"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" European Premiere - Red Carpet Arrivals

As we’ve mentioned before, the movie rating site Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t always get it right when it comes to scoring films. A plethora of movies from the 90s alone deserve more than a “rotten” rating just because they were an integral part of people’s childhoods.

Now, RT — which creates scores based off aggregated critic reviews from other publications — has given the early verdict for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie, and the rating is less than satisfactory.

They gave the movie a 59% as of Wednesday afternoon, or in other words a “rotten” score.

This might come as a surprise to some Star Wars fans considering the previous two movies in the trilogy, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), received a 93% and a 91% respectively. In other words, they’re happily “Certified FRESH.”

The original Star Wars trilogy, which kicked off in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and ended with Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983), also received passing ratings with The Empire Strikes Back (1980) receiving the highest rating at 94%.

The late 90s/early 2000s Star Wars trilogy didn’t fare as well on average. The 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace received a 53%. However, things got better over time with Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) receiving a 65%, which is considered “FRESH,” and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith receiving a “Certified FRESH” at 80%.

So why the low rating for The Rise of Skywalker, especially when it’s directed by acclaimed blockbuster filmmaker J.J. Abrams (who was also behind Mission: Impossible 3, Star Trek, and The Force Awakens). Without giving any spoilers, some critics described The Rise of Skywalker as “terribly wrong,” “cartoonish and absurd,” or a “complicated blend of contradictions.”

Eesh.

Despite the icy reviews, does that mean The Rise of Skywalker is a completely terrible movie at 59 percent. It’s only one percent away from 60% as of Wednesday afternoon and has the possibility to climb over the weekend. Then it’ll have a “FRESH” rating. Critics who enjoyed the movie said it “had just enough thrills to satisfy fans” and “was really, really good fun.”

It seems ultimately, your commitment to the franchise is going to determine whether you’ll see the movie or not. You can go by the critics if you’re not that invested and want to save money, or you can take the risk of seeing the movie and deciding for yourself.

May the force be with you.

Until then, you can peep Twitter’s thoughts on the Rotten Tomatoes rating below.

Nafessa Williams is kicking butts and taking names as the fierce heroine Thunder on The CW show Black Lightning. It seems media personality and former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal is taking notice because he was willing to risk it all by sliding into one of Williams’ Instagram stories.

According to SportsGossip.com, Williams was talking to her fans on IG when Shaq slid into the comments section with a few thoughts of his own. “What u want baby,” he started off with. Then he added, “I’ll give U the world.” You can peep the whole interaction here.

Clearly, we see how the 47-year-old former baller makes his moves. Williams has yet to respond to Shaq promising her the world, but it would definitely make for an interesting couple, considering Williams is 17 years younger than Shaq. Although Shaq is a business owner, sports commentator and celebrated ball player, the rising actress might want more than a typical pickup line.

But considering Williams’ ferocious beauty…

You can’t blame Shaq for trying.

You can check out Black Lighting on The CW streaming site to learn more about why Shaq is so thirsty.

Not So Silent Night Silent Headphone Party

Source: Kevin Rawls / Radio One Houston

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas — and regardless of the holiday, no one wants a boring, lifeless party. Sure, classic holiday hits like “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” and “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” gets the nostalgic spirit going, but ain’t no party like a hip hop Christmas party, cause a hip hop Christmas party don’t stop.

There’s nothing like the feeling of holiday joy topped off with rhythmic jingles from artist who rarely get jolly. Take Run DMC for example. When they hit the scene back in the early 80’s, they were the most street and “rough around the edges” artists the industry had ever seen. So imagine the energy shift when the legendary group dropped their holiday themed tracks, like “Christmas In Hollis”.

The group single handedly ushered in a genre that is now known as hip hop Christmas music.  In an interview with The WrapUp, Revered Run said of the 1987 classic song,

“Don’t put me up against Nat ‘King’ Cole. I may be the first to make a rap Christmas song, but I’m not ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. “I sat there with a pen. I remember bacon, eggs and jelly and I wrote the rhyme within one minute. I called him (Adler) back, and I think there was a Holy Ghost takeover because the rhyme was very much spiritual and beautiful. I thank God for that moment of giving me that rhyme.”

Hip hop holiday tracks always have a relatable story of some sort, compared to the classic Christmas tracks that shares tales of a fantasy Winter wonderland world.  Hit the flip for more rhythm & blues and base knocking holiday songs that’ll guarantee a soulful Christmas.

Rapper Sued By Two Women For Fathering Their Babies

Future is working behind the scenes to settle at least one paternity and child support case after two women say they bore his children earlier this year, BOSSIP can reveal.

The rapper’s legal team is trying to negotiate an out of court deal on his behalf instead of going to trial in order to avoid having details about his sex life and other personal revelations being made public, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told BOSSIP.

Future has offered at least one of his alleged baby mamas a lump sum and child support in exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement – but the woman does not want to be barred from speaking out about the case or her relationship with him, our source says. Future’s lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.

The news comes as the two women suing him, Eliza Reign and Cindy Parker, have had their legal cases against him brought to a virtual standstill.

Reign sued Future in August 2019, alleging that he was the father of her baby girl, Reign, who was born in April. She said that Future has never met her daughter, but she wants the baby to have a relationship with him if he acts in the child’s best interest, her complaint states. Reign’s attorney declined to comment because the case was ongoing.

And in October, Parker sued Future for allegedly siring her son, Legend, before abandoning her. Parker’s lawyer didn’t return BOSSIP’s request for comment.

