Ahead of the highly anticipated and debated “RHOA” season 14 premiere tonight at 8 pm ET/PT on Bravo, Kandi Burruss-Tucker told PEOPLE  to expect the unexpected from both new and returning cast members.

In an exclusive interview, the OG Housewife promised that they’re delivering with the popping new energy that the fans have been demanding. ”

It’s fresh. Now, we got new blood on the show. Everybody is just different,” the 45-year-old said.

In addition to Olympic track and field champion Sanya Richards-Ross joining the line-up, longtime friend of the show Marlo Hampton finally got upgraded to a full cast member. Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams passed on their peaches this season, but fan-favorite Shereé Whitfield is back from another break alongside Kenya Moore and Drew Sidora.

“Everybody has to bring it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been there a long time or a short time. Everybody has to be open to sharing and keeping it 100 at all times and not trying to hide your life, not trying to change and save face to protect your brand,” Kandi explained. “You just have to be who you are and hopefully the people will love it, that’s just how it is.”

What else can fans look forward to with the new and improved “RHOA? Drew glowed up her glam after some seriously shady comments last season, we’ll finally meet Marlo’s mom, Shereé is back like she never left with mysterious MCM Tyrone,  and she’s revealing the real story behind those “September… spring-summer” joggers.

Marlo Hampton’s First Season As An Official Housewife Means There’s Drama To Come

Even with the new energy, there’s still plenty of drama and still old rivalries to settle, especially when it comes to Marlo.

Kandi was one of many wondering why Marlo never got a peach since joining the show 10 seasons ago, but that doesn’t mean the two didn’t butt heads. The singer said they had a season 14 moment so ugly that, “I don’t know how they’re going to edit it because… the language. We were going crazy on each other.”

Between the beef turning into an epic blow-up with Kandi and Keny announcing that she retired her title as the villain of “RHOA”, it seems like Marlo inherited the “villain scepter” from the beauty queen.

However, the long-overdue Housewife recently told Entertainment Tonight she’s really the “hero of the season” and Kenya’s true colors never changed.

“So she came in lighter, brighter, and I picked up the scepter for the villain? More like, I came in here as the hero and I’m keeping everyone’s peaches juicy and sweeter!” Marlo joked. “I think Kenya’s a little delusional. Seriously, I’ve come to that conclusion. Because you will see yourself —  I’m not even going to the bad mouth her — as this season reveals, you’re going to see the true Kenya.”

Clearly, the new friendship we saw growing between Marlo and Kenya last season didn’t last. At least Marlo says she eventually settled her differences with Kandi, who she says is like a sister to her.

“We had a disagreement. It was bad, but guess what? I got us some chicken wings from KFC and she was alright. We made up!” Marlo said.

Here we go again!

It might be time for DaBaby, whose legal name is Jonathan Kirk, to change his rap name to DaDefendant because once again the rapper is in trouble with the law.

TMZ reports that the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office charged the rapper, who was named as a defendant in that bowling alley beatdown with DaniLeigh’s brother, with felony battery for allegedly attacking a man who tried to stop a music video from filming on his property.

Back in February of 2021, BOSSIP reported that Gary Pagar filed a lawsuit against DaBaby for assaulting him when he tried to kick the rapper and his entourage out of a rental home back in December 2020. Pagar claimed the rapper’s team violated the rental contract by inviting at least 40 more people than the COVID-19 restrictions allowed at the time and using the property to film a music video.

Pagar says when pulled up to the luxury L.A. home he confronted DaBaby and his massive entourage in the middle of a video shoot. It went down exactly how most confrontations with the North Carolina rapper usually go. The 65-year-old claims someone in the crew attacked him before DaBaby allegedly interrupted with a sucker punch that knocked out his tooth. Pagar also said the men chased him through the house and stole his phone when he tried to call the cops. Part of the incident was caught on camera, showing a man pushing Pagar to the ground.

DaBaby usually gets out of legal trouble as easily as he gets into it, but he might not be so lucky after allegedly beating up a white-haired white man this time. In addition to this new felony case, BOSSIP reported earlier this week that a newly released video from the 2018 fatal shooting of Jaylin Craig is possibly bolstering claims that the DaBaby was the aggressor in the situation and didn’t fire his gun in self-defense as he claimed.

