It’s safe to say Black people are taking over the Western genre in the future thanks to an upcoming Netflix flick.

According to Shadow and Act, Idris Elba and rising star Jonathan Majors, of The Last Black Man in San Francisco fame, will be starring in the movie The Harder They Fall.

As announced back in July, the movie is produced by Jay-Z and it will be the directorial debut of Jeymes Samuel, who worked with Jay-Z on The Great Gatsby soundtrack under his pseudonym The Bullitts. Samuel will produce the film along with Jay-Z, Lawrence Bender and James Lassiter.

In the movie, Majors will play Nat Love, an outlaw who goes on a quest of revenge once he discovers the man who killed his parents 20 years ago (Elba) is about to be released from prison. Love brings together his old gang to track down the killer.

Elba is on a Western roll, considering he just wrapped the flick Concrete Cowboys with Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin. Meanwhile, Majors continues his rise to fame with an upcoming role in HBO’s Lovecraft Country next year and he shot an upcoming Spike Lee Netflix movie called Da 5 Bloods with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.

Artists are often criticized for being outspoken about their disappointment when it comes to losing awards, or not being acknowledged for all the hard work they put it. But let’s be honest, even folks with regular 9 to 5 jobs deserve to be respected and to feel appreciated for their work.

After Sunday night’s Soul Train Awards, Ari Lennox took to Twitter to express how she was unhappy and felt let down that her debut project “Shea Butter Baby” didn’t take home the award for Best Soul Album. Instead, it went to Lizzo‘s “Cuz I Love You”.

While some accused Ari of just being selfish and spoiled, real Lennox lovers totally understood her plight. Like Lalah Hathaway who tweeted:

We love Ari Lennox over here, and won’t tolerate any Ari slander. In effort to let Ms. Shea Butter Baby know that she is not alone in her frustration, hit the flip for some of the biggest Award snubs in Black Music history. You will be surprised.

Akon recently stopped by The Real and had some interesting things to say about Kanye West running for president.

The co-hosts of the talk show first inquired if Akon would run for president in 2024, especially since he considered running for 2020 president back in 2018. “That might be possible,” Akon replied to Loni Love. “I know what the issues are as a person, as an immigrant, as a Black man. Whatever you want to call it. I kind of know or feel like I know that I can take the country and move it forward.”

Akon has definitely had his hands in country development, considering his Akon Lighting Africa . initiative, which is providing solar power to African countries. He also has plans to build a new futuristic ‘Crypto city,’ in Senegal, which will trade exclusively in his own digital cash currency dubbed AKoin.

However, these credentials don’t necessarily translate to a U.S. presidency.

But anywho, Loni further brought up Kanye West to Akon, asking him if he could beat Kanye in a presidential run, considering Kanye also has plans to run in 2024.

“Well I don’t think it would be a competition, I honestly need him to run,” Akon explained. “Kanye is not crazy, he’s just been awakened. From a spiritual state, I just feel like he’s awake now. Now he’s the most amazing marketer in the world. He understands his audience, but he’s definitely not crazy, he knows what he’s doing. My thing is, if he does run, it’s great for the culture. Now if you think he’s not fit, that’s another thing, that’s why you got me as another choice.”

Mr. Akon…

It’s one thing for Kanye to be spiritually reawakened and to gush about how he’s reconnected with God at Joel Osteen‘s church.

But it’s another thing to take that and believe you can run a whole country. Especially when Kanye has constantly implied Black slavery was a choice and he supports a racist president like Donald Trump.

Whether you’re an actor, musician, activist or politicians, what are your policy goals for the country? How do they fit within the context of how issues have been handled in this country historically? And do you have the experience and wherewithal to navigate a very problematic political system that doesn’t always hold the best interest of common people…ESPECIALLY Black people.

Answering these questions would be “for the culture” Mr. Akon.

As DaBaby‘s star status continues to climb, so does his production value…to the point where he’s orchestrating full-on musicals.

The North Carolina rapper transformed his song “BOP” from his album KIRK into “BOP on Broadway”, creating a hip hop musical video.

