Scream Queen Brandy is back in A24’s The Front Room where she faces off against her monstrous mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) who proves she’s the worst houseguest ever in the terrifying trailer you can view below:

“I’m nervous,” said the singer/actress in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. “This is different. This is psychological. It’s very intimate.”

Based on what we can decipher from the twisted trailer, the seemingly evil mother-in-law is more than just a racist Karen moving in with her son and his wife.

She appears to be a sinister senior citizen who may very well be in a religious cult with wicked plans for the couple’s baby.

At one point in the trailer, we see Brandy surrounded by seemingly deranged people who may be her mother-in-law’s malevolent minions. Or something else entirely? Either way, the freaky tongue-licking will give us nightmares well after the release of the film.

Knowing what we know about A24 movies, this could all be in Brandy’s mind or really happening which makes the buzzy film even more intriguing.

In honor of Black Music Month, we’re celebrating bubbling artists like soulful supernova Durand Bernarr who continues to redefine R&B as the boldest ‘bad b*tch’ on the rise in 2024.

Unapologetically campy with a theatrical flair, Bernarr is one of one in a monolithic music industry afraid of coloring outside the lines which he does loudly and proudly with his music.

According to his bio, the talented performance artist, vocalist, producer, and songwriter “combines elements of Little Richard and Rick James” in his fearless artistry (described as “Gangster Musical Theatre”) which defined his now-viral appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk.

Channeling beloved Proud Family character Bobby Proud, Durand cemented himself as one of music’s most unique performers while introducing new fans to his energy-elevating music headlined by breakout hit “Mango Butter”–a silky-smooth ode to being a bad b*tch and that n****.

Prior to his appearance on NPR’s popular series, the Cleveland-native shined on standout Kaytranada jam “Freefall” and joined Erykah Badu on her “Unfollow Me” tour as a background vocalist who performed as an opening act in three of the tour’s 25 stops.

Most recently, Durand showed off his hilarious personality and signature showmanship in a completely unserious audition to pay tribute to Usher at this year’s BET Awards.

He also announced the Rollin’ With the Homies Skate Experience—an upcoming 6-city skate tour beginning on July 6th in Dallas, TX at Broadway Skateland and ending on August 1st in Chicago, IL at Fleetwood Skating Rink.

Additional cities include Houston, TX (July 9th at Pearwood Skate Center), Washington, D.C. (July 11th at Cavalier Family Skating Center), Brooklyn, NY (July 13th at Xanadu Roller Arts), and Atlanta, GA (July 24th at Golden Glide Skating Rink).

In addition to the skate tour, Bernarr released his latest visual EP En Route now available on all streaming platforms.

Distributed by Create Music Group, En Route is described as a “genre-bending compilation of Durand’s musical influences” that “serves as a transitional bridge between his sophomore album Wanderlust and his forthcoming solo and collaborative releases, including Adi Oasis’s “Le Départ” (the extended version), and “Weird” off Grammy-winning Kaytranada’s album Timeless.”

With boundless star power and a style all his own, the emerging queer icon is primed to become more than just your favorite singer’s favorite singer on his way to music stardom.

Mavericks With Mav Carter is airing a new episode tomorrow, and BOSSIP’s got an exclusive clip.

Mav Carter, a childhood friend of LeBron James and CEO of their entertainment development company SpringHill Company, is once again sitting down one-on-one with mavericks for his YouTube series.

His 8 guests are people whose reputation for hustling precedes them. A press release reports that they’re creatively minded—in business, in art, in expression. Instead of being intimidated by evolution, they chase it. While their stories evoke inspiration and often incite imitation, their path is all their own. And perhaps the most important ingredient of all, they’re still just getting started.

Back when the show premiered in October, Carter told TODAY.com;

“At The SpringHill Company, we produce the most culturally impactful content that is deeply rooted in our mission of empowerment. Mavericks is special to me because I get to delve deep into my curiosity and ask the questions that uncover why and how Mavericks in their own right do the amazing things they do. Personally, I’ve learned so much from the guests during this first season, and I think our viewers will too,” he said.

In the latest episode, Maverick sits down with Academy Award and NAACP Image Award American filmmaker, Ryan Coogler. Coogler reflects on the VHS/DVD era, underscoring the deliberate movie choices required in contrast to today’s instant accessibility. He also applauds “Set it Off” for its groundbreaking LGBTQ+ representation and exploration of police brutality, being ahead of its time.

