Alicia Scott Of Range Beauty Talks About Inclusivity
A standout moment came when BOSSIP’s Lauryn Bass had an exclusive sit-down interview with Alicia Scott, the CEO of Range Beauty, to talk about the ongoing conversation around inclusivity in the beauty industry.

With the rise of beauty influencers, such as Golloria George, calling out big brands for their lack of inclusivity, especially when it comes to darker skin tones, the discussion has become more urgent than ever.
Golloria George, a beauty influencer and advocate for colorism awareness, has been making waves on social media by testing the darkest shades offered by major beauty companies. George’s viral Instagram videos have highlighted a glaring issue: many of these shades are either not dark enough or simply don’t cater to the needs of Black women.
In her recent statements, she openly criticized beauty brands for creating products that claim to be inclusive but fail to meet the needs of women with darker complexions. According to New York Magazine’s The Cut, George’s advocacy has sparked a larger movement, with many influencers joining her in demanding true diversity in beauty products.
With this in mind, BOSSIP’s Lauryn Bass approached Alicia Scott, a true disruptor in the beauty industry, and asked her thoughts on the matter. Bass, a fan of Scott since her debut on Shark Tank, started the conversation by asking her about her knowledge on this matter.
BOSSIP: Are you familiar with beauty influencers recently calling out brands who aren’t being inclusive with shade ranges? With your brand, Range Beauty, do you have any comments about what you’ve seen online on social media or any other thoughts?”
Scott, known for her commitment to providing inclusive products for all skin tones, didn’t hold back in her response. She explained from her own experience, that big brands who aren’t being inclusive are just making excuses.
Source: L-R) Kayla Nicole, Raven Tracy, Alicia Scott, and Haile Rose /Paras Griffin / Getty
Scott: “When I first started Range Beauty, I started it with $150 dollars and I created about 21 shades of brown. So whenever I see these brands come out and say that they don’t have the funds to create range, or they kind of do it as a play like ‘Oh, we’ll just go back to the lab,’ it’s like—no. If you wanted to include us from the first launch, then you would’ve if you wanted to prioritize us. And I think the biggest thing is, Black women outspend any other group when it comes to makeup and skincare. Yet, we’re constantly being underrepresented and underserved. So for me, I’m always making sure that I prioritize and give my dollars to brands that prioritize us.”
Scott’s response hit home, echoing the very same frustrations that Golloria George and other beauty influencers have been vocal about. That is what the Essence GU Summit is all about; making sure that Black Women push back and disrupt the norm.
The underlying issue is not just about the lack of inclusivity but also about the intentional decisions brands make when they choose not to cater to women of color. For Scott, who started Range Beauty with limited resources but made inclusivity a priority from day one, the excuses from larger brands simply don’t hold up.
Lauryn Bass continued the conversation by asking Scott how she’s navigating the ever-changing beauty industry, particularly as economic challenges have affected how brands operate. Bass wanted to know what advice Scott would offer to aspiring beauty entrepreneurs trying to break into the industry in this current climate.
Scott’s advice was practical and powerful:
“My biggest advice is making sure that you’re truly honing in on building your audience and trying to create true traction. For me, a big financial source is grants and pitch competitions. Make sure you’re applying to these grants—it’s free money, especially if you’re Black and brown. They want us to have these funds to launch our brands and push them forward. So again, strong audience, strong traction, strong bookkeeping, and applying to these grants.”

Scott emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation and taking advantage of the resources available to Black entrepreneurs, particularly those that focus on helping underrepresented communities. Her words were a reminder that in an industry where Black women are often overlooked, there are ways to create opportunities for success.
As the conversation wrapped up, it was clear that Alicia Scott remains a driving force in the movement toward inclusivity in the beauty industry. Her commitment to representing Black women in all facets of her brand is a shining example of what true inclusivity looks like. In a world where beauty standards are still largely shaped by brands that fail to cater to darker skin tones, Scott and Range Beauty are leading the charge for change.

