Cynthia Bailey Engaged to Sportscaster Bae Mike Hill’

According to People, congratulations are due in order for Cynthia Bailey and Mike Hill. After about 14 months of dating, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star and her Fox sportscaster bae are engaged to be married.

Hill reportedly proposed to Bailey Friday evening with a 5 carat princess cut solitaire ring in Atlanta at the grand opening of her new business, The Bailey WineCeller.

The surprise proposal was a family affair an everyone was there including Bailey’s daughter Noelle Robinson and Hill’s two daughters — Kayla and Ashlee — all in attendance, all well as the couple’s closest friends and Bailey’s RHOA cast mates.

Mike reportedly enlisted the help of his and Cynthia’s daughters and Courtney Ajinça to make the proposal a total surprise. Hill started off a toast that was interrupted by Kaylee, who handed her dad a bottle with a big question mark on it and said, “No dad, I think you should propose like this.”

Mike then called on Cynthia’s daughter, Noelle, to help him open the bottle and she handed over the ring box, the insider added. That’s when Mike reportedly “dropped to one knee and professed his love,” while his and Cynthia’s daughters “gathered behind him with a hand-made puzzle piece sign that real, ‘Can we be a family?’”

This will be the second marriage for both Bailey and Hill.

“Stay out of grown folks business.”

A phrase I’m sure many of us have heard before, either from parents, relatives or people throughout our community. There are many times I remember my mom paying for something and I would ask, “How much did that cost,” to which she replied, “Don’t worry about it” or “stay out of grown folks business.”

Though the phrase might bring back funny childhood memories, it can take on a deeper meaning  as an adult when it comes to the actual “business” of making money, especially for Black people or women of color. Mo’Nique has made this abundantly clear now that she’s brought about conversations on the detriments of staying out of the “business.”

Back in January 2018, Mo’Nique left people divided when she called for folks to boycott Netflix for gender bias and racial bias because she argued that she wasn’t getting paid as much as her White or male peers. Some people thought she was crazy for taking on such a big streaming and entertainment platform. She even notoriously received “Donkey of the Day” from Charlamagne tha God on The Breakfast Club. Meanwhile, other folks thought she had a point, including Chance the Rapper, Jada Pinkett Smith and fellow comedian Wanda Sykes who initially tweeted, @moworldwide,thank you for speaking out. @netflix offered me less than half of your $500k. I was offended but found another home. #EPIX”

Eventually, Mo’Nique released email documents of her Netflix offer and they showed that Mo’Nique’s deal was actually pretty bad. According to Salon:

“For the two years after the premiere of her special, Netflix asked that ‘Mo’Nique not perform or use the material from our special in any recorded program (audio-only or audio-visual work), then we ask for a first negotiation/first refusal right after the 24 months in the event that she does want to use the material elsewhere.’ More or less, Netflix wouldn’t have just had possession of the produced show, but the content therein, forcing her to develop entirely new material for touring, which is the lifeblood of any working comedian. Here, Netflix is essentially proposing to own the comedian and her jokes for the next two years for $500,000 — a very bad deal.”

With Mo’Nique calling out Netflix and then releasing the alleged documents to their deal, for once, it felt like a Black veteran was letting the community into “grown folks business.”

This is an important moment because, historically, Black people have continually been cut off from wealth-building, whether it be in the housing market, the job arena, or even with reparations for past harms done to Black folks.

If anyone should be talking about money publicly, it’s Black people….especially Black women who are typically paid 61 cents to White men’s dollar, according to the American Association of University Women.

Mo’Nique has continually said in interviews that she’s taking up her cause for the young Black girls who are coming behind her. A young Black female comedian could easily be watching Mo’Nique and thinking twice on how she handles business. Mo’Nique is letting this future star into grown folks business.

[embedded content]

Now one might argue Mo’Nique didn’t have to go as far as to boycott Netflix, or she could’ve just taken the Netflix offer for now, then demanded more if her special did numbers. However, this is a strategy that doesn’t necessarily bring money-talk to the larger public, at least at the same force Mo’Nique has brought it to the public. By being so extreme, Mo’Nique said we’re going to have this conversation now and we’re going to involve everyone — the big streaming sites, the studios and, of course, Black people.