Until his unbelievable luck runs out, DaBaby should be grateful he’s as booked and busy as his legal team. After allegedly assaulting fans, women, an old man, his baby mama’s brother, and even his own artist, he’s got to be running out of people to run up on.

Summer may be right around the corner, but it’s Tina Snow season!

Megan Thee Stallion’s long-awaited first performance at Coachella did not disappoint. The rapper dominated the California festival’s legendary stage on Saturday with her signature swagger, sexy costumes showing off her famous thick thighs, and Olympic-level twerking. In addition to performing a long list of rap hits and popular collaborations, like “WAP” and “Savage,” Pitchfork reports Megan blessed her fans with a new heavy-hitting song during the set. Check out Meg’s first performance of the unreleased new banger, “To Whom The F*ck It May Concern.”

Sounds like Megan’s money-talking alter-ego Tina Snow is most definitely back exactly 3 years after making her Hot 100 debut with the Pimp C-inspired persona on “Big Ole Freak.” It’s been less than 24 hours and the quotable lyrics are already making their rounds on thousands of posts and picture captions.

“Ladies, love yourself ’cause this s**t could get ugly! That’s why it’s f**k n***as, get money

And I don’t give a f**k if that n***a leave tonight, because n***a, that d**k don’t run me”

If this is the song Meg mentioned earlier this month that gets women hype when they hear it, the hint makes perfect sense now. We have an early contender for song of the summer right here! Regardless of where the H-town Hottie stands with her boyfriend Pardi or perpetually pressed alleged attacker Torey Lanez, she’s making it clear that she stands on her own no matter what.

“I got this song that I recorded and every time I play it for a woman they start jumping and clapping,” she teased about the song on Twitter.

Talk your talk, Meg! The tough boss chick attitude and throwback energy from sampling Jodeci and Wu-Tang’s “Freak’n You Remix” reminded some fans of another queen of rap, Lil Kim.

What do you think of Meg’s new song?

Is there anything Lizzo can’t do? The short answer is “no,” and the long answer is “hell, no!”

Saturday Night Live - Season 47

Source: NBC / Getty

The multitalented and multiplatinum artist was a showstopper doing double duty as musical guest and host of last night’s Saturday Night Live.” Vanity Fair reports Lizzo brought the high energy, flute-playing, and spontaneous twerking we know and love to the classic comedy show, but more importantly, she brought the funny! The “Truth Hurts” singer hit the ground running with a hilarious opening poking fun at herself for never wearing clothes, “dating every little White boy in Hollywood,” and vowing to break a record for the number of times her (and Too $hort’s) favorite word “b*tch” is said on live TV.

“I even heard a rumor that I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’ baby. I have no idea where that one started! “It could be the TikTok I did where I said, ‘I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’ baby. It’s called manifesting,” she said cracking up.

In true Lizzo form, she ended with more than enough joy and self-love to share with everyone watching.

“I do love myself. Everyone should love themselves!” Lizzo said. “I love you. You’re beautiful and you can do anything. I’m proof of that. “I used to live in my car. And now I’m hosting ‘Saturday Night Live!’”

Whether she was taking over a game show as a loud and wrong contestant, trying to smash on the most awkward first date, or using her twerking skills for booty-popping Beethoven with the DeVry Institute Symphony Orchestra, Lizzo cracked up the audience (and herself) in sketch after sketch. Sis needs some comedy scripts lined up for her after the album and tour. Check her out as a label exec trying to decipher the super popular and super random hit songs from the Black Eyed Peas 2008 album. The whole cast killed it, but Kenan’s Will.I.Am deserves an honorable mention.

As musical guest, Lizzo pulled out all the stops, including four beautiful dancers from her Amazon Prime reality show, “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” for her debut live performance of “About Damn Time.” Her all-women band and backup dancers shut down the stage with the catchy disco-themed new single, and the mic was most definitely on!

