A Chinese rapper –– reportedly known for his ability to freestyle — was accused of sleeping and flirting with his fans, then allegedly cyber-bullied over the scandal. Several outlets report, that to prove his innocence, he severed his own finger while livestreaming.

“HHH (红花会 Hónghuāhuì), one of China’s most prominent hip-hop record labels, has shut down its operations after one of its artists, MC BeiBei, a.k.a. “贝爷” (bèi yé), cut off the tip of his pinky finger during a live stream,” Supchina.com reports. “The incident happened on August 6, when the 24-year-old rapper, whose real name is Lǐ Jīngzé 李京泽 and is best known for his freestyle battle skills in China’s underground hip-hop scene, was doing a live video chat on the live-streaming site yizhibo.com. Judging from the clip, the conversation started with MC BeiBei sharing some innocuous updates about his recent activities with his followers, but it quickly spun out of control after some viewers, presumably the rapper’s diehard fans who monitor his news closely, asked him to respond to the rumors that he had flirted and slept with some fans.”

Apparently, the rapper became “agitated” and said “I’ll chop off my finger to prove my innocence.”

“He then turned away from the camera, but some chopping sounds could be heard. A few seconds later, he returned and that the tip of his little finger had indeed been cut off. While his pinky bleeds profusely, MC BeiBei appears calm and shows no signs of pain,” the site continues.

According Supchina, HHH told Sina News MC BeiBei suffers from hyperthyroidism, which causes him to experience mood swings at times. MCBeiBei’s account was suspended and he was sent to the hospital.

“The incident has had intense negative reverberations in the hip-hop community in China. A source close to Billboard says the Chinese Association of Performing Arts has since issued a list of banned rappers, including their ID numbers,” Billboard states.

Unbelievable.

Red Bull Dance Your Style

The energy was thick with excitement this past Saturday as dancers from around the country gathered for the first Red Bull Dance Your Style competition in New Orleans.

With the advent of social media, dance has received more attention outside of the usual music videos or music artist performances. Viral challenges like the “In My Feelings” challenge or the “Before I Let Go” challenge have gotten worldwide recognition. Major choreographers like Aliya Michelle have also gained followers thanks to their videos uploaded to YouTube garnering millions of views.

But even with all these platforms at people’s disposal, it can still be challenging getting recognition as a dancer, especially if you specialize in a specific style. If you’re and expert popper, you might be a star within the poppin’ community and if you kill at memphis jookin’, then surely all the aspiring jookers know your name. But where can you go if you want to expand your audience or utilize all the different styles you know while still staying true to your foundation?

This is where competitions like Red Bull Dance Your Style come in. Dancers face each other one-on-one and the winner is determined by the crowd. Thus, the competition isn’t excessively focused on technicality but on who can truly put on a show. This forces dancers to dip into their toolbox of skills for the best performance. One Dance Your Style competitor Steven Kador a.k.a. Tha 3dge explained:

“I started out poppin’ and then from there, the more I traveled, I kind of like picked up different things from the styles of each region. Like, I went to Memphis and kind of got into the whole jookin’ culture. I’ve been to Chicago, Nashville. So I pulled from the parts that I liked from each area, and I kind of built my style the way I want to do it.”

Red Bull Dance Your Style has had U.S. qualifier events in Honolulu, Washington D.C., Miami, Boston and of course New Orleans. The top two winners from each event will go on to compete in the U.S. National Final in Las Vegas on September 28. Whoever is crowned the winner here will advance to the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Paris, France in October.

Each competition is anchored in the culture of the region, so considering New Orleans is known for its bounce music, it was only right that Big Freedia and her amazing dancers made an appearance. As expected, she put on a stellar show.

Along with Freedia’s high energy performance, the DJ kept the dancers and the audience engaged with a mixture of old gems and new school hits. You haven’t experienced a good time until you’ve watched dancers like Tha 3dge pop to Blueface‘s “Thotiana” or Ashly Winn a.k.a. Sheik Winn show off her waacking skills to Boosie Badazz‘s “Wipe Me Down.”

Eventually, the night came to an end when the two finalists, Marquez Alexander a.k.a. Spider and Nick Fury faced off. Fury represented for New Orleans while Spider hailed from Memphis, Tennessee. You can only imagine the fireworks that erupted when the two showcased their creativity to songs like Juvenile‘s “Back That Azz Up.”