Coogler also speaks on challenging ideas, success, and comparisons to Spike Lee.

Tyler Perry's

This year’s American Black Film Festival was bustling with Black talent including co-stars Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict who opened up about their intriguing roles in Tyler Perry‘s upcoming marital drama Divorce In The Black.

Speaking to a curated group of journalists, the supportive duo opened up about their characters in the film that’s sure to deliver Perry’s golden formula of pearl clutch-worthy MESS with a message.

“I do love that she has this journey because I think so many women who have either portions of this journey or have this almost exact journey,” said Good.

“And so the biggest thing for me was making sure that she came into the fullness of self-love. She came into the fullness of understanding what she deserves.

She came into the fullness of understanding that there is life and life more abundantly on the other side and that she actually got excited about that and empowered by that.

And it’s just that she found herself and not just who she used to be, but who she’s growing into now. And so I hope that women are able to see that for themselves and I hope that it’s encouraging and inspiring.”

When asked about his approach to playing a seemingly deranged character, Hardrict had this to say about the ‘therapeutic’ role.

“Wow, how did I approach him? Like I do all my characters, like I create like backstories and just see like, why is he this way. I may watch some of my favorite movies that’s kind of relatable, like to this character. Like I watched What’s Love Got to do with it? you know?

So, what I do is I see like, how could I, you know, pull some of the films that were like, great that went down in like, cinematic history and see what I can build, you know.

And then I start, you know, when I’m acting I’m very intense, I’m passionate, I put it all on the camera, you know, but also what I loved about the characters, I was allowed to be vulnerable as well.

And then, you know, sometimes when you’re going through things in your personal life, you don’t really have an outlet, you know, to express yourself or to get out the tears and get out the frustration or pain.

And the film, it came at the right time, you know, in my life and all things, you know, I give all praise to God and all things happened in this time.

So getting that call from Mr. Perry was divine. You know, it was divine and saying that he wanted to work with me and knowing that my sister Megan, you know, nudged and gave him a little bump and God did the rest.

I just knew that it was, you know, it was, it was like my time to move on to something greater and I put all into the character and I left it there. But that’s part of being a human being.”

Beaming with good vibes, Good jumped back in to show her co-star some love which, based on the trailer, is long gone between the two.

‘It’s interesting because that’s why I was so excited about Corey playing this part because he’s so different than the character and he’s such a gentle person and such a, like a kind, just like class act and just different.

I was like, ‘he’s gonna be able to find the humanity in this character that somebody else might miss because they’re playing at the idea instead of giving the empathy.’”

According to the press release, Divorce In The Black centers around a young bank professional named Ava (Meagan Good) who’s devastated when her husband Dallas abandons their marriage.

‘Ava is determined to fight for their union, but fate intervenes, revealing Dallas’ wicked deeds that have ruined their marriage,’ per the official synopsis.

Check out the trailer below:

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, Divorce In The Black also stars Joseph Lee Anderson, Shannon Wallace, and Taylor Polidore with Richard Lawson and Debbi Morgan.

Divorce In The Black premieres on Prime Video on July 11, 2024.

Drake has seen the negative comments and heard the trash talk from fans about his latest album “Honestly, Nevermind” and could care less about what the people are saying.

Drake's Till Death Do Us Part Rap Battle Event

Source: Amy Sussman / Getty

Drake surprised fans with a 14-track album and while many were expecting his usual rap ballets Drake had a different plan in mind.

He decided to delivery an album full of dance music, including Jersey club, Baltimore club, and old house music and we’d like to point out that it was just in time for Pride Month so we know the girls are happy.

“It’s all good if you don’t get it yet. That’s what we do! We wait for you to catch up,” he said. “We in here, though, we caught up already. On to the next. My goodness!

He also dropped the video for “Falling Back” with a Tristan Thompson cameo and the ironic part about the video was Tristan can be seen encouraging Drake to follow through with his marriage…to about 23 women.

If you weren’t a fan of “Honestly, Nevermind” then maybe his next installation to his Scary Hours series and the forthcoming arrival of a poetry book will spark your interest.

“I hope you guys tune into that too ‘cause that’s gonna be some s–t. I got another Scary Hours pack coming too, in a little bit. Maybe not right now; I need you to just take this in right now,” Drake said. “But I have a Scary Hours — I’m gonna slap some head tops off with the Scary Hours pack. I love this s–t.”

