It’s not enough to say that the world feels like it’s in shambles these days. America and majority of the world is currently at a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Presidential campaign feels like an unfunny joke and our African Americans are contracting the the deadly virus at an alarming rate compared to other demographics.

The one glimmer of light that we had as millennials was the highly hopeful thought that Bernie Sanders could possibly be the next President of the United States. But now that that dream has been cancelled, there’s seems to be no hope. No joy. No good, heartwarming moments for the people to enjoy. Thankfully, there are still people in the world doing good and helping lift people’s spirits during this time. Like La La Anthony

The actress and former host is working with Facebook Watch on a new show called, “La La Anthony: Reclaim Your Life”, a series that aims to help women reclaim their power after experiencing personal and professional hardships. In the first episode, La La invites Karrueche Tran to help two lovely ladies regain their confidence and joy after one of the women suffered a toxic relationship and the other is trying to make ends meet for her children after receiving a felony charge and losing her job.

According to Anthony, new episodes of the series were set to premiere once a week, but due to COVID-19, she hasn’t been able to film as many as she liked.

“I’m glad I had one great one in the can to show everybody. Stay tuned for more.”

La La Anthony: Reclaim Your Life” debuts on Facebook Watch this Wednesday at 4pm EST. Check out the full episode below.

The All American cast literally doesn’t know how to not be beautiful, and it’s further proven with their successful take at the #DontRushChallenge.

The challenge has been gaining buzz on social media ever since it was started by 20-year-old Toluwalase Asolo, according to Teen Vogue.

The business management student at the University of Hull, tweeted a clip of herself changing looks with her friends along with the caption, “The boredom jumped out.” With the song “Don’t Rush” by U.K. rap duo Young T and Bugsey as their background, Asolo and her team passed around a makeup brush like a metaphorical baton and the clips cut to them going from a non-make-up look to a glossed up look.

Asolo explained to Teen Vogue that she was inspired by the boredom and uncertainty present during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We understand that in a period like this with nothing to do, a lot of people may slip into depression due to high levels of inactivity and idleness,” Toluwalase told Teen Vogue. “So we decided to highlight the togetherness in isolation.”

Now, it seems like the cast of The CW show All American wants to get in on that togetherness with their own version of the #DontRushChallenge.

And, of course, the ladies and gentlemen look gorgeous before and after getting dressed up. Check out the looks for yourself below.

The quarantine life has more downsides than you can count. But just like with most things in life, there is a silver lining that came out of all of this. Folks have come together as a culture and community using the one media that always tends to spread the message of love as far as possible: music.

It all started out with DJ DNICE’s Instagram Live Couch party. It was such a major success, that it inspired legendary producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland to go head up on the ‘gram with some of their most classic records. The people loved it so much that Swizzy and Timb came up with concept of VERZUZ in which two music heavy hitters battle it out on the IG Live playing some of their biggest hits.

So far, we’ve seen The Dream Vs. Sean Garrett, Ne-Yo Vs. Johnta Austin, Lil Jon Vs. T-Pain. But one of the most highly anticipated battles was the VERZUS between Teddy Riley and Babyface. Folks had their quarantine fits ready to watch the icons sound off, then Swizz announced that the battle will be postponed.

Needless to say, the people weren’t pleased. Especially when Mr. Riley explained his reason for bowing out.

“We pulled back because we really want this done right. We don’t want the [feed to stop after an hour on]…Instagram. That’s the main reason why. The company that I’m a partner of, I thought that this is something that would be great for them to take this to another level.”

Someone should tell Teddy that VERZUS is suppose to be a carefree, fun moment in time for the people. I mean, we are going through a global pandemic.

Well, until the iconic battle goes down, here’s a list of folks we’d love to see go head up for VERZUZ.

Babyface & L.A. Reid Vs. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis

Kanye West Vs. Pharrell

Darkchild Vs. Bryan Michael Cox

Meek Mill Vs. 2 Chainz

Kirk Franklin Vs. Donnie McClurkin

Young Thug Vs. Future

Monica Vs. Brandy

Anderson .Paak and Justin Timberlake have dropped the visuals for their collaboration song “Don’t Slack” as part of the Trolls World Tour soundtrack.

The video stars one of the lead voices for the animated movie, Anna Kendrick. She plays an unsuspecting woman who’s magically followed around her home by the musical grooves of .Paak and Timberlake.