But in the end, Spider took home the crown, despite both of them advancing to compete in Las Vegas. He was visibly filled with emotions for a win many dancers dream about when battling a worthy opponent. When asked about his success, Spider had simple words:

“I’m blessed and highly favored.”

Hopefully, more wins like this are captured as Red Bull Dance Your Style makes its way to Paris and beyond.

Today, four seems to be the lucky number thanks to some major season renewals for FX shows.

First, Snowfall will receive a fourth season, according to Shadow and Act. The news was announced on Tuesday just weeks after the third season premiered. The drama series — created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron — follows the rise of drug kingpin Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris) and the coinciding crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles.

The presidents of FX Entertainment’s Original Programming, Nick Grad and Gina Balian, explained:

Snowfall has continued its creative leap forward this season with the hard work and contributions of John Singleton and the brilliant performance of Damson Idris. We are grateful to Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Michael London, Trevor Engelson and Walter Mosley for honoring John’s legacy through their commitment to building on the artistic excellence of Snowfall with a fourth season on FX.”

Meanwhile, the beloved Donald Glover series Atlanta will also come back for a fourth season…and the third season hasn’t even started production yet.

Similar to season three, the fourth season will have eight episodes. Both seasons are expected to be shot in Spring 2020, supposedly making use of the stars’ availability.

Eric Schrier, President of FX Entertainment, told Shadow and Act:

“What more can be said about Atlanta than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television. This group of collaborators and cast have created one of the most original, innovative stories of this generation and we are proud to be their partners.”

It seems we’ll get more laughs and weirdness out of Earn (Donald Glover) and Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) — two cousins trying to navigate adulthood and the music scene in Atlanta.

Can’t wait!

Red Bull Dance Your Style has been an ongoing competition across major U.S. cities where dancers showcase their unique ways of moving while audience members decide who has the best performance. The winners will compete in the U.S. National Final in Las Vegas for a chance to compete in the World Final in Paris, France in October. When the competition stopped by New Orleans, it was only right that bounce music made an appearance and who better to represent for the culture than the Queen Diva herself, Big Freedia.

Considering bounce music’s rich history and the twerk dancing that accompanies it, you’d think that someone would represent their booty-shaking abilities in the competition. But if you let Big Freedia tell it, twerking requires more skill than you’d imagine.

Before her high energy performance, I talked with the New Orleans native who continues to set the bar for herself even after a successful reality show, a Guinness World Record, and a collaboration with Beyoncé and Drake. Freedia has some major projects in the works and she also has a few thoughts when it comes to gyrators like Odell Beckham Jr. and “Twerk” video stars like City Girls. Similar to past critical comments about Miley Cyrus‘ twerking, Freedia won’t hold her tongue when it comes to the celebrated artform.

Thank you for talking with us, first of all.

No problem.

So starting off, Odell Beckham Jr. — a New Orleans native — recently did an interview with GQ where he had to address speculation that he was gay, mostly because of videos he’s taken or because of how he always dances with guy friends…

Why? ‘Cause in New Orleans we bounce. The boys show the hustle. All the stuff that Odell do, all the boys do here and you don’t have to question their sexuality because it’s apart of the culture. It’s not like he’s up there shaking his ass, so I don’t see what’s wrong with it.

Were there any men you looked up to growing up who kind of helped you be more free or was it always just a culture thing?

Definitely. I mean, all the guys who danced for DJ Jubilee, they would twerk. They would like really pop like girls and get on their heads and put their legs in the air. They took it to the next level. And I was like man, if these boys can get out here and do it, everybody should feel okay. And the boys had many girlfriends, they had all the h*s behind them (laughter). That’s who gave a lot of inspiration to a lot of us in New Orleans.

Is there anyone currently who would go in your twerk hall of fame?

Everybody loves Megan Thee Stallion. I mean, I haven’t really seen Meg twerk but once on Instagram. But yea she would get the title right now. It sure ain’t the City Girls. I mean they just don’t twerk. They got a hot song but they don’t twerk.

Even with Cardi B in the “Twerk” video?

I mean I love Cardi. She twerks down. Yea, that’s my girl.

Are you interested in doing more T.V. and movies?

Most definitely. I’m working on getting back to my T.V. world. I just went and had a lot of meetings for my new shows that I’m pitching.

If someone was to do the Big Freedia movie, who would you want in your cast? Or who would be the writer and director?