In a heartfelt moment introduced by Lizzo’s mom, she debuted the soulful title track from her fourth album, Special

“I’m used to feeling alone, oh

So I thought that I’d let you know

In case nobody told you today, you’re special

In case nobody made you believe, you’re special

I will always tell you the same, you’re special,” she sang in the new self-love anthem.

Lizzo closed out the show in a hoodie from her new shapewear line Yitty, which dropped this month. At this point, she’s at least a quadruple or quintuple threat at this point, and we’re so here for it!

Premiere Of WE TV's "Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition"

Yikes! Don’t hold your breath if you’re still looking for the reunion episode from Joesline’s Cabaret to air on the Zeus Network. That special might not see the light of day except for a courtroom. According to TMZ, several dancers who starred on the show filed a $25 million lawsuit against Joseline Hernandez and Ballistic Beats for an alleged brutal backstage beatdown at the season 2 reunion.

There are reality show fights with a bit of drink throwing and hair-pulling, but then there’s what Joseline was accused of doing to these dancers. Based on the lawsuit, Amber Ali’s complaints that Joseline and Ballistic assaulted her were just the tip of the iceberg. The cast members claim they arrived dressed to impress in heels for the taping, but Joseline was already prepared to ambush them in the hard-bottom boots Amber initially described.

Ali took to Instagram Live saying, “I only came to the hospital because my ribs are very bruised because Joseline had some big a** boots on and she kicked me.” In addition to severely bruised ribs, she revealed that, “Ballistic just ripped my hair off my head. He ripped my real hair out, we gon handle this in court.”

In typical Joseline fashion, she responded to the assault allegations by bragging online about the same attacks the four plaintiffs describe in the court documents.

“Keep crying from your hospital bed with your broken ribs. One kick you flew into next day. Rotten mouth a** h*e. And for you dumb b*tches when you sign up for a reality show you CANNOT file a lawsuit against anyone on the show,” Joseline wrote. “You dummies.”

Well… that last part is up to a judge to decide now.

“I mortal kombat one h*e, pimp slapped another one. Pushed one into last night’s episode. Kicked down a few on the ground. I slapped fire out of everyone on that stage. Me n my crew wait for it,” she tweeted.

Whatever was in those contracts must the TV star feeling like Teflon to flex like this! According to court documents, she kept yelling out the name of her crew, “Gucci gang.” She also shouted them out on Twitter on a picture of three sets of boots they allegedly wore during the attack with laughing emojis and “Gucci gang” in the caption.

One thing Joseline missed in her unhinged thread was Lexi’s claims that security held the dancers back during the ambush so they couldn’t fight back against Joseline and her crew.

“Security wanna hold everybody…hold them back and let [Joseline & Balistic] get their licks in. So all that sh*t that Joseline is talking about, how she kicked this b*****…that’s only because she only had security behind her.”

In addition to all of this going down on the set of the actual reunion, the claims that security was in on the attack are why Zeus Network is also on the hook for the $25 million lawsuit. Maybe that’s why fans of the show said the network was trying to upcharge for the reunion despite missing the originally scheduled air date.

Joseline and her team have not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit, but it’s just a matter of time before we hear all about the pummelling from the Puerto Rican Princess herself.

Gospel music pioneer, Erica Campbell didn’t grow up wanting to be singer. Like many black kids in the church she was forced to join the choir at the young age of eleven. She recalls the time her friend’s mom prophesied over her and her voice and promised that her vocal skills would one day pay off.

The gospel industry got introduced to Erica Campbell when she and her sister, Tina Campbell, formed the group Mary Mary in 1998 following the release of their best-selling debut album, Thankful (2000), which contained the hit single “Shackles (Praise You)”.

Word got out pretty quickly about the talented duo and a baby biding war began. The group was offered several contracts from record labels including Bad Boy but eventually signed with Columbia Records.

Erica gives credit to God for allowing her dreams to come true all while reaching success with her sister.

“We did something called the come back with Jesus in an arena with 80,000 people. They were banging on the floor going “Mary, Mary!” and I was like you let my dream come true. I’m so grateful I was able to do all that with my sister!”

