Botham Jean was in his home, minding his business, and eating a bowl of vanilla ice cream when then-Dallas police officer Amber Guyger burst into his apartment with her gun drawn and shot him dead. Let her tell it, she didn’t realize that she was actually one floor above her apartment and believed that Jean was an intruder. Guyger made an irreversible decision and was subsequently found guilty of murder and was sentenced to ten years in prison.

According to NBC News, the consequences and repercussions of Guyger’s actions are not done manifesting themselves. A jury of her peers has ordered the convicted felon to pay $98 million in restitution and damages to Botham Jean’s family. A court form obtained by NBC News states the jury found that Guyger acted with “malice, willfulness, or callous and reckless indifference” for Jean’s civil rights and general safety. For that, the awarded $60 million to the family. Additionally, the jury added another $38 million in compensatory damages for mental anguish, loss of earnings, and more. The Jean family was only seeking $54 million in damages, and the jury made a powerful statement by nearly doubling their ask.

“They had to put it in monetary terms,” Allison Jean told reporters. “I cannot feel it in monetary terms because I know how precious he was to me. But it sends a signal to the world that his life mattered.”

Botham’s father, Bertrum Jean, also addressed the public.

“We will miss our Bo dearly,” he said. “I can’t stand the thought of him not being around. But his memories, the wonderful things he did in this life, this gives me joy. And (to) know that he was loved by so many, this gives me joy.”

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Jean family.

The holidays are almost here, which means many merry movies are coming our way — but Netflix has already set the bar high this season with the November 6 arrival of their film Meet Me Next Christmas.

Christina Milian And Devale Ellis Star In Netflix Holiday Rom-Com ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’

The film stars Christina Milian as a Layla, a beautiful woman who has become suddenly single right before Christmas after catching her boyfriend creeping. Determined to turn her holidays around, Layla remembers forming a connection with a handsome stranger James (Kofi Siriboe) whom she met the previous December during an airport layover. The pair bonded over the Pentatonix in the airport lounge and pledged to meet at the group’s concert if they both ended up single the following Christmas. So Layla embarks on a quest to reconnect — the only problem is the show is sold out. This is where Teddy, a charming concierge steps in. Layla hires Teddy’s concierge service to help her get tickets — but with time running out the pair find themselves in one crazy predicament after another until the inevitable happens and Layla finds herself having to decide whether it’s James she really wants or Teddy who is right for her!

Check out the trailer below:

BOSSIP Sr. Content Director Janeé Bolden spoke with Christina Milian and Devale Ellis just days after the release of Meet Me Next Christmas to discuss the Pentatonix, their belief in fate and rising to the challenge of their onscreen dance scene. The pair were on a high from their feel-good film, which both Ellis and Milian have been enjoying on repeat at home with their families. We asked them about filming a holiday movie that’s about two single adults finding love.

“To be honest it felt good because love cures all right? Devale told BOSSIP. “When everything is going wrong, if you could find love in the midst of turmoil you can find anything and in this turmoil, that adventure that we call Meet Me Next Christmas we find love. One of my favorite scenes I always say is when Christina is running through the street and you got ‘Hallelujah’ playing in the background and she’s in slow motion and she’s running. But the best part was her face before that when she realizes, ‘ I Love Teddy!’ That’s a moment that — I’m in the movie and I’ll be like [Ellis fakes tears] ‘Go get Teddy Layla!’

“The romance and the romantic comedy part, we checked all the marks,” Milian added. “When we were shooting the film we had to make sure that they had more Christmas. I think that was actually the bigger deal. When we were shooting we were like, ‘Are there enough lights? Are there enough trees? There has to be that Christmas magic. We got the connection with the chemistry and all the different people but make sure we get a lot of Christmas and so it was nice seeing it. We had the Pentatonix of course.”

Speaking of the Pentatonix — Milian and Ellis were both enthusiastic about the film’s incorporation of the popular harmonizers.

“I think we all we all know there’s pretty much like 3 artists people go to — it’s Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men and the Pentatonix for the holidays,” Ellis told BOSSIP. “My dad loves the Pentatonix so he was like, ‘You’ll be in the movie with the Pentatonix? I was like, ‘Chill out, chill out. Yes, they’re going to be in the movie with me, alright?”

