Megan Thee Stallion’s civil suit against her label 1501 Certified Entertainment is far from over.

The Houston record company – and its head, Carl Crawford – filed court papers asking that the rising rapper’s civil suit against them grind to a halt.

The label just filed a motion to stay Megan’s case and have her allegations of fraud, bullying and more be decided by a private arbitrator.

Lawyers for the label filed court papers March 11 asking for her case to be put on hold indefinitely because their contract says that she can’t sue the label if they disagree over it.

If the judge approves the case going through arbitration, the outcome may never be made public.

1501 said Megan willingly entered into an artist’s contract with the company two years ago, and under the terms of that deal, any disputes between them would be settled privately through arbitration. Crawford and 1501 contend that having Megan’s case proceed would violate their artist’s agreement and the law. They believe even if Megan’s fraud claims against them are true, everything still needs to be hashed out in private.

Meg sued Crawford and 1501 earlier this month, alleging they had her sign a bad deal, are harassing her online, are jealous of her Roc Nation management deal and out to ruin her career. Last week, Megan got a court order that allowed her to release new singles, S.U.G.A. and “Captain Hook.”

A judge has yet to rule on the motion.

DipSet U.S.A. And Agenda Present: Cam'ron And Jim Jones

Damon Dash never plays around when it comes to his money and his art — so when Cam’ron said the former Roc-A-Fella head “smacked” Harvey Weinstein on the set of Paid In Full, we believe him.

We’ve known about the alleged smackdown since Paid In Full hit theaters in, but when The Diplomats dropped their 2017 single  “Once Upon a Time,” — Cam threw hella shots at the controversial Hollywood producer, rapping:

No disrespecting the ladies, word from my team

That’s the reason Dame smacked Harvey Weinstein

On the set of Paid In Full, y’all gave him hell about it

Some foul shit happened once, Capo, tell ‘em about it

Surprisingly enough, Dash never bragged about this important moment in Dame history. However, he did admit to having issues with the Weinsteins while filming Paid In Full back in 2002. He told TMZ:

“Somebody definitely got smacked on the set of Paid In Full. But, you know, I’ve never really liked the way Harvey treated my culture. I didn’t like the way he talked to people and I didn’t like the way he was treating my film.”

Of course, Weinstein himself never spoke about the incident. But little did we know, he had much bigger skeletons in his closet.

On Wednesday, after months of deliberation, the former TV producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another. Buzzfeed News reports:

Weinstein was facing a maximum of 29 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of first-degree criminal sex act and third-degree rape on Feb. 24. They acquitted him on the most serious charges of predatory sexual assault that carried a possible life sentence.

A spokesperson for the New York State Department of Corrections added: “Weinstein will be held at Rikers Island until he is deemed ready to be transferred to the custody of the state’s corrections department after which he will be incarcerated in a state prison facility.”

Justice was served today.

It’s about time that Tierra Whack starts getting the #respeck that she deserves. The 24-year old Philly native has been putting in that authentic work for several years now, and it seems as if folks are just now starting to hop on the Whack Wagon.

Her unique and delightful style, intense and profound lyrics, mixed in with her creative visuals and superb confidence puts Tierra in a league of her own. I mean, she got to be featured on Beyonce’s Lion King: The Gift album. ICONIC.

Earlier this week, the upbeat rapper graced the cover of Teen Vogue and dished on everything from finally being noticed for her talent and colorism in the music industry.

“I recognize [that] I am dark. I remember being younger and being teased for my skin being darker. My mom, she just was always there like, ‘You have to love yourself.’ Seeing Lauryn [Hill] and then seeing Missy [Elliott] — they were making it. I don’t think Missy was like, ‘I’m going to be a dark girl making it.’ I think she just did it. You just do it… If I could change [colorism in the industry], that would be really nice.”

Little does she know, just by showing her beautiful face and unapologetically rocking her unorthodox style makes young dark girls everywhere feel like they can too.

“I just want to do what I feel inside and make it work to the best of my ability and whatever comes with it, comes with it. I can’t change how I look. That’s how I showed up, in my dark skin. I dress kind of cool. Either y’all gon’ take it or not.”

Luckily for Tierra, she’s coming up in a time when brown and dark women are running the game. We get to see Normani, SZA and Megan Thee Stallion on the cover of Rolling Stone, while Whack blesses Teen Vogue and other femcees like Rapsody and Dreezy are out here doing their thing ATSDT.

Hit the flip for more cool, colorful pics of Tierra Whack that put color prejudice to shame.

General Mills In Talks To Purchase Yoplait Yogurt

National Cereal Day makes you reminisce about all the good cereal we had as kids back in the day — because cereals these days are not the same. Technically, it wasn’t a complete Saturday Morning cartoon binge without some cereal to go along with it.

If you’re a true 90’s kids, then you remember there was nearly a cereal for every popular character on television at the time.

Urkel O’s

Then, there were cookies that turned into cereals.

Oreo O’s

And let’s not forget the cereals that were cereals in cartoons and became cereals in real life.