Also airing on TV is Unsung Presents: The Decades is a 4-part special that tells the full story of the evolution of music, showcasing the music and artists that provided the soundtrack of Black America from Motown and disco in the 70s, to the revolutionary sound and style of hip hop throughout the 2000s.

Radio personality, Headkrack discusses JADE’s “Don’t Walk Away” song and how it became a fell good R&B track.

Sunday’s episode continues the season to highlight some of the biggest stars of the 90s and 2000s.

April Fools Comedy Jam made its way to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center, featuring comedians Rip Micheals, Nick Cannon, HaHa Davis, Eddie Griffin, B. Simone, Tony Roberts, Bruce Bruce, Michael Blackson, Joe Torry, and Jacob Williams, plus performances by Lil’ Kim, T.I., Moneybagg Yo, and music by DJ Envy.

When T.I. took the stage many in the crowd assumed he would be performing some of his greatest hits but Mr. Harris switch things up and hit them with jokes instead. Well, the jokes lead to him getting booed off stage and soon enough T.I. went viral again.

T.I. spoke to Michael Blackson after the performance on Instagram live. He made it very clear that he did initially receive boos, but claimed that he turned it around and walked off to a standing ovation after winning the crowd over.

“Man, listen, bro. I had the greatest time. I had the best set of my comic career. I enjoyed myself, bro. I love that sh*t. What I will say is a motherf*cker went into some sh*t thinking it was going to go a certain way, had to make adjustments, and then turned that sh*t around and got the f*ck out of there. I love that sh*t, bro. I love that sh*t. I’m here for that.”

Several celebrities chimed in on The Shade Room’s IG post leaving their respective opinions. Nelly commented and said, “Tell me what comedian hasn’t got booed….? Apart of earning ya stripes… that’s apart of entertainment… period..”

Tank joined the conversation and said, “Those kinds of crowds wanna hear you do what they know you for. He has to build a set that involves his music and comedy.. He’ll be fine. Speaking from experience..🙏🏾”

There hasn’t been any videos posted of him receiving a standing ovation yet but T.I. admitted that he understands that sometimes a crowd can turn. As a headstrong Libra we’re sure T.I. will continue to work at his craft of comedy and maybe one day he’ll impress crowds all over with his jokes.

The Emmy award-winning, history-making, and rule-breaking A Black Lady Sketch Show returned to HBO on Friday with a hilarious season 3 premiere. Series creator, showrunner, executive producer, writer, and star Robin Thede discussed the “epic” new season and its 40+ guest stars with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday.

“I’m living my dream. I’m making the show I’ve always wanted to make and the show that I’ve been preparing for three decades to make,” Thede said about the first-of-its-kind comedy show.

“I know I have a good team, and so, everyone around us is deadset on the same goal and that’s to make every season bigger and better than the last. I know we have done that with season 3.”

The ABLSS team features Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black, and new cast member Skye Townsendbut these aren’t the only familiar faces we can look forward to spotting. The new season starts with cameos from Holly Robinson Pete, Jamelle Hill and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez putting a Black lady twist on The Purge for the one time a year hair products that don’t work can be returned for full price. In the epic rush to the beauty supply store, Kyla Pratt gives us the episode’s ridiculously funny title, “Save my edges, I’m a donor!”

“We get to see sketches that are coming back, not only from season 2 but from season 1 that we haven’t seen,” she added about the Issa Rae-produced variety show. “So we get to see the funeral ball with Bob the Drag Queen and we’ll get to see a number of things that are in homage for characters we have known and loved for the past seasons, but also just giving love to the audience who stuck with us and waited so long to see these six episodes every year.”

In addition to appearances by Wanda Sykes, David Alan Grier, Kel Mitchell, and Michael Ealy, can look forward to the return of fan-favorite characters like Thede’s blonde hoteptress Dr. Hadassah Olayinka Ali-Youngman, Pre-PhD, and Black’s invisible super-spy, Trinity. Thede even recruited Ava DuVernay for more of the chaotic comedy.

“I am in awe of every single one of them,” the creator said about her long list of guest stars. “I’m so excited to see them — I mean, who thought Ava DuVernay would do a sketch? She was essentially playing a heightened version of herself but she had an hour to come shoot with us. I was like, ‘I got you, don’t worry.’”

