Body Cam Footage Shows Police Officer Beating Handcuffed Man

A Florida police officer is being investigated after body cam footage showed him beating a suspect who was already detained.

ABC News reports that an internal investigation was opened against Broward County Sheriff Deputy Jorge Sobrino after he was seen punching David O’Connell and aggressively twisting his arm at a South Florida hospital in January.

Sobrino arrested the man at a Pompano Beach, Florida Walmart while responding to a domestic disturbance report. The man was arrested on charges of resisting without violence and taken to a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the arrest.

Body camera footage shows that that’s when a confrontation took place.

WPLG Local 10 obtained the recording;

“Hey, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be here. I wanna sign off!” O’Connell is heard yelling in the video. “I wanna sign off!”

Sobrino then closes the door, and orders O’Connell, who had one hand cuffed to the hospital bed, to sit down — but he refused.

“Now you’re going to f—ing close the door and beat my a** again,” O’Connell is heard saying. “F— you! Now you think you’re all big now because you’re a f—ing cop?”

Officer Sabrino then throws the man’s legs on the bed, before punching him in the face and twisting his arm behind his back.

Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen said the officer’s conduct was “unacceptable” and called for his firing.

“I was the first to call for the firing of one of the officers involved in the beating of a Delucca Rolle, who put up no resistance. I want the same to happen here. I’m asking for the Sheriff to take immediate action,” Bogen said.

“There has to be a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and brutality. This is the second time in less than a week, where videotape shows a BSO deputy abusing his power. I am asking the State Attorney’s Office to open a criminal investigation into this as well.”

John Singleton Still Alive Despite Reports

A legendary director who brought characters to life in films and television like “Boyz In The Hood” has NOT passed away, so reports TMZ.

As previously reported John Singleton suffered a major stroke and was put into a coma. TMZ says despite reports that Singleton, 51, has passed away—he’s actually still alive but on life support.

They report that he’s still in a medically induced coma at Cedars Sinai hospital and unresponsive. Things look grim for the film legend.

Over the weekend John’s daughter Cleopatra Singleton disputed reports that his condition was deteriorating.

Cleopatra claimed that Singleton’s mother, Shelia Ward, was “misrepresenting” his condition, according to a court filing obtained by CNN. In it, she wrote that her filmmaker father could be removed from the intensive care unit in the forthcoming days.

“Although they do not have a concrete diagnosis, my dad is progressing every day…he is only medically sedated to keep his blood pressure low and allow the vessels in his brain to heal”

This is all such sad, sad, news.

Ryan Parker of The Hollywood Reporter is echoing TMZ’s story.

Keep praying for John Singleton.

Avengers: Endgame Opens With $1.209 Billion Weekend

“Avengers: Endgame” came and it conquered.

The highly anticipated Disney/Marvel flick smashed box office records not only domestically, but internationally and worldwide.

According to Deadline the movie raked in $859 million at the international box office which leads to a $1.209 BILLION global launch.

And this was just for one weekend.

This makes Endgame the first movie to surpass $1B worldwide in its debut, reaching the milestone in only five days. In these few days, Endgame is already the No. 18 film on the all-time global charts, skyrocketing past Captain America: Civil War and the recent Captain Marvel. Endgame also broke international records with the biggest opening weekend at $859 million.

As the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Endgame also contributes to MCU’s whopping 19.9 billion in revenue.

Domestically, the film shattered records as well, including the biggest opening weekend at $350 million, the first film to cross $300 million in its opening weekend and the fastest film to hit $100 million at 17 hours.

And again, this is just the opening weekend.

There’s still plenty more weeks to go.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Debate in St. Louis

Source: Brooks Kraft / Getty

In today’s edition of “the President is trippin’”, Donald Trump went out of his way to congratulate the NFL Draft’s number two pick Nick Bosa without even acknowledging number one pick, Heisman Trophy winning Black man Kyler Murray. In true Trump form, he took to Twitter to be willfully shady, writing:

The petty tweet caused an uproar on social media with folks pointing out that Murray — who also made history as the only player ever to be drafted in the first round of the NFL and MLB — should be congratulated as well.

