The queen of all things received her trophy at the annual Creative Arts Emmys ceremony for her work narrating the National Geographic series Queens. She took home the “Best Narrator” honors, marking her very first win in over 30 years.

“It feels good; really, really good,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you to National Geographic, Wild Star Film, and all the directors — all women — who brought this incredible story, this incredible docuseries centered on the ferocious and magnificent things in the animal kingdom. I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful.”

The seven-part series is all about the matriarchies that exist throughout the animal kingdom and featured an all-female production team, which Bassett said was “one of the big draws and highlights” of the project she nearly turned down.

“It was summertime. It was hiatus [for 9-1-1]. It had been a long season. I was looking forward to going on vacation, spending time with the family, and downtime from work because it’s a continuous roller coaster,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “But they came back around and sent me the sizzle reel and I said, ‘OK, let me put my full attention on this for a moment and see what the project is exactly.’ Once I did that, it didn’t pass me by.”

In response to the award being her first, our ever-gracious monarch evoked gratitude for the moment and all the creatives who worked on the project.

“We don’t work for these, but we receive them for all the hard work that we do,” she said after her win. “Of course, it’s not work that you do alone, even though it’s a narration, but there’s a whole team that pursued me and believed in me, fought for me, and worked with me to tell this amazing story of females in the wild kingdom, led by an all-female-led production team team, a first in wildlife documentary filmmaking. So that was pretty inspiring to me in and of itself.”

Dame Dash is owning his flaws after he accidentally revealed that he is missing several front teeth. Dash’s teeth became a focal point after his grills fell out while he was on Instagram Live. However, the businessman is not dismayed as he later discusses the mishap in a separate IG live session.

Stoop Talk With Dame Dash

We may have 50 Cent to thank for this viral moment! On September 4, Dash took to Instagram Live to challenge the “Many Men” rapper to a “CEO war.” This came after 50 Cent joined the Million Dollaz Worth of Game and stated that Dash was broke.

In response to the G-Unit rapper, Dash began pitting his streaming service, American Nu Network, against 50’s Action Network.

“I wanna see how real it is,” he stated. “I wanna see your television network. I wanna see you direct a movie. I wanna see your clothing line. I wanna see if you the real deal.”

As he was about to take a sip of his drink, Dash’s teeth grills shockingly fell out of his mouth. To avoid further embarrassment, Dash turned the camera and adjusted his teeth. Still, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder didn’t find the moment overly embarrassing as he later posted the clip, poking fun at himself.

In the caption, he wrote, “My diamond grills popped out because that’s what happens when you’re broke.”

While most people would find this moment to be super awkward, Dame Dash is not concerned. A few days after the mishap, he joined Instagram Live again to explain. He was sure to clarify that he does not wear dentures.

“First of all, s**t is not dentures. These are my grills,” he asserted. “What happened was I have to go get implants put in ’cause I have implants. And I got them 20 years ago, and every 20 years, you gotta switch them out. So I have to do surgery—pause—oral.”

In a rather bold move, Dash then removed his grills so everyone could get a better look at his missing front teeth. He also stated that he thought it was pretty funny.

“I thought it was hilarious,” he stated.

To add more hilarity to the situation, when filmmaker Bryan Barber later joined the live session, Dash referred to Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us.”

“Sometimes you gotta pop out on n*****.”

Dash also used the opportunity to promote his streaming network further. He also stated that he was glad the moment led to 50 Cent responding to him.

Brian McKnight joins Boyz II Men Performing In London

Source: Joseph Okpako / Getty

Brian McKnight is determined to prove that he doesn’t have his biological children’s pictures in frames nor hear their footsteps down the hall with his latest “Fatherhood” series.

Brian flagrantly falsetto fueled the diabolical “deadbeat” allegations and premiered a new weekly segment on his Instagram page called Fatherhood Fridays. The series will go in-depth about his relationship with his wife, Leilani, and her two biological children, Julia and Jack. He also doubles down on his claims that their newest son, named Brian Jr., is the result of true love and not sin, unlike the four children from his previous relationship.