“And she was like, ‘There are only two sentences in the script.’ I was like, ‘We’ll make more of it. It’s fine.’ And literally on set, I’m just yelling out jokes. I’m like, ‘Say this.’ She was like, ‘I would only do this for you. You are chaotic.’ And it was great. She’s amazing.”

Thede and her trailblazing team promise a lot more authenticity and absurdity in the bigger and better new season. Tune to new episodes of A Black Lady Sketch Show on Fridays at11 p.m. ET/PT. and streaming on HBO Max.

The slap saga continues!

94th Academy Awards - Back Stage

Source: Robert Gauthier / Getty

It’s only been 2 weeks since the slap rocked Chris Rock’s jaw and the rest of the 2022 Oscar Awards, and the fallout is far from over. After everyone from host Amy Schumer to Bill Maher has weighed in (even though literally no one asked), People reports the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences finally made an official decision on Will Smith’s consequences: a 10-year ban from the Academy Awards.

“Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation,” said a letter sent by Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson.

“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” the statement announced on Friday.

Will has already responded to the decade-long ban, saying, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

The Oscar-winning actor apologized to the Academy during his acceptance speech, publicly apologized to Chris the next day, and resigned from his Academy membership in the immediate aftermath. The latter move preemptively avoided the punishment of suspending or expelling him from the elite Hollywood group.

“I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy,” Will wrote in his resignation statement.

The length of the ban sparked accusations of reactionary and heavy-handed bias against one of the Academy’s few Black members compared to filmmakers like Roman Polanski, who wasn’t banned from the Oscars until 30 years after he plead guilty to the rape of a 13-year-old and fled the U.S. as a fugitive.

The ban already affects the future of the Oscars, preventing Will from partaking in the tradition of presenting the 2023 Best Actress trophy as the previous year’s Best Actor winner for King Richard. However, the actor will still be eligible to be nominated and win an Academy Award.

“This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy,” the announcement continued. “We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.”

As the receipts about other celebrities’ misconduct are running longer than the award show itself, the Academy has a lot more work to do now that it’s so eager to take swift action against its members for acts of violence. Even if Polanski and Harvey Weinstein aren’t similar enough examples to Will Smith’s violation (because their off-camera crimes are infinitely worse), Adrien Brody and John Wayne getting away with violence on the Oscars stage still raises plenty of questions about the fairness of this decision.

Do you think Will Smith deserves a 10-year ban for slapping Chris Rock?

Coco Jones graced our screens in the new hit series Bel Air which airs on Peacock and left no crumbs! Babygirl understood the assignment and fans everywhere are excited to see what else the talented actress/musician has in store.

Coco Jones: Atlanta "Caliber" Meet & Greet

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty

Many were introduced to Coco Jones back in 2012 when she starred in Let It Shine on the Disney Channel. Little black girls everywhere fell in love with her character, her beauty and her voice.

While her talent was undeniable and fans were hopeful for a sequel to Let It Shine, eventually nothing happened and Coco parted ways with the network. She later signed to Hollywood Records, and even went on tour with the boy band Mindless Behavior.

Unfortunately, the record label later dropped her and her dreams of becoming a super star were put on pause. Though her plan was derailed, Coco never folded and didn’t give up on her dreams. She worked diligently at crafting her skills as an actress and vocalist and soon enough took her talents to social media platforms like You Tube and Tik Tok.

Today the Bel Air superstar has over 2 Million followers on Tik Tok, 1.2 Million followers on Instagram and just recently signed to Def Jam Records. Her new single “Caliber” has the music industry buzzing and she plans on releasing a project in the near future.

BOSSIP caught up with the Tennessee native to discuss her rise to stardom, working with iconic producers, releasing new music and more! – Liz Smith

Hey girl hey! Let’s get right into it! Obviously old Hilary and new Hilary differ in many ways but what is one thing that both Hilary‘s hold true to that the girls can really learn from?

