On February 20, a man convicted of kidnapping and traveling with a minor to engage in a sexual act was sentenced to life in prison.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice, 65-year-old Henri Michelle Piette was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping, 360 months for traveling with intent to engage in sexual acts with a juvenile, a $50,000 fine and ordered to pay $50,067 restitution.
During the 2019 trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Piette kidnapped his stepdaughter, Rosalynn McGinnis, who was 12 at the time.
“Over the course of the nearly 20 years that followed, the defendant repeatedly raped and inflicted additional physical and emotional abuse upon the victim,” the department explained. “The victim gave birth to nine children, the first being born in 2000 when she was 15 years-old.”
Luckily, in June of 2016, McGinnis managed to flee along with eight of the nine children she had with Piette. Her eldest son had run away before her escape, but they have since been reunited. They were being held in a remote village in Mexico.
The FBI began an investigation in search of Piette upon McGinnis’ return to the U.S. In 2017, she sat down with PEOPLE and told her story while still living in fear of the man who abducted her.
On Sept. 7, 2017, an FBI special agent was notified that Piette–who had resided in Central America and Mexico for an extended period of time–“visited the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City attempting to obtain a U.S. Passport.”
A month later, he was arrested in Dallas.
“Relief is such a small word in comparison to how I feel about the capture of Henri Piette,” McGinnis said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “However, it is the closest I am able to come to describing my overall demeanor at this time. Knowing that the man who physically took 22 years from me, leaving me with a lifetime of painful challenges, has been captured makes today one of the most pivotal times of my life.”
Federal prosecutors have stated that they hope Piette’s sentencing provides closure for McGinnis and her family.
During a recent episode of Genius’ series For the Record, Jada took a walk down memory lane as he remembered the day The Lox were asked to be on the Vol. 2 track, which also featured Beanie Sigel and Sauce Money. Hov’s team called the rappers as they landed in New York following a weekend filled with performances. Jadakiss explains that he and rest of The Lox members were totally down to collaborate, right after they went home and dropped off their luggage.
Apparently, that wasn’t good enough for Jay, who wanted them in the studio ASAP; It’s safe to say that request didn’t sit well with any of the trio.
“So we’re like, ‘That’s cool. We’re gonna go home, put our luggage [away].’ And they were like, ‘Nah, [Jay] wants you to come there right now,” Jada explained. “We ain’t got carry-ons. We got big shit we had to check. So that put us on edge a little, ’cause we always lookin’ at it like, ‘If [Jay] just landed, would he just come to the studio with his luggage? No!’ But that was a good edge.”
They obliged and arrived at the studio to start recording. Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, and Beanie Sigel laid down their verses on the first day, while Styles P recorded his verse the day after. But even with some time to cool off, Styles still wasn’t feeling good about Jay’s short-notice, so he decided to put it in the song.
“I don’t give a F**K who you are, so F**K who you are
I don’t care about a pretty b***h, watch or a car
I don’t care about your block and whoever you shot
I don’t care about your album and whenever it drop
I don’t care about your past if I did I woulda asked”
“He was going at Hov on there,” Jada admitted to Rob Markman. “Hov was like, ‘Well, it sounded like you talking about me on it.’”

Lady Gaga has a new tune and video and her hardcore fans should love it.
“Stupid Love” was released as a surprise single on Thursday and yesterday the official video hit the internet. The concept is very…her personality. Synced up choreography, dozens on dancers, over-the-top wardrobe, and it’s literally out of this world.
A fun tidbit about the visual is that it was shot entirely on the iPhone 11 Pro. Directed by Daniel Askill, here’s “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga. Enjoy!
Back in October, Lizzo was on the other end of the situation when she sued songwriters Justin and Jeremiah Raisen and Justin “Yves” Rothman, hoping to obtain a determination that they aren’t entitled to be credited for the song. According to reports from Variety, the trio filed their countersuit on Friday, claiming that “Truth Hurts” is extensively similar to “Healthy,” a song that he allegedly composed with Lizzo in 2017.
An attorney sent a statement to Pitchfork on behalf of the songwriters, which says the following:
“Lizzo is a talented musician and performer who currently enjoys immense popularity based on a hit song that she did not write alone. The counterclaims we filed today seek a judgment from the court that the song that is now called “Truth Hurts” originated in Justin Raisen’s home recording studio from a collaboration among our clients, Justin and Jeremiah Raisen and Yves Rothman, along with Lizzo and jesse saint john. When the case proceeds to trial, we look forward to sharing the sound recordings, videos, photographs, and musicology that 100 percent prove that collaboration. Our clients deserve their fair share of the recognition and revenue that comes from collaborating on a hit song.
From the standpoint of the industry as a whole, a contrary result would make it impossible for working musicians to be confident that they will be properly credited for their work if they get into a studio and create songs with powerful artists.”
This countersuit claims that a musicologist discovered “strikingly similar lyric and musical elements” between the two songs in question. Another striking similarity: both also begin with the same line, “I just did a DNA test / turns out I’m a 100 percent that b***h.” Other arguments in the suit include the parallel use of pianos, Lizzo’s “vamping,” and how the chorus and verses are arranged on both tracks.
Initially, Justin Raisen hit Lizzo with a lawsuit for this same issue back in October. Still, Lizzo is sticking to her story: she wrote “Truth Hurts” all on her own.
Offset spent 2019 finally putting an end to the debate of who is the best Migos member after dominating every song feature sent his way, releasing his solo album, then grabbing a Grammy nomination with that same album. Now, he is setting his sights on another avenue: acting.
Offset is joining LL Cool J and the rest of the cast of NCIS LA, where he is already showing promise in the acting field. In the upcoming episode, the rapper will play an undercover agent who’s already working on his own case when LL and his teammates need Offset’s assistance–but he won’t give it away willingly. “You can imagine, you know, we all have fears,” Ross began, according to Just Jared. “We all have these things that we’ve hidden away that we think are not worthy of coming forward. They might not be good enough. They might be compared to somebody else. And I had to realize that it’s not the sound of my voice, it’s the honesty of my voice that is the key. I’m not supposed to sound like my mom…I’m not even supposed to be her. I can’t fill her shoes. No one can fill her shoes.”
