“Iyanla Fix My Life” Returns For 6th Season On OWN

Iyanla is back y’all! “Iyanla: Fix My Life” returns for Season 6 this Saturday, June 1st and if the super trailer is any indication, this one is a doozy!

Here’s more details about the new season of “Iyanla: Fix My Life”

In this dramatic new season of the series, the Mitchell family returns for more episodes in search of Iyanla’s help. In part one, Iyanla reunites with the family and finds that they have fallen back into old patterns: Michael, Jr. has gone back to making lewd videos, Markis’s guilt about failing his family has led to a suicide attempt and one sibling went MIA. In part two of this multi-episode story, Iyanla sits down with the oldest sibling, Kizzy, to help her understand that she is no different from the mother who abandoned her; meanwhile, Iyanla sits Michael, Jr. down with mother Leronda to gain a greater understanding of an untreated mental health issue – one causes emotional outbursts and spurs him to post degrading videos of himself on social media; and lastly, Iyanla addresses the violent breakdown during the previous episode between Marvin and Melvin around one brother’s discomfort with his own sexuality. In a final attempt to move beyond the burden of resentment they hold towards their mother and each other, Iyanla jumps in between the chaos of family squabbles, breakdowns and blowups by making each member face their core issues of deeply rooted mistrust.

In subsequent episodes, Iyanla meets with a troubled young woman born in prison to a drug-addicted mother. Hours before being born, her 22-year-old father was notified he had a daughter on the way—a daughter that he was neither expecting nor sure he wanted. Lil’Karla marinated in a womb of “unwantedness” and grew up among family that she claims raised her in that same spirit, which she uses as an excuse for a lifetime’s worth of bad behavior. Also, Iyanla proves the old saying “If it’s not one thing, it’s your mother,” as she deals with two separate cases of manipulative women who will do anything in their power to control their adult children, followed by a couple who are desperately trying to save their marriage. Iyanla continues her work as she sits down with a father and his three sons – two of which he suspects are not actually his.

YIKES… Sounds like a lot of family drama that many of us can relate to — or hopefully are blessed enough not to relate to.

OWN is also launching a podcast version of its award-winning series “Iyanla: Fix My Life” available June 18 on Apple Podcasts. The “Iyanla: Fix My Life” podcast will feature previously aired content from the critically-acclaimed series’ most popular interviews featuring spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant, as she helps those who are struggling, guiding them toward a new way of living and encouraging them to do the work necessary for real change.

Lonnie Bunch Becomes First African American To Lead Smithsonian Institution

Congratulations are in order! This past Tuesday, Lonnie G. Bunch III became the first Black man to lead the Smithsonian Institution, as it was announced that he will replace David Skorton as secretary.

“I am excited to work with the Board of Regents and my colleagues throughout the Institution to build upon its legacy and to ensure that the Smithsonian will be even more relevant and more meaningful and reach more people in the future,” Bunch said in a statement, USA Today reports.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Smithsonian Institution chancellor, doubled down on just how much Bunch deserves the title.

“Lonnie Bunch guided, from concept to completion, the complex effort to build the premier museum celebrating African American achievements,” Roberts said, according to CNN. “I look forward to working with him as we approach the Smithsonian’s 175th anniversary, to increase its relevance and role as a beloved American institution and public trust.”

“According to the institution, in addition to working at the African American museum, Bunch also had stints at the National Museum of American History and the National Air and Space Museum, and served for a number of years as president of the Chicago Historical Society,” the site continues.

As stated in the announcement above, Bunch will oversee 19 museums, 21 libraries, the National Zoo, and more. Now, that’s Black Excellence!

Last time we heard from NEXT lead singer R.L, he was not too pleased about the way classic R&B songs and groups were being treated in this Internet age. He even confronted Internet sensation Nicholas Frazier over his “Why You Always Lying” video, a parody of NEXT’s biggest single “Too Close”, saying that he’s not too happy about someone turning his “life’s work” into a joke.

R.L. recently stopped by to clear up some of the wildest headlines BOSSIP has written about him, and his sentiments about the lack of respect that the culture has for 90’s R&B groups hasn’t really changed. The “We Can’t Be Friends” singer also opened up about filing for bankruptcy and new music he wrote dedicated to his beautiful baby girl Rory Lane.

Check it out in the video above.

Iggy Azalea Addresses Nude Photo Leak

Iggy Azalea is known for showing off her curves on the gram (and on stage) all the time — but the latest photos to leak went out without her consent. The “Fancy” rapper spent her Memorial Day holiday addressing the images that were leaked over the weekend on Twitter.

Iggy posted a now-deleted message from her notes app explaining that the pictures were outtakes from a 2016 GQ photoshoot that were never intended for public release.