“Fatherhood Fridays is about how when you do things the right way, with God on your side, with the person made for you, that happiness and joy you feel will be greater than anything you could’ve ever imagined,” Brian said.

He went on to say that throughout the course of his 10-year relationship with Leilani, he proudly parented her children with the blessing of their biological father.

What is a part of her is a part of me also. I have my own personal father-daughter and father-son relationships with them, and as their father, I have the privilege of loving them, molding them, guiding them, and nurturing them alongside their mom,” he said. “And bringing them to adulthood, frankly, has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life.”

Mmm.

There was no mention of his other four children—the first Brian Jr., Niko, Briana, and Clyde—in his intro video to the series. Surprise, surprise! However, he did take the opportunity to throw shade their way, saying,

“They gave me the gift of true fatherhood. They are mine; I am theirs. What we have is symbiotic. They nurture me as much as I nurture them. See, there’s a huge difference when a man is a father out of choice and desire and not out of obligation and that’s what ‘Fatherhood Fridays’ is all about, the joys of fatherhood.”

Disgusted former fans put the sinister singer on blast for flaunting his new family while his biological son Niko fights cancer.

McKnight doesn’t seem phased by losing longtime fans and the backlash repeatedly leading to canceled shows. He must be fine with starting back at one. After all, he did the same with his family.

Shooting At Apalachee High School In Winder, Georgia Leaves 4 Dead

Harford County Teen Had 10 Police Contacts Before Killing Classmate, Echoing Apalachee High Incident

It has happened again: Another #schoolshooting. This time, the tragedy took place at Joppatowne High School in Maryland, leaving a community reeling after a 16-year-old suspected shooter killed 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant inside a school bathroom on Friday.

According to Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, the suspect had 10 prior contacts with law enforcement over the past two years. Yet, these interactions failed to prevent him from committing this fatal act.

Similarly to the recent shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, where four students were killed just days earlier, these cases are at the hands of students–children. Previously reported by BOSSIP, in that GA case the suspect’s father was arrested on second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges after authorities determined he failed to secure the firearms his son used in the shooting.

Both incidents raise the same difficult question: even if we pass stricter gun control laws, will they be effective without consistent enforcement?

Sheriff Gahler Calls Out Maryland Laws

During a press conference, CBS Baltimore reports Sheriff Gahler voiced his frustration with the state’s laws that prevented him from interviewing the suspect immediately after the shooting.

“We have a person who we’re going to be charging as an adult for committing a heinous crime in a school, and we’re not allowed to talk to him. That is lunacy,” Gahler said.

Despite 10 prior police contacts, no meaningful intervention occurred to prevent this tragic event. WQAD states that the sheriff emphasized that while the suspect is a juvenile, he will be charged as an adult due to the severity of the crime.

As with the Apalachee High School case, authorities are left grappling with how a teenager gained access to a firearm, once again highlighting the enforcement gap in gun control measures.

Community In Shock: “This Should Not Be Happening”

CBS Baltimore reports that Harford County Schools Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson shared words of concern during a press conference following the incident.

“Our hearts are breaking for the victim and the victim’s family. The circumstances are absolutely terrible, and this should not be happening in schools,” Bulson said.

His remarks capture the shared grief in Joppatowne: the deep sorrow felt by the entire school community, where students and parents are left struggling to make sense of the violence.

https://twitter.com/WMAR2News/status/1832494068468748735

According to CBS Baltimore, one student recalled hearing “a big bang” before running for safety, while others reported being locked down in their classrooms as the chaos unfolded. Parents expressed to their fear and helplessness in protecting their children from a reality that has hit far too close to home.

“You want to lock your children up and keep them safe, but you can’t. You have to send them to school,” one parent told CBS Baltimore.