“It’s great because people what they have with them is the sense of nostalgia,” Milian added. “I was aware of their music. I’ve heard their songs before. I heard about people going to their Christmas shows, but it wasn’t until I got the script and saw this great concept about trying to get these tickets to this Pentatonix concert that I really dived in. And it’s like ‘OK let me just check out their whole world,’ because it’s almost like they have their own little club, which I’m sure has gotten much bigger since the movie. So I feel like we’ve been let into the club. They’re fantastic.”

‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ Stars Christina Milian And Devale Ellis Perform A Dance/LipSync Routine In Film

The pair also spoke about their incredible performance scene in the movie, with both Ellis and Milian confiding they were nervous despite Milian’s pop superstar status.

“I was nervous,” Devale admitted.

“I was nervous,” Milian said.

“You was not nervous! She’s not telling the truth,” Ellis interjected.

“You know what, he was learning it so fast, and he was just like dancing in some Santa shoes, I think the first day he might have came in Timbs, but he came ready to go and it’s very cute to see it in person and then on the film. It’s fun because you really get to see kind of guys like let go like that. Me, you’ve seen it before but then you see the character with Teddy but I think it’s really it’s heartfelt and it’s light and it’s fun.

“Shout out to Rusty and the whole team and JJ putting everything together,” Ellis added. “That was our choreographer. She was on us.

“We only had a couple days, like three days and then next thing you know we were shooting it a couple weeks later,” Milian said.

Christina Milian And Devale Ellis Believe Fate Is Real

Fate is a huge theme in Meet Me Next Christmas, initially because Layla is sure the connection she made with James in the airport lounge was so strong she believed there must be more to it. It turns out Teddy was also in the lounge that day and also had an interaction with Layla. It turns out the actors are believers just like their characters.

“I believe in fate,” Milian said.

“I do too,” Ellis added. “I dropped my cup on the floor and then one dropped in her bag and then randomly a year later I ended up being her concierge — yeah I think it’s definitely fate that Layla and he had run into each other before in the same time that she also met James.”

“Yep so you know love was giving her some choices,” Milian added. “But you know Teddy came through at the right time. He was right by her side to try and make the other thing happen. It’s fun to see — it’s fate, the fact that she sees the cup at the house and she’s like, ‘Ohh my gosh,’ she puts the two and two together. I’m a firm believer in fate. Even in life, I’m like things are kind of meant to be and I feel like the circle of life, like people around me, just gets smaller. I could be in another place in the whole entire world and have just met somebody maybe, and maybe just a few weeks later, that I’ve never met in my life and all of a sudden I’m like in Japan and France or something at like dinner and I run into them. Like what are the chances of that?”

Those experiences are so real right?! If you haven’t already checked this project out it’s a great watch with the family or your significant other.

When it comes to dating, Keke Palmer is being realistic about what she expects, financially, from her partners.

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - November 20, 2024

Source: TheStewartofNY / Getty

During a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the star talked to host Shannon Sharpe about how she handles money in her relationships. After opening up about becoming a millionaire at just 12 years old, Keke admits that her situation is a strange one, so she doesn’t hold others to that same standard.

“To expect everybody to have become a millionaire at 12, and learn money management, and have a business manager at 12, to me, just seems not realistic,” she began. “I started working, 10, 15 years before most of my generation had their first job. I don’t hold people to those standards.”

Palmer went on to joke to Sharpe: “If I wanted somebody that made as much as me, this would be a date and not an interview.”

Ultimately, the NOPE actress is looking for a lot more than just money in a relationship, especially since that’s something she can already provide for herself.

“When it comes to guys our age, every now and then you might find somebody that’s out there makin’ it, but most of the time…my mom and dad they went 50/50 all my life, so when I hear some of the stuff that people is saying about relationships and dating, I’m just kinda like, ‘I don’t know how that’s gonna work, but maybe I’m trippin’,” she explained.

Keke continued. “I don’t need you to pay for everything for me, I actually prefer you not to, I’ll let you know when I would like for you to spend something.”

This comes just one day after Keke discussed her co-parenting relationship with her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson with Gayle King on CBS Mornings on Tuesday.

The star was asked about how she’s been able to get to a better place with Jackson, with whom she shares son Leodis, 1. In response, Palmer says both of them have been focusing on showing up for their little one, and though she didn’t think it would work out, she’s happy it has.

