Colin Kaepernick’s Camp Denies Speaking With Jay-Z Before New NFL Deal

We’ve known Jay-Z to be many things over the years, but is a liar one of them? According to Colin Kaepernick‘s camp, that may be the case. After news broke on Wednesday that Hov signed a new partnership with the NFL, folks automatically assumed that the rap mogul was undercutting Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling protest. However, Jay discredited the claims during a meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at Roc Nation’s NYC offices, saying:

“There’s two parts of protest: the protest, and then there’s a company or individual saying ‘I hear you, what do we do next?’ For me it’s about actionable items, what are we gonna do about it?”

Both Jay and Goodell also claimed to have spoken to Kap before inking the deal to help the NFL with entertainment and social justice issues. But according to Kaepernick’s attorney, Mark Geragos, the rap mogul did not talk to the former NFL prior to signing the deal. Even Kapernick’s girlfriend Nessa spoke out about the claims, adding that Jay “NEVER included him in the discussion”.

And what does Hov have to say about the backlash? TMZ reports:

“Jay-Z’s camp tells us that he he has absolutely spoken to Kap within the last 48 hours, however … that was NOT before Jay agreed to his new partnership with the NFL. It’s unclear what they discussed, but we’re told this was not a case of Jay checking in with Colin for approval. It couldn’t have been … the deal was already signed.
To be clear … we’re told the question posed to Jay during the media event was simply whether he had spoken to Colin — NOT whether he had talked to Colin about the partnership.”

Chiiiiillle. Who do you believe?

Mia Khalifa recently revealed her earnings while in the adult entertainment industry, and the Internet wasn’t too pleased.

The ex-porn star, now sports commentator said that she only made $12,000 in her short-lived porn career. Mia tweeted the info along with a video introducing an interview she did:

“People think I’m racking in millions from porn,” she wrote. “Completely untrue. I made a TOTAL of around $12,000 in the industry and never saw a penny again after that. Difficulty finding a normal job after quitting porn was… scary.”

Folks immediately labeled Mia a clown for accepting such low pay in the porn industry.

However, Khalifa shouldn’t be ridiculed for these alleged numbers, considering the harsh truths of the porn industry.

According to Heavy.com, Khalifa was approached to do porn right after her college days at the University of Texas, El Paso. However, she quit after only three months in 2014, mainly because of a controversial scene she shot wearing a hijab. The content sparked outrage amongst some religious communities and Mia says she even received death threats from ISIS. In a 2018 interview with Playboy Magazine, she said:

“I don’t want any of this, whether it’s positive or negative – but all of it was negative. I didn’t get too much into it about how my friends and family and relationships were suffering.”

Despite quitting the industry, Mia was the most-searched porn star of 2016 and 2017 on the adult site xHamster and by June 2018, she was the No. 2 most searched star on Pornhub, according to VICE.

So why did she leave the game with only $12,000?

The reason for Mia’s alleged salary can be boiled down to a few things.

First, women porn actors don’t make as much money as you might think. According to Yahoo Finance, a typical male and female sex scene will shell out between $800 and $1,000 for a female actress. If they’re top-tier, they can get up to $1,500 or even $2,000. But if they’re a newcomer, they can receive as little as $300.

According to Heavy.com, Khalifa performed in 21 adult movies, so one would think, at best, she would’ve racked up $21,000 over the course of her career. However, her videos could’ve ranged from major studios to more amateur videos that might not pay as well. Add in the fact that she only did porn for three months and you have someone who could’ve received a low “newcomer” salary.

The porn industry also isn’t as lucrative as one might think. Because many porn firms are privately owned, it’s impossible to get a complete estimate of how much the industry is worth. According to Yahoo, some studies place the industry at making $97 billion a year, while others place revenue at less than $6 billion. With the advent of the Internet and illegal streaming, these numbers can be even lower.

Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, a sociologist and author of Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment, told Refinary29:

“Piracy-based tube sites populated with stolen content that viewers assume is ‘free’ have resulted in many challenges, including making it challenging for producers to recoup their costs, much less make a profit.”