Gun Control Under Scrutiny: Can Enforcement Keep Up?

While both the Joppatowne and Apalachee High School shootings have reignited calls for stronger gun control measures, the enforcement of these laws remains a critical issue. In both cases, the young shooters gained access to firearms despite clear warning signs, underscoring the need for better preventive action. In WQAD, Sheriff Gahler confirmed that the weapon used in the Joppatowne shooting has not yet been recovered, adding to the complexity of the investigation.

As the debate over gun control intensifies, the demand for tighter regulations grows louder. However, these regulations are only as effective as their enforcement, which both the Joppatowne and Apalachee shootings have shown to be deeply flawed.

With families mourning the loss of young lives, the pressure is on lawmakers and law enforcement to act before another community experiences the same devastating outcome.

Support For Families And Students

In the aftermath of the shooting, WQAD shares that Principal Melissa Williams of Joppatowne High School expressed her heartbreak.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this amazing young man, with all of his friends, with all of our staff members, and with all of our students.”

CBS Baltimore states that “Grief counseling services” have been made available for students, and the school is considering its reopening schedule as the community tries to process the violence that has shattered their sense of safety.

As these unfortunate and horrific events unfold, one thing remains clear: without more robust enforcement of existing laws and better safeguards in place, communities will continue to be at risk of school shootings.

This should not be normal.

On the latest episode of The Braxtons, Trina and Towanda discuss events since their sister Traci’s death in 2022. While the sisters always plan to defend Traci and her wishes, they are clearing the air of misconceptions about their relationships.

After a four-year hiatus, the Braxton sisters return to reality television in their new show, The Braxtons. However, this marks the first time the sisters are recording without Traci since she died after a battle with esophageal cancer. As the sisters continue to grieve and process the death of their sister, more details have surfaced about Traci’s wishes.

In the newly surfaced clip shared with People, Towanda seemingly puts her foot down regarding a production request to feature Traci’s husband, Kevin Surrat, on the show.

“What you really don’t want me to do is tell the truth…Don’t push me,” she told producers.

According to her sisters, before she passed, Traci requested that her family forego a funeral. This sentiment was also expressed in her will. Nevertheless, Surrat held a funeral for his late wife. Many were in attendance, but not the Braxton sisters. Sitting next to her husband, Von, Trina reasoned that they wanted to honor Traci’s wishes.

“We didn’t not go to her funeral. We did not attend that thing that he set, that she did not want,” she clarified.

Towanda also added that Traci even put it in her will that she did not want a funeral service, yet Surrat held one anyway. Because of that, she is not open to having him on the show.

“She said and she put in her will that she did not want a funeral…are you kidding me? But, you want him to be on a goddamn show. Never,” Towanda asserted.

As a result of the Braxton sisters electing not to attend the funeral Surrat held for Traci, many fans may have unknowingly assumed there was a rift in the family. However, Trina and Towanda are straightening out the rumors.

“I always fought for Traci and I’m going to continue fighting for Traci ‘til the day I die and beyond,” Towanda stated.

Trina and Towanda then further clarified that they would never leave their sister. Additionally, they revealed that a narrative of them abandoning Traci persisted. You may recall that when “Braxton Family Values” first aired, Traci was labeled “The Wannabe.”

“When we did Braxton Family Values. When we signed in 2009, and then we came out in 2011, everybody gave Traci that [nickname], they call her the wannabe,” Trina recalled.

Towanda seemingly insinuated that production ran with the narrative that the Braxton sisters left Traci behind after they signed a record deal without her.

“Then, it was played upon is what I’m saying. It was played upon and then it was fed.” Towanda continued, “The whole time everybody has a narrative of we left Traci behind. We signed without Traci — now, that part is true. We did sign without Traci. But, the fact is this. We signed in August. Traci was pregnant with little Kevin. Back in the ‘90s, you could not be a female and be pregnant.”

