be nice to know that, like, someone’s lookin’.”

Folks on the Internet were divided in their opinion of the cookbook author’s comments. Most men felt that Ayesha was asking to have her cake and eat it too, while many women totally understood where she was coming from.

“Ayesha Curry upset cause other men won’t shoot they shot with her, literally half the world know you’re married to one of the GOAT and have kids, you want them to shoot they shot so you can curve them?? IF THAT AINT PEAK LIGHTSKIN WOMEN BRO SMH” – @ Squidz

“Ayesha curry is every mother who’s ever looked at herself in the mirror and struggled with wondering if she’s still as beautiful as she use to be before child bearing changed her appearance. and that is why the men can’t understand.” -@Pacchantas

After the memes starting flowing and the backlash ensued, Ayesha took to Instagram to address her controversial comments:

“I have never been one to cage my feelings and emotions to any capacity. I am human. It brings me pure joy to speak my mind, be vulnerable at times and to know myself inside and out. Seeing as how it’s mental health awareness month I really want to take the time to encourage everyone to speak their truth regardless of perception, fitting into a mold or offending someone, because it’s YOUR truth. And that’s okay!”

If what I’m not afraid to say out loud about being a 30yr mama of 3 helps another woman like me feel like they’re not the alone and not the only one with an insecurity (because we ALL have them, don’t play) then that makes all of this hoopla worth it.”

Aside from the backlash, many people were singing Ayesha’s praises — confused about why a gorgeous young woman like herself would ever feel insecure.

“All the talk about why she doesn’t get “traction” from men I just don’t get because any woman that walks with a standard & purpose is fine to me. She is definitely pretty outside too! Just because men aren’t saying anything doesn’t mean there’s no thought.” – @ShaneHarrisSnow

“Ayesha Curry isn’t idolized like Kim K & Yung Miami because she’s wholesome and isn’t showing skin… she’s pretty much “too real” for the public eye… and that’s a problem”- @Chrissy_Dior

Ayesha may not be on the cover of all the sexy magazines, baring her body, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she’s totally a MILF. Hit the flip for photos of the AC that will definitely get any man’s attention.