Reptar Crunch

But believe it or not, cereal didn’t just start poppin’ when we were kids. It’s been around for a very long time.

Ferdinand Schumacher, a German immigrant, began the cereal revolution in 1854 with a hand oats grinder in the back room of a small store in Akron, Ohio. His German Mills American Oatmeal Company was the nation’s first commercial oatmeal manufacturer. In 1877, Schumacher adopted the Quaker symbol, the first registered trademark for a breakfast cereal.

So how do we honor National Cereal Day? Have a bowl for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Share it as a snack or bake something and share your recipes. Do you remember any of these discontinued cereals? Hit the flip to check it out.

Drake Courtside With WWE Title

Source: (Photo by Vaughn Ridley/Getty Images) / (Photo by Vaughn Ridley/Getty Images)

It’s no secret that Drake has been around the block.During his one decade in the music game, Drizzy has had a strong roster of lovely lady friends ranging from upcoming strippers to award winning actresses. When it comes to dating, never discriminates when it comes to race, age or vocation. In fact, the 6 God so impartial to the women that he dates sometimes that he wounds up dating two friends at the same time.

That was the case back in the early 2010s when Drake was a rising rap star dating two of the most popular models at the time: Melyssa Ford and Toccara Jones.

That’s right. No one knew that Drizzy had a thing with either woman until the ladies spoke out about it earlier this week on the latest episode of Ford and Blue Telusma’s podcast “I’m Here For The Food“. The episode, entitled “Chicks Before D*cks, featured the former video model and ANTM alum as they dished on the awkward situation and how they ultimately got through it.

Melyssa: She’s telling me that we’re dating the same guy, and you know what I say to her? ‘Knock yourself out’. I didn’t have to have a conversation with him—I mean I did, eventually—not eventually, probably like the next day or something like that because he called me. But I just want to finish it off with saying this: there was no way I was losing my friend to this guy, no matter who the f*ck he was. I was not losing my girlfriend.”

As Blue continues to question who this mystery guy is, both model glance at each other before answering, “Drake.”

This just makes you wonder how many more famous and non-famous BFF’s has Drake got in between — no pun intended. At least the ladies didn’t allow Mr. Nice For What to ruin their friendship. Let’s take a minute to honor this special moment in Women’s History Month. Hit the flip for the full episode.

ABC's "Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time"

Source: Eric McCandless / Getty

In March of 2019, famous Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The nation was devastated to hear the news, but the legend remained hopeful, telling fans he was going to fight for his life.

“Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” he announced in a viral video clip at the time. “Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m gonna fight this and I’m gonna keep working. And, with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

Trebek went on to tell us all to have a little faith and now, one year later, he’s got an update for everyone. The survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer is only 18%, but he beat the odds!

While he’s happy to be alive, Trebek says the journey has been extremely difficult. “Now I’d be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one. There were some good days, but a lot of not-so-good days. I joked with friends that the cancer won’t kill me, the chemo treatments will. There were moments of great pain, days when certain bodily functions no longer functioned, and sudden, massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on,” he said in a video released this morning, March 4.

“But I brushed that aside quickly because that would’ve been a massive betrayal. A betrayal of my wife and soulmate, Jean, who has given her all to help me survive. It would’ve been a betrayal of other cancer patients who have looked to me as an inspiration… and it would certainly have been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf,” Trebek added, ending his message with “If we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible. I’ll keep you posted.”

See his full message below:

Here at Global Grind we are cheering on Alex Trebek during this painful and strenuous fight and praying that he gets better. In the meantime, help us celebrate his GOAT status by watching this GMA clip below, a not-so-subtle reminder that Trebek is one of the best to ever do this game show hosting isht.

We haven’t even reached the full anniversary of Hot Girl Summer, and some is going on with Megan Thee Stallion‘s music. As you may have heard, the Houston Hottie recently took to Instagram to let fans know that she’s currently in a legal battle with her label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, after her attempt to renegotiate her contract was met with much resistance.

Megan claims in the suit that 1501 set up her contract so they get 60 percent of her recording income, which means she pockets less than half of what she earns from music sales. The suit also claims that her advance for getting signed to the label was only $10,000 as opposed to the 50K she was suppose to get.

But label runner, and former MLB star Carl Crawford says Megan is a liar and nothing she’s saying is the truth. He told Billboard,

“I wrote her a check for $50,000, and it’s signed with her name on the check. We can show you the proof. That’s another thing— I got all my receipts. They know it. I got all the receipts. We gave her a $10,000 advance when we first signed her and gave it to her mother. I don’t know what happened [with that].”

After the dispute with Meg, 1501 denied her from dropping any new music. However, the powers that be had other plans. According to TMZ, a district judge in Harris County Texas granted Megan a temporary restraining order which prevents her label from blocking the music she plans to drop on Friday.

Unfortunately, Meg isn’t the first, and won’t be the last, artist to get caught up in a janky deal. Hit the flip for more.