Trina agreed with Towanda’s sentiments and added that the marketing strategy was that women had to want to be like you, and men had to want to be with you. Towanda also stated that Traci told them to go ahead and sign without her.

Bryonna

Source: Taylor Hill / Getty

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and ’90s fine president, Jalen Hurts, may have just made it official with his girlfriend Bryonna “Bry” Burrows.

A social media user uploaded a photo of Burrows and Hurts sharing a moment before the Eagles season opener against the Green Bay Packers in which the former is rocking a pretty large diamond ring on her left finger.

“Our good sis Bry Burrows got her ring! Congrats to her and Jalen Hurts!,” the post read.

The pair met while students at the University of Alabama and dated off and on before committing for the long haul. Though they keep their relationship pretty private, Hurts did confirm that he was off the market in an ESSENCE interview last year.

“I’m not married or anything like that, but I am spoken for,” he said.

He also gushed about knowing that Burrows was the one for him for a long time.

“I mean, to this point in my life, that’s an irreplaceable feeling. I think that’s what allowed us to get to where we are now.”

If he’s going to break our hearts, at least it’s with a beautiful, educated Black woman. A win is a win!

And speaking of winning, Hurts and his dirty birds took home their first victory of the season in a 34-29 victory over the Packers.

Hurts has a lot to prove this NFL season as he tries to bring the Eagles back to their 2022 Super Bowl glory alongside their newest running back, Saquon Barkley, and receiver AJ Brown. All eyes will be on the quarterback (and not just because he’s as fine as ever) to see if he has what it takes to bring the city of Philadelphia the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy.

In the meantime, we’ll be watching his socials for any confirmation that he is no longer our man, our man, our man. So far, nothing to report.

After months of mourning Love & Marriage: Huntsville star Keke Jabbar and speculation about her death at 42, an autopsy confirmed her cause of death.

reality star KeKe Jabbar from 'Love & Marriage: Huntsville'

Source: KEKE JABBAR / Instagram

The Alabama medical examiner determined that Keke died from carbon monoxide poisoning. TMZ secured a copy of the autopsy report, which states the lab found 64% carboxyhemoglobin in her blood. This compound forms in blood cells when hemoglobin combines with carbon monoxide, which binds 200 times more easily than oxygen.

That deadly amount is 62% higher than the normal level for non-smokers and 59% higher than for smokers. With toxicity this high in Keke’s blood, there was nothing anyone could do by the time she was discovered.

Keke Jabbar’s Official Cause Of Death Matches Initial Statements From The Family

As BOSSIP previously reported, Keke’s husband found her unresponsive in their car in the garage at home in July. The OWN star’s friend, YouTuber JoAnn Jenkins, revealed details about her shocking death in what she called an “official statement” from the family. She initially cited carbon monoxide poisoning, but that was before official confirmation from an autopsy.

“So, seven-something this morning, her husband goes to the garage. He sees Keke, what he thinks is asleep in the car. He tries to get her attention. He opens [the car] up. She isn’t breathing,” Jenkins said.

“Her husband, her life partner, her best friend tried to bring his wife back, the mother of his children, and he couldn’t. Keke passed from carbon monoxide poisoning. That’s it. That is all.  My sister didn’t want to leave this Earth, she didn’t want to leave her kids. She didn’t want to leave her husband. There was no turmoil going on in her life. She had a lot of great things to look forward to,” she stated.

Original LAMH cast member LaTisha Scott requested privacy for her family after the shocking news that her cousin passed away. However, the Keke and Latisha were in a feud that fractured the family amid the ongoing dispute.

Jenkins claimed to have close contact with Keke’s husband and mother, speaking on their behalf. She shared the initial information about the circumstances of Keke’s death to shut down speculation that Keke overdosed or took her own life.

The author openly discussed her recovery and struggles with opioid addiction in the hit reality show. Despite her recent legal and family issues, Jenkins claimed Keke was optimistic about the next chapter of her life.