Of course, no musical is complete without some epic choreography and “BOP on Broadway” is full of it, thanks to cameos from a number of dancers. Probably the most familiar faces (or masks) came towards the end of the video when the JabbaWockeeZ made an appearance. As expected, their moves were slick, precise and smooth, similar to the music DaBaby pushes out to the world.

Many people on Twitter definitely appreciated the nod to the dance group, which is probably most famous for winning the first season of the MTV show America’s Best Dance Crew. Since their 2008 win, the team has continued to tour, choreograph and make their brand of masked movers known across the world.

In the YouTube description for “BOP on Broadway” (directed by Reel Goats), the creators give a special thanks to all the talent involved:

“Shoutout every single dancer that came out to be great. Shout Cherry and Danileigh for the Choreography. Much love to Paramount for letting us run wild on their studio lot. Kirk Album Out Now. The Kirk Tour starts this weekend if you ain’t got your tickets, go get them you b*tch a$$ ni**as.”

Spike Lee will be adapting a DC Comics/Vertigo graphic novel called Prince of Cats into a movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comic, which was written and illustrated by Ron Wimberly, is described as an “80s-set hip-hop take on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, with the tragic star-crossed love story seen through the eyes of Tybalt, Juliet’s angry and duel-loving cousin.”

The description continues:

“The film centers on Tybalt and his Capulet brothers, who navigate Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn, where underground sword dueling — including katanas — with the rival Montagues blossoms into a vibrant world. That world includes hip-hop essentials such as DJing, emceeing, breakdancing and graffiti.”

Lee will rewrite the script and partner with Wimberly and Selwyn Seyfu Hinds for the story.

Hinds wrote the initial screenplay for the adaptation of the graphic novel. His knowledge of the hip hop world stems from his tenure as the editor-in-chief of The Source magazine. Hinds also doubles as a comic writer, having penned an episode of Jordan Peele‘s update of The Twilight Zone.

Lakeith Stanfield was original slated to star in the Prince of Cats movie, however he’s no longer attached.

Meanwhile, Lee is still building off the success of his movie BlacKkKlansman, which garnered him Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Director. He won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film. Currently, Lee is in postproduction on Da 5 Bloods, a thriller which includes Chadwick Boseman, Paul Walter Hauser and Jonathan Majors in its ensemble.

**Spoilers below**

Season two of All American is proving to be the most explosive season yet with plot twist after plot twist and characters becoming messier by the minute.

[embedded content]

Spencer James (played by Daniel Ezra) still leads the show as Beverly Hills High’s star football player. He continues to balance his life between Beverly Hills and Crenshaw with the support of his best friend Coop (played by Bre-Z), his single mom Grace James (played by Karimah Westbrook), and Beverly High coach Billy Baker (played by Taye Diggs). However, it was recently revealed that his mom cheated on his dad Corey James with Coach Baker, so naturally the after-effects are intense in season two. On top of all this, Spencer’s father has returned in his life after years of missing his childhood. Plus, Spencer is concerned for his girlfriend, Layla Keating, who seems to be spiraling out of control after her house is broken into and her dad is M.I.A. after the trauma.

Such drama makes for messy characters and you can hit the flip for the messiest of the messiest thus far!

To say that 2019 was one hell of a year for Omarion is an understatement.

He joined his former group, B2K, for the Millenium Tour which turned out to be one of the biggest tours of the year. He hopped back in the studio to give fans more music, and even got custody of his two children Megaa and Amei.

All while experiencing his glow up, Omarion was also experiencing a different kind of baby mama drama. His situation is so unique that half the time it didn’t even seem like he was involved.

As you may know, Apryl Jones (Omarion’s childrens’ mother and Love & Hip Hop star) has recently gone public with her relationship with none other than Lil Fizz.

That’s right. Omarion’s B2K bandmate. SMH. Since the news broke, folks had lots to say about Ms. Apryl and her choices.

But the real gag of it all is that while Apryl and Fizz were making headlines everyday — Omarion has been quiet, taking pics like this for the gram:

Today marks the singer’s 35th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than to honor his admirable, unbothered ways. Which Omarion are you today? Hit the flip.