The rapper’s reticence to air his dirty laundry in public is evident in Reign’s case against him, where he’s asked for a gag order because he’s concerned that worried that “false and baseless allegations” will be leaked to the media and the public, according to court papers obtained by BOSSIP. A judge was supposed to rule on the gag order last month, but the hearing was canceled at the last minute.

Future, who is now reportedly in a relationship with Steve Harvey’s stepdaughter, Lori, hasn’t commented on the controversy, other than to drop the song “Last Name,” where he berates a woman for “stealing” his last name after having his baby despite him barely knowing her.

Megan Thee Stallion is bringing her strong knees and acting chops to T.V.

The rapper is set to make an appearance on the NBC comedy-drama Good Girls, according to a post from the show’s Instagram. Meg touts in the video, “What’s up hotties, it’s me Megan Thee Stallion, the Hot Girls coach, and NBC done let me come on and be on Good Girls and yea, ya just need to tune in and get ready for me.”

It’s yet to be revealed the role Meg will play in the season three episode or how many episodes she will appear in.

According to Shadow and Act, Good Girls follows three suburban moms who when tired of trying to make ends meet, decide to advocate for themselves by robbing the local supermarket at (toy) gunpoint. However, when the manager catches a glimpse of one of the ladies and the loot is far more than anticipated, it doesn’t take too long before the three best friends realize the ideal getaway will be harder than they expected.

The show stars Christina Hendricks, Retta, Mae Whitman, Reno Wilson, Manny Montana, Lidya Jewett, Izzy Stannard and Matthew Lillard.

Mo’Nique might be cut out of a few jobs because of her controversial statements and moves against Netflix, but she will not be cut out of cinema! The comedian has booked a new lead role in an independent action-adventure called Mother Trucker, and it definitely seems like a role perfect for Mo’Nique.

According to Variety, the flick is set during the Congressional impeachment hearings to remove President Richard Nixon from office prior to his resignation in 1974. Mo’Nique will play a mother, struggling with anger management issues, who is pushed to steal her suddenly deceased husband’s trucking haul to provide for her daughter. On their cross-country voyage, she discovers the truth behind her husband’s death and unleashes her rage upon his racist killers.

If this is anything like Kill Bill but with Mo’Nique, we definitely need that movie stat!

The flick is written by J. Oyer Tomas a former HBO executive producer. He has also directed, written and produced commercial and short-form promotional content for HBO series Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, All The Way, and Bessie. Tomas will direct Mother Trucker as his feature directorial debut.

“I knew this was unique from the jump, because of the countless scripts we’ve read together, the only other time my husband said ‘this is special’ was for a little movie named ‘Precious,’” Mo’Nique said. “Never in my 30 years of being in entertainment have I seen a film with a badass black woman that has the balance of funny, drama, and action while addressing the challenges women of color face everyday, like ‘Mother Trucker.’”

Mo’Nique met Tomas in 2014 on the set of Bessie, which earned Mo’Nique a Primetime Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Ma Rainey.

The last movie Mo’Nique starred in was Almost Christmas and she’s currently working on a comedy special for Showtime to air next year.

The 2010s have been a pretty interesting year in film. As we championed and celebrated racial and gender diversity in Hollywood, it still seems as though we have such a long way to regarding representation and equal pay for women and people of color.

On the flip side, Millennials were able to see themselves and their stories on-screen this past decade than ever before in film history. Whether it was heart wrenching films about mental health, or coming of age flicks about Black Boys discovering their sexuality — lots of movies from the 2010s will go down in cinema history as timeless and groundbreaking.

Hell, we even got to see films that made us sympathize with villains. Talk about perspective shifts.

In honor of our beloved 2010s coming to an end, let’s take a look back at some of the movies most loved by Millennials this decade. Did we miss one?

Peter Sarsgaard

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN

The cast for the upcoming Batman movie is quickly filling out and on Friday, the director announced a new hire in the form of Peter Sarsgaard.

Filmmaker Matt Reeves shared a GIF of the actor on Twitter, where he has been confirming other casting choices. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources are saying that Sarsgaard could be playing a corrupt cop named Wasserman or a district attorney. If he’s playing the attorney, it’s most likely he’ll be playing the popular Batman character Harvey Dent, who eventually becomes the villain Two-Face.

So far, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone. Jeffrey Wright is expected to play Batman’s ally Commissioner Gordon, while Andy Serkis is supposed to act as Batman’s trusted butler, Alfred.

Sarsgaard’s claim to fame was the 1999 movie Boys Don’t Cry and his role in the 2003 flick Shattered Glass. He also has superhero movie experience with the 2011 movie Green Lantern. Hardcore fans argue that Sarsgaard’s wife, fellow actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, might’ve teased his Batman casting in a captioned Instagram photo this week where her husband’s head is half shaven. She wrote with the picture, “Half way through a shave.”

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.

The 2010s witnessed its fair share of terrible songs that somehow managed to remain in the public light. From EDM catastrophes to booty songs that just wouldn’t go away, the decade definitely had some low moments.

Thanks to the Internet, a lot of music could be avoided from the radio. But even the most intrusive songs were popping up in social media feeds and getting millions of views for some bizarre reason. Check out the first song of dismay below, then hit the flip for more triggering tracks that might’ve left your ears in shambles.

“OMG” by Usher feat. will.i.am (2010)

[embedded content]

It’s only right that we start the decade off with Usher‘s lowest moment — the EDM era. While some songs were tolerable during this time, they were a far cry from the R&B crunk king we knew and loved from the 2000s…and “OMG” was the worst of them. The song starts off promising with the simple melody “Baby let me love you down, there’s so many ways to love you.” But then the lyrics go from decent to terrible with lines like “Honey got a booty like pow, pow, pow/ Honey got some boobies like wow, oh wow.”

Um…SIR.
