Where did your accent go, Buckwild?

This could’ve stayed in the drafts, sis. You know it’s bad when you’re following Joe Rogan on a non-apology tour to prove how “not racist” you really are. After years of criticism for clout-chasing with a caricature based on Black stereotypes, accused appropriator Awkwafina addressed the issue head-on (and then totally side-stepped it) in a statement she posted to Twitter on Saturday.

The Marvel star got roasted online when she fumbled a question about the long-standing controversy during an interview for Shang Chi back in 2021. Notice how this interview, like several appearances she made after the fame and checks grew substantially, lacks that urban flavor she claimed was an organic extension of growing up in Queens.

The comedian, whose real name is Nora Lum, started her message with a lesson about the importance of “the historical context of the African American community” and how it has been “disproportionately affected by institutionalized policies and law enforcement policies.” Ok, maybe she has been listening to feedback on how she leaned on AAVE (or African American Vernacular English) with her breakout roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8.

“All the while having historically and routinely seen their culture stolen, exploited and appropriated by the *dominant* culture for monetary gain, without acknowledgment nor respect for where those roots come from, the pioneers of its beginnings and the artists that perfected and mastered the craft,” she wrote.

Mentioning that people generally exploit Black culture without actually acknowledging that she’s made millions of dollars doing the same thing is as close as she got to an apology. After a vague promise to “always listen” and “work tirelessly to understand” the nuances of using AAVE, she skipped right over admitting her mistakes to double down on her innocence.

“But I must emphasize: to mock, belittle or to be unkind in any way possible at the expense of others is: Simply. Not. My. Nature. It never has, and it never was.”

Is this rehearsal for her acceptance speech at the NAACP Image Awards? The rest of the statement lists the “fine line between offense and pop culture”, the “internet Tik-Tok slang generation”, and her “immigrant background” in the explanations and excuses that fill up the other half of her statement.

“I think as a group, Asian Americans are still trying to figure out what that journey means for them, what is correct and where they don’t belong,” Nora wrote. “And though I’m still learning and doing that personal work, I know for sure that I want to spend the rest of my career doing nothing but lifting our communities. We do the first by failing, learning, acknowledging, hearing and empathizing and I will continue tirelessly to do just that.”

It’s funny that the New York native leans on her Asian immigrant background because she told Vice doesn’t play about minstrelsy when it comes to her own culture.

Right after the statement, Nora tweeted that she will be “retiring from the ingrown toenail that is Twitter.”

Plenty of Nora’s enablers rushed to reassure her that she did nothing wrong and had no need to apologize. Her critics quickly noticed that’s who she will really “always listen” to. Her favorites are full of mostly non-Black people accepting her non-apology on Black people’s behalf.

This unsolicited statement left everyone with more questions than answers because no one was holding their breath for her to say a whole lot of nothing.

The people who tried to patiently and respectfully continue the conversation Nora said she was open to, she blocked them instead.

Most people simply wanted her to take accountability and drop the offensive act and over-the-top name, not barging into Black History Month with this mess.

Do you buy Nora’s explanation of the blaccent accusations or is it too little too late?

Can I get money back if a show is postponed? What are the COVID requirements? What if I bought from a third party seller? All your questions answered.

Letitia did that, so you don’t have to go through that!

If you’re a Run the World fan waiting to find out what will happen to Ella, her comeback as a writer after her first book flopped, and spinning the block with her ex who came back from overseas, don’t hold your breath. Deadline reported that leading lady Andrea Bordeaux “opted to leave the series” after couldn’t reach a compromise with Lionsgate Television, which produces the series and requires all crew and cast members to be fully vaccinated.

However, the actress responded on social media, claiming that the article got it all wrong because she didn’t actually leave the show by choice.

“Despite what the article says, I did not opt to leave the series and Lionsgate made no efforts to find a workable solution. I was fired,” she wrote on Instagram with a screenshot of the Deadline story.

The actress reflected on how much she loved being one of the leads for the first season of the Starz comedy.