Via People:

“Recently some outtakes from my 2016 GQ magazine cover were leaked to the public,” she explained. “A lot of high profile women have shot covers for GQ with a strategically placed hand etc covering their breasts etc. I always felt they were very beautiful covers, so I jumped at the opportunity.”

“I hadn’t seen other women’s covers leak so I felt comfortable (on a closed set) to model for such a reputable magazine knowing only the images with my hands covering would be considered for print,” she continued. “I never consented to taking topless pictures for potential release, period. It was my understanding BEFORE shooting, GQ do not print topless pictures.”

“There was no reason for anyone to have kept the outtakes from the shoot. I’m surprised and angry that they were not immediately deleted after the final images were selected,” Azalea added.

The photographer from the shoot also addressed the situation, expressing his sympathies to all parties affected and expressing his own outrage.

Iggy’s message also conveyed how the aftermath of the leak has left her feeling completely violated:

“Today I’m a ball of negative emotions. I feel blindsided, embarrassed, violated, angry, sad and a million other things. Not solely because I did not consent to this — but also because of the vile way people have reacted,” she began.

“It’s like a nuclear bomb that explodes and not only destroys you emotionally, but leaves a path of destruction in your personal life, effecting [sic] your relationships & people who matter most too [sic].”

“I fully intended on finding out where the leak originated from and pressing criminal charges in regards to this. It’s important to me that someone actually be held accountable for their actions & the way it impacts my life,” she said.

“I don’t feel there is any where [sic] I can retreat to or that I have a ‘happy place’ I can wait in until it all blows over. Please think of how you might feel if the shoe was yours to wear,” she urged. “I have seen some really vicious s— written in the last 24 hours and it is too much negativity for me to handle. For now it’s best to keep my accounts deactivated.”

“Please be kinder to one another,” Iggy added.

Sad situation for Iggy. We hope the culprits are caught.

How American is it to celebrate National Hamburger Day the day after most people in the country scoffed down burgers and hotdogs for Memorial Day?

There’s just something about whipping up those hardy meats on a grill when the weather is teetering on Summer status an and everyone is in a good mood. But these days, folks are a lot more conscious about what they’re putting in their bodies, which means mostly ditching animal based products for more plant based alternatives — and they might have millennials to thank for that. According to a 2018 Forbes article, Gen Y-ers are the driving force behind today’s global vegan movement.

“The shift toward plant-based foods is being driven by millennials, who are most likely to consider the food source, animal welfare issues, and environmental impacts when making their purchasing decisions.”

Millennials may have a larger percentage of vegans and vegetarians thant their parents and grandparents, but it’s the kids that came after us who are truly about that plant based life.

“Researchers found that Gen Z buys 80 percent more kale, 57 percent more tofu, and a whopping 266 percent more avocados than Gen X. What’s more, Gen Z consumes 550 percent more plant-based milk. And as members of this generation grow older and start their careers and families, we can expect to see an even greater boom!”

It’ healthy to treat yourself to whatever you want every once in a while — especially during holidays that are based around “unhealthy” foods, but don’t sleep on the healthy alternatives. Hit the flip for some alt-hamburger options that are low key better than the real thing.

“Living By Design With Jake And Jazz” Is A New Interior Design Show For Millennials

Siblings Jake and Jazz Smollett have teamed up to transform the homes of millennials for their new show “Living By Design With Jake And Jazz.”

The new show on network CLEO TV pairs the siblings with mostly millennial women of color who are in need of a style revamp in their homes. The Smolletts’ tap into their shared interest in interior design and cooking on the show, first redesigning the subject’s space and then making a meal with them.

“‘Living By Design’ has been such a fun project to work on,” Jazz said. “ It encompasses design and food, which is both of our passions…It’s not a cookie cutter redesign of their space. It’s functional and cute at the same time.”

The Smolletts, whose handlers told us they did not want to discuss their brother, Jussie being accused of staging a hate crime attack, insisted that you can design your home beautifully without spending a lot of money.

“You don’t have to break the bank to reflect you and make it feel like home,” Jazz said. “We do a lot of online thrifting. You can find stuff that you can repurpose.”

Jake said that small tweaks like shifting furniture around and putting money towards bigger pieces can go a long way towards creating a chic interior design.

“You can always refurbish a place for next to nothing if you are willing to go get a can of paint and an extra knob,” he said.

Lastonia Leviston In Default After Not Responding To Rent Dodge Case

Rick Ross’ baby mama’s new business has been turfed out of its storefront in a South Florida shopping center after a judge ruled that she never paid rent on the space.