Even Time magazine called the President out on his pettiness.

Just to refresh your memory, Nick Bosa is the same guy that called Colin Kaepernick a “clown”  for kneeling during the National Anthem. TBH, do we expect anything more from Trump? Nah.

But congrats to Kyler Murray for making history!

Nene Leakes Sends Porsha Williams A Cease And Desist

Chiiilllle, the Real Housewives of Atlanta drama just won’t let up. We’ve watched Nene Leakes and Porsha Williams‘ beef for most of the season and the reunion episodes, and now they’re beef has reached court document level — at least according to Porsha. The new mom told PEOPLE that after she took to Instagram to share screenshots of Nene fat-shaming her while pregnant, Leakes sent her a cease and desist letter.

“After that whole Instagram back and forth that she started with me, she ended up sending me a cease and desist. So once she sent me a cease and desist, at that point, I was like, ‘You know what? This is just a sure sign that I should be done with the relationship.’ So I’m over it. I’m concentrating on my baby girl. And people who love and support me at this moment.”

You may recall that in the lethal texts, Nene called Porsha a “lying a** big fat hungry b***h” and a “big piggy with the busted shape.” The Swag shop owner has made it clear that she’s no longer friends with any of the girls on the show, and judging by her taking matters to court, it’s probably safe to say she won’t be sippin’ tea with the ladies anytime soon.

Family Of Jamycheal Mitchell Reaches $3 Million Settlement, Hampton Roads Regional Jail Being Investigated

The family of a Virginia man who died in jail has been granted a settlement. Jamycheal Mitchell passed away at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail in Portsmouth, Virginia, on August 19, 2015. He was behind bars for months after he was arrested on charges of trespass and petit larceny for allegedly stealing a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew, a king size Snickers bar and a Zebra Cake which accumulated to about $5 worth of snacks from a 7-Eleven.

The Appeal recently released an extensive story about Jamycheal’s alleged abuse in the jail. The website notes that Jaymycheal was ordered to receive mental health treatment after he was declared unfit to stand trial. The Virginia man had a history of severe mental disability including a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder.

The treatment did not happen however and he was incarcerated at the Portsmouth correctional facility up until his death. He was allegedly treated poorly all the way up to his demise.

“While incarcerated at the jail, correctional officers allegedly struck Mitchell on the knuckles with a flashlight, hurled profanities, mocked him, and called him “dirty,” all as punishment for being uncooperative. When Mitchell was found dead in his cell in August 2015, he was covered in urine. Portsmouth’s chief medical examiner said the cause of death was a “probable cardiac arrhythmia accompanying wasting syndrome of unknown etiology.”

His family settled lawsuits against the jail and NaphCare, the company that provided medical services for the jail, for approximately $3 million.

Now Hampton Roads Regional jail is continuing to be investigated and the DOJ threatened to sue them if they did not improve conditions in particular for those with mental health issues.
The DOJ also criticized the incarceration of 62 people with severe mental illness at Hampton Roads who had booking histories of “minor offenses,” such as shoplifting, trespassing, and violating their probation.

Unfortunately, the DOJ’s yet to take action, a delay that could possibly be in part because of the government shutdown.

The Appeal reports;

“In its December 2018 report, the DOJ gave the jail just over a month and a half to implement its recommendations. The agency also said it would sue if the jail did not “satisfactorily” improve its conditions during that time period. But when the deadline passed in February, the federal government had just emerged from the longest shutdown in history. As of early this month, the DOJ had not followed through on its threat to sue Hampton Roads. (The agency did not respond to The Appeal’s request for comment.) The jail continues to work with the DOJ on its recommendations, Hackworth said.

He told The Appeal that he is awaiting more clarity from the agency on its more than 40 recommended remediations, such as auditing of administrative records regularly for completeness and accuracy, ensuring there are improved intake screenings and health assessments, and ending restrictive housing for people who say they are suicidal.”

Now The Virginian Pilot reports that an unfortunate fight has broken out between Jamychael’s family members for the settlement money. Jamycheal’s mother’s side of the family is reportedly fighting with his father’s side.