So if porn companies aren’t making much of a profit, it’s not far-fetched that the pay is low for performers. According to Yahoo, many porn stars make their bread and butter via endorsement deals, creating customized clips for fans or, in some cases, starting their own production studios. Some porn actors even dance at adult clubs across the country where they can earn considerably more and sell their own merchandise. Thus, even though Mia quit porn as a performer, the 26 year old could still be using her name and fame to profit in other ways, and we can’t be mad at her if the $12,000 number is true.

Moves are also being made to remedy the low pay for performers, such as starting unions. According to Refinery29, the International Entertainment Adult Union was formed in December 2015 and one of their goals is to help performers negotiate film and website royalties. With such support, former stars like Khalifa can received payments long after her movies were shot and released.

So yea….

Mia’s alleged $12,000 porn accumulation is pretty shocking.

But considering the woes of the industry, it’s not uncommon. If folks love sex workers as much as they love sex, fights for better pay and royalty negotiations could reach national attention. It’ll only take more insiders like Mia to let us know how the money is distributed and who’s the biggest recipient.

If you were a fan of the chillingly silent horror flick A Quiet Place, you’ll be happy to know that the franchise is returning with an updated cast.

At first, Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry was set to star in the movie. But now, according to Deadline, Henry had to be replaced because of scheduling conflicts. Luckily, his replacement is another big-time actor Djimon Hounsou. 

There’s no word on who Hounsou will be playing but he will have a starring role in A Quiet Place 2, along with Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Cillian Murphy. The movie will be written and directed by John Krasinski, who directed and co-wrote the original movie. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will act as producers.

The original A Quiet Place was a major sleeper hit in 2018, grossing around $341 million worldwide and earning an Oscar nomination for Best Sound Editing. The sequel is set to be released on March 20, 2020 by Paramount.

Meanwhile, Hounsou has had quite a successful 2019 so far, starring in Shazam! and Captain Marvel. He also has a role in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn-directed Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man, and he’ll play in the Marvel revisionist superhero show What If…?

Only four months left in 2019 and it’s safe to say that things are hella than they were in the beginning of the year.

There’s a black, gay country rapper on the top of the music charts, breaking new records every week. Beyoncè dropped two classic, award worthy films with Lion King & Beychella, snatching edges all over the globe after taking a bit of a break for mommyhood.

And some of our favorite couples have decided to call it quits this year.

Young, white Twitter was in a frenzy on Sunday after new broke that Miley Cyrus and husband Liam Hemsworth split after less than a year of marriage.

Neither of the stars have spoken out since the news broke about the breakup, but Miley took Twitter with a super sus subtweet, writing:

“My dad always told me “ Nature never hurries but it is always on time”…. it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true. I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own.”

“Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win. Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water, connected with Africa , change is inevitable. The Dolomites were not created over night, it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed.”

Birdman Gets New Teeth

Ever since we’ve known Birdman, he’s been the face of the iced out grill. Even back before diamond teeth were dope, Baby was rocking the all gold grill.  But sometimes, you just gotta switch ish up, and Birdman did just on Friday when he revealed his new, more authentic choppers.

In true Hot Boy fashion, Baby didn’t fully let go of all his bling. He kept some diamond accents on each tooth — but at least now we can see some enamel.

Music is subjective. And everyone has their own opinion on what they consider a fire a** beat. 

For some, it’s solely about the bass. 

For others, it’s all about some quality drums or flawless keys.

Today marks the 8th anniversary of one of the greatest hip hop albums we’ve been blessed to experience — Watch The Throne. The Kanye West/Jay-Z joint project set the tone for hella collaboration albums to follow, but none of them caused ripple waves in the culture quite like The Throne. 

I mean, The Throne had “Otis”! Everyone remembers where they were in the Summer of 2011 when they her Otis Redding’s vocals on a loop as Hov and Ye’ took turns snaping on the track. 

With streaming services and social media, the consumption of is easier, but our attention to quality has become much less of a priority. Instead of feeling beats with our bodies now, we think about it in our heads.
