Former NFL Star Allegedly Stages Fake Hate Crime

Former Washington Redskins player, Edawn Louis Coughman, was arrested on Thursday after police say he staged a racially-motivated burglary inside his Georgia restaurant. One day prior to the arrest, police were dispatched to “Create and Bake Restaurant” and “Coughman’s Creamery”, after a maintenance worker at the shopping plaza where Coughman’s establishment is located called about someone burglarizing the restaurant around 9:30 p.m.

Once officers entered the former NFL star’s spot, they found several racially-motivated words and symbols spray-painted on the walls and doors including the word “MAGA”. Police also found several booth cushions sliced open, broken mirrors, cut wires and damaged surveillance system. Shortly after, local police spotted a black truck without a license plate and pulled it over thinking it could be a possible suspect — turns out, it was Coughman driving the vehicle. He told them he noticed the damage and called his insurance company but did not call 911.

Upon further investigation, the lead detective on the case sensed that something was suspicious about Coughman, so they arrested him and impounded his vehicle. In the truck, police found a crow bar used to pry open the back door of his business as well as several cans of black spray paint. According to Gwinnett County Police,

Coughman conjured a premeditated plan to collect insurance money from his damaged business, disguising it as a hate crime, and selling off the undamaged electronics found in his truck.

Coughman has been charged with false report of a crime, insurance fraud and concealing a license plate. He bonded out of jail shortly after, but is expected to appear in court sometime soon.

Language learning has come a long way since the time you were struggling to differentiate cabello and caballo (for what it’s worth, cabello means hair while cabello means horse) in high school Spanish. You no longer have to resort to sitting in a classroom and listening to a teacher drone on and on about words you don’t recognize and probably won’t retain later on. Now, you can choose from a slew of different apps depending on how you like to learn.

If you’re the type of person who absorbs more from hearing how native speakers talk, you’ll find the uTalk Language Education program helpful in making you fluent in a second, third, fourth, or even fifth language. Whoa… Talk about drama!

Here’s what else you can expect from the episode:

Melody surprises her hairstylist friend when she tells her she is planning for divorce, and recalls kicking Martell out of the house. Martell has a different point of view of course, and tells his friend Neville that Melody gave him the option of moving upstairs instead of out of the house. He’s insistent upon saving his relationship with his family as the Holts promote their “Power Duo” cover issue of iPush magazine despite their personal issues. On the other side of town, Maurice and Kimmi talk about Monster coming for his visit for the summer. Maurice is hoping to get Monster full-time, but Kimmi isn’t sure Maurice has the time to commit to raising a young boy. Meanwhile, Kiuwha, Maurice’s ex-wife, is not on board with Monster moving in with Maurice which Kimmi understands from a mother’s perspective. Finally, a good college buddy of the guys, Ceddaric, tells Marsau that Martell is upset with him, and problems bubble to the surface when Martell accuses Marsau of infidelity. Marsau decides to get ahead of the rumor, and shocks LaTisha when he tells her that Martell has accused him of having twenty girlfriends.

Episode 110: Martell It Like It Is airs Saturday, September 14th at 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.

Former Ohio Teenager Acquitted On Charges Of Murdering Her Newborn baby

20-year old Brooke Skylar Richardson was found not guilty on Friday after being accused of killing her newborn baby and burying her in the backyard. The former Ohio cheerleader was acquitted on three serious charges, including aggravated murder and involuntary manslaughter — however, the jury did find her guilty of gross abuse of a corpse which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

According to reports, the defense team argued during the trial that Richardson, who was a high school cheerleader at the time, was scared because the baby, which she named Annabelle, was stillborn. Meanwhile, prosecutors suggested that Richardson killed her baby and then buried the body in the backyard of her family’s home in Carlisle, Ohio days after her high school prom because she did not want to “ruin her perfect life”.