Getting the opportunity to play Ella on #RunTheWorld was an absolute dream come true. I would have loved to continue to grow with this delightful character and having to come to terms with this sharp turn in my life, my dream, and career these past several weeks has been heartbreaking beyond words. I have so much love for the cast and crew of ‘Run The World’ and will miss them. I wish you all the best. Swipe for a few of my favorite memories. 💔”
Bordeaux shared a message of encouragement to the unvaxxed and unwilling, who will probably be unemployed for refusing to get the vaccine.

“My heart is with all of the people around the world who feel that they are losing so much due to their choice to stand in their convictions and to honor their deepest core beliefs. What I know for certain is that when you are leading with your heart and honoring the path that Spirit has laid out for you, nothing can be taken away that will not be returned 1000 fold. I surrender to that with profound Peace and Joy and I encourage you to do the same.”

Several fans are disappointed that Bordeaux following her heart meant fumbling the bag or putting hundreds of cast and crew members’ health at risk by refusing to get vaccinated. Black people and the unvaccinated have been disproportionately infected and killed by this virus. What’s not clicking?

“There is no work around. Stop trying to play the victim. You knew the protocols but you chose your so-called ‘convictions?’”

“The way these actors don’t even think about the position they are putting a whole production of ppl in with this bullsh*t. You know how quick a Black show will just get cxl cuz of this and ALL those folks out of a job. Over a f*cking shot that has already saved so many.”

It is unclear how the show will handle Ella’s prominent storyline without Bordeaux, but they have no plans to recast the character. Run the World is one of many productions losing beloved characters and actors now that vaccines are standard COVID safety protocols on Hollywood productions.

The Starz series’ remaining co-leads co-leads Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb and Corbin Reid are still expected to return for season 2 of the show.

MacGyver “MacG” Muhwevho, South African host of the online series Podcast and Chill, had to put his ego aside and apology to singer Ari Lennox.

Mac G visited the Higher Learning podcast with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay where he was confronted about his actions.

“I want to sincerely apologize for that question and how it made her feel, and the aftermath of everything that came after that interview dropped. I’m not a malicious person, I don’t hate anyone, I don’t hate women. Our podcast is very inclusive.”

Last month the podcaster asked her a distasteful and tacky question about her sex life during a now-viral interview. Once the clip hit the web, podcaster MacG was torn into pieces.

Not long after the interview ended Ari Lennox took to Twitter to express how she felt “ambushed and blindsighted” by MacG’s question which she referred to as “creepy disrespect.”

While some fans sided with the Shae Butter Baby singer, others thought MacG’s question was appropriate and justified. Other journalist like Charlamagne Tha God and Joe Budden weighed in with their opinions as well. Joe called MacG a “shock jockey” while Charlamagne Tha God sent him a DM which read:

“I want to keep you from making the same mistakes I did on the come up. You represent a country I love. There is power in your words. We especially have to do better by our queens”.

MacG also acknowledged other women he may have offended during his recent interview with Higher Learning podcast. He explained that being raised by a single mother taught him to have the “utmost respect for women.”

“I would like to genuinely apologize to Ari and any other women out there I might have offended with those comments because that’s not what I’m about,” he added.

While Lennox has yet to address MacG’s apology, she did have the pleasure of celebrating her first Billboard Radio No. 1 chart-topper with her hit song “Pressure.”

Do you think MacG was in the wrong or do you believe Ari Lennox overreacted? Let us know below!

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player, Antonio Brown and Kanye West have been buddy buddy lately and with good reason.

It’s all because AB has officially signed on to Ye’s Donda Sports, which focuses on providing “professional and wellness support” to athletes.

In a recent interview the star player stated “I’m just grateful for the opportunity here soon, to share what we’ve got with the world.”

“Former NFL Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl champion Antonio Brown joins Donda Sports where he will join Ye and Justin LaBoy to bring an athlete’s perspective to all aspects of the organization,” the statement reads. “Donda Sports was founded with the vision of providing holistic support to athletes during and beyond their sport’s [sic] career.”