He went on to wish his fans a happy summer and projected to see them sometime soon, maybe at the 2022 OVO Fest where ever that line up is released.

Drake might’ve taken a risk with this new album but it seems as though the right audience fell in love with it and it might actually grow on others after giving it a second listen.

Have you listened to the album yet? What are your thoughts? Let us know below!

On Friday, Diddy launched his return to music with his first new single in 7 years featuring Bryson Tiller. The new R&B song “Gotta Move On” addressed Diddy’s 2018 breakup with Cassie after a decade together. People are feeling the smooth and seductive summer vibe, except for Cassie’s husband Alex FineAccording to Hot New HipHop, Alex didn’t just throw a little shade, he threw a whole tree with a post about “people who are in the closet.”

“Happy Friday to all my LGBTQ+ friends. Attached is a charity that helps people who are in the closet and GOTTA MOVE ON,” the personal trainer wrote on a pcture of “LOVE” spelled out in rainbow balloons.

Who needs sunblock with some epic shade like that? Nothing says you’ve moved on like a song about your ex after she’s married with two kids. Like everything else in this rumored love triangle, the timing of the song raises some questions Diddy and his new boo Yung Miami were just toasting to their exes on IG live and celebrating their situationship on the debut of her podcast, Caresha Please. He was also at the center of the hilarious social media beef between Miami and Gina Huynh.

“I’m single. But I’m dating, I’m just taking my time with life,” Diddy shared on the podcast. When asked about his bond with Miami, he said, “We’re dating. We go have dates. We’re friends. We go to exotic locations. We have great times.”

He also told Miami,”You’re like one of the realest people I’ve ever met and you’re authentically yourself. You’re a great mother and a great friend.”

Cassie was suspected of moving on too quickly and getting more than a workout after Diddy hired Alex to train her in 2017. The Bad Boy founder’s on-again-off-again relationship was officially off for good when the couple split in October of 2018. The singer disputed the timeline, saying that there was no overlap in the two relationships. The next year Alex and Cassie announced their whirlwind engagement, marriage, and first child.

“You found a new man, so I gotta move on. Guess you got a new agenda, with someone you barely know. I won’t, say you’re wrong. Guess you had to move on,” Diddy rapped.

Entering the “Love Era”

Maybe closure after heartbreak is the perfect first step for Diddy’s new love era. In addition to running Bad Boy, the 52-year-old announced the launch of LOVE RECORDS in partnership with Motown Records. His new album coming later this year will be released under the new label, which is focused on R&B.

“Gotta Move On” debuted at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards where Diddy did double duty as the host and artist. The showstopping opener also included a medley with his classic hit “Mo Money, Mo Problems” with Christian King Combs and Teyana Taylor.

Everything from Mr. Love’s new CIROC Passion to his new album is dedicated to this new era. The good vibes continued as Diddy celebrated hearing his new song on the radio in a video he posted on Instagram.

“Welcome to the love,” he cheered in another bottle-popping celebration.

What do you think of Diddy’s and Bryson Tiller’s new song? Was Alex’s clapback out of line or right on time?

Club Tummy has a new addition to VIP!

REVOLT X AT&T Host REVOLT 3-Day Summit In Los Angeles - Day 3

Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty

There might even be two VIPs on the list, according to People. Almost a year after welcoming twins with ferociously fertile father of eight Nick Cannon, DJ Abby De La Rosa revealed that she’s expecting again on her Instagram on Friday.

“I’M PREGNANT! Another set of twins?!” Abby teased after announcing the good news. For now, she’s keeping more information about the pregnancy under wraps unless you’re one of her subscribers. “I’ll be posting all the exclusive content and answering the questions y’all are dying to know!”

Of course, the question on everybody’s minds is: “If Nick Cannon has nine babies, does he get a 10th one free?” The father of Abby’s new bundle of joy is another detail she’s keeping private, or at least, behind a paywall. Do we really need a paid subscription to figure out this mystery? Internet detectives only have one suspect so far, the Turbanator.

“We discuss that there is nothing more healthy than a Virile Man! Go forth and multiply,” Nick wrote under a hilarious picture hanging approximately fiftyleven onesies from his feature in Men’s Health Magazine.