Mo’Nique has even opened up conversations about Black people’s buying power in the first place. Is it possible folks like Amy Schumer and Chris Rock are getting offered more money because they have a larger White audience, one that Mo’Nique hasn’t necessarily acquired? If most of Mo’Nique’s audience is Black, how many of us have the buying power to support her so that Netflix can witness the numbers. Sure, there’s rich Black people, or Black people with good jobs who can easily pay for a Mo’Nique show or a simple Netflix subscription. But again, considering the large wealth gap between Black people and White people, and Black people’s slimmer access to capital, is it hard to believe that our Black heroes might fair better getting White dollars rather than Black dollars.

This is a serious problem that grown folks need to discuss, especially now that Black money-talk has reached this year’s presidential campaigns.

Now granted, some of the points Mo’Nique makes can only be taken as speculation. Although she’s released emails of her alleged Netflix dealings, we might not have every single document from their interaction, and we definitely haven’t seen receipts from her past business talks. For example, it would be great to have the emails and phone conversations she had with Lionsgate, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry — another group that seemed to chastise Mo’Nique for her financial demands. Only with more documentation can we learn who was getting paid what, how money was being handled in relation to a project’s budget, and how the nitty-gritty details of a deal might’ve play into Mo’Nique’s career.

However, what we can determine from Mo’Nique is that she unequivocally forced us to talk about money and in a way that included Black people and Black women. This is something to be praised because how can we as a people anticipate a healthy future if we’re not financially stable or given what we’re owed. I’m glad Mo’Nique let us into grown folks business publicly and hopefully, the conversation will continue.

Stars Of ‘Dora The Explorer’ Film Reveal Scariest Scenes And What They’d Put In Dora’s Backpack

Last week BOSSIP’s Senior Content Director Janeé Bolden headed to Miami for the premiere of Paramount’s new film ‘Dora and the Lost City Of Gold’. Check out her exclusive interview with Isabela Moner, who played Dora and Jeff Wahlberg, who played Diego below:

We had such a ball chatting with Jeff and Isabela. We also caught up with Jeff at the premiere’s green carpet, where he discussed being part of the famous Wahlberg family (his uncles are entertainers Donnie and Mark Wahlberg) and filming in Australia.

After telling Jeff we’d heard he had a few famous uncles he laughed and said, “One or two.” We asked about the pressure to carry on the family legacy but Wahlberg told us, “I try not to think about it a lot, it’s special. They’re definitely an inspiration.”

We also asked him about filming in Australia, since the film is set in Los Angeles in Peru and Wahlberg told us it was a great time.

“It just felt like a bunch of Latin people, a bunch of Brown people – just took over Australia,” Wahlberg, whose mom is from the Dominican Republic, told BOSSIP. “Australia is such a beautiful country, nice people, it’s so clean and most of it is so untouched. We had a blast and I really enjoyed it.”

Gotta love it! Check out ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ in theaters August 9th!

Gamora’s Indifference To Tony Stark‘s Endgame Death Sparks Hilarity

We are now living in a world without Tony Stark. The beloved inventor who became Iron Man selflessly sacrificed his life for the greater good in Avengers Endgame and many fans are still mourning his inevitable death.

Gamora could give a f**k less.

Today, Marvel unleashed a super sad deleted scene of the Avengers’ reactions in moments immediately following Tony’s death and, well, Gamora was there but she wasn’t exactly *present*…

Shawty just dipped off like her Uber had just arrived and she didn’t wanna get charged that lil punk a$$ fee they try to charge you after 2 minutes.

Gamora’s apathy quickly became the stuff of social media enjoyment.

Flip the page for many, many, MANY more laughs at dead Tony Stark’s expense.

Kendrick Lamar And Whitney Alford Welcome Their First Child

Congratulations are in order for Kendrick Lamar and his longtime love Whitney Alford!

The couple welcomed their first child together on Friday, July 26, Us Weekly confirmed.

