Former Louisville Detective Brett Hankison Charged In Death Of Breonna Taylor

Source: Handout / Getty

Breonna Taylor’s family has still not been made whole following her unwarranted death at the hands of several Louisville Metro Police Department officers, including fired officer Brett Hankison. Hankison was previously charged with two counts of deprivation of rights but was let off the hook when a jury told the judge that they could not reach a unanimous decision resulting in a mistrial.

Of all the shots fired in the direction of Taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker, Hankison is said to have fired 10 of them. Three of those reportedly went into the adjoining apartment where a woman, her 5-year-old child, and a man were living. None of the rounds struck the trio.

According to the Courier-Journal, Hankison is set to face those charges for a second time and the prosecutors are looking to ensure his conviction with some new testimony as evidence against him. U.S. District Court Western District of Kentucky began hearing the case this past Tuesday and it is expected to take roughly three weeks to adjudicate.

In court records, prosecutors outline two occasions during which they say he “endangered his fellow officers and civilians” and breached LMPD protocols. Hankison should have known his actions during the Taylor raid were unacceptable since he had been admonished for similar actions in the past, prosecutors argued.

No ruling has been made on whether or not this evidence will be allowed to be admitted.

BOSSIP will continue to cover this trail and provide new information as it becomes available.

Angel Reese is making light of “living beyond her means” while playing for the WNBA. According to the Chicago Sky star’s latest video, her (ridiculously low) $74,000 annual salary isn’t enough to cover her expensive rent.

In an Instagram Live video shared on Oct. 15, the 22-year-old athlete revealed that she only makes $74,000 as a rookie with the league. Reese, who rose to fame as a forward with the Louisiana State University Tigers, encouraged her haters to keep on doubting her as “hating” helps her to pay “them bills.”

How Much Does Angel Reese Make With The WNBA?

Reese was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Chicago Sky this year and is set to earn $324,383 over the next four seasons. Her salary started at $73,439, according to Sports Rac, with increases leading to a team option of $93,636 in her fourth year, but that apparently isn’t enough to cover her daily expenses.

“I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” the Maryland native told fans in her video which was reposted by the SpilledMilkSM blog on Tuesday. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at. Let me do the math real quick. I don’t even know my [WNBA] salary. $74,000?”

Luckily, Reese has the option of boosting her salary thanks to additional incentives with the WNBA. For example, if she was selected to participate in an All-Star game, she could boost  her salary by an additional $2,575, according to USA Today. The extra dough would help Reese pay her expensive rent in Chicago, which after crunching some numbers with a friend off camera, she revealed to be $8,000 a month.

“I’m living beyond my means!” she gasped, before letting out a huge chuckle. “Babe, if y’all thought… That WNBA check don’t pay a thing. Did that even pay my car note?… I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich with that. I wouldn’t even be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live,” the baller added toward the end of the clip, according to Vibe.

Reese Makes Millions Off Her NIL Deals

Fortunately, Reese has multiple revenue streams to help cover her expenses. In 2023, she signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with Reebok, a major financial boost that raised her NIL valuation to $1.7 million—making her one of the top-ranked women’s basketball athletes in this area, according to On3. Reese ranks No. 7 in the On3 NIL 100, the first comprehensive ranking of high school and college athletes based on their NIL valuation.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Reese secured 17 NIL deals from 2022 to 2023, partnering with notable brands such as Sports Illustrated, Calvin Klein, ZOA Energy, and Goldman Sachs, among others. In a campaign ad for Goldman Sachs released in March, the basketball champ thanked her mother for instilling a strong work ethic and dedication into her throughout childhood.

“I owe so much to my mom,” the star shared in the campaign video posted to her Instagram account on March 18. “She instilled in me my confidence, work ethic and my commitment to my community. It’s clear that from her generation to today, Black women are still facing challenges. But I believe change is possible.”

Angel Reese is out here hustling! What do you think of her tight WNBA salary?

Amid fan freakouts over Tyler, The Creator’s Austin City Limits declaration that he didn’t know if he would be on stage again any time soon, the musician surprised his followers by announcing a new album.

Premiere For FX's

The Odd Future alum took to Instagram this week to announce the release of his eighth studio album, CHROMAKOPIA.  This comes just one day after he dropped a teaser, ST. CHROMA, which features Tyler leading a group of people all in the same outfit into a green shipping container with “CHROMAKOPIA” written on it.

“I built a path to freedom ’cause them words that he said/ Give a f**k about traditions, stop impressin’ the dead,” the rapper whispers during the teaser. “I ain’t never had a doubt inside me/ And if I ever told you that I did, I’m f**kin’ lyin’.”