Abby became baby mama number 3 in Nick’s wild web of co-parenting, giving birth to their twin boys Zion Mixolydian Cannon & ZIllion Heir Cannon last June. We already know that twins run in his family, starting with 11-year-olds Monroe Cannon and Moroccan Scott Cannon with his ex-wife Mariah Carey. He also has a track record of spinning the block like he did with Brittany Bell, who gave birth to Golden “Sagon” Cannon in 2017 and Powerful Queen Cannon. His social media feed shows that he’s been spending plenty of time with Abby and the twins recently.

“OUR SON ZION WALKED TODAY!!!!” Abby posted on a video of Nick lovingly guiding their baby’s first steps last week. “ZILLION IS NEXT!! WE ARE SO AMAZED BY ALL THEIR PROGRESS! Watching them grow is so amazing!!! We are blessed!!”

“Can’t believe the boys are almost a year!! Young Zion Mixolydian aka Z-Mix already getting his Mozart on! Young Geniuses!” Nick bragged yesterday about little Zion, who looks ready to follow in his musical footsteps after mastering the physical footsteps.

Although “Mr. Ncredible” admitted he “wasn’t setting out to be Father Abraham” and that he’s entertaining offers to become a long-overdue vasectomy influencer, Nick and Abby both clearly love parenting. Whether the Wild ‘N’ Out creator is on baby number nine (and maybe 10) or just keeping the same cool co-parenting energy, the Range Rover he gave the Abby is perfect for three or four car seats.

Until we get more info about the new arrival or confirmation of a vasectomy date, Nick’s not beating the seed-spilling speculation anytime soon. Zion and Zillion already have another sibling on the way this year. In January, Nick shared that he’s expecting biracial baby number 8 with model Bre Tiesi. There is no visible baby bump in the 31-year-old DJ’s announcement posts so it’s still anyone’s guess when we’ll meet the adorable addition to Club Tummy

Congratulations, Abby!

If it was up to Wendy Williams she would hire her own financial adviser instead of dealing with a court-appointed guardian. However, the judge’s decision is set and she’s not happy about it at all.

Williams’ attorney told Page Six in a statement Friday that Williams doesn’t want anyone but her to have control of her money in response to a judge’s decision to appoint a guardian.

“Please be advised that Wendy is not in agreement with the appointment of a financial guardian by the court. Wendy has been very clear that she does not want a financial guardian to tell her what she can and cannot do with her money,” La’Shawn Thomas said.

As to who will be Williams’ financial guardian, the verdict isn’t out yet but her attorney Thomas, believes that Wells Fargo may have leaked the report “in an attempt to lessen the public outcry and regulatory scrutiny mounting around” the bank.

Back in March, Williams accused her former manager Bernie Young of using her American Express card to hire an attorney to file a petition against her. The petition to become her financial guardian was due to Willams’ former financial advisor Lori Schiller allegedly advising Wells Fargo to freeze Williams’ account.

“Wells Fargo has no questions and answers regarding my money. This is not fair. And Lori Schiller and Wells Fargo has this guardianship petition about keeping me away from my money. This is not right and this is not fair.” Williams said in a video posted to social media.

In other news, Wendy Williams talk show is set to come to an end on June 17th after being on air for 14 years. As for Sherri Shepard who’s been filling in for the “How You Doin’” host, she recently announced that the countdown for her new daytime talk show “Sherri” begins now!

In the promo for her new show she shared that she promises to take viewers “on every step of this journey… behind the scenes, on the road, in the studio, rehearsals, interviews and so much more.”

“This is my time! It is my lifelong dream to have my own show and it is finally happening,” the 55-year-old declared of her show, titled Sherri.

Debmar-Mercury is the production company behind Wendy Williams’ show and will transition to working on Sherri’s new show this fall.

According to an insider, Shepherd’s show will be a “comedic take on pop culture and entertainment, celebrity interviews and real people.”

“I can’t wait until I return to New York to host the show and merge everything I love… pop culture, talk, entertainment and comedy,” Shepherd has previously said.

While Sherri gears up to take over the daytime talk show realm, Wendy appears to still be under the impression that she’ll be returning to her throne in the fall, but sources close to her production insists she’s a wrap — at least for now.

Some of Wendy’s employees feel the iconic talk show host deserves at least one last hoorah on the show while other staff members aren’t so thrilled of the idea of Wendy returning. Guess only time will tell!

Are you excited to see Sherri’s new show? Do you think it’ll last? Let us know your thoughts below.

Is daytime TV big enough for the both of them?