Trolls World Tour will be the first major Hollywood flick to go directly to streaming instead of being released in theaters. The movie was originally supposed to hit theaters nationwide on April 10, however the the coronavirus pandemic caused DreamWorks to offer streaming access to the movie for $20.

Along with Kendricks, the flick features the vocal talents of Timberlake, .Paak and additional vocal cameos by George Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, Gwen Stefani and more.

Recently, Timberlake hinted at the possibility of a joint project with .Paak outside of their Trolls collaboration, according to Okayplayer.

“I hope he doesn’t mind that I’m gonna say this right now,” Timberlake explained to Beats One’s Zane Lowe. “But we talked about a possible joint project.” Timberlake later explained that the album is still in the early stages of planning. “I don’t have an agenda to make an album,” he said. “But if it comes together then it comes together. In the meantime, I just want to stack records with people I love, and that I’m inspired by.”

Drake, Adonis and Sophie Brussaux

DNA is a very interesting concept. As humans, we think we can determine how our offspring will look based on how we look, but quite the contrary. Drake released never before seen photos of his son Adonis earlier this week, a woman by the name of Samantha Rushmeyer took to Twitter to show how much her baby boy look like Drake’s son.

But the real gag is, she looks exactly like Drizzy’s baby mama Sophie Brussaux.

Adonis’ baby reveal proved that folks don’t know much about how DNA works. People had lots to say about the baby’s light eyes and blonde hair:

But if you really pay attention, you realize that baby Adonis is Drizzy’s mama’s doppelganger.

Although it’s a ridiculous concept to assume that all people of one race look similar, most of us do have some distant cousins that we may not know about.

Every now and then, someone comes along with enough smarts, grace and courage to call out the government on their trifling behavior. PBS NewsHour Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor is one of those valiant people who persists in getting the truth, no matter how uneasy it may make someone.  In fact, the NBC political contributor did her job so well that it made Donald Trump super uncomfortable on Sunday during a briefing at the White House.

Things started to go left when Alcindor asked Trump about his previous comments on the number of medical supplies needed by states to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. But the Donald wasn’t pleased with her questioning his comments. He responded:

Why don’t you people — why don’t you act in a little more positive. It’s always trying to get you, and you know what, that’s why people don’t trust the media anymore.”

But Yamiche didn’t back down. She clapped back:

“Excuse me, you didn’t hear me, that’s why you used to work for the [New York] Times and now you work for somebody else”.

And in true DT form, he showed his high-key racist behind and told Alcindor, a Black Woman, : “Be nice. Don’t be threatening’”.

Then, Alcindor let it be known that “I’m not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has clashed with the news anchor, and it probably won’t be the last. And judging by these regal journalistic pics, Yamiche Alcindor is smart, powerful, Black force that is not to be played with. She must be protected at all costs.

Sometimes it feels as though the human race is just wandering along the planet with little to no guidance. The only thing we truly have to show us the “correct” way to live is the experiences of those that came before us. Wise people turn to spirituality to get a sense of counsel and instruction, but even wiser folks study history to see what’s going to happen next, how it’ll play out, and what role they play in the grand scheme of it all.

Ironically, modern times are just as predictable as they are uncertain. Either the television and film industry is full of history buffs with very accurate imaginations, or life is really a continuum of cycles that repeat themselves. ‘Cause there’s no way that shows like the Simpsons have been able to accurately predict so many occurences.

Remember when the hit FOX show predicted that Disney would purchase and acquire all the rights to network…20 years before it happened?

Or how about the time they predicted Prince’s suspicious death eight years before he actually died.

[embedded content]

Strangely enough, the Simpsons isn’t the only film or television show to eerily predict what would be happening in the future. Check out our list below.

Outbreak (1995)

[embedded content]

Disaster films are always relatable in some way. Outbreak, starring Morgan Freeman, tells the story of a dangerous airborne virus threatens civilization in this tense thriller. After an African monkey carrying a lethal virus is smuggled into the U.S., an outbreak occurs in a California town. Sound familiar?

The Truman Show (1998)

[embedded content]

Before reality television was a thing, the 1998 Jim Carrey film predicted that the world would be watching other people live their daily lives for entertainment purposes. Hell, the Kardashians built a billionaire dollar empire off the Truman illusion. Stay woke.