As previously reported Lewis, 51, initially shared her initial breast cancer diagnosis in a 2020 Instagram post, where she explained her decision to avoid mammograms for years due to concerns about radiation exposure.
Now she’s sharing a sad update about the cancer spreading in her body.

PEOPLE reports that in a recent discussion with CNN’s Stephanie Elam and anchor Sara Sidner—who was also diagnosed with stage III breast cancer earlier this year—Lewis opened up about her choice to forgo surgery after her initial diagnosis.
Lewis went on to say that she initially pursued homeopathic remedies, a new diet, a healthier lifestyle, and medication. Though she experienced some improvement, her condition worsened in 2023, when she discovered her cancer had spread.
Reflecting on her decision to decline a double mastectomy, Lewis emphasized the importance of maintaining her quality of life. “I want to want to be here, so I had to do it my way,” she explained.
As for Sidner, she chose to have a double mastectomy.
It’s unclear if Ananda is undergoing radiation now.
In an Instagram comment, she noted her excitement about having the important conversation timed around Breast Cancer Awareness month.
In 2023, Ananda was also a guest on Amanda Seales’ “Small Doses” podcast where she discussed the holistic approach she was taking to her healing.

#RHOP Predicament: Gizelle Bryant & Ashley Darby Defend Decision To Kick The Ladies Out Of Their Event, Think The Grand Dame Stirred The Pot
CELEBRITY NEWS, NEWSBossip Video
Gizelle Bryant and Ashley Darby are standing by their decision to send their Real Housewives of Potomac co-stars packing after they arrived four minutes late to their benefit event supporting the National Brain Tumor Society. The reaction on social media has been mixed regarding their controversial choice amid the dynamic duo expressing their GNA aggravation.

In a sneak peek clip of #RHOP episode three, which is set to air Oct. 20, tensions flare between Darby, Bryant, and their co-stars—Stacey Rusch, Wendy Osefo, Keiarna Stewart, Mia Thornton, and Jassi Rideaux—after the group rushed over in a sprinter van from Karen Huger’s Femme Powered event, where the 61-year-old star was receiving an award. They arrived just in time to support the event honoring Bryant’s late father, who lost his battle with a brain tumor, but they were four minutes late.

Rusch, Osefo, Stewart, Thornton, and Rideaux thought they were doing the right thing by supporting both causes. They arrived at 8:04 PM, with enough time to enjoy the gathering until it wrapped up at 9 PM. However, instead of gratitude, they faced hostility and were asked to leave the venue immediately.
Darby stayed quiet during the confrontation, but as the ladies headed back to their van, she unexpectedly followed them with a QR code for donations to the National Brain Tumor Society. Rusch, Osefo, Stewart, Thornton, and Rideaux sped off feeling “offended” and angry.
#RHOP Preview Shows Gizelle And Ashley Defending Their Decision
Gizelle and Ashley will provide more insight into their clash with their co-stars in the forthcoming episode. In the teaser, Bryant expressed her frustration over her co-stars attending Huger’s event, highlighting the emotional significance of her father’s death and its impact on the benefit.
Darby followed up with her own theory, suggesting that Huger “knew what she was doing” when she intentionally and, shadily, reminded the ladies to attend her Femme Powered event on the same day.
Social Media Reacts To Gizelle & Ashley Kicking The Ladies Out
As fans anticipate how the situation will unfold in the next #RHOP episode, many have taken to social media to express their opinions on the heated exchange. Several users supported Bryant and Darby for ejecting their co-stars, arguing that they should have prioritized attending the event for its worthy cause. Many criticized Huger for scheduling her event on the same day, with one user declaring it was “absolutely wrong.”
However, some felt that Bryant and Darby overreacted. A number of users labeled Darby as “tacky” for soliciting donations after sending her co-stars away.

50 Cent is the latest legend taking their talents to Sin City for a massive Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood.
One of the best parts of visiting Las Vegas is the slate of performers you can catch while on vacation for a night of live entertainment. For several years Usher has been shutting down Vegas nightly with back-to-back residencies to start the decade. Adele also took her talents to Vegas with a highly successful residency hosted at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Get Your HBCU Homecoming Fits Together
First things first, you gotta get your fits together. Are you going for comfort, trying to be extra, keeping it low-key, or do you want to be prepared for all the things? You already know the weather in the south, where most of these HBCUs are located, can be all over the place. It’s cold, then hot and humid and then cold again so keep that in mind when you’re traipsing from the tailgate to the after parties.

