Y’all better stop playing with Ari!

Ari Lennox is so fed up after a run-in with podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho that Complex reports she swore off interviews and ever visiting MacG’s native country of South Africa. The R&B singer appeared on his Podcast and Chill show where a question about very sexy lyrics one of her songs called “Pop” turned into an ambush that left her feeling blindsided. “And where are we at right now? Is someone fucking you good right now?” MacG asked.

The 30-year-old was obviously shocked and uncomfortable with the question while the host simply continued laughing. “Oh my god. Wow! That’s a wild question,” she said. Why ask it that way? Whoa.” He brought up her own lyrics to justify coming at her sideways with that personal question. Despite the inappropriate turn, Ari tried to push through it and finish the interview like the professional she is.  After the interview, the “Pressure” singer took to Twitter to share her frustration with the unacceptable situation.

“I’m just like…why was I alone on a call full of people? Why didn’t anyone intervene?” she wrote on Friday. “And why wasn’t parts of the interview destroyed like the team promised? Why did it happen to begin with? I just feel slow and ambushed and blindsighted. Just because I happily and freely sing/write about sex don’t make any kind of creepy disrespect warranted. I clearly was in immense shock and hate that I didn’t react differently.”

MacG is known for catching guests off-guard with controversial questions, but that doesn’t mean Ari should have to put up with this kind of treatment. Although she is known for being down-to-earth and accessible, this moment was the last straw. After repeatedly getting trolled for her looks and even bullied online for enjoying her trip to Ghana, Ari is going the Beyoncé route and shutting down interviews for the foreseeable future.

“I’m tired of the narrative,” she wrote. “Exhausted. I’m good I promise. But as for interviews I’m not doing them anymore. There’s enough lives and interviews out there already. … I’ve been my most happiest creating music and exploring life sober. I’m not allowing anything to tamper with my peace anymore.”

Publicly checking MacG and everyone involved in the interview wasn’t enough. Ari called out everyone making comments that defended the disrespect. In response to a comment saying, “If you hate being treated like a piece of meat then stop marketing yourself as a butchery,” she swore off ever stepping foot in the whole country. It sounds a bit extreme, but who wants to visit a country full of people telling you that you deserve to be sexually harassed or even worse for putting out songs with sexual lyrics? Hard pass!

“South Africa! Y’all got it!!! Heard you loud and clear. This won’t be a place I will ever visit,” she wrote. “Really got grown men justifying rape and predatory culture. Disgusting.”

Hopefully, a break from social media and interviews is just what Ari needs to focus on the follow-up to her instant classic Shea Butter Baby album.

Just three days ago, Regina King’s son, Ian Alexander Jr., was celebrating his 26th birthday and sharing his excitement online about his upcoming show.

The news of his untimely death took Hollywood by shock and several celebrities, local community leaders and fans continually send their condolences to Oscar winner actress Regina King and her family.

Activist and daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., Bernice King, shared her condolences on Twitter.

Kid Cudi chimed in on Twitter and wrote, “My heart hurts for Regina King and her family. God please watch over them.”

Zoe Saldana also chimed in on Twitter and left her condolences.

Regina King and her son shared a unique and close bond that was apparent any time he joined her on the red carpet or at an award show. During his last appearance with her at the 2019 Golden Globes, Ryan Seacrest asked Ian what it was like having Regina as a mom and he simply said “She’s just a super mom!”

“She doesn’t really let bad workdays or anything come back and ruin the time that we have,” he said. “It’s really awesome to have a mother who I can enjoy spending time with.”

Regina was often quoted during interviews and acceptance speeches saying that her son Ian, was her greatest accomplishment.

Ian also regularly opened up about the pair’s close bond, writing in an Instagram post commemorating King’s 50th birthday last year that she was “the greatest gift.”

“Happy birthday to my co, so extremely proud of you and inspired by your love, artistry, and gangsta! To be able to watch you take this lifetime by its neck and make it yours is something i will forever be grateful for,” Ian wrote.

“But to have you as my mother is the greatest gift I could ask for. To be all that you are while always having the time to be there, love and support me unconditionally is truly remarkable. The whole marvel universe ain’t got s— on you, your the real superhero! Love you mom! This day and everyday YO DAY!!”

The two shared matching tattoos that read “unconditional love” in Aramaic and Regina was a huge supporter of her son’s music and artistry.

Just last week King took to Instagram to urge her fans to listen to her only child’s new single, Green Eyes. He also just recently released another song on Spotify entitled, Work It Out.

In Work It Out, Ian sings: “The pain can’t go with that / This pain got me feeling bad. Your love is oh so fake / How long does it have to take.”

Ian was due to perform at the Avalon Hollywood Bardot on January 28.

BOSSIP is sending sincere condolences to Regina King and all of Ian Alexander Jr.’s family and friends.

Former singer Nicci Gilbert wants the producers of P-Valley to pay up!

BET Awards 2016 Arrivals

Gilbert strongly believes that the hit STARZ drama ripped off themes and characters from her 2011 musical Soul Kittens Cabaret.  Now she’s officially taking producers from the hit TV show to court. According to The Jasmine Brand, Gilbert, who you may know from the former 90’s girl group Brownstone, has slammed STARZ with a massive lawsuit, and she’s seeking “statutory damages” in addition to a jury trial.

The playwright told the publication that she had originally pitched her musical stage play as a spin-off series to Lionsgate in 2014, well before P-Valley was on the air. Gilbert claimed that some of the characters on the show shared similarities to the characters in her play, including one named TaTa Burlesque, a transgender club owner.

“I would see all these stories. There was a woman who did my hair–I believe her name was Lawanda–everybody in Detroit probably knows her. She was transgender. It was my first example of, like, a transgender person,” she explained, noting how the characters were heavily inspired by people in her hometown of Detroit.

“The story is about a TaTa Burlesque, who owns this burlesque cabaret risque venue in the city, it’s been around forever,” Gilbert continued. “There’s the spirit of previous dancers there as well. A new girl comes from out of town–middle of nowhere–she comes in and auditions for him and they embrace her but it’s a bunch of stuff that goes on.”

Now, if you’re a fan of P-Valley, you might be familiar with the show’s central character, Uncle Clifford, the non-binary club owner of The Pynk, a strip club in the Mississippi Delta. Ring any bells? Gilbert said she took so much pride in developing all of the storylines in her play, which is why she says she was totally taken aback when she discovered some eerie similarities in P-Valley.

“Obviously, I was really proud of the fact that this was the first time–this is 2004, remember–that a gender-fluid character that was so loveable and so open and so real, which is what everybody loves about the current situation. I was really proud of being someone who wrote a character that people hadn’t seen like that. There are a lot of other little nuances, such as the girl being super shy and not really in that space and the lead dancer who’s been there for a while who’s like, ‘when I leave here, I’m going to open up a women’s center.’”

Gilbert didn’t give any additional information about the status of the lawsuit, but the star, who is the mastermind behind TV One’s reality show R&B Divas, said she knew she had to stand up for herself and her ideas.

“I knew how important it was to fight for what you believe in as a creator. As a woman of color, so often we’re beat down into being, ‘just don’t say nothing, everybody’s going to think you’re a horrible person.’”

She continued:

“The reason I decided to go forward…I realized that young women have to not be afraid, creatives have to not be afraid. It’s the court’s decision…but I truly believe that I deserve to be heard.”

Currently, P-Valley fans are eagerly awaiting season two of the hit show, but some are wondering if the ongoing lawsuit will affect the forthcoming season. This is a lot! Do you think there are some show-stealing shenanigans going on with P-Valley? Tell us down below.
