Every few years, the climate of the fashion industry changes drastically. At one point, it was cool to rock baggy clothes and mismatched prints, until it became chic to wear skinny jeans and button ups. One thing that rarely shifts in fashion is the desire to incorporate a little street style, no matter what look you’re going for. Big brands sometimes use to stray away from adding “street fashion” into their collections, but they always come back to the culture for a little inspo.

In an effort to reassert itself into the genre of streetwear, True Religion hired UpscaleHype cofounder Allen Onyia as their new artistic director. Onyia is a recognized tastemaker in streetwear fashion circles and was named “Menswear’s Most Important Instagram Account” by GQ in 2018. In a press release about Allen’s new, excited gig, True Religion said in a statement:

“In his new role, Onyia will innovate modern and elevated streetwear for True Religion, which has iconic roots in the aesthetic. He plans to apply the same ethos to design as he does to his platforms – “look good, feel good and be a part of something”.

Onyia said of upcoming position:

“I have always admired True Religion as an iconic brand with deep roots in the streetwear category. I am thrilled to join the team and bring my vision to reestablish a brand people can associate with, in this new age of streetwear.”

True Religion CEO Chelsea Grayson added:

“We have been driving towards this watershed moment since I joined the Company. I am excited to work with Allen to return True Religion to its rightful place among streetwear leaders. The whole point of this [hire] is it really signals a sea change for the company and its progression into the future. This is a real line in the sand and I was intent on that when I joined the company.”

“Allen lives, eats and breathes streetwear and the streetwear aesthetic on all ends of the spectrum. So he knows how to dress it up, dress it down, make it more elevated or less elevated, and I really respect that fluidity in his style.”

Adding Allen to the crew is just one of many changes the brand has planned. Grayson says there will be less denim and more crewneck T-shirts, crewneck long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, outerwear and elevated fabrications.

But Allen isn’t new to this fashion ish. Back in 2008, he co founded the site UpscaleHype with his brother Kyle Onyia, which focused on coverage of high-end men’s wear and celebrity fashion. He also worked with True Religion once before as as a brand ambassador when the brand teamed up with Travis Scott back in 2014. Grayson says Onyia’s mark touch on the brand will be felt as soon as their Spring collection drops — but you’ll see more of his works during the holiday assortments.

Congrats, young King.

Kim Foxx Subpoenaed For Hearing Over Jussie Smollett Case

Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx is still facing some major heat after her offices dropped all charges against Jussie Smollett in his alleged hate crime case.

According to The Chicago Sun-Times, Foxx has been subpoenaed to appear at a hearing over the handing of Smollett’s case. She was hit with the subpoena by a retired Judge Sheila O’Brien, who’s pushing for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate how Foxx handled everything.

O’Brien also subpoenaed Foxx’s top deputy Joseph Magats, and filed a document asking that Smollett appear at the hearing.

Smollett told Chicago police that in January, two white guys called him racist and homophobic slurs, then they poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck. After weeks of investigation, officers accused Jussie of staging the hate crime and he was hit with 16 felony disorderly conduct charges. However, in a surprise March hearing, all charges against Jussie were dropped.

O’Brien is saying Foxx’s handling of the case was “plagued with irregularity.”

“Foxx’s conflict in this matter is beyond dispute,” O’Brien wrote, adding that Foxx should have aimed for the appointment of a special prosecutor. “Instead, Foxx misled the public into believing that Smollett’s case was handled like any other prosecution and without influence.”

Text messages and emails turned over to the Sun-Times, in response to a records request, showed that weeks before Smollett was charged or the Empire actor was considered by cops to be a crime victim, Foxx had talked to Chicago lawyer Tina Tchen, who put her in touch with one of Smollett’s relatives. Foxx also acknowledged that she urged CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson to turn the investigation over to the FBI.

Since the case was dropped, three people from Foxx’s team, including her chief ethics officer and chief spokesman, have left the office, according to Page Six.

Avengers: Endgame Opens With $1.209 Billion Weekend

“Avengers: Endgame” came and it conquered.

The highly anticipated Disney/Marvel flick smashed box office records not only domestically, but internationally and worldwide.

According to Deadline the movie raked in $859 million at the international box office which leads to a $1.209 BILLION global launch.

And this was just for one weekend.

This makes Endgame the first movie to surpass $1B worldwide in its debut, reaching the milestone in only five days. In these few days, Endgame is already the No. 18 film on the all-time global charts, skyrocketing past Captain America: Civil War and the recent Captain Marvel. Endgame also broke international records with the biggest opening weekend at $859 million.

As the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Endgame also contributes to MCU’s whopping 19.9 billion in revenue.

Domestically, the film shattered records as well, including the biggest opening weekend at $350 million, the first film to cross $300 million in its opening weekend and the fastest film to hit $100 million at 17 hours.

And again, this is just the opening weekend.