“I gotta be honest, I would’ve never thought that I would be where I am now, and so I’m very grateful that this has now been the outcome and we’ve been able to coexist in this way and show up for our son, and just be in a different place. It’s a real blessing,” Palmer said.

As for how she’s managed to do that, Keke has one word: “Boundaries.”

“I don’t think I had enough of ’em,” she admits. “I think boundaries, and I talk about that a lot in the book. People cannot respect boundaries you don’t have and sometimes it’s hard to make boundaries with people you love. And that’s something that I’ve always struggled with. I talk about it so much in the book, with my Christian background and the concept of forgiveness and how that means I show up for me and show up for others.

“And when I had my son, it became clear that I needed to create boundaries and I needed to have hard lines with the people in my life,” Palmer concluded.

This week Gladiator II arrives in theaters and we spoke with one of the film’s most iconic actors, Denzel Washington about his role in the project as well as his work bringing August Wilson’s plays to screen.

Director Ridley Scott reimagines Rome at it’s most decadent and dirty for Gladiator II an epic story that picks up decades after the death of Maximus, continuing the saga of power and vengeance. The story follows Lucius (Paul Mescal) who is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical twin Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

BOSSIP’s Sr. Content Director Janeé Bolden spoke with Denzel Washington about his role as Macrinus, Master of gladiators.

Washington’s Macrinus is a cunning manipulator. Throughout the film he is occasionally playful, while also managing to be menacing. After earning his own freedom from slavery as a gladiator, Macrinus has amassed a great fortune and is strategically climbing the rungs power on a path that threatens to destroy the empire altogether.

As huge fans of Washington, it’s an absolute delight to watch Macrinus at work. We asked Denzel which tools he was most excited to put to use for this particular role.

“All of my tools. 48 years of experience — you know, from The Emperor Jones until now,” Washington told BOSSIP, referring to his early forays into college theater.

“The power behind the throne is kept by any means necessary,” Washington added, when asked about portraying the Roman strategist, who rose from slavery to the highest ranks of Roman society. “It was true then and it’s true now.”

Since Washington is famous for “leaving with something” we had to ask him what he left the Gladiator II set in Morocco and Malta with.

“An experience of warmth, of beautiful people,” Washington revealed. “A lovely fellow and and his wife were helping take care of me and she was making me good food, and great fish dishes, and just lovely, lovely, lovely people. Beautiful, beautiful islands.”

It’s a big month for Washington, whose latest August Wilson production The Piano Lesson arrives on Netflix the same day as Gladiator II opens in theaters.

“The greatest gift I was given by Constanza and the August Wilson Foundation or estate was the stewardship, if you will, of these plays and for me it’s the highlight of my career,” Washington said of his work bringing August Wilson’s plays to screen. “It’s the most important thing in my career right now and I hope August is pleased. He is my Edward Albee and he is my Tennessee Williams or any of the other great writers. I think he’s one of the greatest writers in the history of American theater and it’s an honor just to to be asked to be a part of his legacy.”

Gladiator II is in theaters November 22. Will you be watching?

LisaRaye McCoy is airing out her former friend turned foe, Nicole Murphy, for being part of the downfall of her marriage to Turks and Caicos politician Michael Misick. In a candid interview with Carlos King released on Nov. 19, the 57-year-old actress revealed that she had “proof” of Murphy, the ex-wife of comedian Eddie Murphy, having an affair with her then-husband and according to the actress, the former Premier confessed to the affair himself.

When asked about how she discovered Murphy’s creeping, LisaRaye claimed that she “had checked the Manifest” of her private plane shared with Misick at the time to find the 56-year-old producer and fashion brand owner’s name listed as a previous passenger.

“We owned the plane, and so when you check that list, it says all the people that have rode on the plane, and she didn’t ride on it with me, nor did she receive an invitation from me,” The Player’s Club star told King at the 1:02:34 minute mark of the podcast interview.

I tried to call her…At first, she said ‘No, I haven’t been to Turks and Caicos…’ and then I called again and she stopped answering.”

LisaRaye Allegedly Received “Proof” Of Murphy & Misick’s Cheating

When Murphy failed to fess up, LisaRaye said she went to Murphy’s then-boyfriend, Michael Strahan for answers. The former NFL star-turned-morning news anchor said he was unaware of Murphy and Misick’s sneaky flight to the island, which at the time, LisaRaye claimed to have proof of the duo boarding the plane to Turks and Caicos thanks to a tape she had received. She allegedly sent the evidence to Strahan.