You’ve Got Mail Online Dating (1998)

[embedded content]

Before Okcupid, Tinder and Match.com were a thing, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks found love via the Internet thanks to good ol’ AOL messenger.

Back To The Future II (1989)

[embedded content]

When Marty McFly traveled from 1985 to 2015 , viewers got a special glimpse of what the possible future would look like, through Robert Zemeckis’ eyes. Lo and behold, 40 years later and we’ve came, saw and conquered the whole hoverboard wave.

Spongebob (2000)

[embedded content]

Spongebob and crew may live in Bikini Bottom, but they may have been a tad more advanced than us land folks. Plankton’s wife was a talking computer way before we knew who Siri or Alexa was. Makes you wonder if Karen is the mother of intelligent assistants.

Star Wars

[embedded content]

Holograms went from being seeming impossible, to being a common thing these days. But no one believed that we’d be able to watch holograms of deceased celebs performing. Especially when the concept of holographic technology made its first appearance in the 1980s classic Star Wars Strikes Empire Back.

Dick Tracy (1946)

[embedded content]

Since its first comic strip appearance in 1946, Dick Tracy was the cool with all the swag. But it was his technologically advanced watch that made him so special. Maybe Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple drew some inspiration from him for their Apple Watch.

Little fires

Source: Erik Voake / Stringer / Getty

As the entire world is quarantined and practicing social distancing, now is the perfect time to check out some of the newest content being released on streaming services.

On Tuesday, HULU dropped the first three episodes of Little Fires Everywhere, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Celeste Ng — which follows “the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.”

The highly anticipated series stars Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, both of whom act as Executive Producers of the series. Y’all, this show may be the best thing since sliced bread. And everyone is talking about it. Reese told Variety:

“When I read the book, I just thought it was a beautiful exploration about different kinds of mothering. And I thought nobody would be a better scene partner or partner at behind the scenes actually, truthfully, than Kerry. She’s known as such an incredibly professional person, but she’s also a lot of fun.”

Kerry added:

“We knew that the novel was so much about identity and how identity impacts relationships, how you think about yourself, your sexuality, your class, your geography, how those things impact how you parent, how you make friends, how you work in the world. So, I think adding a layer to that complexity with race is really powerful,.”

Everyone involved in the show, from the characters to the writers to directors, should be expecting to take home some trophies next award season.

Here’s why Little Fires Everywhere is the best show on television.

1. Kerry Washington & Reese Witherspoon is the television duo we didn’t know we needed.

2. Dives deep into race and class relations, and how it affects our daily lives

3. All the tension will have you on the edge of your seat for the entire episode

4. Proves that we’re all humans who want the best for ourselves and our kids at the end of the day

5. Lexi Underwood is a STAR

6. Everyone has a different story and perspective on how life should be. Just like in IRL

7. In depth storylines and well rounded characters. Layers, layers, layers!

friday the 13th on a calendar

Happy Friday the 13th!

The unlucky day, also known as Black Friday, leaves a lot of people so paralyzed with fear, they neglect their normal routines. The superstitious day is bad luck derived from triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number 13, and the idea that Friday and the number 13 have been considered dark and unlucky since the Middle Ages. And with all that’s happening in the world right now, there seems to be some slight truth to this myth.

The sinister tone of the day may be one of the reasons the Friday the 13th film franchise has been so successful. The movies follow a group of camp counselors who end up becoming the target for one hockey-masked serial killer: Jason. There have been 12 films in the horror film franchise ranging from 1980 to 2011. One of the film’s stars, Amy Steel, best known for playing Ginny (the camp counselor who fights off Jason) is now 55 years old, which means she’s survived multiple Friday the 13ths.

Here’s what Amy looks like now:

Another famous camp counselor, Kevin Bacon, has had a very successful career ever since starring in the horror classic.

Now he’s the central character in 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

It’s been many years since we’ve seen these characters, but on a day like today, it’s pretty normal to binge the old films and wonder what the cast has been up to. Hit the flip to see more stars from the Friday The 13th franchise.

Megan Thee Stallion

Source: Megan Thee Stallion / 300 Ent

Megan Thee Stallion’s civil suit against her label 1501 Certified Entertainment is far from over.

The Houston record company – and its head, Carl Crawford – filed court papers asking that the rising rapper’s civil suit against them grind to a halt.