Following up his 2021 project Call Me When You Get Lost, CHROMAKOPIA is set to drop on Monday, Oct. 28

Though the music industry has largely been adhering to the Friday album drop since Beyoncé released her self-titled album on a Friday in 2013, there’s a reason Tyler is changing things up this time around. Just last year, Tyler did some foreshadowing during an interview with Nardwaur when he explained why he thought music releases during the week make more sense than Friday.

“People on the weekends, they just want to chill and hang out. So they’re not really listening,” he began. “But I think if you put it out during the week, man. That commute to work or that commute to school or, just, whatever that is, you really have that hour or thirty minutes to dive in and really listen.”

Tyler also said that releasing albums at midnight feels “disrespectful” to the artist, who worked to hard on the project for people to be listening “passively.”

“People are sleep on the east coast and people are going to sleep on the west,” he explained. “I think it coming out in the morning would just make more sense.”

See you on October 28!

Big Meech

Co-founder of the Black Mafia Family, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, was released from prison to community confinement.

The story of Demetrius and Terry Flenory became the subject of 50 Cent’s hit show BMF centered around Black Mafia Family co-founders Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory.

BMF reportedly had hundreds of members nationwide and made over $250 million between 1989 and 2005.

Federal agents came knocking in 2005 and Southwest T and Big Meech were arrested and ultimately sentenced to 30 years for drug trafficking and money laundering. Southwest T was released from prison in early 2020 due to COVID-19 precautions to protect inmates with health issues, and now his brother is out as well.

Fox 5 Atlanta Reports, Big Meech was released from prison to community confinement.

According to the AP, Big Meech has been released from prison system. Demetrius will serve the remainder of his sentence in a Miami residential reentry program.

“He used his time in prison to focus on personal growth and transformation, and now he has the opportunity to begin a new chapter,” said Brittany K. Barnett co-founder of the Buried Alive Project who represented Meech. “He’s out, but millions more remain trapped inside — there’s still so much work to be done. We need to push for real change, for a justice system that recognizes the dignity and potential for redemption in every individual.”

Meech’s official release date is January 2026 but the transfer is enough for the culture to declare he’s home. The transfer became possible earlier this year after a judge shortened Demetrius’ sentence by three years.

Before anyone plans a celebration they keep in mind Meech will likely stay in community confinement until 2026. Hopefully, he can continue working on “BMF” alongside 50 Cent from the halfway house and begin new projects.

Memphis Awaits Release Of Police Body Cam Video Of Tyre Nichols' Arrest Prior To His Death Days Later

Source: Scott Olson / Getty

Ronald Greene was beaten to death in 2019 by a group of white state troopers in Monroe, Louisiana. Initially, Trooper Dakota DeMoss, Trooper Kory York, and Master Trooper Chris Hollingsworth attempted to cover up their fatal abuse of power by reporting that Greene died when he crashed into a tree. Following that lie, the troopers said that Greene struggled with officers and died on the way to the hospital.

The only reason we learned the truth about what happened is because AP News was able to obtain the body camera footage from the incident. Sufficed to say, the video did not match the story that DeMoss, York, and Hollingsworth were trying to sell.

According to WREG, Greene’s family has recently been uplifted by Tyre Nichols’ parents RowVaughn and Rodney Wells who have joined ubiquitous civil rights attorney Ben Crump to help achieve justice for Ronald, “I wanted to know why there wasn’t a civil rights case for him,” said Ms. Wells.

Greene’s mother, Mona Hardin, told ABC24 that she’s disturbed that a Black officer was fired for her son’s death but the white officers involved were allowed to retire without proper discipline. She also noted that one of those officers, Trooper Hollingsworth, died in a car accident before he could be terminated.

“He bragged about ‘I beat the ever-lovin’ f*** out of him.’ His words… A year later we were told they were gonna fire him and he died in a car wreck,” said Hardin. “And his records are sealed. Why is that? He bragged about what he’d did to my son. But when he died, his burial was with all the bells and whistles of a hero.”

This is why Black people and other people of color will never give officers the benefit of the doubt. Far too many “bad apples” have gotten away with far too much killing and covering up to believe in the good faith.

Bronny James Jr. - Phoenix Suns v Los Angeles Lakers

After being drafted into the NBA alongside his pop LeBron James, Bronny is giving a detailed look at his post-cardiac arrest journey.

After LeBron and Bronny James made history by becoming the NBA’s first father-son duo to hit the court together and with Bronny suffering a cardiac arrest last year, it’s a miracle to see his progress.