According to LisaRaye, the tape allegedly showed Murphy dropping Misick off at the private airport in her car, further fueling her claims of their secretive relationship.

“They opened the gate and they pulled up to the plane and she gets out, and he gets out, and I go, ‘Oh I didn’t know y’all knew each other — and I’m gonna leave it right there,” the Hollywood veteran told King with a serious face.

LisaRaye said she was so pissed off by Murphy’s actions that she came close to “whopping” the celeb, but she has since matured significantly over the years. The betrayal was especially painful for the actress, as Murphy had attended her wedding and bridesmaid party, further deepening the sense of betrayal.

“For me, it was like, wow. I’mma whoop your a**…friends don’t do that. That’s something that I think an enemy [would] do,” she said. “Where I come from? Southside of Chicago that’s an a** whooping. I just had too many other things going on, but I can’t say that I didn’t try to get her. She said some old dumb s*** and I was like, ‘Who you talking to you?!’ I had to let her know that I am not the one or the two.”

Murphy has long denied the accusations of infidelity with Misick, but according to LisaRaye, her ex-husband eventually admitted to the affair. He confessed that he and Murphy had slept together “about two or three” times during their secret meetings.

While the incident didn’t immediately end LisaRaye’s marriage to the former Turks and Caicos Prime Minister, it served as the catalyst for their eventual split, which culminated in their divorce in 2008. Murphy’s relationship with Michael Strahan also didn’t last long. After getting engaged in 2009, the couple remained together for another five years before ending their relationship in 2014, according to The Jasmine Brand.

This Isn’t The First Time That LisaRaye Has Called Out Nicole Murphy

In 2019, the Hollywood star doubled down on the accusation during an interview with TMZ, when asked by the outlet.

“That’s true, absolutely true. She messed around with my husband,” the All of Us alum stressed. “We’ve all done something we regret but when you do it and start being messy enough to do it to family?! I don ‘t know if she’s a homewrecker or not but I know what she’s doing to homes is wrecking it.”

LisaRaye also took aim at Murphy for kissing renowned director Antoine Fuqua, who is married to actress Lela Rochon. The photo of them sharing a kiss while on a business trip to Italy quickly went viral, sparking widespread speculation. Murphy later apologized, insisting that the kiss was innocent and blown out of proportion, explaining that she was simply a family friend of both Fuqua and Rochon.

“I’ve been in that situation before—but amongst friends?! I definitely confronted her, she know it. I ain’t got s*** to say to Nicole,” LisaRaye added of the eyebrow-raising situation.

The actress also revealed that at one point, Nicole tried to be cordial and wave at her, and she confronted her to her face.

“She waved at me, and I was thinking, ‘Who is she waving at?! She not waving at me!’ And so I went to go ask her, ‘Did you try to beckon me over here?’Cause here I am!”

While going into further detail, she noted that she’d like to put the topic of her Nicole Murphy beef to rest.

“It’s nothing that I’m proud of, but it happened and it happened to me. […]You know I would love to put it to rest, maybe after this I can,” said LisaRaye. “But when I look at my wedding pictures and I see my bachelorette party and I see her there, it makes me go, ‘Girrrrrrl you better be glad I am still maturing even now because I could really, you know…you know?”

What do you think about LisaRaye’s Carlos King interview? Is it time for her and Nicole Murphy to hash things out?

Quincy and Christian Combs are trying to shut down the man profiting off of Kim Porter’s alleged tell-all book.

Christian, 26, and Quincy, 33, are doing their best to protect their mother following her death in 2018. Together, they sent a cease and desist letter to a man named Courtney Burgess and his attorney Ariel Mitchell in response to Kim Porter Tell It All, a book that was sold online under the pseudonym Jamal Millwood. The 60-page book is purportedly based on a collection of the late model’s diary entries, and following the cease and desist, it was removed from Amazon’s online store on Tuesday.

In the letter obtained by TMZ, the brothers say they became the rightful heirs and owners of Porter’s intellectual property rights following her death; therefore, her alleged diary entries belong to them.