A South Florida Judge Raag Singhal found Lastonia Leviston guilty by default of not paying nearly $56,000 in rent on a commercial property for her business “Instatiques,” in the Pines City Center in Pembroke Pines, according to court papers obtained by BOSSIP.

The TA Pines City Center LLC sued Leviston back in February, claiming that Leviston agreed to pay $26,756 a month in rent when she booked the storefront in Dec. 2018. But the company said Leviston never paid the rent, and by February, the arrears that had swelled to $55,224.33.

The TA Pines City Center said it demanded the mother of Rick Ross’ oldest daughter to pay the money back, but she refused. The landlord said it wanted the back rent plus interest and its lawyer’s fees paid. On May 7, the judge came back and sided with the company, after Leviston never responded to the case.

Leviston founded the “Instatiques” company back in 2017 – according to public records – though it was unclear what exactly the business sold.

It’s not the first time that Leviston has squared off in a courtroom. She won $7 million in a civil suit against 50 Cent after a jury agreed that he helped leak a sex tape of her in order to humiliate her and taunt rival rapper, Rick Ross.

DaBaby Cam Coldheart Fight Video

Someone thought it’d be a good idea to troll DaBaby in a local mall, and that same someone was left pantsless and embarrassed.

A rapper named Cam Coldheart took to IG to post a video of himself trolling the Charlotte rapper and following him around inside a Louis Vuitton store.

“You a b****,” Cam can be heard saying in the video. “Y’all look at the n**** DaBaby. That n**** DaBaby in here talking some s***.” “He walking up on me and s*** like he about to do something. What you gon’ do? What you taking your s*** off for?”

Cam apparently previously claimed that DaBaby was falsely repping Charlotte when he’s “really from Ohio”, so when he saw him out and about, he seized an opportunity.

Unfortunately for Cam, DaBaby also seized the opportunity and Cam was left in a crumpled, bloody heap after the altercation. The rival rapper’s pants were also left around his ankles.

“When bullying Baby on the internet goes wrong,” DaBaby captioned the vid.

SMH.
Cam Coldheart is adamant however that Da Baby didn’t fight him one-on-one ad says he was jumped by DaBaby’s security.

Suuuuuure.

If Cam was jumped, this is the second time in recent weeks that DaBaby’s security has been accused of being violent. They were previously seen on video beating up an “overzealous” fan, and that man is reportedly in a coma.

We don’t condone violence, but everyone knows DaBaby will defend himself. Remember when he killed a man in Walmart who was trying to rob him?

Leave that man alone, y’all.

This is reportedly Da Baby’s response to the fight. He posted a clip from his “Suge” video.

Museum Of Fine Arts In Boston Responds To Racism Claims

After a group of black middle schoolers was racially profiled on a field trip, a local museum is issuing a response.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston said it revoked memberships from two visitors and banned them from the museum’s grounds after a teacher said her students were racially profiled during a recent class trip, reports NBC News.

Marvelyne Lamy, a teacher at Helen Y Davis Leadership Academy in Dorchester, Massachusetts, wrote a Facebook post detailing comments made by museum patrons and a tour guide. According to Lamy, a group of 30 or so more seventh-graders was with her at the museum when a tour guide told the children, “no food, no drink, and no watermelon” after they entered the building.

Later Lamy claims one of her female students was told by a visitor; “It’s a shame that you’re not learning and instead stripping,” as the child danced to music playing in the exhibit.

She also adds that they were trailed by security throughout the museum and berated.

“We were instructed not to touch any of the artifacts in the museum, yet the white students there touched the displays several times while security looked on without saying anything. The minute one of our students followed suit, the security guards would yell at them that they should not touch exhibits. Throughout our walk through, they followed us. Many of our students grew agitated.

At the end, we went through the gender bending exhibit where the security guard followed our every movement. It got so bad that I started gathering our students so we could leave. I was pulling one of my students to come out the exhibit, when she said that one of the visitors made a comment towards her when she was dancing to music included in the exhibit. The visitor said that’s it’s a shame that she is not learning and instead stripping. That’s when I had it. I told them we are leaving right now.”

[…]

“As we were walking out, our students were standing in the doorway of the Africa exhibit. We had them clear out the doorway so people could pass by. This lady walks by and says, “Never mind there’s f****g black kids in the way.” And ironically she says this in the African exhibit.

The museum said in a May 24 message on its website that it looked into the complaints and indeed found two instances of two of its patrons making “racist comments” to students.

“We have identified the patrons who made the disparaging remarks and revoked their memberships, banning them from the Museum’s grounds,” the museum stated. “We will serve them with a no-trespass cease-and-desist notification.”

The Museum of Fine Arts also added that all front-line staff will receive additional training on “how to engage with incoming school groups about policies and guidelines.”