Conduct Your Relationship Audits
Have the conversations you need to have with yourself and significant others, if it applies. Don’t be tripping down memory lane and getting caught up with an old toxic boo thang at your HBCU homecoming. And don’t make the mistake of taking a new piece down to your alma mater too soon in the relationship. If you’re single, then mingle away, but be safe.
Work Your Plan
It’s safe to say that every HBCU probably heard some variation of your “it isn’t my emergency” or “to be early is to be on time,” blah, blah blah. The point is, you have to have a plan in place…or not. But just know, it’s a good idea to know what events you want to go to, and who you’re going with, because there’s a lot going on, you might need to fit in some nap time in between the game, the concert, day parties, and that midnight brunch. Not to mention that tickets usually sell out for all the main events. If you’re not a planner, do you on a wing and a prayer.

Learn Your Lyrics And Dances
You know what songs they’re going to play. There are always regional sets and generally popular sets, depending on age group and what alumni group you’re hanging with. Plan accordingly. Learn the lyrics to the songs that get everybody hype and do you know how to do the Tamia line dance yet?
Remember Your Well-Being
Covid is still going around, and it’s also flu season so get up to date with vaccines, and if you’re not into vaccines, then do what you need to do to function. At the very least, stay hydrated, and keep in mind that alcohol is not hydrating.
However, don’t forget to treat yourself. Save some room for the low vibrational plates.

The 84-year-old surprised a lot of fans when he welcomed a child last year, with many criticizing the actor for becoming a father again at such an old age. Now, his youngest son is 16 months old, and the senior loves being a dad, saying Roman is part of the reason he wanted to write an autobiography.
The Godfather star sat down with the BBC to talk about his autobiography, Sonny Boy, where he revealed that he’s been loving being a father to his son Roman, whom he co-parents with ex Noor Alfallah. Pacino says that fatherhood has been “extraordinary,” and even though he and Alfallah are no longer together, the actor still communicates with his son.
Despite saying that part of the reason he wanted to write his autobiography was for his youngest son, the star also shared that he does want to stick around for Roman’s major life moments.
Pacino and Alfallah, 30, welcomed Roman in June 2023. Ahead of the baby’s birth, an insider told PEOPLE how excited the actor was to become a father again, saying “Al loves being a father and always has.”

Diddy’s legal team adds … “In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone — adult or minor, man or woman.”
As we reported … Buzbee filed six lawsuits against Diddy earlier Monday, with each one accusing him of sexual assault.

Four of the accusers were men, including one who claims he was just 16 years old when Diddy fondled his genitals at a White Party in the Hamptons.
Buzbee is likely to file more lawsuits in the coming days and weeks … and he’s hinted at suing other celebrities too, though that’s yet to happen.
Diddy’s awaiting trial in his federal criminal case in New York … where he’s also maintained his innocence.
SMH: Deaf Black Man Charged With Assaulting Officer After Cops Strike And Tase Him For Not Responding To Commands
NEWSBossip Video
A deaf Black man in Phoenix, Arizona is facing charges of assault against a police officer after he was attacked by police for failing to comply with commands he couldn’t hear.