I think that is her confidence. I mean at the end of the day both Hilarys knew that they were that girl, ya know? And I love that because I really want to break that stigma that confidence is wrong. You can think you’re that girl and you can think you’re deserving of great things and not be entitled. You love yourself and that’s cute and that’s okay.

While Hilary is somewhat bougie on Bel Air you’re very down to earth, personable and authentic to your journey and who you are. Can you talk about the power of remaining true to yourself and why authenticity always wins in the end?

I do it for all the fans, for all the people who support me. I want to be able to deliver to all these people who are checking for me and who care about me. I want to make sure I’m always representing and highlighting that this journey may be long but please stick to it! Please don’t walk away because at one point it looked like this would never happen but I’m so glad it did. I always remind myself that talent started off selling at first and talent will continue to be what sells.

Alright let’s talk about the music! Congrats on being signed to Def Jam! You just released a dope track entitled “Caliber” and I knew it was going to be a smash when I heard “bongo by the way” as a producer plus your vocals…chef’s kiss. So, what does it take for a man to get on your caliber?

I like a guy that’s showing me effort, that’s showing me that energy, who makes it clear with his actions that he sees me as a prize to attain, may the best man win. If you wanna win the game, you gotta follow these rules and get on my level. It’s simple.

I saw you took part in writing this song…what does it take for you to get in the zone and create magic like this?

I want to make my songs feel the way that I feel when I listen to them. I’m trying to find that balance of what feels comfortable and authentic for me to talk about. I just need good vibes, a good time to work with and time to create.

So I also saw you were in the studio last night with a an iconic producer, Jermaine Dupri! Can you fill us in on what you guys are working on?

Yes, he’s amazing! I hope to work with other amazing producers and deliver hits to my day one fans and new fans. Like you said I worked with “BONGO ByTheWay” and I just want to be in the studio with dope producers to create magic. So stay tuned.

Now idk if you’re aware but there’s a petition going around urging Marvel to consider you for the role of Storm. One of the quotes said…”Please get STORM right. We are tired of the colorism in Hollywood,” he wrote. “STORM is a beautiful…DARK SKIN woman.” I know you’ve expressed that you want to do an action film so what are your thoughts about this?

Really? Wow! I definitely want to do an action film. I would love to see myself in an action role. I’m an athlete. My dad played football, my mom did sports all her life too and sang as well. I did gymnastics. I did soccer. I did track. I did basketball. I did softball. I’m ready for whatever, I want that challenge.

Speaking of your beautiful melanin skin. Does it get exhausting sometimes to always be referred to as the spokesperson for dark skin women or do you see it as a badge of honor and something that you carry with pride?

I don’t take those things personally because I know it’s way bigger than me! Colorism itself is way bigger than me. This is something that has been taught to our culture for generations and all I’m glad to do is to continue to represent that. Hopefully one day it’s not so surprising that a dark skin actress is playing this role or doing something special. Hopefully it’s like you’re the lead, you’re good and that’s normal.

Be sure to check out Coco Jones’ new single “Caliber” and be on the lookout for upcoming projects this summer!

Just what we needed- Another unfunny man swerving out of his lane to disrespect this Black woman.

2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Radhika Jones - Arrivals

Source: Arturo Holmes / Getty

Like most overrated and outdated comedians this week, TMZ reports Bill Maher weighed in on the slap at the Oscars with the laziest possible jokes just to bash Jada Pinkett Smith on the Friday night episode of Real Time. Although Maher had to Google “alopecia” after the incident last week, he thinks he’s enough of an expert to tell a Black woman how to publicly handle the disease. The HBO host told Jada to get over the autoimmune disease that caused her uncontrolled hair loss because it’s “not leukemia,” another autoimmune disease.

“I mean, if you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say thanks, God.  It’s not life-threatening. You know, for 80 percent of men, 50 percent of it’s part of aging,” Maher said. “Trust me, I know, it’s the degradation of the flesh. It happens to all of us. And, you know, just put on a f*cking wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much.”

Bill must have forgotten that after centuries in this country, Black women are still fighting to legally protect their hair texture and styles from discrimination with laws like the CROWN Act. Instead, he sounds just like the 189 House Republicans who voted to keep that kind of racism legal. Bill tried to soften the blow of his alabaster audacity by conflating Jada’s health condition he just learned about last week to his experience of aging in the public eye.