“Keke did not overdose, Keke did not take her own life. Keke loved life. Keke was not ready to leave life. She wasn’t ready to leave her children, her husband or her family,” the vlogger stated.

The toxicology report noted oxycodone and oxymorphone in Keke’s blood. However, carbon monoxide poisoning undeniably led to her death.

Jenkins went on to describe her friend’s final moments as a freak accident. She noted that the Keke was prone to “go to sleep wherever”  and struggled with normal sleep habits. This was a dangerous and ultimately deadly issue when she claimed Keke was in the garage working on an issue with her car.

Although carbon monoxide poisoning doesn’t definitively answer whether it happened accidentally or intentionally, Jenkins asserted Keke nodded off in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Family Feuding Reportedly Continued As Loved Ones Said Goodbye At Keke Jabbar’s Funeral

At Keke’s funeral, friends and family remembered her loving and generous spirit at a ceremony in Bessemer, AL. In addition to the services, WBRC reports they held a balloon release in her honor outside the Bessemer Recreation Center.

“It warms my heart because Keke was such a loving and fun and loyal person. You know, it’s just been amazing reading all of the memories on Facebook and all of the things that people have been sharing about her, the things that they were to her. It’s just been amazing,” said one of Keke’s best friends from high school, Richelle Craig.

While so many of the educator’s loved ones gathered in her memory, it is unclear whether her castmates attended. A man claiming to be Keke’s uncle spoke out to ask the LAMH cast, including her cousin LaTisha and aunt Wanda, to stay away from the ceremony. He revealed that the show and family fallout tormented Keke in her last months and “did everything possible to push her over the edge.”

“We peaceful people, we don’t want no problems, we don’t want issues. Do not attend any service for my niece. Keep her name out your mouth. Stop going to these bloggers feeding them information about what’s going on because you don’t know what’s going on,” Ellis Dawson said before asking everyone on bad terms with Keke before her death to “keep the same energy you showed when she was alive.”

Our condolences go out to Keke Jabbar’s family and friends. She will be remembered as a vibrant and beloved writer, professor, wife and mother.

Marlon Wayans had the time this week!

Marlon Wayans x Harvey Weinstein

Source: Etienne Laurent-Pool/ Shareif Ziyadat / Getty

During an interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast published on Sep. 4, the legendary comic and director said that he should have sued Harvey Weinstein for allegedly stealing his family’s concepts for the third installment of the Scary Movie franchise.

Thankfully, Wayans did not have to do anything as God ended up serving the infamous Hollywood film producer “revenge” for the numerous rape and sexual charges levied against him in 2020.

“Sometimes you ain’t gotta do nothing because God’s gonna do it all — God’s revenge,” said Wayans.

Released in 2000, Scary Movie was a comedy-horror film crafted by Marlon and Shawn Wayans, directed by their brother Keenan, and produced by Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax. The film’s success led to a total of five sequels. However, according to Wayans, three of the sequels were not directed by the Wayans family due to unsatisfactory deals made by Harvey and Bob Weinstein.

On Wednesday’s, Club Shay Shay, Wayans shared with Sharpe that Miramax offered his family a “crappy” deal for the original film, despite it earning $42 million in its opening week. Although the deal improved somewhat for the second film, negotiations for Scary Movie 3 were challenging. Wayans claimed that Weinstein and his brother refused to offer them a fair deal, leading Miramax to hire the Zucker Brothers to direct the sequel using ideas originally from their family. Wayans said the decision was made without their knowledge.

“God comes for you… all the toxic things you did to me and my family. They took it from us and gave it to somebody else cuz we couldn’t make a deal….. I always say, they didn’t just rape and molest women, they raped [N***] too. Molested us in them deals. They were terrible people.”

Scary Movie 3 Flopped At The Box Office, According To Marlon Wayans

The Weinsteins went on to produce Scary Movie 3 and its subsequent films without the Wayans family’s involvement, but according to the Hollywood legend, the sequels flopped at the box office.