“We’re just excited about the Donda sports brand, and making this thing a competitive sports brand to the athletes,” Brown said in a recent interview. “I don’t think there’s a lot of fashion lines for athletes, wearing fashionable and comfortable clothes, so with a guy like Kanye West, being able to partner with him and work with him to provide more creative, genius ideas for fashion looks for athletes in general…”

Even though the pair seems like the perfect match many spectators were curious to know how the two connected and established this new found brotherhood. In a recent interview with Complex, Brown explained how it was by the grace of God that he and Ye connected.

“It was just by the grace of God,” A.B. said. “I was at Craig’s [restaurant], having dinner in LA with Rich, my guy at Fashion Nova. And I ran into Kanye randomly at Craig’s. We got haircuts at Craig’s. It was totally out of the blue, and we just started hanging out in LA. We’ve got a lot of positive things coming. It’s just been an amazing week for me. I’m sitting here with Mr. Tim at Amazon Music right now, having a meeting, so I’ve been grateful for the last 21 days.”

The organization put out a statement earlier this week following the news.

“Donda Sports was founded with the vision of providing holistic support to athletes during and beyond their sports career,” the statement reads. “Donda Sports is a limitless organization centered on professional and wellness support in equal measure with the ambition to work with athletes across all genders, divisions and sports.”

Kanye West has garnered a positive rep with the sports world lately. It started with the early buzz surrounding his basketball academy. Ye’s Donda Academy houses Chicago’s top high school basketball players on its home team, the Donda Doves. The team is scheduled to play its homecoming basketball game today. The team also covered SLAM Magazine 236th issue, making Ye the second rapper ever to cover the respected basketball magazine after J. Cole.

In all seriousness are we the only ones wondering how Justin LaBoy went from being a troll on IG to now making huge business deals with Kanye West and Antonio Brown? Our guy took great advantage of his 15 minutes of fame!

Do you think stepping into the sports industry is a good move for Kanye West? Let us know below!

Would y’all ever think of Vivek from “grown-ish” as marriage material?

His character might be far from ready for a serious relationship, but when BOSSIP spoke with Trevor Jackson, Jordan Buhat and Diggy Simmons about how their characters Aaron, Vivek and Doug have grown over several seasons of the hit Freeform series, Jordan revealed he’s had major life changes after getting married during the course of the series’ production!

It’s definitely not a secret. Jordan has been openly posting about his marriage to his wife Lucy for years now.

The couple have been married for two years now and will celebrate their third during this season of the show!

Which makes it even more interesting to hear Trevor and Diggy talk about their personal growth. While we are indeed curious about who will get these other two fellas to settle down — we’re definitely not rushing them. After all — even Jordan admitted it hasn’t always been easy!

Have you been watching “grown-ish” for the Cal U kids’ grad year? We’ve really been loving watching Diggy’s character Doug grapple with his attraction to Luka’s sister Kiela. Trevor’s character Aaron has also had lots to deal with, between finally getting his shot (and blowing it) with Zoe and juggling his new position after graduation with his political leanings.

A little about tonight’s episode — Ana faces a real dilemma when police ask her to ID the driver of a hit-and-run she experienced and Aaron gets a push from a freshman to make their midnight class a special one. Kiela and Doug also face a new obstacle with their relationship.

“grownish” airs on Freeform Thursday nights at 10PM EST with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.

The Detroit rapper made the ballot Wednesday in his first year of eligibility — which means the odds are in his favor he’ll get inducted this year.

The new Broadway musical “MJ” that celebrates the career of the late Michael Jackson is certainly worth seeing, but it’s not special.

The legal fight for the stage name “Lady A” is over. The band formerly known as Lady Antebellum and blues singer Anita White have ended their lawsuit.

British band Bastille releases its fourth album, “Give Me the Future,” on Feb. 4. Produced by Ryan Tedder, the album was influenced by science fiction.