The label just filed a motion to stay Megan’s case and have her allegations of fraud, bullying and more be decided by a private arbitrator.

Lawyers for the label filed court papers March 11 asking for her case to be put on hold indefinitely because their contract says that she can’t sue the label if they disagree over it.

If the judge approves the case going through arbitration, the outcome may never be made public.

1501 said Megan willingly entered into an artist’s contract with the company two years ago, and under the terms of that deal, any disputes between them would be settled privately through arbitration. Crawford and 1501 contend that having Megan’s case proceed would violate their artist’s agreement and the law. They believe even if Megan’s fraud claims against them are true, everything still needs to be hashed out in private.

Meg sued Crawford and 1501 earlier this month, alleging they had her sign a bad deal, are harassing her online, are jealous of her Roc Nation management deal and out to ruin her career. Last week, Megan got a court order that allowed her to release new singles, S.U.G.A. and “Captain Hook.”

A judge has yet to rule on the motion.

DipSet U.S.A. And Agenda Present: Cam'ron And Jim Jones

Damon Dash never plays around when it comes to his money and his art — so when Cam’ron said the former Roc-A-Fella head “smacked” Harvey Weinstein on the set of Paid In Full, we believe him.

We’ve known about the alleged smackdown since Paid In Full hit theaters in, but when The Diplomats dropped their 2017 single  “Once Upon a Time,” — Cam threw hella shots at the controversial Hollywood producer, rapping:

No disrespecting the ladies, word from my team

That’s the reason Dame smacked Harvey Weinstein

On the set of Paid In Full, y’all gave him hell about it

Some foul shit happened once, Capo, tell ‘em about it

Surprisingly enough, Dash never bragged about this important moment in Dame history. However, he did admit to having issues with the Weinsteins while filming Paid In Full back in 2002. He told TMZ:

“Somebody definitely got smacked on the set of Paid In Full. But, you know, I’ve never really liked the way Harvey treated my culture. I didn’t like the way he talked to people and I didn’t like the way he was treating my film.”

Of course, Weinstein himself never spoke about the incident. But little did we know, he had much bigger skeletons in his closet.

On Wednesday, after months of deliberation, the former TV producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another. Buzzfeed News reports:

Weinstein was facing a maximum of 29 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of first-degree criminal sex act and third-degree rape on Feb. 24. They acquitted him on the most serious charges of predatory sexual assault that carried a possible life sentence.

A spokesperson for the New York State Department of Corrections added: “Weinstein will be held at Rikers Island until he is deemed ready to be transferred to the custody of the state’s corrections department after which he will be incarcerated in a state prison facility.”

Justice was served today.

2019 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Weekend 2 - Day 1

It’s about time that Tierra Whack starts getting the #respeck that she deserves. The 24-year old Philly native has been putting in that authentic work for several years now, and it seems as if folks are just now starting to hop on the Whack Wagon.

Her unique and delightful style, intense and profound lyrics, mixed in with her creative visuals and superb confidence puts Tierra in a league of her own. I mean, she got to be featured on Beyonce’s Lion King: The Gift album. ICONIC.

Earlier this week, the upbeat rapper graced the cover of Teen Vogue and dished on everything from finally being noticed for her talent and colorism in the music industry.

“I recognize [that] I am dark. I remember being younger and being teased for my skin being darker. My mom, she just was always there like, ‘You have to love yourself.’ Seeing Lauryn [Hill] and then seeing Missy [Elliott] — they were making it. I don’t think Missy was like, ‘I’m going to be a dark girl making it.’ I think she just did it. You just do it… If I could change [colorism in the industry], that would be really nice.”

Little does she know, just by showing her beautiful face and unapologetically rocking her unorthodox style makes young dark girls everywhere feel like they can too.

“I just want to do what I feel inside and make it work to the best of my ability and whatever comes with it, comes with it. I can’t change how I look. That’s how I showed up, in my dark skin. I dress kind of cool. Either y’all gon’ take it or not.”

Luckily for Tierra, she’s coming up in a time when brown and dark women are running the game. We get to see Normani, SZA and Megan Thee Stallion on the cover of Rolling Stone, while Whack blesses Teen Vogue and other femcees like Rapsody and Dreezy are out here doing their thing ATSDT.

Hit the flip for more cool, colorful pics of Tierra Whack that put color prejudice to shame.