According to AZ Central, 34-year-old Tyron McAlpin was arrested on Aug. 19 by officers Benjamin Harris and Kyle Sue, who were called to a Circle K near 12th Street and Indian School Road by employees who wanted Harris removed from the premises. Body camera footage shows that Sue and Harris spoke to an employee outside of the store who claimed McAlphin assaulted him.
And that’s where it all went downhill.
From AZCentral:
The video footage shows Sue striking the back of McAlpin’s head while his partner continues to bark orders at McAlphin that he can’t hear. Harris shouts more forcefully at McAlpin as if the volume of his voice would make a difference, and when it doesn’t, he begins to punch McAlpin with closed fists. Harris then pulls out a taser and shoots McAlpin while he’s still being beaten by Sue.
McAlpin was charged with aggravated assault against an officer, and a probable cause hearing was held on Oct. 1, during which Harris testified that if McAlpin had indicated he was deaf, the incident could have been avoided.
Apparently, we’re all supposed to ignore the glaring fact that the incident also could have been avoided if cops weren’t so quick to resort to violence the second their commands get ignored, especially when dealing with Black citizens. If the officers weren’t so eager to start striking and tasing McAlpin because their little blue egos got bruised by a seemingly non-compliant suspect, it might have occurred to them that McAlphin failed to respond because he couldn’t hear them. I mean, deaf people and people who are hearing impaired are everywhere, and cops are a danger to them if they’re going to react violently to not being heard.
Of course, unsurprisingly, the court didn’t see it that way. Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Nick Saccone determined that, based on the body camera footage and the testimony of Sue and Harris, there was sufficient evidence for the felony charges against McAlpin to move forward.
It’s unclear if there is any investigation underway to determine if the officers involved in the stop used excessive force, but we probably shouldn’t hold our breath.

More than a year after his unexpected hospitalization, the actor and comedian is finally feeling comfortable enough to tell his story. Foxx opens up about his 2023 health scare in his vulnerable one-man show, One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx.
On Oct. 14, the 56-year-old took to Instagram to share photos from his show in Atlanta, writing, “God is good…. As I post these pictures, my heart and my soul is filled with nothing but pure joy.”
He continued,
In the pictures, the star’s emotions are palpable, he’s seen burying his head into his arm in one photo and hugging a guest in another.
Foxx revealed last month that he would be opening up about his journey during a one-man show in Atlanta.
The actor was hospitalized in April 2023 due to an unspecified health emergency and has shared little information about the situation since. Back in July, a video made its way through social media showing the star opening up some more to fans, saying it all started with a “bad headache” on April 11.
After that, Foxx said he “was gone for 20 days.”
‘You’re Not Pretty Enough’ Aoki Lee Simmons Quits Modeling Over Comparisons To Supermodel Mom Kimora Lee Simmons

Aoki Lee Simmons announced that it’s a wrap for her modeling career after constantly hearing that she’s “not pretty enough” amid comparisons to her iconic mom, Kimora Lee Simmons.

Like many other 22-year-olds, Aoki is going through it! After overwhelming rejection and cold-blooded criticism, she’s getting out of the game. Despite years of elite experience and growing up in a fashion empire, it sounds like she doesn’t have much motion. TMZ reports Aoki vented about the professional pivot in a recent video posted online.

This isn’t the first time Aoki was ready to tap out. As BOSSIP previously reported, she announced a break from modeling this summer because of an experience that was “dark AF.”
She swore off “any kind of fashion week unless I’m mentally prepared for it and feel loved and supported. The last one ruined my mental health.” Aoki clarified that she could handle basic rejection because “that’s life,” but she took the “genuine cruelty” personally.
What will she do instead? Don’t hold your breath on her becoming a full-time influencer or reality TV star yet like a lot of celebrity seeds. The Harvard alum decided to put her Ivy League degree to work. The political science major has both beauty and brains. She graduated last year at the age of 20, making her one of the youngest Black women to graduate from Harvard.
It says a lot about how rough things are that Aoki could look at this political landscape and still decide it’s easier than the modeling industry. And the toll it takes on self-esteem.
If Aoki isn’t pretty enough, then who is?
The BCBG baddie referenced advice from her mother about walking away before revealing how much thought she put into it. The next steps include “taking the foreign service test so I can get back into international relations, which is what my degree is in.” Until then, she’s determined to “finish strong” and make mama proud.
Kimora previously revealed initial concerns about her baby girl following in her high fashion footsteps. After all, the OG has endured the severe criticism since she was only about 10 years old. Still, she taught Aoki that rejection is part of life, whether she modeled or not.
Even if she gets dragged for it, Aoki keeps it real about what’s on her mind. Hopefully, she can put it at ease with a career away from the catwalk.