“You can’t do Wayans shit without the Wayans,” Marlon said. “You can try, but eventually you’re gonna lose a lot of money because what we do is special. We have 200 years of comedy between me, Shawn and Keenan. Damon, Kim. We have a lot of years of excellence of what we do. You can’t just put anybody on them.”

The Wayans family went on to create memorable comedies such as White Chicks, Little Man, and the 2013 comedy-horror film A Haunted House, which Wayans claimed that Weinstein attempted to steal ideas from to inject into the storyline for Scary Movie 5, but the effort was unsuccessful. Ultimately, Wayans triumphed by producing A Haunted House on a budget of just $1.5 million, which went on to earn $70 million worldwide.

Wayans remarked that he “should have sued” Weinstein and his company for allegedly stealing their ideas. However, he felt that justice was served when Weinstein was convicted on multiple charges of rape and sexual assault—a series of events that contributed to the rise of the #MeToo movement.

“Sometimes you ain’t gotta do nothing because God’s gonna do it all — God’s revenge,” Wayans added. “When God comes for you, you gotta trust God. You don’t retaliate, vengeance is mine. They took Miramax, his company…. Then they had the Weinstein Co. and then all this stuff started going down with the rape allegations and they took that company, too. And now, your brother’s in jail and you ain’t in the business. I didn’t have to do nothing… Sometimes they get mad that a Black man has the nerve to ask for what his money is supposed to be. Don’t you tell me what I’m supposed to make. This is what my value is and if you want that, then you gon have to pay me what I’m worth.”

Marlon Wayans Dragged DJ Vlad On Club Shay Shay Too

Weinstein wasn’t the only major figure to face criticism from Wayans this week. On Sept. 5, the 52-year-old comedian took aim at DJ Vlad following the viral success of his interview with Sharpe, which accumulated over 1.4 million views in just 24 hours.

Last month, Vlad disclosed that Marlon Wayans had requested $40,000 plus 30 percent of all future revenue to appear on his platform. Vlad declined the offer, citing Wayans’ history of generating over 300,000 views online, but the recent interview proved Wayans’ influence was powerful.

“Someone once laughed at a ‘Marlon Wayans’ 1.4 million views in 24 hours. That I could only pull 300k views. I guess the juice is worth the squeeze,” Wayans tweeted Thursday. The episode has since garnered over 2.4 million views.

Quavo & Offset - BET Awards 2023 - Backstage

After posting an emotional tribute to Rich Homie Quan, Quavo reveals he had a “good convo” with Offset amid rumored indifferences.

After Rich Homie Quan’s passing, tributes to the rapper started pouring out on social media remember the Atlanta rapper. One of his peers Quavo posted a tribute that reminded us you never know you’re in the golden days until it’s too late.

The picture featured himself, Young Thug, Quan, Takeoff, and Offset in the studio right as their careers took off. If the day wasn’t sad enough Quavo showcased that everyone in the picture is either dead, in jail, or not speaking which damaged many hearts. However, social media immediately instructed him to patch up whatever was going on with Offset before it was too late.

Last year Quavo and Offset reunited at the BET Awards to pay homage to Takeoff but the energy was clear it wouldn’t be much more. Later Offset would go on to state both artists aren’t on “sucker sh*t” with each other confirming they don’t have much of a relationship.

After a few hours, Quavo provided an update and disclosed he spoke with Offset. Quavo posted “Good convo with my Bro” on his Instagram story with the locked-in emoji. Social media immediately began replying to the news with “bullying works”. Tomorrow isn’t promised and these two Atlanta legends not speaking just doesn’t make sense.

Granted we don’t know the full extent of their issues but it seems they are making advancement on healing their relationship.

Georgia Bureau of Investigations Director Chris Hosey says that the elder Gray “knowingly (allowed) his son to possess a weapon.”