On Tuesday, Bronny covered the latest issue of Men’s Health and told his story in his own words.

According to Men’s Health, after his health scare, Bronny reset his routine and went back to square one. The magazine also pointed out that when discussing his cardiac arrest Bronny tensed up, and dropped eye contact.

“I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff.”Bronny revealed. “It was a total reset. I have to stay on top of my heart medications, and…I got my heart pillow,” he told Men’s Health. “When I coughed, it used to hurt a little bit, but you get this pillow, and when you cough you just hold it so it doesn’t hurt.”

In a rare moment of vulnerability, Bronny admitted that he is still recovering and isn’t back to 100%.

“My days aren’t normal anymore,” he said. “I still feel like I’m getting back, I’m getting back to where I was.” -said Bronny.

Getting back on the court so soon after cardiac arrest and heart surgery could be a bit much, but Bronny told Men’s Health that his father taught him to block out the outside noise.

“Everything I’ve been through over the years has prepared me for this,” Bronny confessed. “I really think it just ties back to me experiencing so much negativity and pushing through all of that. I feel like it built me to where any situation that is trying to hold me back or I’m not fighting through at the time, I can sustain my comfortability and belief in myself to keep going. I mean, there might be a couple times that I look at something and it makes me mad, and I go out and play better, but most of the time, it’s in through one, out the other.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bronny said he grew up upbringing as the eldest James child, and said he never expected that scrutiny and notoriety would be part of his life.

“Growing up, I didn’t really understand why everything was going on. I wasn’t really paying attention to everything, so it was a surprise to me, but not really, because I knew it was happening, but I didn’t know it was going to flood over me like that.” -Bronny reflected.

It’s refreshing to see Bronny tell his story in his own words and it seems like he’s set on keeping it as real as possible.

Kayla Nicole already gets enough backlash from Taylor Swift fans online, but after her appearance on Angel Reese’s podcast, she collected a whole new category of haters.

Los Angeles Premiere Of Netflix's

Source: Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty

As previously reported during her appearance on the WNBA star’s Unapologetically Angel podcast, Travis Kelce’s ex opened up about all of the negative attention she’s received online since the start of his relationship with Taylor Swift.

“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and online chaos doesn’t impact me,” Nicole told Reese. “It does, even to this day. You can go to my most recent post and there will be people debating each other why I am worthless and I’ll never be a talented person and I have no career.”

Kayla went on to admit that she doesn’t understand where the hate comes from, alluding to Swift being at the “level of fame that attracts crazy people.”

“I haven’t done anything to warrant that backlash,” she insisted.

Unfortunately for the I Am Athlete host, another segment of that same interview ended up garnering more backlash than ever before.

During the episode, Kayla revealed that after a guy she was dating dumped her for a “singer/actress,” she dressed up as them for Halloween — and posted it on Instagram. While she didn’t name names, she added that she had moved to New York to be with the mystery man and was heartbroken when she found out he had another woman the whole time.

“So I was dating a guy, and he dumped me through a text message. And he dumped me for this singer/actress who was famous at the time. He dumped me for her. Lied about it for months then popped out with her and it became this public thing,” she said.

Fans very quickly dug up her 10-year-old Halloween costume, when Kayla dressed up as Teyana Taylor from Kanye West’s “Fade” music video. Many people agreed that this was a crazy thing to do–which Nicole emphasized while telling the story–even getting a catty response from Teyana herself.

Now, Kayla is responding to the backlash, revealing that even her own mother had a problem with how she handled the situation.

“After the podcast came out, I thought that I handled things with grace,” she said during Tuesday’s episode of I Am Athlete Daily. “I thought that I answered the questions to the best of my ability. The public had their interpretation of things — didn’t matter to me.”

“My mom calls me though — and it’s those conversations … that’s what matters to me,” Nicole continued. “Because she’s offended, she’s hurt by the way people are perceiving her daughter, she’s hurt with the negative headlines and the way that people are spinning it.”

Wiping away tears, she went on to share the advice her mother gave her for the future.

“My mom was like, ‘Maybe next time, we don’t answer those questions,’ and it’s as simple as that,” Nicole explained. “Don’t give it any energy. You don’t have to always respond.”

Kayla seems to be in better spirts about the situation, even writing in the IamAthlete Daily’s Instagram comments;

“Deeply appreciate ya’ll for creating a safe space for honest conversation!” wrote the model. “Holding me accountable while giving me grace to grow. Thank you. Also, don’t ever get this many close up’s of me ugly crying again man lol.”