A source told the mag that the 33-year-old makeup artist gave birth to a baby girl last night. Kendrick is known for being quiet about his private life, so it’s really no surprise that he didn’t announce his high school sweetheart’s pregnancy ahead of their daughter’s arrival.

Even though he doesn’t give the public much info about what’s going on back at home, the Pulitzer Prize winner did acknowledge his was engagement while promoting To Pimp a Butterfly on The Breakfast Club back in April of 2015.

“At the end of the day, you want to always, always have real people around you, period. Whether it’s male or female, and everybody that’s been around me, they’ve been around since day one,” Kendrick said when being asked about Alford. “I always show respect when respect has been given, and people that have been by your side, you’re supposed to honor that.”

The couple met while attending Centennial High School in Compton, California and have been together ever since.

Fans noticed a few months ago that this 2 year stretch has been the longest we’ve gone without a new Kendrick Lamar album since his debut–but it looks like this new bundle of joy could be part of the reason why. After touring for what seems like forever following the release of DAMN, Kung Fu Kenny definitely deserves a break and some time off with family.

Big congrats to the new parents!

US-POLITICS-TRUMP-WORKERS-LABOR-LABOUR

Racist President Donald Trump took to Twitter to update us on his “negotiations” to get A$AP Rocky released from a Swedish prison. It’s not looking good for the Harlem rapper as the bumbling POTUS with the obviously suspect negotiation skills basically said Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven curved him.

Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky,” tweeted Trump today (July 25).

He added, “Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky.”

First of all, we know that Chump was doing Rocky no favors as soon as he mentioned his name. Everything Cheeto does is transactional, so anyone with sense knows he’s only taking up this task for the sake of saying he isn’t racist because he helped the Black guy.

First of all, Black people aren’t a monolith, so plenty will give no f*cks about what favors Trump pulled for Rocky. Also, Trump is still a racist, so there’s that. Also, “our African American Community” as if we are chattel is piss poor word choice, especially from the Bigot In Chief.

Every passing day it’s looking like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian did more harm than good bringing this to Trump’s attention because Sweden’s PM clearly isn’t trying to look like a corrupt government official.

Free A$AP Rocky, though. Most recently, A$AP Rocky was formally charged with criminal assault. If convicted, he faces up to 2 years in jail.

Man, there’s a lot of drama going on and we millennials are happy to say that, for once, we are not the perpetrators. In case you missed it, Nicole Murphy got caught kissing on Antoine Fuqua who, last we heard, was married to throwback baddie Lela Rochon. Nicole has since apologized, but that didn’t stop LisaRaye — another baddie from the ’90s – from calling Nicole out as a homewrecker.

“She messed around with my husband,” Raye told TMZ. “We’ve all done something we regret but when you do it and start being messy enough to do it to family?! I don ‘t know if she’s a homewrecker or not but I know what she’s doing to homes is wrecking it.”

“I’ve been in that situation before—but amongst friends?! I definitely confronted her, she know it. I ain’t got sh*t to say to Nicole,” Raye added.

Sheesh. Elsewhere, Mo’Nique is also the talk of the town after she aired Whoopi Goldberg out for not caring about the next generation of entertainers.

“So when I get Whoopi Goldberg on the flip saying, ‘fu** them little ones coming behind you, you better give a damn about you,’ that crushed me that day in her dressing room because see Whoopi Golderg told me the salary she makes from The View and that hurt my feelings that you’ve been there for ten years and you accept them paying you that and you telling me ‘don’t worry about the little one coming up?,’” Mo’Nique said in THIS CLIP.

Despite the drama, these are some amazing Black women who’ve accomplished a lot for themselves over the years and looked good doing it! So which bad Black auntie are you? Take our quiz below to find out.

Fabolous & Emily B Breakup

Things are a wrap between Fabolous and Emily B. After dating for well over a decade the couple’s quietly split, reports TMZ. Sources tell them that the split happened very recently and Fab is “actively dating other people.”
It’s unsure if Emily B is out pursuing other relationships herself.

Prior to their split Fab pleaded guilty to one count of harassment and copped to threatening Emily and her father with a pair of scissors outside of their northern New Jersey home.
BOSSIP broke the news that he’s currently in a pre-trial intervention program that if successfully completes will lead to his charges will being thrown out and his criminal record wiped clean.