All the best. I mean you know, if it’s something epic like that, you want to have the best of the best. I am working on the Big Freedia stage play so that’s the first thing before we get to the movie.

Any more details you can spill on that?

Amazing cast. I just did a casting call with all the amazing cast. I’m really excited about this. I was in tears crying. I don’t know if you saw it when I posted it on Instagram, but that day I did it, they had me in tears. It was very powerful and it’ll touched a lot of people.

And lastly, how do you feel about Red Bull Dance Your Style coming to New Orleans and what do you look forward to the most tonight?

I mean I love Red Bull. They support everything that I do. They always support music and they’re always pushing music, which is a great thing. And tonight I’m expecting to see some amazing dancers and to have a good time and to turn out.

The fact that the World Wide Web turns 28 years old today either means Millennials are getting old, the Internet is young as hell in the grand scheme of things, or that so much has happened in those 28 years that it feels like we’ve been surfing the web for a lifetime. Which is low key kind of the case if you’re 28 and younger.

On August 6, 1991 British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee published the first-ever website while working at a huge particle physics lab in Switzerland. Berners-Lee observed how tough it was to keep track of the projects and computer systems of the lab’s thousands of researchers, who were spread around the globe; so he created a solution.

Then by the end of 1990, Lee, using a Steve Jobs-designed NeXT computer, developed the key technologies that are the bedrock of the Web, including Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), for creating Web pages and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Thus the first ever website was born and the beginning of the Web as a publicly available service on the Internet arrived on August 6, 1991.

Internet aside, the world was a very different place back then than it is now. Sure the web has many percs, like keeping people in the know, getting information instantly, and staying connected to people from all across the globe. However, people did actually communicate verbally back then. Looked folks in the eyes while walking down the street, instead of having their head down on the phones. SMH.

But different things for different generations I guess. Interestingly enough, the birth of the web wasn’t the most riveting thing about that year:

A gallon of gas in 1991 was just $1.12.

The average monthly rent for Americans was $495.00, compared to 2019 where the average American’s monthly rent is $1,085.

One of the most popular cases of Police Brutality was recorded on video camera in the case of Rodney King.

Whitney Houston owned the music charts.

George H.W. Bush was President.

And Donald Trump was exposed as his own PR guy.

Looks some things don’t change after all. SMH.  At least we got Black Twitter out of all this. Thanks, Mr. Lee.

Jodie Turner-Smith Lunches In Beverly Hills with Joshua Jackson

Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson Spotted At Courthouse Possibly Picking Up Marriage License

In the short time that we’ve been following their romance, people seem genuinely interested in “When They See Us” actor Joshua Jackson and his gorgeous girlfriend, model/actress Jodie Turner-Smith, who will make her feature film debut in ‘Queen & Slim‘ this Thanksgiving. So we were excited to learn that Jackson and Turner-Smith may soon be tying the knot.

According to Daily Mail reports Joshua and Jodie were spotted getting what appeared to be a marriage license in Beverly Hills from a courthouse on Friday. Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days, so it’s looking likely they’ll be man and wife before her first film hits theaters.

The couple, who have been dating since being introduced at Usher’s 40th birthday bash last fall aren’t immune to tabloid troubles. In June, US Weekly published photos of Jackson smooching a mystery woman he was dropping off at LAX. Clearly he’s been able to work things out with Jodie since then, we’re definitely hoping the relationship is in a healthy space before swirly matrimony-dom commences!

Congrats to Josh and Jodie. Wishing y’all the best.

R Kelly Returns To Court For Hearing On Aggravated Sexual Abuse Charges

R. Kelly Charged With Two Sex Crimes In Minnesota

The mountain of depravity that bum a$$, *alleged* predator a$$, broke a$$ R. Kelly built over decades is continuing to avalanche down on him.

According to TMZ, Robert is being charged with engaging in prostitution with someone under 18, and hiring/offering/agreeing to hire someone for sexual contact for paying a girl between the ages of 16 and 17 for sexual contact in his hotel room back on July 11, 2001.

The Minnesota prosecutor, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, says that the woman approached police on January 11, 2019 to filed a report. Just three days after Cook County prosecutor Kim Foxx made a public plea for other accusers to come forward.

Word is that the then-teen asked Kelly for an autograph and he then paid her $200 to dance naked for him. They did not have sexual intercourse, but there was sexual contact.

Robert is facing five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