There’s been lots of controversy surrounding the National Anthem over the years. Some sing along when it’s performed at games. Others sit in their seats, scrolling on their phone while the rockets red glare burst in the air. Then there are folks who strictly only sing the Black National Anthem at anytime, in any place.

But before we all became woke and appreciative of the James Weldon Johnson hymn, we were forced to learn Star Spangled Banner. But the blatantly racist lyrics in America’s National Anthem has always made the song a big red, blue and white elephant in the room. Hence the reason why Colin Kaepernick is still out of a job and why Jay-Z caught some much flack for his work with the NFL.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. – Kaepernick

The third verse of the anthem, which no one knows, is the most racist line in the entire song.

The third stanza of the anthem, which is rarely sung and few know, contains the words, “No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:”, which some interpret as racist. – Wikipedia

However, just like most things in life, Black folks have found a way to turn lemons into lemonade. Because nobody — and I mean nobody, can sing the national anthem like our Black artists. Black female singers to be exact. Take a look at some of the women who bodied tat classic song.

The trailer for the highly anticipated remake of supernatural smasher film Candyman dropped today and fans are hype to see their favorite childhood thriller come to life in 2020.

The film, co-written by co-written by Nia DaCosta, Jordan Peele stars upcoming black hollywood royalty, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris and Nathan Stewart Jarrett.

[embedded content]

The first trailer doesn’t give us too much detail about the film, but it gives us enough to know that Yahya Abdul-Mateen will be starring as grown-up Anthony McCoy (the baby from the first movie), which means we’ll be watching.

You may know Yahya from his roles in Aquaman, The Get Down and Watchmen, but believe it or not — his career is just getting started. According to reports, the budding actor is also set to star in Matrix 4 and will also play Bobby Seale in the Aaron Sorkin flick The Trial Of The Chicago 7.

The Louisiana-born Yale graduate is booked and busy. But not too busy to be on everyone’s sexiest man list. It’s almost as if he came out of nowhere just….being fine.

But Yahya probably doesn’t mind all the new love and attention. I mean, after all, he did do a nude scene for Watchmen. He told Indiewire:

My attitude toward [appearing nude] was: I’ve been working out, I’ve been getting in shape, it’s HBO, and I’m young. [And] guys can do it, too. Nudity on television was one-sided for so long, but times are changing, where it’s not that big of a deal and guys are being asked to carry their own weight, if they’re willing. So I said, ‘I think it will be fun,’ and I was confident about getting out there and stepping up to the plate. I was really happy with how it all turned out. I think we tried to make sure everything was tasteful — tasteful and comfortable.

Tasteful indeed, Yahya.  Catch Candyman when it hits theaters this Summer! And hit the flip for some of Yahya’s finest moments.

Posa "Cursed" video still

Source: T.I.G./Warner Records

Rising star Posa is the latest T.I.G./Warner artist to create his very own lane in a shameless copycat industry where very few ideas are fresh or original.

With “Cursed,” he bares his inner-demons in the presence of an impossibly thick baddie who serves as a metaphor for the bubbling rapper’s afflictions.

“At the time when I was writing ‘Cursed,’ I was feeling defeated and I was dealing with a lot of mixed emotions,” Posa shares about the new release. “Everything was going wrong, ‘I was cursed.’ I needed people to see my words instead of hearing them, so I shot the video as if it was going on right then in the most common small place, a hotel.”

Peep the deeply personal video below:

[embedded content]

Posa (formerly known as Posa Da Don) grew up the youngest of four kids in a tough Mobile, Alabama neighborhood but was raised by a loving family who were musically inspired. After witnessing firsthand his brothers’ lives taking a turn for the worst, he devoted all of his time to music. Posa’s new music reflects the journey from his childhood to adulthood and his heartbreaking love story. Today, Posa is blessed with two young children and is excited to release new music.

You can stream “Cursed” off his new “2 Sides Of Da Bottom” mixtape here.

There are very few artists from the early 2000s that we actually good artists. Remember, that was a time when you could create a beat on your phone and sell a million ringtones in less than a few months. So having actual talent was not a recommendation for that era.

But Jojo was one of those artists that slipped through the cracks. Her voice was way more mature than her looks and her songs were just THAT.

[embedded content]

It’s been a rough couple of years for the songstress. After years legally battling her record label, Blackground, the company pulled her album from streaming services when she finally won her suits in 2014. Since then, she’s been dropping little covers here and there, but no solid project yet. However, her early records were such classics that she still makes a pretty decent coin touring the world to perform them.

[embedded content]

She’s also a hella smart business woman who owns her very own record label. Jojo founded Clover Music in 2017. She used the new label to re-release her first two albums Jojo and The High Road and release them on streaming services for her fans.

But above all else, the girl can still sing most of your faves under the table. Early this week, Jojo stopped by Youtube sensation Terrell Grice’s Instagram show and further proved why we’re in desperate need of new music from her. Like, who else can nail an Anita Baker run so effortlessly?

Jojo, girl. It’s time.  Hit the flip to check out her full performance on Terrell’s show.