“The mother’s side argues they were closer to Jamycheal and deserve most, if not all, of the money. The mother believes she should receive the “majority,” with the half sister receiving a “reasonable” portion. The maternal half-sister wants an equal split between the two.

The father’s side said they were all equally close to him. Therefore, they believe they should all receive equal portions: about $215,000 a person.

We pray that Jamycheal’s family finds some middle ground and that the DOJ continues to look into a facility where 68 in-custody deaths took place between 2003 and 2018.

Jay-Z Performs ‘B-Sides’ Set At Webster Hall

Jay-Z always knows what to do to get people talking all while pushing the culture forward. The Brooklyn legend made New York’s Webster Hall great again for the venue’s reopening by performing one of his “B-sides” set with an intimate show. But it wouldn’t be a Hov show without some special guests in the building. Nas hit the stage with Jay to perform their 2007 track “Success” followed by the classic “Dead Presidents”, then the Queens legend closed out their set with “New York State of Mind”.

One of the biggest surprises of the night was Jay brought out former nemesis Cam’ron to perform their 2002 collab “Welcome to New York City.” The audience went wild seeing the semi Roc-A-fella reunion, and ish got crazier once Jim Jones joined them on stage to perform “I Really Mean It.”

A standout moment from the classic performance was Hov’s tribute to the late, great Nipsey Hussle. He freestyled:

“Gentrify your own hood before these people do it. Claim eminent domain and have your people move in. That’s a small glimpse into what Nipsey was doing. For anybody still confused as to what he was doing.”

Jay’s “B-Sides 2” set is Webster Hall’s first show since it closed down for renovation in August 2017. Shout out to Hov for bringing the culture back to NYC in such a dope way.

Fox News Employee Chastises Colleagues For “White Supremacist Chat Room” Email

We already know what type time Fox News is on, so it comes as no surprise that a great many of their employees are in line with the type of white power mentality that people like Tucker Carlson and Lou Dobbs subscribe to.

Today comes further evidence of this fact.

According to DailyBeast, internal Fox News emails have been leaked to the public where one of the news corps decent employees chided and rebuked his Mein Kampf-y colleagues for sounding like a “white supremacist chat room” on a particularly obsequious email thread in defense of the Fuhrer-In-Chief Donald Trump.

As Joe Biden entered the presidential race this week, he did so in direct opposition to Trump. His announcement had a clip of Trump infamous “very fine people on both sides” quote following the race riot in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. The Fox News douchebags, reporter Doug McKelway and digital senior editor Cody Derespina, tried to argue that Trump never really said those words.

McKelway began his email with a Winston Churchill quote: “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” He then proceeded to echo the pro-Trump claim that the president never said what he said about the neo-Nazis who marched at the deadly event.

McKelway contrasted portions of Biden’s script against the same quotes that pro-Trump outlets have used to claim the president never defended white nationalists. And then the reporter highlighted a quote from his own interview with Brian Lambert, an armed Unite the Right attendee, who portrayed the neo-Nazi rallygoers as victims: “They’re denying people their right to assemble. They’re denying their right to speak freely, however hateful their views may be,” he bemoaned.

Cody replied all agreeing with McKelway and providing a link to his interview with marcher Jarrod Kuhn claiming he wasn’t a violent racist, just didn’t want to see the Robert E. Lee statue removed.

White House correspondent Jon Decker finally had enough and politely ethered both men on another reply-all email containing dozens of addressees.

“I really don’t understand the point you are making,” he wrote. “Jarrod Kuhn was one of those individuals in Charlottesville holding a tiki torch while the mob chanted ‘Jews will not replace us.’”

And then:

“So much for your Winston Churchill quote,” Decker shot back hours later for all to see.

He scolded McKelway for “invoking Churchill to what happened in Charlottesville,” calling it “rather offensive.”

In fact, Decker continued, “Based upon the slew of emails that I’ve received today, both of you should send an apology to your Fox News colleagues—many of whom are hurt and infuriated by your respective posts. Your posts read like something you’d read on a White Supremacist chat room.”

Sounds like Fox News office politics is just as nasty as their on-air politics. Some real Game of Thrones s#!t. SMH.