“I mean, we all as we age, you know, we look worse. And you do things to deal with it as best you can. You know, I got my hair did this week. That’s my thing.”

CNN’s Laura Coates explained the double standards for women and how hair is a unique issue for Black women, but then went on to say it was arrogant to assume other people would know about Jada’s alopecia. Come on, Laura! Is it “Oochie Wally” or is it “One Mic?” Are Black women constantly under too much scrutiny for our hair or are the Smiths arrogant for being offended that Jada’s condition could’ve been mocked unknowingly?

All Jada did was show up to an event and everyone felt like it was open season on her and her condition. Not only has Jada not received a public apology for the public disrespect, but hacks are calling her a “b*tch” to defend their right to be offensive comedians without any consequences. If comedy is such a sacred art form that needs to be protected at all costs, why aren’t these so-called comedians better at it?

Since 2018, Jada has publicly discussed her battle with alopecia, which can manifest with other autoimmune issues.

“It was terrifying when it first started,” she said on an episode of Red Table Talk. “I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’

Laughing off this kind of habitual line-stepping is why a White man like Maher thinks it’s sweet to throw around the N-word. Are we surprised this is the same man accused of abusing his Black ex-girlfriend while using the N-word regularly? This is the last person who should weigh on how Black women should respond to disrespect.

For the past 20 years, prolific producer Will Packer has been the man behind billion-dollar blockbusters and hit TV shows like Stomp the Yard, Straight Outta Compton, Girls Trip, Being Mary, Jane Ready To Love, and the 2016 remake of Roots. According to the Tampa Bay TimesPacker will make history again on March 27 leading the first all-Black production team in the history of the 94th annual Oscars.

Just six years ago, Packer was one of the many industry leaders who called out the Academy Awards with #OscarsSoWhite for failing to represent and recognize Black creatives and other people of color. Now with producing partner Shayla Cowan, the FAMU alum is reviving the Oscars with a focus on representing and entertaining everyone, not just White Hollywood elites.

“I’m someone who always believes ‘I can show you better than I can tell you.’ I’m proud of ours being the first all-Black team but I don’t feel the need to talk about it inordinately,” he said.

“I’d rather show the world what we can do and then after the fact we can talk about how great the result was that this particular team produced. There is no doubt our skill sets and perspectives are allowing us to create a show that will be different than that of our predecessors.”

Despite record-breaking box-office success, the Florida native who built his empire in the South offers the fresh perspective of a Hollywood outsider. The media mogul was is determined to breathe new life into the Oscars by approaching them like one of the other most entertaining live events of the year, the Super Bowl.

“The NFL can never control who plays in the game,” he told Acting Up with Courtney Wills. “What they can control is who’s their half-time show, pregame show, who’s singing the national anthem to get everybody in. That’s my job. To get everybody in to celebrate the most talented people in the world.”

In addition to his historic trio of fearless women hosts, Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer, Packer is spicing up Hollywood’s biggest night with stars from all corners of the entertainment industry, including music, sports, and social media influencers. The FAMU alumnus will also make his mark by featuring HBCU students during the show.

“We’ve got trophy presenters from an HBCU for the first time in Oscars history, and I love that. It’s going to look very different on that stage, and that’s a good thing because optics and imagery matter.”

Although this isn’t the first time the awards show approached Packer to produce the Oscars, this year he was willing to go all-in.

“The timing is never gonna be right,” he said. “This is a mammoth job. It is something that you either have to be all the way in and be fearless about or not do it. You got to go hard. We’re going 110 percent to try to make this the absolute best show possible.”

Of course, we’re all looking forward to an appearance from Beyoncewho will perform the Oscar-nominated original song “Be Alive” from King RichardPacker also promised a few other surprises for Hollywood’s biggest night. While he admits the Academy and industry still have a long way to go when it comes to equality, Packer is leading the change with an Oscars show that is Black on both sides of the camera.

The 94th Annual Oscars will air on ABC on Sunday, March 27 at 8 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. PDT.