Assistant prosecutor Steven Knippen said in court:

“Shortly, after murdering her daughter and placing her daughter in the dirt, and not even having the decency to cover it with a blanket, she sent two elated text messages: My belly is back, my belly is back.”

The shocking verdict came after an eight-day trial during which jurors had to decide whether Richardson was just a frightened 17-year old who experienced a stillbirth or “a cold-blooded murderer”; and they chose the latter. The young defendant was sentenced to three years of basic supervision but will serve no more jail time. As part of the sentence she was set to spend seven days in the county jail, but Warren County Judge Donald Oda II credited her with time already served.

Meanwhile, there are women of color sitting in jail for crimes they actually didn’t do. SMH. This story totally reeks of White privilege.

Antonio Brown Will Play Sunday Amid Rape Allegations

Antonio Brown‘s shenanigans in NFL locker rooms and social media are comical now in comparison to the trouble that he now finds himself in. Just a few days ago, Britney Howard came forward to publicly accuse Antonio Brown of rape and other sexual assaults via a federal civil lawsuit.

After all the talk that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has done about the league’s responsibility to protect women from their abusive players in the wake of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, would Antonio Brown be allowed to suit up on Sunday?

Yes. Yes he will.

According to ESPN, the NFL will not place Brown on the Commissioner’s exempt list and thus will be lining up to catch passes from Tom Brady against the Miami Dolphins Sunday afternoon.

In case you hadn’t read them, here are the emails that Antonio is accused of sending outside of the forcible rape that Britney claims he enacted against her.

Yet and still, Brown will be suited and booted for Belichick and his boys.

On Wednesday, Belichick wouldn’t commit to Brown playing, saying the team was taking it “day to day.” Since then, Brown has participated in two practices — with a third to come later Friday — and has impressed his new teammates.

“AB is AB. We all know what he brings to the table. Excited to have him here,” safety Duron Harmon said, adding: “He’s doing everything the right way.”

Of course, “the right way”…

Felicity Huffman Has Been Sentenced To 2 Weeks in Prison

Felicity Huffman has finally been sentenced for her role in the nationwide college admissions scandal.

According to reports from TMZ, the Desperate Housewives actress was sentenced to only 14 days in prison on Friday in a Boston federal courtroom.

“I am deeply sorry to the students, parents, colleges and universities impacted by my actions,” she said during the hearing. “I have inflicted more damage (on her daughter) than I could’ve ever imagined. I was frightened, I was stupid and I was so wrong. I am deeply ashamed of what I have done.”

This sentencing comes about a week after news that prosecutors recommended a month behind bars, arguing that house arrest at a luxurious pad is far from being a punishment. The actress’ legal team was pushing for no prison time after Huffman admitted to paying a proctor $15,000 to inflate her daughter’s SAT scores.

The 56-year-old will begin her sentence on October 25 and in addition to the prison time, she was fined $30,000, received a year of supervised release, and has been ordered to complete 250 hours of community service.

Though the high-profile actress receiving any jail time is relatively shocking, 14 days is nothing compared to sentences for those like Tanya McDowell, the black mother serving 12 years for sending her child to school in a better district.

Are we surprised? No. Are we disappointed? Absolutely.

This week we want to highlight one of our favorite celebrity dads, Chance The Rapper. Recently welcoming a second child into his beautiful family, he announced this week that he would be postponing his upcoming tour to be the best father and husband he can be. In a viral message posted to Instagram, Chance pretty much said he knows better so he’s going to do better.

I thought it over for the past week and I’ve decided to push back my tour,” he announced. “This year has been one of the greatest of my life; Marriage, new baby, first album etc. But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work. When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months of raising Kensli and Marli. I apologize because I know how many people were counting on seeing me soon, but I hope you’ll understand and forgive me in time. Tour kicks off Jan. 15th and you can still get tix or your refund if you are unavailable at chanceraps.com & a few of the shows are still being rescheduled as well so stay tuned. I love you guys AND LITERALLY CANT WAIT FOR U TO WITNESS THIS SHOW.”