Burgess did multiple interviews to promote the book, claiming it was an “original unedited” copy of her diary/memoir. He claims to have gotten a flash drive from people who were close to Porter, printing it without any edits to produce the book. Quincy and Christian are denying that, saying the whole flash drive tale is “patently false” and misleads the public. But, in the letter, they say that if it were true, the flash drive would belong to them.

“We were made aware of a dispute regarding this title and have notified the publisher,” a spokesperson for Amazon confirmed to USA TODAY in a statement on Thursday. “The book is not currently available for sale in our store.”

Quincy and Christian’s letter warned that Burgess has five days to shut down the online sale of the book, stop doing interviews, and turn over any of Kim’s possessions he claims to have before taking legal action. They’re also asking for an accounting of any money he’s already made off the book.

Jaleel White paid a visit to Tamron Hall to promote his new memoir Growing Up Urkel.

White revealed that his character Urkel served as a bridge between the cast and the show’s all-white writer’s room.

First of all, did y’all know this about the Family Matters writers room? Do you think the show would have had the same kind of run with a Black writers’ room? It sounds like it might not have worked if they hadn’t incorporated a character like Urkel or an actor like Jaleel!

White also spoke with Tamron about how life really started for him after Family Matters. In the clip below he discusses being in college and riding a private jet with Denzel Washington to attend an NBA Finals game when he was supposed to be studying for his finals.

We can only imagine how tough it must have been not having friends who could relate to his level of success. It seems like transitioning from being a child actor is one of the most difficult experiences for most people. We’re just happy that Jaleel continues to have such a great attitude toward life.

Everyone knows Mama Tina don’t play that!

Beyoncé’s mom was quick to defend her superstar daughter after consistently cantankerous conservative commentator Candace Owens shared a report alleging that the Grammy-award-winner was paid a large sum to attend and endorse Kamala Harris during her Houston rally in October.

Owens made an expose report on her Candace Owens podcast account, alleging Beyoncé was paid $10 million to appear at Harris’ rally where she spoke in support of the Democrat. However, Knowles shut the rumor down on Instagram, calling Owens’ story a ”lie” and “fake news.” To prove her point, she attached a photo of the Republican’s expose report that was taken down for a false information violation on the social media platform.

“Sadly other platforms with a lack of integrity still have it up,” the 70-year-old matriarch revealed.

Knowles claimed that the “Texas Hold ‘Em singer” “did not receive a penny” for speaking at Harris’ historic presidential campaign rally. According to the star, “Bey paid for her flights” and for her team to attend the event.

“They are not only lying and disrespecting Beyonce’s name but they are trying to further discredit the power of our vice president! When do the lies and rumors stop? Of course, you won’t see this in the news !!!!!” she added.

Candace Owens Clapped Back At Tina Knowles

It wasn’t long before Owens, 35, hopped into the comments section to go toe-to-toe with Bey’s momma.

“Foremost, Beyoncé needs to stop posting from her burner account,” the right-winged podcaster and conspiracy theorist kicked off her clapback, according to a screenshot shared by The Neighborhood Talk.

“Also this is not the flex she thinks this is. Foremost— my post literally said ‘allegedly’ and named the multiple publications that reported it. They ALL reached out to confirm the alleged amount, multiple times, to both Beyoncé and Kamala campaign and were met with silence,” the infamous star continued.

Owens went on to accuse Beyoncé of using her “hyper-privileged connections at Instagram” to have the post removed.

“People share untrue reports on me all the time— do I call Mark Zuckerberg? Sending your literal mama to defend you as opposed to just responding to journalists asking for answers (like Cardi B did when I asked her) is childish af. Cardi answered immediately and I included her response in my show. Beyoncé has gotten so rich, she’s acting st*pid,” she added.

The controversial media personality’s sharp response drew in a slew of reactions from the BeyHive, Beyoncé’s dedicated fanbase. Many were happy to see Knowles stand up for the famous singer.

“If her mama wants to clear her name then she can, that’s her daughter tf,” wrote one user in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk’s post. “And if Beyoncé is using her mom’s account to clear her own name then oh well; stop speaking on people.”

Another user penned;

“This is exactly why Beyoncé doesn’t talk to people. Who has time to be going back and forth with Candace Owens? She wants to be accepted so bad by the other side. Ms. Tina did exactly what a mama bear would do. My kid may not say anything but I will.”

A third BeyHiver suggested that Knowles and her daughter take legal action.