We reported that he initially faced up to 20 years in state prison after prosecutors accused him of punching Emily B so hard that her front teeth had to be removed. Days later, a video emerged of the father of two brandishing a sharp object at his partner and her father and threatening to kill them.

Emily doesn’t look bothered by their split, she’s currently on a Girls Trip to the Bahamas.

Jay-Z continues to be a boss in the music and movie world with more behind the scenes work. Now, the rapper and executive is dipping his hand in an upcoming revenge flick for Netflix.

According to Shadow and Act, the streaming site is producing The Harder They Fall starring Jonathan Majors, who’s best known for his role in the acclaimed movie The Last Black Man in San Francisco.

In The Harder They Fall, Majors will play Nat Love, an outlaw who seeks revenge once he learns that the man who murdered his parents 20 years ago is about to be released from prison. Love brings his old gang back together to hunt down the killer.

The movie will be directed by Jeymes Samuel, who worked with Jay on The Great Gatsby soundtrack under the pseudonym The Bullits. Jay-Z will serve as a producer on the movie along with Samuel, Lawrence Bender and James Lassiter, who’s long been associated with some of Will Smith‘s well known movies.

Majors will surely bring his talent to this new flick, considering his Oscar-worthy performance in The Last Black Man in San Francisco. He seems to be keeping a busy schedule with his next project being Jordan Peele and Misha Green‘s HBO series Lovecraft Country. Majors also just wrapped Spike Lee‘s 2020 feature Da 5 Bloods with Chadwick Boseman and Delroy Lindo. That film will also hit Netflix in the near future.

A star on the rise, no doubt. Jigga continues to stay near future talent.

Porsha Williams Shows Off Snapback, Shouts Out Dennis McKinley

Porsha Williams is showing off her post-baby baaaawdy for the gram. Baby Pilar Jhena’s mom previously said that she was “taking her time” snapping back after giving birth in April.

“I’ve done the opposite of what people do when they get shamed online. They hide because you shame them,” Williams said. “I actually post pictures with fitting clothes, still showing my postpartum body. I’m proud of it. I’m going to bounce back naturally, and I’m not going to stress myself.”

Now she’s showing fans the results of her snapback while admitting that she still has a postpartum FUPA.

“However lately I’ve decided to start eating healthy and drinking a gang of water and I actually can see some early changes in my body. I really don’t believe in the snap back thing for me too much or put pressure on myself… I’m just celebrating me starting to FEEL like myself again after childbirth. I still don’t think I’m ready to start working out so I’ll probably wait another month to get in gym so for now it’s just portion control and good food choices.

[…]
P.s: Yes I still have a FUPA and I love it!!”

In addition to flaunting her FUPA Porsha also graciously gave someone else some shine on her own page. Porsha sweetly sent a public “Happy Birthday” to her ex-fiance Dennis McKinley.

As previously reported Porsha and Dennis split after 8-months of engagement and their fallout will be shown on RHOA season 12.

Nicole Murphy Apologizes For Kissing Married Director Antoine Fuqua

Nicole Murphy is saying ‘sorry’ to Lela Rochon and the rest of the Fuqua’s for THAT embarrassing “kissing” scandal.

Nicole was snapped smooching it up with Antoine Fuqua, who is 19 years into a marriage with Lela Rochon. The photos triggered reactions from fans (and some celebrities) disappointed in Fuqua and Murphy for being so brazen with it. In her initial statement, Nicole said she was just being “friendly”, sharing tounge and spit with an old friend.

Fans wondered if Lela and Antoine were separated, or if Nicole knowingly slid in between their vows. From her statement to TMZ, it seems like she too was blind-sighted by Antoine’s relationship status.

“Without going into the entire situation, I want to apologize to my family, and to Lela and the Fuqua family for what transpired.

It was not my intention to be in this situation. I do not condone women kissing or interacting in any way inappropriately with a married man. I too was once married and I would never intentionally undermine another woman, despite what has been written.

Nicole is saying she never intended to kiss a married man. Do YOU believe her?