Talk show titan Wendy Williams may be taking a bit of downtime from hosting, but she’s most definitely not out. The Shade Room reports that Wendy assured fans that she “absolutely” plans to return to her show and isn’t checking for Sherri Shepherd, who will take over the time slot with her own upcoming show.

As a guest host of The Wendy Williams show since her absence began last year, Fat Joe was the perfect person to get the behind-the-scenes info from Wendy herself in a recent interview.

When asked if she missed coming to the show, Wendy said, “I wish I was there right now to talk about it, and talk about it with you. But, you know what? They already put people there like you.You guys are already in position. I’m glad I’m able to talk about when I come back.”

Wendy said she’s “absolutely” planning a comeback to The Wendy Williams Show. Joe asked about replacing her in the line-up. It seemed like Wendy’s not bothered by Sherri doing her thing during the hiatus, but the veteran host is also not going to watch the new show.

“I [like] her, but I won’t be watching her because I know what she’s gonna be doing and that’s really not my thing. Ummm, you know? You know what I’m saying? Anyway.”

Sherri responded to the slightly shady answer on IG Live, ultimately wishing Wendy well while she focuses on bigger issues.

“She’s not well. So, it’s just a lot going on in Wendy’s life. This when you need your friends. You need your family. You need people who love you. So, all I can do over here is pray for Wendy,” Sherri said.

The former host of The View went on to reflect on their friendly relationship in the past but clarified that Wendy was never really friends with celebrities because “it would make it hard for her to talk about them.”

While the ladies are keeping it classy, die-hard fans are impatiently waiting for Wendy to reclaim her throne when the dust settles.

Despite ongoing concerns and legal disputes about Wendy’s health, last week she showed up and showed out at the Met Gala. She definitely looks ready for a triumphant return sometime soon.

Will you be watching Sherri Shepherd’s new show? What do you think will happen with The Wendy Williams show this fall?

It’s so hard to say goodbye!

ABC's "Queens" - Season One

Source: Wilford Harewood / Getty

There can never be too many shows about a group of badass, talented Black and Latinx women living their best lives, but sadly there will be one less this fall. Deadline reports that ABC’s new musical series Queens is canceled after only one season. The 1-hour drama starred Brandy, Naturi Naughton, Eve and Nadine Velazquez as 40-something former rappers. The series follows them as they work through decades of personal struggles and industry beef to reunite their multi-platinum ’90s girl group, the Nasty B**ches.

What seemed to be a recipe for guaranteed success on the level of Empire surprisingly had trouble finding an audience. Even with lots of juicy drama, exciting performances of hot original songs, and appearances from stars like Remy Ma, Jadakiss, and Cam’ron, the series struggled to compete in its time slot on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. The show also seemed to lose momentum mid-season after Eve took a break from the show for her pregnancy.

While the show teased Eve’s potential return, it continued to deliver fresh stories ripped from the headlines about predatory conservatorships, reproductive rights, and confronting sexual abuse in the music industry. After the season 1 finale in February, Brandy discussed her hopes for Queen’s next chapter.

“I know I would love to see more performances, more rapping, and more stage stuff if there is a Season 2. We didn’t really get a chance to do a lot of the stage performances that I wanted to do this year,” she said. “I hope we get to tell more great stories and have a lot more entertainment in terms of the group. Fingers crossed.”

Queens creator, executive producer, and writer Zahir McGhee responded to the sad news on Twitter.

“While the news is disheartening because of the tremendous work hundreds of people put into the show, I’m grateful for what was an incredible journey with so many talented people. I’m proud of the stories we told, the incredible music we made and what our show looked like in front of and behind the camera. To Eve, Brandy, Naturi, Nadine, Taylor (Selé) and Pepi (Sonuga) – thank you,” McGhee wrote.

“I could never have imagined I’d get to work alongside so many current and future legends. Dreamy stuff. Endless gratitude to my partners at ABC for supporting the show until the end. Lastly, MAJOR love to the Queens fans. You are the absolute best and I’m bummed that we don’t get to spend more Tuesday nights together. Hoever, the show lives on forever. The music lives forever. In short, #QueensForever.”

The cancelation is disappointing for such a promising premise, all-star cast and talented crew of creators. Heartbroken fans are keeping hope alive that another network or streamer will give Queens the second life it deserves. Until another platform steps up to continue the story, at least we’ll always have those incredible songs and performances to remember the show by. Check out one of the show’s epic battles between Naomi (Brandy) and Brianna (Eve).

Long live Queens! What was your favorite moment from the show?
