If you’re as passionate about food as we are and you don’t know about Roy Choi — we HIGHLY recommend you start following him and his show “Broken Bread”
Broken Bread follows Choi as he explores complex social justice issues through the lens of food – including gentrification, cultural erasure, and the corporate takeover of food and farming – and celebrates the people who are making big changes to the current food landscape, what is eaten, and where communities gather. He will meet inspiring individuals and organizations who challenge the status quo and use food as a platform for activism and a catalyst for change, including Chef Wolfgang Puck, Restauratrice & Food Activist Alice Waters, Artist Chuck D., Journalist Patricia Escarcega, and Artist Six Sev.
Our Sr. Content Director Janeé Bolden spoke with Roy Choi about the new season of “Broken Bread” and how the last two years have reshaped the restaurant industry and redefined food culture – as well as his solution based approach to creating change.
Once you’ve watched “Broken Bread,” it’s easy to see a similarity between Choi and Anthony Bourdain, especially in the way they relate so well to others despite what might seem like extreme differences in background.
“Anthony Bourdain helped the world see the world through travel,” Choi told BOSSIP. “In a way we’re doing the same thing but we’re doing it through the lens of activism and highlighting stories that never get told, stories of marginalized people, people of color, immigrants. It’s about us, It’s about putting our stories out there, letting our voices speak for themselves. Using all the tools and privileges I’ve been able to earn and put that in there so that the art of it can go toe to toe with anything but the content is stories that never get put onscreen. We wanted it also to be a show of positivity, hope, inspiration but we don’t want to shy around any of the problems. We want to pinpoint the problems and show people on the ground really making a difference.”

In addition to hosting “Broken Bread,” Roy is co-host of the Netflix cooking series, “The Chef Show,” with Jon Favreau.

We’re not sure whether to blame Kanye for this too or nah.
We’re pretty sure by now y’all have seen the clip of Kim Kardashian showing off her three favorite cars — a Lamborghini Urus, her Ghost Rolls Royce with “the cutest little crystal lady” and her absolute favorite baby, her Maybach sedan… Well it turns out the clip is part of a longer video Kim filmed for VOGUE’s “Objects of Affection” YouTube series. In the video, Kim walks the magazine through her cream home — which she reveals miraculously hasn’t gotten messed up by her four children. She also discloses that the kids are free to decorate their own rooms in full color/theme to their liking but the main house is very minimal and neutral because she finds it calming.
Next, Kim introduces us to artwork that North has created via her hobby — which happens to be painting. She’s very talented and has an array of artwork to show for her efforts, including a very gothic picture that she made while she was home sick with COVID. Poor kiddo!
Kim also shares that she does very detailed scrapbooking for all four kids, and even shows some of the contents of North and Saint’s scrapbooks. It turns out that she got the bug for archiving everything from her parents and also reveals a trunk her mom, Kris Jenner, had made for her with individually packaged keepsakes from all of her birthdays up until age 10. There’s also hair from a haircut her dad gave her, as well as a Minnie Mouse costume that Kim was obsessed with. Kim takes the cameras outside for a tour of the backyard, which includes an all black basketball court and a “meadow” where the kids can pick and eat their own fruit. Then there is the coup de grace — the viewing of the luxury fleet. There’s only three cars there but we’re guessing Kim’s got a couple more stashed away since these are her absolute faves.
What was your favorite of Kim Kardashian’s favorite objects?
We’re gonna go with Northie’s art — that’s way more impressive than a Lambo or Maybach!
What do you think about Kim’s minimalist taste?
Buckeey’s got a baby on board!
BCK Online reports Love & Hip Hop Miami star Shay Johnson announced that she’s pregnant by posting her beautiful baby bump on the cover of Kontrol Magazine. Check out the gorgeous pics of Shay draped in crimson and gold velvet like a queen!
“I have kept this secret for months but I am now proud to announce I am pregnant with my first child. I’ve wanted a baby for so long and it is finally happening. Thank you @kontrolmag for sharing this moment with me. Thank you to all of my friends and family who kept my secret and made sure this moment was everything I wanted it to be. I’m excited to be a new mom and start my new journey with my new blessing,” she wrote.
Shay didn’t just have a massive party to reveal her baby bump and the magazine’s Mompreneur issue cover. She had one more surprise. Watch the expecting entrepreneur countdown to the gender reveal while rocking a gorgeous gold gown covered in hearts and surrounded by her loved ones.
We know what those pink fireworks mean!
“ITS A GIRL!! I’m going to be a mommy,” she wrote on another breathtaking Instagram post. “So excited!!!”
Fellow LHH Miami star Bobby Lytes was right by Shay’s side to celebrate her blessings on blessings on blessings.
The reality TV veteran’s baby is even more of a blessing because she struggled with fertility issues. Back in 2019, she bravely posted about it in big bold letters to educate other Black women, who are most likely to face the same reproductive health problem: FIBROIDS.
“Uterine fibroids are lumps that grow on the uterus,” Shay explained. “Most cases the lumps/tumors are benign meaning non cancerous.
Even the non-cancerous fibroids cause a long list of debilitating symptoms and Shay seemed to suffer from all of them.
“I had every last symptom X’s 10! Other symptoms included my anemia which increased because my iron was extremely low do to heavy long extended menstruals. My menstrual would last up to 14 days. When I was normal it was it six days. I was also advised at the rate my tumor was growing it would affect me having children.
“Not only that,” she continued, “I started hemorrhaging and fainting which at that point I needed blood transfusions. This was the worst. I understand how common fibroids are in women but unfortunately I had a very bad case worse than average. I felt like something was growing in me bigger then a softball and it was growing monthly. I couldn’t sleep most nights as it got worst.”
Shay fought most of this battle in silence, even depriving herself of relationships because she didn’t want to burden anyone else. In 2018, BOSSIP reported that Shay was hospitalized for serious health issues, but no one outside of her inner circle had any idea of how serious and how long she was enduring these symptoms from fibroids.
After a myomectomy to remove the grapefruit-sized growths in her uterus, Shay shared her story with others an ambassador for the USA Fibroids Center. Leading up to the gender reveal, the reproductive health advocate mentioned taking eight pregnancy tests because she couldn’t believe her dream of having a baby was coming true.
Congratulations, Shay!