There’s still plenty more weeks to go.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Debate in St. Louis

Source: Brooks Kraft / Getty

In today’s edition of “the President is trippin’”, Donald Trump went out of his way to congratulate the NFL Draft’s number two pick Nick Bosa without even acknowledging number one pick, Heisman Trophy winning Black man Kyler Murray. In true Trump form, he took to Twitter to be willfully shady, writing:

The petty tweet caused an uproar on social media with folks pointing out that Murray — who also made history as the only player ever to be drafted in the first round of the NFL and MLB — should be congratulated as well.

Even Time magazine called the President out on his pettiness.

Just to refresh your memory, Nick Bosa is the same guy that called Colin Kaepernick a “clown”  for kneeling during the National Anthem. TBH, do we expect anything more from Trump? Nah.

But congrats to Kyler Murray for making history!

Nene Leakes Sends Porsha Williams A Cease And Desist

Chiiilllle, the Real Housewives of Atlanta drama just won’t let up. We’ve watched Nene Leakes and Porsha Williams‘ beef for most of the season and the reunion episodes, and now they’re beef has reached court document level — at least according to Porsha. The new mom told PEOPLE that after she took to Instagram to share screenshots of Nene fat-shaming her while pregnant, Leakes sent her a cease and desist letter.

“After that whole Instagram back and forth that she started with me, she ended up sending me a cease and desist. So once she sent me a cease and desist, at that point, I was like, ‘You know what? This is just a sure sign that I should be done with the relationship.’ So I’m over it. I’m concentrating on my baby girl. And people who love and support me at this moment.”

You may recall that in the lethal texts, Nene called Porsha a “lying a** big fat hungry b***h” and a “big piggy with the busted shape.” The Swag shop owner has made it clear that she’s no longer friends with any of the girls on the show, and judging by her taking matters to court, it’s probably safe to say she won’t be sippin’ tea with the ladies anytime soon.

Jay-Z Performs ‘B-Sides’ Set At Webster Hall

Jay-Z always knows what to do to get people talking all while pushing the culture forward. The Brooklyn legend made New York’s Webster Hall great again for the venue’s reopening by performing one of his “B-sides” set with an intimate show. But it wouldn’t be a Hov show without some special guests in the building. Nas hit the stage with Jay to perform their 2007 track “Success” followed by the classic “Dead Presidents”, then the Queens legend closed out their set with “New York State of Mind”.

One of the biggest surprises of the night was Jay brought out former nemesis Cam’ron to perform their 2002 collab “Welcome to New York City.” The audience went wild seeing the semi Roc-A-fella reunion, and ish got crazier once Jim Jones joined them on stage to perform “I Really Mean It.”

A standout moment from the classic performance was Hov’s tribute to the late, great Nipsey Hussle. He freestyled:

“Gentrify your own hood before these people do it. Claim eminent domain and have your people move in. That’s a small glimpse into what Nipsey was doing. For anybody still confused as to what he was doing.”

Jay’s “B-Sides 2” set is Webster Hall’s first show since it closed down for renovation in August 2017. Shout out to Hov for bringing the culture back to NYC in such a dope way.

Regina Hall Explains How She Once Had A Crush On Her Gynecologist

When asked about her past crushes, Regina Hall revealed that there was one medical professional who had her eyes on lock.

Hall went on the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” with Marsai Martin to promote their movie Little, and considering Martin’s character has a crush on her teacher, the two ladies were asked if they’ve ever had a real life instructor crush.

Martin immediately denied such thoughts, while Regina went straight past teacher to her gynecologist:

“I think he was my first one,” Regina said. “I just remember being like, ooh he’s cute.”

Despite the suggestive legs up, stirrup locked procedure involved with a gynecology exam, Regina assured that it was still as awkward as any gynecology visit. “If he’s cute, you don’t want it. It’s more embarrassing actually,” she said.

You can watch her explain her crushes more in the clip below. She even dishes on how she thought she was going to marry Prince one day.

R& B Singer Launches New Clothing Line, “Jeff Redd Apparel”

He’s known for looking dapper on stage, and now New Jack Swing singer Jeff Redd is bringing his sharp suits to the masses.

The singer, known for his hit “You Called and Told Me,” from the “Strictly Business” soundtrack, has launched his own line of custom made suits, called “Jeff Redd Apparel.”

Redd said his look was inspired by the performers he watched growing up, like The Temptations, James Brown and Jackie Wilson.

“Those guys were always dressed on stage, and I wanted to bring that concept to my apparel,” Redd told BOSSIP. “I’m just taking a page out of the 60s and 70s when guys would get dressed up…It’s really about bring the man back to being a gentleman.”

But Redd said the line will also be affordable, with suit jackets costing around $125 and entire suits retailing for about $200.

“With custom made, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for it,” Redd said. “Everything for me doesn’t always have to be overpriced.”

The Mount Vernon-raised crooner said he’s getting the clothing line for previews later on this summer and plans to launch it through his website in the fall.

He also said he’d like to eventually branch out into accessories and skin care.
